Nobody's ever going to claim this city is boring. While you were living in the Sunset, I had some student digs on Potrero Hill. After finishing at Cal, I went for my MA at SF State (which became a university instead of a state college that same year). The thing that seems so distant now is that Christopher was a Republican and so was half the Board of Supervisors. I had moved to Nob Hill during that time (Taylor between Jackson and Pacific) and thought I had hit Nirvana--picture postcard view. Moscone and Milk were just hitting the big time when I got married and headed back to the greater L. A, area, so I missed out on the Feinstein era,

The Transamerica Tower was about one-third completed when I crossed the Bay Bridge for the last time for the next twenty years. Got back into town after my divorce at the end of the Agnew administration and have been here ever since. I lived for a short time in West Clay Park (25th and Lake). I'm farther down Nob Hill these days, and much more down-to-earth. The town has changed immensely over the years, and not all of it for the better.

But people have always had a bizarre sense of humor in this town. You know from my description of where I lived before leaving that once you go north past Broadway Terrace, Taylor drops three blocks down like a giant rollercoaster. Coming back up, there was a sign at the bottom of the hill that redundantly said "Hill." Some wag had gotten out his magic marker and wrote No S- - t ! on the sign.

Growing up in San Francisco in the 60's and 70's was great since I lived in the conservative no man's land of the Sunset. The most conservative part of the city. My parents still live there. The Mayor's at that time (Christopher, Alioto, Moscone) actually tended to the running of the city. I went to the same high school where Mayor Moscone's children went to school and vividly recall the day he was killed and his children were pulled out of school. I remember Mayor Moscone coming to basketball games and him being very comfortable around the average joe. People eulogize Harvey Milk but seem to never recall that Moscone was killed too.

Unlike today where Newson spends more time outside of the city campaigning and running for higher office.

you should stay away from the east side of the state. We're a bit more optimistic and alive here on the west side.

Sometimes the moderation system doesn't like to post things that sound like someone has a stick up their arse. Funny that. Seriously though, this is a message board, people are just mulling things over here, making comments with all kinds of spelling and grammar errors. Which is fine. It would be different if these comments were presented as an important commentary on blah, blah, blah. Relax, ok? This is what is known as having fun, try it, you might like it. And no one will be grading your efforts.

And let's not forget this little tid bit.

"Brian Jennings writes: "These guys just walked into the studio and thought it would happen automatically. Listeners would flock to them….they were superstars…NOT! "

Can you believe that somebody is still yelling "NOT!" like that at the end of a sentence?

Look, it might have been mildly amusing the first time somebody used it 10 or 11 million times ago -- but the fact that he's still doing it after all these years says a lot about Brian's own problems with innovation."

I rather doubt you're a conservative but let's pretend that you are for a minute.."I doubt a liberal would give a damn how a conservative's ideas are presented". Do you REALLY believe that "paul"? Honestly? If that were the case then what's the purpose of even stating THIS..

"If conservatives are going to use hackneyed phrases and terrifically ancient comedy lines to present their ideas -- as Brian has done here -- then nobody intelligent will take them seriously"

Seriously is that "not giving a damn about how a conservative presents their ideas"?

True...but NPR doesn't rely on advertisers, and as I said, most of its podcasts are free. It's all a big mess ratings wise (I have yet to ever meet someone with a Nielsen box) , but I think podcasting is helping some outlets get their message on the airwaves one way or another. For already successful behemoths like Rush et al, podcasts are a savvy marketing tool to help people get the entire show if they want as opposed to the commute sized chunks they're getting already.

I AM a conservative.

And who hasn't had something similar to this happen to their responses whether they're liberal or conservative?
