Why Wasn’t I Invited to the NEA Conference Call?
by Big XThis whole flap over at the NEA has a lot of folks’ underwear in a bunch. Sure, the idea of the White House using the NEA as the “Hope and Change Department of Propaganda” is disturbing. But even more troubling is the fact that I didn’t get an invitation to the goddamn conference call!
And I quote: “It’s time for us as a group of artists, producers, promoters, organizers, influencers, marketers, tastemakers, leaders or just plain cool people to join together…”
I’m a producer and an artist. I’m even a leader at times. And anyone who’s ever had one of my patented kick-ass margaritas (SeizureRitas®) can attest to my tastemaking abilities! Just to prove my worth to the cause, I’d like to submit the below painting, an homage to German artist Hubert Lanzinger, I call “Obama, the Standard Bearer.”
During the call, of course, Yosi Sergant includes himself in the mix, as is evident when he opens with “It’s time for us.” Because Yosi must be one of us, right? Let’s see…
According to his bio in Wikipedia, Yosi got his degree in World Arts and Culture from UCLA. I guess that makes him an arts aficionado, if not an actual artist. He’s worked in “marketing, public relations, brand management and business development for over 10 years.” So I guess that places him in the “promoter/organizer” class.
Oh, but wait! According his entry in IMDB, he’s a producer, too! He’s responsible for that incredible film, “Bacon Wagon.” Haven’t heard of it? Well, according to the one user comment, “Bacon Wagon” rates a robust ten stars. And I quote:
“We could all learn a thing or two from The Bacon Wagon Man. This movie was filled with fabulous dark comedy and great production design. He’s got a live pig–I believe his name is Wiggles.”
And just who wrote this glowing review? I can’t be sure, but that breathless style is almost as good as a fingerprint. Could it be that Yosi is a film critic as well as a P.R. flack?
Why… that would make him a “tastemaker.”
Still, my Wikipedia entry is about twice as long as Yosi’s. Plus, his IMDB credits are a veritable pimple on the ass of my IMDB credits. So why, Yosi? Why no invitation for Big X?
I guess I’m not “just plain cool” enough.

Too fun-nay!!
You are known by the company you don't keep.
LOL I have been feeling the same way. I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York and have a BFA in Film and Animation. Why didn't I get the call? I have skills so whats up? I wonder how many legit artists were in on the call and what determined them to be an artist that the NEA wanted.
What is so funny is that it was a fellow artists that took this whole thing down. They thought he would be so happy to go along and just paint some pretty pictures for Obama. Instead some people just don't like the "man" controlling people even if for the next 4 years the "man" is a black man.

I'm struggling to find the difference between the original subject of that painting and the 'community organizer' now wearing that suit of armor. But the similarities are too eerily close – racist thug, surrounded by his private army of hoods and thieves which brought him to power, a corrupt press that idolizes a charismatic 'leader' born outside of the country that elected the leader because he promised to bring them out of a depression but instead is manipulating it to give himself even more power, etc. Damn, that painting just hits too close to home!

Maybe I expect too much but I've never seen a petition of this kind ever accomplish anything.
If its the thought that counts I'm not really interested.
Me to BigX! I didn’t get a call either, bastards.
Let's hear it from the artists who didn't get in on the NEA Conference Call. Now that would be a really, really cool collection of artists. Then after 30 or 40 years of being an artist of one sort or another — and paying my own way — I might finally get some recognition myself.
OK…… Finally got the Lice Chat working properly for all users. I hope

Something tells me Joe Goebbels would have gotten a call if this took place during the 40's.
I guess Yosi could not make it on his artistic abilities and chose a life of coruption courtesy of our leader and the NEA. Yosi seen that whole community organizer, i.e. Art Community Organizer, was profitable by watching his Home Boy rise through the ranks.
Real artists know that ANY artist connected to, or funded by the government is a sham. If they are serious artists, they don't have time to sit in on a tele-circle jerk for marching orders. A real artist is in his/her studio trying to keep up with the demand of their work thanks to the free market capitalist system….not waiting at the mailbox for a gubament check. Have you noticed how everybody has become an "artist" in the last ten years?

Excellent points…………
Warning, when the person (repeatedly) promoting a site gets confused as to whether it is a dot-net or a dot-com, in the same post, that is not a good sign.
There is more to this propoganda war than just NEA 'artists'. For the last twenty years or so, most mainstream music artists have been strictly propogandists for the left. Broadcast radio has, at least in part, died because of this. The only singers/bands in pop or rock music that get promoted must toe the liberal line. Greenday, U2, Springsteen, and so on get pushed and pushed. It does not matter if the singer is not in key or the music sucks. And they always have a "message" usually involving Americans being selfish, stupid, evil. There are exceptions to the rule, but I think it I'm right here.
If these so-called "artists" have to call themselves "cool"….then they just aren't.
I wasn't called either. (I bet it's because I'm a woman, sexist pigs.)
Too funny. Mr. X you are very cool !
I wasn't invited either. I guess they discriminate against Pollacks.
This is funny. I say that as someone who voted for Obama twice, and given the quality of people in the Republican field so far, I may do so again. This is the quality of HUMOR that used to make political debate interesting. By the way, I recognized the theme of your picture. I watched the movie Joan of Arc five times myself, when it came out on TV in 1999.

So glad you recognized the theme of my painting. Very astute. I would expect no less from a loyal Obama supporter.
X.
Gee, and what I was going for was all inspirational and heroic and butch and stuff. I think you're reading a lot more into it than I intended…
X
I wasn't called neither! Argh! But y'done good, Mr. X. I must admit, I'm very curious who you are!
