R.I.P. Corey Haim: 1971-2010
by Big Hollywood
Actor Corey Haim, 38, was found dead early Wednesday (March 10), the Los Angeles County Coroner and the LAPD confirmed to MTV News. While neither would comment or speculate on the cause of death, a police source reportedly told KTLA that the actor, who rose to fame in the 1980s alongside longtime pal Corey Feldman, died of an apparent accidental drug overdose. The coroner’s office told MTV News that an autopsy is planned. …
Haim was born in Ontario in 1971 and as a teenager found fame in Hollywood. His first role was in 1984’s “Firstborn” with Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. He was one of the best-known young actors of the decade, alongside other notable actors like C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez. He starred in films like “Silver Bullet,” Lucas” and most famously 1987’s “The Lost Boys,” with Feldman as well as Kiefer Sutherland.

This is sad.
I'm sorry for his family, but I'm tired of hearing about some celebrity having an 'accidental overdose'.
This stuff is poison, and to knowingly take it is not 'accidental', but a deliberate suicide attempt.
They explain away Heath Ledger's overdose, again saying it was 'accidental'. Addicts use drugs just like if they put a gun against their heads and pulled the trigger.
Haim had a serious problem, but don't call this 'accidental'.
Sad indeed and as cheesy as I know it is, the Lost Boys soundtrack strangely not making it Irish wake-style easier to digest. 38 years old — damn! RIP, Mr. Haim. Hope the after-life treats ya better.
Just a shame… I am in recovery and have been sober for over 20 years and it pains me everytime I see a person going through struggles and then passing away from his/her affliction… RIP…..
So true Hermie, and I could not agree more. These are no accidents, they are suicide and stupidity. Sorry for his family, but not for him.
What makes this even worse is that everyone knew it was going to happen. It was just a question of when. He's not much older than me, but I grew up watching his movies. He was a staple of 80's pop culture. Very sad indeed.
A tragic ending to a rather confused life. May he rest in peace.
God bless you, I'm in recovery over 5 years myself, and this is a sad story. Unfortunately it's neither shocking, nor surprising, as I've known quite a few people who never made it. That being said, I feel sorry for his family as I'm sure they've been through h*ll while he suffered from his addictions.
I liked "License To Drive," & "Lucas" R.I.P. Corey.
More child actors die this way then kids who accidentally shoot themselves or a friend. To protect child actors, we should ban all jobs for child actors.
Brat packers dying is something that makes me feel really old
i understand that it was not health related but I grew up with these people
God bless it is a struggle…. I am a product of the 80's and it is sad to see some of the actors/actresses having issues…..
I agree with it is not shocking, but sad for someone that could have seen the light and a BETTER life!!!!
(sigh) So sad.
I watched The Lost Boys for the first time last year and I could see why it's still popular.
But for me, it's all about License to Drive. "You even had sunlight! And a window in your room! All gone!"
There are people living in an alternate reality by calling these 'accidental', as if 'Gee, if he would've been more careful the heroin or meth wouldn't have killed him.' As if calling it 'accidental overdose' makes it equal to falling down a flight of stairs, or being involved in a head-on collision.
With drugs there are no 'accidental overdoses'. Each and every time you snort, inject, swallow or otherwise ingest a toxic addictive substance, you risk your life.
License to Drive, aka one of the very few movies where Heather Graham keeps her clothes on.
bwahahahahha
Steven Crowder should play Corey Haim in the inevitable made-for-TV movie. Of course, he'll be two feet taller than the real Corey Haim, but that's why God made forced perspective lenses and milk cartons.
if not, what else does she bring to the table?
Sad? Yeah it's real sad. Here was a guy that didn't make enough money when he was in his acting prime to buy peanut butter and bread. Fame, but no fortune. He reduced himself to artifact seller and tried to sell "authenticated" clumps of his hair and molars for $75 on eBay. Imagine how hollowed out he felt when nobody was interested in buying a "piece" of Cory Haim. A poor twisted soul that has transitioned to a better place. R.I.P.
A blank canvas….
It was not a matter of if, but when. When will hollywoodies stop using dope? How many of these "actors" die of natural causes these days? It seems that it's always dope that kills them, either "accidentally" or on purpose.
I'm sorry, but the picture description says "victoria_beckham2a". Back to Corey. He was from my generation. Unfortunately, he never made it past child actor. He was swept under the rug of anonymity by an uncaring and unthinking machine called "Hollywood". I imagine it would be very difficult to transition from everyone telling you you are the best to unknown. It appears he never got past the emotional hit he took, and it is sad. I hope he rests in peace.
Especially touching after the Hughes tribute on the Oscars. Truth be told, I'd have picked MaCauley Culkin to be the one who didn't make it. (Of course, we should remember that many child actors survive to be productive & relatively drug & angst-free: Fred Savage, Sarah Jessica Parker, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Raven Symone, Seth Green, Elijah Wood, Kirk Cameron, Mayim Biyalik, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc.)
I will admit that when I first saw that he was dead, a drug overdose was my immediate thought, too. But the AP is reporting that it may not be drug-related at all. Like Brittany Murphy, he was ill for about a week before he died, and was using over-the-counter and prescription drugs to get over the illness. There were no illegal drugs found. It may be a prescription overdose, or it may be that he died because he was ill. Nobody knows yet. A lot of people – myself included – had to take back statements or thoughts about Ms. Murphy's drug history playing a part in her death. So we should probably give him the benefit of the doubt and at least wait until the autopsy reports come back before jumping to conclusions.
I think you mean the 20th anniversary. The 25th anniversary wouldn't be until 2012.
You sir, are an ass.
At TMZ they show a photo of the apartment where he died called Oakwood apartments. I drive by there nearly every week (victory near topanga blvd – 101 fwy a block away).
It is where Rick James died. I looked up the place and the many comments about the apartments are that it is rundown.
You always think the people you see in Hollywood would be doing better then it turns out they are. He was in many movies and must have made a pile of money and should have had a better life but drugs and demons got to him.
But I WANT to see her naked….
same here why the hell not??? lol
Same here. I just watched my Silver Bullet DVD 2 weeks ago and was amazed at the difference between that Corey Haim and the one struggling with his addiction.
For a while there it was looking like Robert Downey Jr. was on this path, thank God he turned things around.
The interaction between Haim and his dad (the always great Richard Masur) was hilarious in that movie.
He should've left Hollyweird. I saw this kid on A&E where he was fighting with the other Corey/Cory/whatever. It was one of those horrible 'reality' self exploitation shows. They were supposed to be filming a Lost Boys sequel and Haim spent most of his time ducking out doing blow and feeling sorry for himself about being molested as a child. If only he could've gotten away from that negative beast he might have found that decency, redemption and honor still exist.
Heather Graham naked makes Hank happy…..
Obama had a press conference about this where he promptly blamed Bush.
I can't honestly say I liked a lot of Haim's movies, but "Lucas" was pretty good.
Julie Bowen…. yeah, a COUGAR for sure…
Hank keep it in your pants….lol
Yeah. 1987-2007.
Drugs have laid waste to another human being. The loss of potential, love, and pride are the real victims. This guy has the world in the palm of his hands as a young man, and he wasted it on drugs. He hurt alot of people along the way. I am sure family and friends were cast aside, so he could find a fix. Sadly, the moral of the story is another person with talent has lost everything to a temporary high.
LUUUUUUCASSSSSS!!!!!
Why couldn't it have been Penn with his pal Hugo?
In regards to your list of child actors who've led more stable lives than others, there are probably a lot more than you and I can think of. Unfortunately, child actors who've become addicted, and troubled get more than a lion's share of publicity, and attention.
Speaking from experience, I have been in recovery for over 10 years and completely sober for almost 6, I can well understand the struggles one goes through. I thank God at least once a day that the craving to get loaded has evaporated. Corey is now at peace, and I feel real bad for the family and friends he left behind. A huge part of my recovery comes down basically & simply to being responsible.
Like the ancient Romans said: "All glory is fleeting." It's a shame the way Hollywood uses these kids until they're no longer 'cute' (bank-able), then shows them the door. Sad news.
And I truly congratulate you, and wish you continued success & sobriety. ve worked on (separate) films with Chris Farley and Brad Renfro–two fine men who couldn't overcome their demons either. (both appeared fully sober & professional during filming) I wasn't intending at all to put down the difficulty of overcoming addiction; but people tend to assume, and the media promulgates the trope that every child actor instantly and irrecoverably sinks into drug-addled oblivion once work dries up. I felt compelled to point out showbiz isn't automatically a death sentence for children.
(Shirley Temple would probably agree) I'
Why was that necessary? Did he ever do anything to you?
I agree with Ding. You are an ass.
Rachel Maddow
No doubt TOTUS will include it in his Healthcare campaign stump this week.
Dude.
Maybe we could have Feldman just play himself — kinda like Billy Idol played himself in The Wedding Singer?
You feel old?
My kids grew up with these people.
And I loved watching them as a family.
Sort of—occassionally he's on TRU-TV, sort of.
Funny, but—sort of.
You are absolutely correct. God help them. Sad.
I always thought Lucas was underrated. I remember seeing it at 14 and loving it. You watch it now, and those kids are all so innocent compared to teen movies today!
Anyway, I've been a little sad all day about Corey passing. I don't know why, I guess like other people are saying, it feels like I grew up with him and lost a friend. RIP Corey.
Who would have thought that Corey Feldman would outlive Corey Haim?
I saw the 25th anniversary screening of Lost Boys about 3 years ago. Sold out show of over 600 in Westwood, CA.
Feldman showed up. No Haim. (the actual star) The movie is a time capsule for the 80's. A true classic.
I feel sorry for his mom, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. He died in her apartment, and she is the one who found him, I read.
Trust me, I'm not complaining either. She and fellow recent cougar inductee Julie Bowen still very much have it goin' on in the looks department.
This is why I read BH. Biggest laugh I've had in a week especially considering that I spent all day with eyes closed and a nasty migraine. Thank you!
RIP Corey, thanks for the memories.
I swear to God I'm not drunk but…
I love you guys!
I've needed good vibes all day and I found them, as always, on Big Hollywood.
Corey dated Victoria Beckham for a little while back in the 90s. The picture was probably taken from an article about the two of them.
Who would've thought that Gary Busey would outlive Corey Haim?
Wait, Busey's still alive right?
How's that dope n' shame workin' out for you, Mr Haim?
The actual star of "the lost boys" was Keifer Sutherland.
This is so sad to me, I grew up loving The Lost Boys and Dream a Little Dream. I hope he's able to find the peace he never found on earth.
Why couldn’t this happen to Glen Beck? Just kidding, I just wanted to beat Bill Maher to it.
Very said indeed, I really feel for people that constantly fight the demons.
Why is it not the fault of their parents cashing in on their kid's cuteness? Does Hollywood have a responsibility to make sure all child stars are gainfully employed throughout adulthood?
Quite honestly, this is getting pathetic! What else can you say, talented people who can act as other people but stink at living their own lives. It’s no consolation but I hope it wasn’t an overdose. I don’t enjoy the fact that my entertainment dollars go to feed the habits of addicts. I was pulling for him to stay clean and get enough work to stop from becoming destitute. I enjoyed his films as a kid and his faux reality show was nostalgic. He definitely could act. His best films were Silver Bullet, Lucas, Lost Boys, Watchers, License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream. Rest in peace, Corey.
Well he's upright and exchanging oxygen, so he's not a zombie even though he looks like one….
Thank you for the kind word. I forgot about Brad Renfro. Liked Farley, and at the risk of sounding corny, I loved "Tommy Boy," especially the scene where him and Spade don't want to admit to liking the Carpenters, only to sing along with "Superstar," on the radio, with much gusto!!
When one has a hole in their soul, and tries to fill it up with substances, it' can be quite the combustible mix. Glad I got off the merry-go-round. Plus my folks like an adult beverage or two while going out to dinner, and are thankful I can drive home, which appeals to my mini-control freak issues LOL!!
It's funny you mentioned Shirley Temple because she was one who came to mind, as well as, Jackie Cooper, & Ron Howard. The Todd Bridges, and Danny Bonaduces get more press for their behaviour. No drama, normal, & dull, not that there is anything wrong with it, private behaviour, doesn't make for a sexy story, for the media.
In closing, one question, what happened to your handle? It appears to have changed to "deleted4544261. I hope I'm not prying.
I love "You, sir,…." comments!
It is a shame, that the media now is trashing this kid becuase of his sickness of being a addict….I am ashamed of what happens to people after they pass from a sickness like addiction.. I have to say that if I did not see the light some 20 years ago I WOULD BE DEAD… RIP!!!
