Kyle Smith: Matt Damon’s ‘Green Zone’ Slanders America
by Big HollywoodToday’s New York Post:
Even for Hollywood, “Green Zone” is dumbfoundingly brazen in its effort to rewrite the facts. As any reasonably informed person knows, many intelligence services (including the French, German, Chinese, Russian and British) believed Iraq had WMDs. And the CIA (which along with Chief Miller is a hero of “Green Zone”) was among them. Plus, such intel reports predated the Bush administration — and Saddam’s refusal to allow the UN weapons inspectors to finish their work gave us every reason to think he was hiding something and sealed his fate.

It’s one thing to make a fantasy film laced with snarky jibes at the United States and its military. It’s of another order entirely for an American studio (Universal, a unit of GE) to perpetrate, during an ongoing war, such vicious anti-American lies disguised as cheap entertainment.
“Green Zone” tells US troops that all of their efforts have been based on a deliberate deception. Worse, it blames the insurgency that has killed so many of our fighting men and women on US treachery.
Movies like “In the Valley of Elah,” “Rendition” and “Redacted” have shown US forces doing nasty things — but none went anywhere near as far as this picture in suggesting original sin corrupted the entire Iraq war and that American officials are more blameworthy than the insurgents for the most violent years.
“Green Zone” isn’t cinema. It’s slander. It will go down in history as one of the most egregiously anti-American movies ever released by a major studio.

Well, what do you expect from a division of GE, the same people who bring you MSNBC and the other channels that promote the Obama agenda?
Matt Damon Matt Damon Matt Damon Matt Damon. Maatt DAmmon.
I have come to expect nothing less from Matt Damon….
Strange that Damon would hate his own country so much. Where else could a mildly looking "r-word" actor, become rich and famous while possessing zero talent at anything???
Saddam's own generals thought they had WMDs, but Maaaattt Daaaaammonnn doesn't care.
Anyone who tries to argue with a straight face that Hollywood has no agenda outside of making money is clearly ignoring the absolute box office poison these anti-U.S., anti-military movies translate into.
Well it looks like they made another anti-American movie. Color me surprised. I'm certain this agitprop will end up like Lions for Lambs in the box office oubliette.
Matt Damon’s ‘Green Zone’ Slanders America
Is there any other kind of Matt Damon film?
Why even bother trying to understand these fools, just know that if there is a LOSER like Matt DUMBA$$ in it then you know it is going to be Anti-American, a flop, and not worth seeing. Save your Money.
Is there anyone in this entire universe that actually makes a deliberate effort to go see a Matt Damon movie? I pity the fool.
Off Topic Here: What happened to the Daily Birthday Open Thread? Haven't seen it in a while. C'mon! Today is Kato Kaelin's birthday and what have we to show for it?
I wouldn't even be the slightest bit surprised if I were to ever read a story about Matt Damon being caught in a CIA terrorist sting, sneaking national security secrets to Al-Quada. I wouldn't even bat an eye. What a headcase!
Saddam did have WMDs. He used them against Iran and the Kurds. Why does every leftie forget this?
Toss this turkey on the trash heap of history, along with "Redacted", "In the Valley of Elah", "Rendition"….and along with the brutal, murderous dictatorship of Saddam Hussein – which Matt Damon seems nostalgic for…
Saddam had WMDs in the past and used them. Every flipping person on earth, including many of today's top democrats thought he had WMDs. Not only that, but there was a list of 13 or 14 different reasons why we went into Iraq. WMDs was only one of those reasons. No one seems to care how many of the others were fully justified. All they care about is their doubt that the WMDs ever existed.
And it will lose a ton of money. I address that to the "Hollywood is all about the bottom line" crowd. No star has the star power to spit directly into the face of the military and not see his movie tank. If you want to be anti-military, you have to gussy it up with blue cheese like Avatar so the sheeple won't notice.
Lefties would have to be able to create memories to actually maintain them. In place of memories, they have feelings.
How quickly people forgot his use of them in the Iraq-Iran war, or on the Kurds and Shiites when Bush 41 encouraged them to revolt, then turned his back on them, leaving them to die in the desert.
There is no doubt he had them. Before Scott Rider and his UN inspectors were driven out they rounded up, cataloged, stored and scheduled the demolition of 75,000 liters of VX nerve gas.
I am under no illusion that saddam kept them to keep both Iran and his own people down. The question isn't did he have them, but where are they now?
Nobody seems to care about genocide, unless it's in Darfur (and even then, few people care). I guess the lefties would prefer the Kurds handled their own problems. America should worry about saving the polar bears and icebergs instead.
For modern liberals, history began yesterday. They don't even bother to remember things that help them make points.
I would. Al-Quada is too smart to waste time on a tool like him.
I hope and pray it tanks. Then maybe the studios will get the message….bashing the armed forces and the american public in general is not a good idea if you want to make money. On the other hand, if you're share holders are more interested in many political statements, then well…carry on
No surprise. And if anyone calls them on it, we'll get the usual spiel about how they're "presenting an alternative viewpoint" or "trying to make people think" or some other condescending, self-important pseudo-mission statement. And if that doesn't work, it'll be "it's not a political statement, we just wanted to tell an exciting story."
My question is, after all these years why make a fucking movie whose entire premise is "Bush (or somebody) lied, people died?" I mean, liberals have been peddling that nonsense ever since 2003. We've had plenty of time to soak up the message. Is dramatizing it somehow going to help? Or is it just the anti-war people engaging in self-gratification?
I think these people live in their own little world. They have no idea what the American people know, what we think, or – sad to say – what kinds of movies we want to watch. So some people in Hollywood think it's their duty to tell us.
ever since Good Will Hunting Matt seems to think he is actually smart. The butchering of the Bourne series is simply a crime against the author.
To Matt Damon and his fellow Red Diapers in Hollywood who so eagerly spread lies about the country that affords them the security and liberty to engage in such malevolent slurs: "Honi soit qui mal y pense (Evil on he who evil thinks)."
Kato Kaelin…the leech?
Please.
Rove at this moment on Rush's show is pointing out that Democrats looked at the same info that Bush and Clinton before him saw and agreed, including Reid, Boxer, et cetera, and reached the same conclulsion, namely that Hussein had WMDs.
Nobody should pay to see this tripe.
BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!
Matt Damon isn't fit to wear the uniform of a CWO, even in a film.
Saddam Hussein had WMDs, and as several posts have already mentioned, he used them on the Kurds and Iran.
But who's to say that the remaining number of WMDs weren't moved to Syria in all those months it took for the UN to finally authorize us to go in and look? Or sold to a neighboring country?
It would be brutal irony if one of those were dropped on Hollywood at some point in the future:
"To Hollywood, got your WMDs right here. Love, Iran"
Matt should stick with something he knows – playing Jason Bourne.
Another movie I will never see.
As far as Matt goes, I'd settle for a zipper accident. For now.
Oh, Gee, I read the plot spoilers, now I can't see the movie, As if I needed
another reason.
Don't bitch! Vote with your wallet, boycott of all things GE. It could work if the Obamatons don't bail them out.
Yes. To me, the real story, the untold story is where did the weapons go? After all these years, I'm still waiting for that shoe to drop.
AWESOME!!!! you all know this is the reference to Matt Damon in "Team America"!!!! beat me to it!!!
Bet good money they were transshipped to various other muslim countries via Syria.
PLEASE DO A SEARCH ON YOUTUBE OF Al Gore Saddam WMDs or even Bill Clinton WMD Saddam! and what did they do? besides make a law that allowed the use of force for regime change? They did nothing, but speeches… but they believed!!!!
youtube: search: gore saddam wmd
Personlly, I'd like to see some studios that make anti-American claptrap in Chapter 11, it'd give me a warm feeling.
youtube search: al gore saddam wmd
youtube search: al gore saddam wmd
He's already doing that. He's great at being a world-class doucherocket….
Propaganda for the enemy. All those involved are committing treason and endangering our troops.
Personally I'm not convinced they didn't have any WMDs. They had time to get them out, bury them in the desert, etc.
Speaking of Darfur..
Looks like I'm the only one who is.
Of course, that's because GWB was in the White House and everyone KNEW that he never cared about Africa. Unlike the 'Won who has…ummm…ummm…well, he made a speech, I think.
Since he lived on O.J.'s bread, he gets no thread…
May "Greenzone" die an quick, ignominious box office death.
Matty Damon is a "useful" idiot for the let and this White House and serves to represent the rest of the dim bulbs that populate Follywood.
I see "Malibu Gansta" Sean Penn wants anyone who refers to the dictator Chavez of Red Venezuela as a "dictator" arrested.
Ya, sure…or is that "yes sir."
As far as Dafur goes, the charitable assumption is that the Left is kind of stupid and believe that the way to stop the genocide is by holding charity poker tournaments and performances of traditional African dances. The less charitable assumption is that they know full well nothing they do will make any difference but like to feel good with their meaningless gestures. Much the same could be said for Tibet (the Chinese have not promised to leave when bumper sticker sales reach 1 billion).
It's an odd but quite common mindset that says that mass murder is unfortunate, but the real evil is sending in the military to stop the mass murder.
Thank you for pointing this out. Saddam murdered entire cities of Kurds with WMDs. There was even a documentary on History Channel about it. 50,000 Kurds were murdered.
You nailed it Nathan, saving animals that nature does on it's own is far more important, and trees, don't forget about the trees! Ignore all scientific evidence that shows how nature takes care of all that – let's just find something to 'save' and put in to get tons of government funding to create havoc – makes me sick.
As for Matt Demon – he's an uneducated lil twit with a very big head and small mind, same with his buddy Benny. Now I get to add BonJovi to the llist, have these people really all lost their ever lovin minds??!!
Madman Tot
That's an anagram of Matt Damon. Just throwing it out there…
Not to mention their huge push to perpetuate the man-caused global warming myth! Do you remember NBC's green week? I do. And I won't forget it.
To the million plus bloggers that come here monthly, who are conservatives and are FED UP with this crap like GREEN ZONE and all the worthless anti-troop films since 1970. There is a way to fight back and make yourself heard out there. Don't patronize this film, Hurt Lockers or any film coming out of Hollywood. They money you would put down for these films I would suggest you support conservative independent filmmakers like myself.
I have a film called FORGOTTEN HEROES, i made it 21 years ago to honor a generation of VIETNAM VETS who were spit on by the malcontents and by Hollywood on film for 30 plus yeas. Now they are doing it to our kids today. My film was 'politely ignore' by the left in Hollywood because the Vietnam Vets are not heroes they are rapist, baby killers and Mai Lai happened everyday by every troop out there.
I am selling my DVD to anyone who loves and supports our troops. I don't care if the trolls buy it, hate it and bad month it. As a matter of fact I'd love them to come after me like they did Mel Gibson. I am selling my DVD to the average American out there and they are very happy with the film because they are not jaded as we all are here in Hollywood.
FORGOTTEN HEROES is the only 35mm narrative film that honors the Vietnam troops and that the film applies to what is going on today. If you have to see a war film, I would asked you all to support FORGOTTEN HEROES and buy the DVD. If you end up loving the film they tell the world, this is a total complete grass effort on my part to get the word out there. If you end up not liking it that is fine. As a filmmaker you can't please everyone and I'll be damn if I will try. However, what you can do is give that DVD to a VIETNAM VET and tell him this is a cinematic THANK YOU and WELCOME HOME.
We are donating 5.00 dollars off each DVD to the AMERICAN VETERANS DISABLE FOR LIFE MEMORIAL FUND. Each purchase of FORGOTTEN HEROES is a victory for our side fighting these leftist who hate America and all those who defend her. I made this film back in 88 and it took two years to finished. Hollywood refuse to pick it up because of the imagery of how the Nam guys are shown. Right now my film is the only game in town for the conservative movement. If you are waiting for an independent filmmaker to make a film with no money and have it come out at the level of Saving Private Ryan don't hold your breathe. We conservatives don't have the resources to make A level films that counter act this leftist factory of hate.
visit the site and read about it http://www.forgottenheroesthemovie.com
If you people out there are truly FED UP with the leftist then I would follow Andrew Breitbart 's call to arms and take the OFFENSIVE here and fight back against this Hollywood movie factory spewing out hate. Pick up FORGOTTEN HEROES and throw it at HOLLYWOOD and remind them that THEY SPIT on the troops and we honor them in a small nothing of a film called FORGOTTEN HEROES.
After 21 years I have heard it all from everyone and for me its all relative, I don't really care what people say that attack the film, because one can't please everyone and I am not going to try. I won't listen to people who are conservatives, who are too jaded and expect my film to be like BEN HUR on a budget of craft services on a Spielberg film. Besides most of them haven't made a film and have no idea what it is like to fight the Gods of negativity and come out the other end with a film that honors our vets.
All I can tell each of you out there, is that if you are truly FED UP then there is an alternative, it isn't Star Wars its FORGOTTEN HEROES but it has a powerful message that honors all of our troops and by your purchase we can begin to turn things around. I am the only conservative filmmaker with a 35mm narrative film, it isn't a documentary and it isn't A BRIDGE TOO FAR either. However it is a film that each of you out there can defy Hollywood, take the offensive and fight back with something.
Its better then sitting around being pissed off and doing nothing. Lets go and pick a fight with these leftist malcontents and use FORGOTTEN HEROES as the bomb that ignites this war.
It has to start somewhere, why not with FORGOTTEN HEROES. Its the only game in town for better or for worse, use it and lets give these bastards a black eye.. Lets teach them we are not mooks that we will fight and fight back hard and hurt them.
The problem is that we have not yet found documentation of WMDs.
Hussein might have been trying to posture against Iran long enough to get the Chinese involved in running his oil wells. The idea is that once the UN sanctions ran out in two years, he intended to deny the West access to his oil by inviting the Chinese in to run his oil operations. We're talking about, in the beginning, thousands of "workers." This was possibly an attempt to support radical Muslim aspirations to ruin the dollar and the West's economy by playing China against us.
None of the Palestinans I had to work next to at the time name Iraq, but their goal was to shift oil sales to China for the purpose of destroying the West.
From out point of view: better safe than sorry about both the WMDs and the oil.
When I first saw Team America I did not yet know what a d-bag Damon is. I felt kind of bad for him. And I was a little disappointed in the South Park team for picking on him. Now that I know what I know, I must say thank you, Matt and Trey for being ahead of the curve.
Maaat DAY-MON!
I bet a whole dollar that says Bin Laden will watch this movie more times than actual Americans paying to see it
Astounding, Hollywood! Thanks for the heads up. I noticed Clinton has a video there of the same theme, "Why aren't the republicans doing anything about these weapons of mass destruction?!"
Typical.
Matt Damon at his usual….. plus GE is behind it.. they are helping all of the terror states…. would you think anything else…. slandering america,, maybe OBLABLA will apologize for this as well
I'm done with this guy….not supporting his films anymore.
Isn't a boycott of all things General Electric in order?
I mean, there is a point that it's just not an accident any longer. Everything the company sponsors is anti-American.
The existence of this movie means there is an excellent OPPORTUNITY for conservatives and anyone who loves America to set the record straight – our own $30 million war movie, for example, or a well-financed documentary with high production values and a decent marketing budgets and wide distribution.
But all that would take time, effort, and MONEY, so I predict (outside of a few blog spots and other venues to preach to the choir) the conservative will be little or nothin. True to form, conservatives don't want to invest time, effort and MONEY in movies. They prefer to feather their own nests. As a result, re-written history from the left becomes "the only truth," and conservatives have no one to blame but themselves.
you see, there is an answer…. It is War.
i'm not going to see it for free, i'm not going to watch it on tv, i'm not going to grab it in the bin, 2 for $3.
sorry, got stuck on poetry!!!!
I think the point has been made by others on this forum that if leftist agenda movies are not profitable i.e. people turn their backs on them, the producers will stop making them. I think there's some truth to that and that time may be coming soon. We the People are starting to wake up and become aware of the messages that are being crammed down our throats and how damaging these messages can be.
My guess is that there are very few producers who will go into their own pockets to produce a film that won't have an audience.
one IRAQI GENERAL interviewed on The Daily Show with Jon Steward said he knew personally, pilots in the Iraq forces, the flew them to Syria. Jon nodded and went on to ask something else.
alright i ordered it! i saw your review on http://www.movieguide.org and i trust them and now you!!! thanks for your perseverence! i'm a fellow indie film maker, but am now working on my strictly entertainment stuff. but have my own hardcore patriotic christian conservative fundamentalist line up happening soon. i do have my very own sales agent trying to sell my 1st feature. am working on my 2nd.

If people would go back and watch or read Bush's speech leading up to the invasion, they'd see it was about Saddam's weapons PROGRAMS not his STOCKPILES.
His programs were confirmed over and over again, and we even found TONS of yellowcake.
This dictator who killed over one million of his own people was toppled in compliance with UN resolution 1441.
End of story. If you're against the policy, then get educated about it, but the type of slime being pushed in films like these is treasonous. These villains like Damon should be called to answer for lying about their country in a time of war.
It disgusts me.
If I was a saavy film investor, I would put my money in pro-American way of life films. There is a HUGE market just waiting to be tapped. I wish I had an extra few million right now. Seriously.

Yep, I fully believe that he either had them or had the capability to start producing as soon as things blew over and he thought we were looking the other way. Any existing ordinance went elsewhere in the time it took to build up to the invasion. Despite what we're often told, there was no "rush to war" and Saddam had every chance to either come clean or ship his goods out.
LOL Mr Baker, I am willing to bet that he saw it more then most conservatives that say they promote conservative filmmakers here in Hollywood.. they are way too jaded. But the heartland is where I am getting sales and kudos. I have always felt that they are the real judges of film work. They know what they like and dislike and they don't have an ax to grind or a butt to kiss.
I won't see anything he does. This was obviously going to be a politically driven hatchet job.
Uneducated??? Why he ALMOST graduated from Harvard before he quit. How dare you!!! Take it back.
[/sarc]
Thank you for your purchase I will get it out today for you my fellow warriorfilmmaker. You need to find a funding source as I did to fund the film. My mistake in the 90s was I didn't raise the P& A to take this out myself if I had I wouldn't be having this problem. Distribution isn't being a rocket scientist, I urge you to sell your own film. You can do exactly what your sales agent does. Hire him in your company to keep them all honest. I can tell you horror stories. Get the funding to produce and distribute your second film so you never need Hollywood and you deal directly with Rush Limbaugh's audience and Sean's and the rest. The hell with the studios they are not going to give you a dime with a christian theme film you end up like me. And your fellow conservatives will only think you are a pain in the ass, until you get funded again then they go up your ass for a paycheck. That is just the way it is.
Excellent find! Here's the link.

No way in hell the ragheads would ever set one off in Hollywood. That's their best ally in the planet outside of the Democrat party.
I will not watch him on my couch, I will not watch him in my house. I haven't seen a Matt I've liked yet, except the one that's a marionette.
Yep, only the left could call 6 months of debate and 14 more months of deployment a rush.
I watched very closely the invasion of Iraq unfold on the MSM. And the way the democrats, modern-liberals, and moon bats reacted, literally stunned me. I did not think it was possible that regular Americans could possibly treat their fellow Americans the way the did, especially in a time of war.
I will never forget what they did. They are marked for life in my book.
Moreover, we now know for a fact that U.S. troops discovered 500 tons of uranium (a small amount of it enriched) in Iraq after the 2003 invasion, but had to sit on the information for a very long time because of concerns that the terrorists might be able to get hold of it. The New York Times itself reported this back in May 2004. Why, indeed.
As Sean Hannity said, it's like going in to see if Hannibal Lecter is in his cell. If you don't find him in the cell, you don't walk away and say, "Well, guess there was no reason to make such a fuss about it in the first place." At least, I wouldn't. Howard Dean might.
Nolo, I guarantee you they will not care if it does. I feel like I figured this out a while ago. They want to believe they're avant-garde artists, which are by definition a minority, yet their careers depend on making money by pandering to the public. So they get around their inner turmoil by churning out crap like this, alternating with the big money-makers. This is exactly why, in my opinion, the small and obscure movies always win the big Oscar awards, as we saw Sunday with "The Hurt Locker" beating "Avatar." (Not that I have a problem with that, I've heard good things about the former and utterly despise the latter, but still…)
In my opinion Howard Dean is a pathetic excuse for a human being. He'd sell his own mother for power.
I lived in Vermont when he was governor, and he was basically a normal person, no big deal, nothing special, just another Vermont politician, which meant you didn't hear much from them.
Then he figured out he could get votes by appealing to the absolute worse, basis, disgusting, ugly tendencies of the ultra far left. And he went for it like a whore.
I have no respect for any one who abandons their own principles in the name of unlimited power. In my opinion, they are beneath contempt. And Dean is a shinning example of that. I wouldn't waste the floogie to spit on him. He ain't worth it.
Another leftist turd… better get all the cinematic crap out before November.
Scud missles weren't WMDs? What?
I was going to say after this I refuse to watch a Matt Damon film ever again … but I did that long ago.
The thing is he tipped his had years ago … there's a line in Good Will Hunting where he asks Robin Williams if he's ever read "A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn" saying it would just blow him away.
20 years from now it will be George Bush that you or your children are cursing. All truth will eventually be revealed.
Yep, this movie lost me at Matt Damon!!!
Picking up Stoning of Soraya M on Blu-Ray Instead. If I can't find that at my local store than it's classic movie nite on Netflix. Already got "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" on watch it now!!!!!
Not wasting anymore of my time and money on these hollywood hater types. You don't like the country, then get the HE11 out……..
I don't need any funding. Just a sale, just distribution. Right now my films are just entertainment. My sales agent is traditional route, I'm too spread thin or something to want to deal with that. As a CG animator I have all my own sets, warriors, f/x, lighting, cameras, sound, editing, pretty much on 1 computer. I got nods from ralph bakshi, sales agent, film festival, ent lawyer consignment, so i got support but not the final sale. my wife is my executive producer… and any freelance i do. but i do plan on doing some hardcore conservative christian stuff!
You lived in Vermont under Dean? Oh, God help you. And I would agree that political whore pretty much sums up Dean's character.
I wont pay to see anything with Damon in it because he's an ignorant disciple of Howard Zinn. That's his right, it's also mine to spend my money (or not) as I see fit.
A four or five notcher. I like it.
What would you expect from a man who has Howard Zinn as a hero?
When I lived in Vermont, back in '85 – '87, it was a fairly laid back place. Bernie Sanders was mayor of Burlington where I lived, and he was a pretty cool mayor, I have to admit. They city was clean, there was a semi-vibrant night life, there festivals all summer long (as short as it was).
Sander's power base was I think called the rainbow party, UVM (Groovey-UV) could vote in local elections as long as they weren't registered to vote somewhere else, so being a college town (the population of Burlington doubled when college was in town), the students basically were the electorate.
As I recall, the first time I heard of Howard Dean was when the sitting governor was found dead, by his pool (heart attack, he wasn't in the water), and Dean was now technically the governor. And he'd pop up from time to time, nothing major, small state stuff, opening a new bridge, attending a funeral, nothing really at all.
I remember when I first hear he was entering the presidential race for 2008, I actually thought it was a good idea – some one sane entering the race to counter act the Clinton possibility, the Kerry inevitability, Edwards and the rest of the dwarves.
And the he went lunatic. And my jaw hit the ground. Just another touchstone in my journey back out of the rabbit hole.
What's he wearing around his neck..?
I know you're being sarcastic about GWB not caring about Africa. He pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into Africa to combat AIDS. That seems to be conveniently forgotten by everybody except the Africans that it actually helped.
After discovering that Damon was narrating Zinn's "A Peoples history of American" on the History channel, I wrote him off. Anybody that would associate themself with that liar has lost all credibility in my eyes.
It also calls into question the accuracy of the history channel. Maybe it should consider calling itself the The Revisionist History Channel.
Although, after the Oscars the other night there may be hope for Hollywood yet.
<><
If Matt Damon were to post here on this he would say "MATT…..DAMON….".
Sure did. The General public believe WMD's are nuclear, but in fact as you understand they are nuclear weapons, and or biological, and or chemical weapons. And they did use them against Kurds, and iranians.
And they would have used them again as the opportunity arrised.
Matt 'Zinn' Damon; darling of the progressive movement and tool for the Hollywood elitest factions.
And this movie features Paul Riechoff, the bald headed dirtbag founder of IAVA. If you are a GWOT vet, you have no business being a part of this group.
