Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Aw hell yeah, excellent piece of film there, I'm going to have to dig up my dvd of FMJ to catch up on the squad. I'd forgotten Baldwin's Animal Mother bad a** mother character, there's no better guy to be carrying the BAR!
I am still trying to figure out why 'Firefly' was cancelled. I enjoyed Adam's "public relations" character, Jayne.
Men are awesome. Fact.
Cheers for the man they call Jayne! I like Adam Baldwin so much, I even sat through his low-budget teamup with Tony Todd and Elizabeth Berkley, Control Factor, and KINDA liked it. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my bunk.
Unforgettable movie.
YUMMY!!!! Love me some Mucho Guys, gonna have a smile on my face today.
Word. Particularly the men around here.
My favorite ALL TIME Adam Baldwin scene is when he "joins" the crew of Serenity.
Definitely a guy you want on your side. LOL.
Dittos to that, Joan.
While they are getting harder to find in this age of the Metrosexual, the Awesome Man is still out there…
Rare jewels.
"Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you who's in command."
Fox Programming.
Don't even get me started……!!!!!
(I'm still a little peeved about the cancellation of "Space: Above and Beyond" -where's the closure on that one??)
The Hero of Canton: the Man They Call Jayne…..
Jayne: "What we need is a DIE-version….I say Zoe gets nekkid."
Wash: "No."
Jayne: "I can get nekkid."
Wash & Simon (in disgust): "NO!"
Overlooking the fact Baldwin is from Illinois (I'm a cheesehead) I have to say he is one of my favorite actors and someone who's columns I try never to miss.
Jayne's a walking one-line machine! Plus his facial expressions were priceless.
"Time for some thrilling heroics!"
Oh, oh – and don't forget Adam Baldwin in that very short-lived (CBS, I think?) one-hour drama, "The Cape."
Back in the day, before the DVR, I videotaped a few episodes. I still have them.
I believe that's "Who's in ruttin' command," isn't it? He had such a way with words: "Time for some daring heroics!"
Happy Birthday Adam Baldwin!
DITTOS!!!
Brisco County Jr. too…but thank God we have a thousand episodes of House to watch into eternity.
I watch House, and it's a good show, but come on! Aren't we just seeing the same episode over and over now?
You got that right.
Funny you should post the scene from Full Metal Jacket just now. I got that movie last week and saw it again for the first time in 20 years. The scene shown here reminds me of the seen from Patton where George C Scott, tiring of the lack of progress his Army has made in forging the river in Itlay, goes across himself, showing the combat engineer how to do it.
He handles that M60 like it is as light as a pea-shooter!
My favorite Adam Baldwin character is as Jayne, in Serenity. Or Firefly. So many favorite scenes but when River beats him up in the bar? (but then she didn't fight fair!
Glad you are with us here, Adam…
Actually… Animal Mother was carrying an M-60, often referred to affectionately as "the pig." But I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment.
Amen, sister.
ohh he is a FIB. I don't like him now.
Fredrick the great used to say discipline in the Prussian army was so strong, that even if an officer has no idea how to lead men his orders would still be obeyed.
My best Adam Baldwin moment was coming into his full-hearted participation of Road-2-Recovery, biking 500 miles with injured vets from San Antonio to Dallas in spring 2009. Before I always thought Adam was the real deal. But his commitment to the ride, the cause and the men and women who fought and sacrificed for this country was intense, joyful and appreciative. I believe Adam is on the vanguard of an emerging new Hollywood that has its patriotic shit together. Happy birthday, Adam! Thanks for everything you do.
I had the good fortune several years ago to meet Adam on the course at Rancho Park GC in L.A. He was in the group in front of us, and things backed up. So we ended up sitting there on one of the tee boxes chatting about golf. My friend was playing the same irons that he was (Henry Griffiths). When his group was ready to go he asked me if I wanted to have a bet with him…five dollars. At the ninth, we compared scorecards and he had beaten me handily. When I tried to give him the five dollars, he refused. I remember he was playing every hole from the very back of the each tee box, too.
At the time, I had no idea of his political leanings, but I had enjoyed him in "My Bodyguard", and I was pretty impressed to see what kind of person he was in real life. Now, I'm glad he's on the same side as me.
Happy Birthday Adam. I still have your five bucks.
Maybe Marvel should look into hiring Adam for the Captian America films? I know he's older than they want but he looks like a complete badass and acts better than any of the kids they currently have listed as potential Caps.
"If you can't do something smart, do something right." HB @adamsbaldwin
That's not a BAR, but it is the M60 machine gun. I look back at Adam's career and find I pretty much really like all of it, from My Bodyguard to Chuck.
a real good guy in 'Independence Day'; best scene where he got to blast the first alien in captivity with his service Beretta, followed by a decent bad guy turn in 'The Patriot' where he plays Mel Gibson's traitorous neigbor.
Good stuff, there.
Happy Birthday, As far as FMJ goes, its the first half of that movie that gets the hair on my neck standing up. R.Lee well what can you say about the Gunny.
Adam is DA MAN!!!!!
I was lucky enough to meet Adam four and a half years ago at a convention in LA. I thought he was kind, genuine and sincere. He said a lot of things that clicked with me — the importance of family being one — and after being part of a fandom that consisted of a lot of left leaning people for so long, this was a welcome change. It was nice to know that one of my favorite actors was a conservative. A lot of people didn't get that then, but they certainly did after he joined Twitter. Oh, and he loves hockey. That scores even more points in my book.
Thank you, Adam, for speaking out when so many of us have been afraid to express our views. You've been a true inspiration. Happy birthday!
Who doesn't love Adam Baldwin?
Happy Birthday Adam! Have a fantastic day!
I read in the imdb trivia section that Ermey was originally supposed to be a consultant only, but when he was demonstrating Drill Instructor demeanor – barking an order – even Stanley Kubrick stood up at attention.
Happy Birthday. You are a joy, a breath of fresh air and a wonderful actor!
Adam Baldwin, thanks for all the fun entertainment and thoughtful tweets. Hope you have a kickass birthday!
Fox has this nasty habit of changing nights and times randomly, showing episodes out of order, and then complaining that a show isn't gaining a following.
I loved Space: Above & Beyond. My favorite scene is still the episode in which the Colonel duels with Chiggy von Richtoven interspersed with the gun salute at the pilot's funeral.
For those who haven't seen it, an ace alien pilot has been slaughtering humans, including a member of the unit which is the focus of the series. The Colonel in charge, grounded due to a medical condition, disobeys orders, steals a fighter, and goes after him. You see the honor guard at a young pilot's funeral say "Ready, Aim, Fire!" and then the camera cuts to the cannons on the Colonel's ship blasting like crazy at the alien.
Great show.
Chuck is actually the only thing on network TV able to lure me in right now. If it wasn't on I'd never watch them at all.
Happy Birthday Adam! No matter what anyone says "DC Cab" is on of my favorites, despite Bill Mahar being in it.
"Why are women are so uptight? They've got half the money and all the p*$$y."
"Is this glass bulletproof?"
"No, sir!"
What ever it is, if I was in that position, I'd want one of those.
Happy birthday, Adam! I wish I could get you a Texas Flashlight, but they don't appear to be for sale…
The last couple of Animal Mother's lines before his charge are what I imagine you might say on those really bad Twitter days when everyone seems to be petarded. Thank God you exist & for your contributions to the body of literature challenging ill conceived & unquestioned notions. Oh, & the acting thingy. Oh, & the brutal vanquishing of Larry's pretend daughter bashing alter ego. May I suggest that your next hash tag be #LotionyJazzHands?
And while we're at it, let's hear it for the conservative, opinionated, head strong women of the Big Sites!
Some guys may prefer the air headed bimbo types, but I prefer ladies who can make me think.
Thank you all!
Agreed. Stanley Kubrik and his team lay it all out there. The good, the bad and the ugly.
One of my favorites.
Totally love you, Adam…Happy Birthday. God bless you.
Happy Birthday Adam (we share the same birthday) and thanks for some great stuff over the years!
I heart, heart, HEART 'Firefly' and 'Serenity'; 'Full Metal Jacket' is one of my all-time favorites and okay, the girl in me just thought you were incredibly good looking in 'Independence Day.' (Something about the uniform and that "take no crap off the alien scum"? *bg*)
Have a great day and as someone already mentioned — glad you're on our side.
Happy Birthday Adam, thanks for the movie moments!
I enjoy your posts here; they make me think! Happy Birthday, and may God bless you and your family.
It's heartwarming to think that 25ish years ago you were running around east London being shouted at by Kubrick [GG]. I hope us locals were kind to you. I know a lot of us are very grateful to YOU for being genuine, big-hearted & with a wicked sense of humour. A very happy birthday and many more
.
I thought he was great in My Bodyguard.
Why is that movie never on cable?
I have a feeling if you donated it to support either American troops, disabled veterans, or Micheal Yon's reporting mission, he would more than agree, the debt is paid in full.
I'll even volunteer to match it, just let me know how much and which organization.
great line! Thanks…
Not trying to be technical here, but the title of the open thread doesn't mention the word birthday.
It is actually his birthday, though. =)
Happy Birthday, Adam! You make me laugh, you make me think, and you're Jayne Cobb. I wish there were a million more men just like you running around out there. Have a wonderful day, you deserve it.
No kidding! Too bad they're getting so hard to find these days with the metros taking over. Thankfully, this board's full of real men. =)
Perhaps this explains the exclusion of ref. to his B-day:

Happy Birthday!

My daughter introduced our family to Firefly, which we love. She attends Comic Con every year and the highlight was meeting Adam Baldwin and getting a picture with him. She is 21 and reads big hollywood daily. She was totally stoked to find Mr. Baldwin writes here. I introduced her to the bigs. WE LOVE JAYNE.
Is Adam going to do an epispode of Castle?
Happy birthday, Adam! Thanks for using your voice in support of truth, justice, and the American way!
Happy B-Day! Keep up the good work!
"Dear Diary, today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today we were kidnapped by hillfolk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever"
Happy Birthday Adam!
Happy Birthday AB! I've been on a bit of a Chuck bender lately so can hardly wait for the new eps.
Best wishes.

I don't know BUT a familiar face showed up on the Chuck set.

(He just stopped by; he's not guest starring.)
ID on TNT right now. Harvey Firestein just bit the dust so that means Adam's parts are coming up soon.
I remember that episode. The alien ship was a prototype, faster and better, fighter, they were testing against the human ships. The Colonel, who is himself a clone, considered a substandard human, by Terran society, meditates in his berthing area, looks at his medal, and decides that even though he is not considered a part of Terran society, he will do this for his own honor and possibly redemption seeing as the young pilot was killed because he was not there. The dog fight that ensues is one of pure determinatioon between two warriors of different cultures who know what they are doing. That exactitude was the real story and is the story in real life of our warriors who fight for this country. Our warriors are the best and the brightest of this nation and I think the story-line exemplifies what a true warrior is made of. That show made an impression on me.
Simon: There's a safe word. When I say the word…
Jayne: Well don't say IT!
Zoe: It only works on the girl Jayne.
Jayne: Oh. Well now I know it!
A funny blooper from Chuck starring Adam Baldwin:

"Do you know what the chain of command is?! It's the rutting chain I use to beat you with till you realize who's in command here!"
How's it sit? Pretty cunning don't ya think?
Happy Birthday, Adam. Thanks for brightening all of our days with not just entertainment, but thoughtful, well-written commentary. Looking forward to more of both! Many happy returns!
You are right of course.
Happy Birthday, Adam. Many happy returns.
Love this guy and this movie.
What I heard was that Fox wouldn't show the pilot first (getting people acquainted with the characters) , then didn't show the episodes in sequence – then pulled the series in less than a year.
I have learned with Joss Whedon you have to really watch the episodes to get into his series – any series.
I am becoming a Buffy fan – how many years after it ended? Firefly – what rich characters and what a shame it was canceled – what was the Shepard's background? Every one of the characters had a rich history just waiting to reveal
When Mal is trying to outbid the bandits for his loyalty?
Happy Birthday!!! You don't know what a joy it is to find someone in Hollyweird that leans to the right. I think I have learned more from you than I learned in any college class. Keep up the thought provoking tweets. I never would have dreamed that "Jayne" could be so smart.
You are my big damn hero
Yvonne
Nah, I doubt Marvel would have the balls to cast him as Cap, though I can' t even express how perfect he would be in that role. They're all PC now with their anti-Tea Party crap…
Anyhow, just want to offer encouragement to Adam Baldwin, have to admit I think I've got the straight version of a mancrush on him.
To Adam Baldwin, Happy Birthday and sincere thanks for being a bright light in the MSM world. Thanks dude.
Happy Birthday, Animal Mother
"I'm gonna tear you a new a**hole!" to Bill Maher…I wish.
Love Jayne so much. At work when we are excited about something we still say 'I'm going to my bunk'.
What am I the only one that remembers My Bodyguard? That movie is still awesome.
You guys know Adam is currently co-starring on Chuck, right? He rocks in it as usual. Happy Birthday to a wonderful and talented actor and writer – I'm so happy we (Americans) still have a "John Wayne" type of stand-up guy working in Hollywood, truly supporting our country and military and is not afraid to speak out (elequently and articulately) when he feels they are being threatened or wronged.
Happy Birthday, Adam Baldwin!
may God continue to bless you.
Adam, just have to say that like everyone else I loved you as Jayne in Firefly/Serenity. And I also really enjoy you as Col. Casey on Chuck too. But then, I also liked your short stint on Angel, your role in Independence Day, and pretty much everything else you put your stamp on. We could use a few more like you man.
"Just scare him."
"Pain is scary."
Firefly Captain: I just want you to scare him a little.
Jayne: Pain is scary.
i laffed my arse off on that line!
I'll be in my bunk….
Adam Baldwin is a dick. He's a right-wing loon and mean to his fans. In fact, I used to be fan until I found out, via a forum, what kind of jerk he really was.
