National Tea Party Convention to Present a Special Screening: ‘Generation Zero’ — The Truth About the Financial Meltdown
by Big HollywoodA controversial new documentary film, “Generation Zero” which provides a unique perspective on the causes of the recent financial meltdown and the economic debacle it triggered, will be premiering in a special screening at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville today.
Andrew Breitbart will provide introductory remarks concerning the film. Breitbart will also be introducing keynote speaker, Gov. Sarah Palin the following evening.
—–
Featuring more than 40 leading experts, authors, and pundits from across the political spectrum, “Generation Zero” exposes how the mindset of the “Greatest Generation” — to not let their children suffer through the same economic hardships that they did during the Great Depression and WWII — led to the “Me Generation” and ultimately the Clinton/Bush era of trading campaign contributions for government “cover” in the form of guaranteed bailouts of Wall Street’s speculative investments, thus sowing the seeds of economic disaster that would be reaped by coming generations.
“We are honored to be asked to share this film with the members of the Tea Party Nation, whose relentless efforts against ‘‘big government’ and wasteful spending are one of the country’s best hopes in making sure the ominous predictions of ‘Generation Zero’ do not come to fruition,” stated David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United Productions and Executive Producer of the film. Citizens United Productions produced the film in association with Victory Media.
Citizens United Productions, the leading production company for conservative films, released “Hilary The Movie,” the film that recently brought about the landmark First Amendment decision by the Supreme Court. In addition, Citizens United has produced such award winning films as “Perfect Valor,” “Border Wars”, “Hype: The Obama Effect” and “Rediscovering God in America,” among others.

“Generation Zero” was written and directed by awarding-winning director, Stephen K. Bannon (“In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed,” “Titus“). In addition Mr. Bannon and Alan Peterson (Hilary The Movie, Hype: The Obama Effect) acted as producers.
“This film is about a crisis – one that is as profound as The Revolution, The Civil War, or The Great Depression and WWII,” says Bannon. “The title ‘Generation Zero’ is ironic, as it refers to both the Baby Boomers and the generation born today: the one generation whose greed and fiscal mismanagement has destroyed the financial legacy and inheritance of the other.”
Commentators appearing in “Generation Zero” include, among others: Dr. Charles Krauthammer, Lou Dobbs, Larry Kudlow, Shelby Steele, Victor Davis Hanson, Amity Shales, Dick Morris, Peter Schweizer, Tobin Smith, Heather McDonald and Newt Gingrich.

The reason history repeats itself is because we are historically and morally tone deaf. This looks like the right film at the right time. Go Teabaggers (yes, I use that term!)
.
Must see this film, wish I was at the Tea Party convention right now instead of NC — those are my people.
.
Teabag 'em and tag em!
"Yes, I use that term!"
Why?
Oh, nice, they're using Strauss and Howe's generational theory! I have to see this movie now, I've always been fascinated by that theory.
"mindset of the “Greatest Generation” — to not let their children suffer through the same economic hardships that they did during the Great Depression and WWII — led to the “Me Generation” and ultimately the Clinton/Bush era of trading campaign contributions for government “cover” in the form of guaranteed bailouts of Wall Street’s speculative investments, thus sowing the seeds of economic disaster that would be reaped by coming generations."
What a load of crap…
if you really want to understand politics and history of he 20th century then read, Liberal Facism by Jonah Goldberg..but be forewarned this book may change your life and leave you very unsettled. Wall streets speculative investments were created by banks forced by liberal progressives to make loans to people that should have not been allowed to see the inside of a bank..follow the money..my frinds and knock off the class warfare and beating up capitalism. A century of progressive liberalism, growth in government, and interference and manipulaion of government in the market and private sector has brought us to this disater.
Generation Zero? Is that the new name for Baby Boomers? I like it, but I'd prefer something like Boomer Brats.
This is the BEST movie!!! Everyone needs to see this; it is time to WAKE-UP America before it is too late.
WOW…This film look interesting and informative…great trailer.
The website GenZero takes you to a web hosting site. Am I just not typing it in correctly?
It will be interesting to see who allows wide distribution by buying this. After all most of the other films already produced by this crew requires quite a wheres waldo kind of activism on the part of any interested viewers – why is that?
In other words, neatly sidestepping the fact that the entire GREAT DEPRESSION was caused by a lack of oversight and insufficient regulatory infrastructure, causing a long-term, multigenerational economic collapse that saw 25% unemployment for the better part of a decade and starvation and widespread homelessness, the film will focus on the evil evil regulations that were gutted in 1999 and 2000 which created a recession that saw 10% of Americans out of work for less than a year.
*SNARK*
The best way I can describe the message of "Generation Zero" is we have been living in a "post WWII inhale". It warns of the coming exhale and very uncomfortable realization that there is nothing any of us can do about it. The money has already been taxed, borrowed, printed and wasted and all that is left to do is prepare for the big "RESET" button to be pushed and hope that the Progressives don't get their way in the Post Global Meltdown. The big lesson for me is: never ever let any ideology rewrite history to erase mistakes from the past. Free market economics is the best system man has devised, but what it can't do is withstand the corruption of a self-serving government.
"The only thing new in this world is the history you don't know." FDR
That term is offensive and disgusting to most tea partiers; we'd appreciate it if you, and everyone else, would stop using it–at least when referring to us. When you are speaking of people who actually engage in that behavior, then it would be appropriate.
I HAVE seen this incredible film. Everyone should. The producers have simply NAILED IT. Unfortunately, the seeds sown in the past may ultimately lead to the second term in the title for our nation, our children, our future. ZERO… a sobering number, let's hope it's not too late. This is a MUST SEE!!
You know, being a tail end boomer, raised by the greatest generation, and having raised a daughter, I'm just plain pissed that so many parents either gave in, or never gave to begin with. I want to see this film. One previous poster mentioned naivete to describe the under 30s. Maybe for some, but I put the onus on parenting and schools. My daughter's just fine, but she sometimes anguishes over lifelong friends who still can't get beyond TGIF. Oh, we did the save the rainforest thing when she was young, for the principle of it. But, it takes so much more than simply allowing the village to raise a child, which was the mantra ala Carter and Clinton eras. The village idiot reproduced like rabbits a while back, so it most certainly takes a parent, and engaged family/friends to raise a reasonable and responsible thinking person.
The hard part for us Boomers, early or later along the scale, is knowing that our kids are dealing with that little tiny dried up sponge of idiocracy that the village popped into a bowl of water and it's growing, and growing.
After hearing the stories, the history, from my parents and my grandparents, which I then re-told to my daughter, while my parents corrected my imaginative embellishments while telling her the same stories, I think I would've liked to have lived during the 30s and 40s. Old movies aside, it's like something very precious and real has been lost. With that said, if you get a moment, look for Clara on You Tube. She's the elderly woman who demonstrates depression era cooking while telling even more stories. My daughter found her, and charmingly enough, sent my mother Clara's cookbook.
Problem of congress using our taxes to buy votes. Tax users shouldn't be allowed to vote. We need some health care only because of all the dead weight. If the demos in congress were sincere, they would pass a strong tort reform. They lack the courage.
This is a great film. I wish I was down @ the Tea Party Convention instead of NY right now. I think everyone should see this film because it shows how much the current generation is going to pay for past mistakes.
Let Tom Arico go to PBS…we will go to the Citizens United website and read more sbout their great struggle to protect our 1st A rights as well as the successful outing of one sleazy Progressive's breaking of election Finance Laws, Hillary Clinton, LIAR, LIAR, PANTSUIT ON FIRE! Eh eh eh…Mr Evil does not like you.
As a Baby Boomer, the question I ask myself, and I suspect many others as well, is no longer what's in it for me, but what have I contributed or accomplished. It is a sobering question for Boomers who have surfed the great wave of post WW2 prosperity without a whole lot of effort relative to the struggles prior generations have had. The founders of our country, those living through the Civil War, and the Great Depression come to mind. Recently, the last two living WW1 veterans of the British Army passed away and soon, the Greatest Generation will pass as well. We will be on our own. We will become the gatekeepers and the guardians for the generations to follow. Now instead of not trusting anyone over 30, we will not trust anyone under 30, not because of a deep animosity to a younger generation, but a realization that the naiveté of our youth apologized for some of the latter part of the 20th Century's great tragedies and villains ( Che, Pol Pot, Mao). We are seeing that same naiveté in those 30 or younger, some of whom think that life is nothing but a free download and that “hope and change” have meaning. We’ve been there before. We are now as the default guardians of the West's free democracies and markets. Will we as a generation be able to step up to the challenges at hand?
The release of Generation Zero comes at a time when citizens of our nation, and Boomers in particular, are struggling to understand why our economy and our nation’s exceptionalism have been challenged to such a critical level not seen since the Great Depression. This is a timely film.

My experience with Citizens United is their docs are too boring for PBS.
I've seen some of their work at film festivals (remember the Liberty Film Festival?) and became extremely disapointed by their product. The production value is excellent (great sound, color and focus) but the delivery bores me to tears.
This is a real eye opener. Generation Zero needs to find a way into the main stream particularly to the younger adults. It is time this country change and not the kind we heard in the 2008 election. The 1960's brought on a progressive movement, now almost 50 years later we need a conservative movement. Generation Zero helps see the past and the the dangerous path we are speeding down. Hopefully it will find it's way onto screens in college classrooms and homes and its messege will grow.
Looks like a propaganda film. Lots of montages and eye-burning imagery for the idiots. Oversimplified, easy-to-digest "information" that just adds noise to the debate.
There is no surer and faster way to take the negative connotation out of the word (99% of the people have no idea it's supposed to be naughty anyway), than to apply it to something positive, which is why I, a fellow California Tea Partier, will use it.
Besides, being offended is for the left (and the weak). Gird up.
As some one else noted – the web site does not appear to exist. If you are going to promote a film, and I assume they do want people to see it, at least have an address that works!
Also, I agree great production values plus poor writing equals trash (Avatar anyone?) – whether I agree with a films political view point or factual soundness I do not want to be bored or embarrssed to show it to someone else who may not share my view point – at least I have felt underwhelmed by other Citizens United products. The needed balance of compelling visuals plus good writing and sound argumentation geared toward a non-convert were sorely lacking. However having said all of that I would still very much like to see this one, but wait, the website doesn't exist. I'm sure if I dig long enough online I'll find it, but this is lousy marketing – a marketing 101 error, and we wonder why the leftist controlled media has people in their thrall.
When do we get to see it?
I have said this for years, I am part of the baby boomers. The greatest generation was great in all they did for America. They came out of the depression and fought a war to keep the world free. The only thing they did wrong was they spoiled the living hell out of their kids the baby boomers. We are living with 50 to 60 year old spoiled kids who misread everything they were taught in life. Dr. Spock ruined an entire generation and when his own son killed himself he apologized and said his book was wrong. Too late for you and the rest of his Dr. Spock. They took God out of our schools in 62 and it all went to hell. The school system was destroyed by John Dewey who was an FDR progressive appointment and a new dealer. This was all part of the Wilson's progressive plan and FDR ran with the ball and today we have this mutant form of progressivism carried on by one of the most spoiled bunch of babies and the biggest one is in the White House. However, ALL THIS TOO SHALL PASS and they will all turn to dust and the country will go on. It is up to the rest of us conservative baby boomers like RUSH to keep hammering this wall until we bring it down.
The website is generationzeromovie.com. It's not for sale yet, unfortunately — just a graphic so far, and a release date of "Spring 2010."
I agree. I'm tired of words that have been used for generations with decent meanings being hijacked and made seemingly unacceptable by a few. I don't have the time or energy to be offended, I'm too busy being tea'd off.

I had the pleasure of seeing the documentary film at the Tea Party in Nashville on Friday evening last and I must say I was completely blown away. Anyone who calls themselves an American must see this film.
Idiots like you are the one's who got us to this place.
You omit the fact that those of the "Greatest Generation" are the people that believed in and elected then turned control of our nation over to these progressives. Then the boomers after a lame revolution continued the trend in spades. Don't forget it is "We the people" who put these people in power. It should be obvious that a majority have elected to go with the progressive ideals over the last 100 years or so. That my friend is the sad fact of the matter.
Does anyone know if this movie will be closed-captioned for the deaf and hearing-impaired?
Question:
40 years ago a man working grunt labor/production housed fed clothed vacationed transported a wife and three children.
Now you can not.
Was that era a wrong way of doing business?
By default the answer is 'Yes', since that reality NOW, is completely unobtainable…..without Govt 'help'.
There's your culprit, sorry, but it is Business.
Business runs Congress, we all know that.
I like some of the things the TEA Party stands for. It really takes from the cause though to so completely lay all that ills at Obama's and current Congress' feet. This has been sculpted since before Ronnie. (Though RR really got the ball rollin'.)
The horror is, even if we vote out all the refuse, both machines have decades of fresh fish already in the pipeline.
As hard as it is, we need to vote with our wallets.
Your health care insurance company, which cleared a cool billion last year, is asking for money from the Feds/State/Local govts to build a new 100,000,000 building downtown just a few years after the LAST one?
Pay for it yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
You even HAVE the damn money.
Take your business elsewhere.
We have the power, it will be difficult.
But somewhere, some shrewd new businessman just might get it.
It is our only hope.

I, too, am a Baby Boomer, '55, but more specifically a unique term call Generation Jones, '54-'65. Obama is also a Generation Jones. Both of us share a common trait– distrust of government. However, we are at complete opposites of the political spectrum. He chose to infiltrate it to change it. I encourage everyone to read THE BILDERBERG CONSPIRACY: Inside the World's Most Powerful Secret Society by H. Paul Jeffers © 2009. I'm not sure yet that the author believes there is a conspiracy and perhaps believes a global unification of governments is a good thing, but as I read it alarm bells are sounding. There is a conspiracy theory that this Society (created in 1954) that is filled with a membership by invitation only of bankers, politicians, business and military leaders, royalty, elitist journalists, etc. orchestrated our current financial collapse. It was the Bilderbergers that created the idea of the European Union. And they intend to expand. They want to create the South and Central American Federation merging Canada and Mexico with the United States. But this can't be achieved as long as capitalism remains strong in the US. Hence, the need to collapse the economy. I'm not even halfway through it. It is filled with names and dates. Mind boggling. I ran across mine in the History section of Barnes and Noble. I wouldn't be surprised if this movie addresses some of this.

It's not a "load of crap." In fact it fits very well with the ideas you talked about. The very idea that banks should be used as tools of social engineering could only happen in a generation that had forgotten about the great financial crisis of the 1930s and how it came about in the 1920s. A more responsible generation would not have used the banks this way.
There are some things that transcend politics, and yet have a profound impact on whole political movements of entire generations. If you really take the time to understand generational dynamics theory, it will open your mind and give you a deeper understanding. Like the book you mentioned, it may change your life and leave you very unsettled. We are in for a very bumpy ride that is only just beginning. We haven't seen anything yet.
Yes, it is time to wake up, and everyone should see the movie, but it is already too late– the financial damage has been done and will have long and lasting consequences. That doesn't mean we can't gird up and navigate through the coming crisis better if we are better armed with an understanding of what is going on and why.
I don't understand where you get this. Does the film talk about evil evil regulations gutted in 1999 and 2000? From my understanding of the generational theory it espouses, it will probably say the current crisis is due in large part to the fact that those regulations were gutted. Generational Dynamics theory as I understand it agrees that the Great Depression was caused by lack of oversight, by irresponsibility on the part of a whole generation, and that we are seeing the repeat of that same thing in different form in our day.
How about some specific gripes you have with the film and/or the Generational Dynamics theory itself, instead of broad general criticism based on a 30-second trailer?
If you want to learn about the generational theory behind this movie, read The Fourth Turning by Strauss and Howe, or go to http://www.generationaldynamics.com which is run by John Xenakis (one of the contributors to this film). The theory is a bit hard to swallow at first, but it fits so well with history, and has made such accurate predictions in the last decade, that I found it quite compelling the more I read about it. It gives a much larger perspective on things than we are used to in this age of soundbites and short election cycles.
Wow, we can really expect some honest film making from the fanatics at Citizens United. Because of this think tank, there is no longer a legitimate judiciary branch to check the others.
Yeah, the financial meltdown is a failure of culture, not capitalism. That is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Not surprising the jesus freaks of this country march like slaves behind this propaganda. Why wouldn't they, they have never questioned anything in their life.
Keep taking in the rear by the corporate interests that produce such garbage. You deserve it America
Yeah idiots like him, not greedy capitalists robbing the American public from little black boxes immune from regulation and oversight
you should only pray for bigger government fool
your childish response sums up the ignorant teabagger movement in 12 words
wrong on so many levels
Big government is a direct result of the failure of free market capitalism. The New Deal, for example, was put in place to protect America from the horrors of the system. Governments all over the world were forced into protectionism.
Its quite comical that you think the banks were forced by liberals to do anything.
Also, fascism rose out of the ashes of market collapse and it looks like its making a comeback.
Did you try http://www.generationzerothemovie.org – or citizensunited.org? I got to it. I think those are the links.
then you just don't get it…..
"Wall street speculative investments were created by banks 'forced' by liberal progressives to make loans to people that should not have been allowed to see the inside of a bank.'''''' Okayyyyyyyy. A few things wrong with that statement .. prior to the crazy years .. between 95 and 2007-08, subprime loans often performed better than the usual loans. Wall street has been speculating .. forever. Short selling has become a way to make money on nothing but a bet. Wall Street's whiz kids invented weapons of mass destruction called derivatives, CDO's, credit default swaps, which they sliced and diced and sold hither and yon, here and abroad. THEN they invented INSURANCE to pay for their mistakes … or rather CYA cause the US taxpayer, worker, citizens is paying for their mistakes.
Sorry Pete but your generation already S**T the bed. You are the guardians of nothing. I hope my GenX brothers and sisters can save this place from the crap hole Boomers have made. Our children deserve better.
try typing in generationzero or generation zero. I didn' t have any problem finding their web site at all or even better, here is the web address: http://www.GenerationZeroMovie.com
As far as those who think more big government is the answer and control over everything including the air we breath. Good luck and go somewhere else and try living under the type of system you seem to want before trying to ram it down our throats………………………….you just plain don't know what you are asking for.
I HOPE this documentary helps get EVERYONE started on fixing the problem of EXCESS SPENDING. Both parties are to blame. Lets get the spending cut, even raise SOME taxes IF WE HAVE TO. But WE THE PEOPLE need to get a 500 billion dollar surplus every year for the next 30 years just to pay off the excessive spending habits of OUR generation. Our kids (I am 55) are already strapped with that burden. If we don't change our ways NOW, our grand kids will not have a chance. Everyone will turn to Socialism because it will be an easier choice than paying off this debt.
[...] Source: Big Hollywood [...]
True capitalism hasn't been allowed to exist due to "progressive" liberal policies and manipulated markets. The new deal was a RAW DEAL and put in place the foundation of entitlements that have lead us down this path. Roosevelt was a banker, big government dictatorial NIGHTMARE!!
god luck with that
You have a point regarding Wall Street. You fail to see, however, how the snowball of subprime loans began. In the Carter years a bill was passed that was the "pearl" of the snowball. When the gov''t told the banks to lend more and more to subprime borrowers, those applicants did not fit the risk model for the banks, so Fannie and Freddie (thru the gov't) assured the banks that they would take over the risk…..then the banks began lending to anyone with a pulse. They also had to eliminate the proof of income -requirement and eliminate down-payments in order to make sure every American could buy a home.
Not everyone SHOULD own a home. It is a responsibility, not a right. Every home related industry participated in the greed. Greed plays a role both in private industry and in government. This will not stop until we drop the hammer on all folks who participate in graft, corruption and public theft. Put a few Congressmen in the slammer and this will stop.
I couldn't agree more. Besides, it's fun teabagging Progressives and Socialists. Believe me, after I'm done with them, they will never drink tea again… not even iced tea!
PBS will never air this movie because of it's political leanings to the left…..uh….far left…!
The one thing that really captured my attention WRT this film is the expression: 'Generational Narcissism'. I have a Lit professor (here in Australia) who uses the very same expression to describe this generation of 'boomers'! As a gentle Englishman in the antipodes, he can hardly be written off as a north American 'tea bagger', but he speaks frequently of just the same thing this movie does. Same idea, different perspective. Very interesting! He even managed yet another complaint in his blog this last week: http://jdfrodsham.blogspot.com/2010/02/family-and...
Propaganda at best sounds like an angry, disgruntled family member down on whoever disagrees with his bitter life's philosophy while considering himself to an enlightened soul.
I have to take one issue with this film. The generation zero should have been the generation in 1913 when the progressives were giving us the 16th and 17th amendments and starting to get their hooks into our lives. The boomers made it worse but the grand parents of the boomers were the ones that started it all.
They're called psuedo-intellectuals and they are part of the problem also. I bet he wears "smart glasses". Our generation puts too much trust in anyone with PhD after their name. If this movie doesn't address the complete collapse of our education system then I have a suggestion for their next film. They can use "Propaganda at best" as proof of our intellectual decline. If he went to public school in America I wouldn't be surprised because he is marching like a slave behind the NEA propaganda.

The problem with such blatant and utter stupidity that conservatives like my father and grandfather whom lack the logical inference to surmise is that the generations which predate them said the exact same things about their genrations. It's been that way throughout history since we talking monkeys first began grunting and chances are when I get old enough that I have no useful purpose left in life, I will probably bitch about my children's generation too. No generation is any better or worse than any other. They're merely different from each other and a large group of titty-babies just can't deal emotionally or psychologically with change. So, they become conservatives.
After reading so many of these posts, it just makes me want to lower my I.Q. by quite a few points, run to my nearest church to claim I love a fake god, and tout limited government while I use that same government to tell homosexuals and women what they can do with their bodies. In other words, I want to become a Fox News Channel brainwashed tea bagger. It was a nice entertaining piece of artwork but about as intelligent as a rock. How stupid can anyone ever be blaming anything on a generation? It reminds me of my idiot father and grandfather always blaming the younger generations for everything and saying that we're lazy, spoiled, etc.
Why do I say all of this? It's because the producers of this cartoon left out a very important piece of information… that many unethical and sometimes illegal tactics, identical to those which led to the current financial crisis, ALSO led to the financial crisis of the great depression. What? Did I just say that? Yes. I did. The tea baggers might want to do a little digging into history beyond the propaganda BS they learn in school to find that this is not the first, second, third, fourth, or even the fifth time this has happened in the United States. Since the presidency of Andrew Jackson, financial crisises have been occurring over and over again with near identical causes. And it's always the Bankers who start it all.
This recession was not an accident by any means. In fact, it will happen again in about 25 or 30 years. Anyone who wants a little more info on matters, read Morals and Dogma by Albert Pike and you'll find that since the early 1800s, bankers and politicians have been playing the exact same game with our economy and at our expense. Only this time it was with housing mortgages and student loans as apposed to railroad bonds and agricultural commodities. Wake the Hell up, people. Again, the show was entertaining but it's political bias and inaccuracies expose it's own unworthiness. But go ahead… blame it on a certain generation instead of a few greedy crooks who used the same criminal tactics as previous generations. Utter and blatant stupidity! I'm already working on how I can blame the next financial crisis on my grandchildren.
