Conservative Blogger Faces Criticism Over Protege, by DAVID FOLKENFLIK
The conservative online news entrepreneur Andrew Breitbart is, for the moment, doing little to dispel stereotypes about bloggers. During a recent visit to his home on the west side of Los Angeles, Breitbart, 41, is working from his own basement. Barefoot. At the beck and call of his own kids.
But that basement is light and airy, with a decent view of the city. A young assistant works there with Breitbart to help funnel wire service stories to Breitbart.com, his main news aggregation site. And his reach, thanks to a brawling rhetorical style and a protege who taped the undercover ACORN videos last year, is only expanding.
Over the past year, Breitbart has hired editors to run a new network of conservative blogs called BigGovernment.com, BigHollywood.com and BigJournalism.com. No matter the focus, the media are a prime target throughout.
“They want to control the narrative,” Breitbart says. “I’m saying, ‘No more!’ The new media has freed it up. I’m sorry, mainstream media. It’s over. Your ability to control the narrative is over.”
New Fodder
He can talk that way for hours — and finds fresh grist all over. The media have devoted intense coverage to the late-January arrest of James O’Keefe, the 25-year-old videographer and conservative provocateur. He was charged with trying to get into Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu’s federal office in New Orleans under false pretenses to commit a felony. And O’Keefe is also under contract to write for BigGovernment.com.

The next to last paragraph on NPR is priceless.
"It is primarily, I believe, aimed at trying to score ideological points," (Clark Hoyt, the public editor of The New York Times) says. "It is not about the broader mission that I think organizations, like the Times, set for themselves — which is, I think, broadly informing the public."
If the Times was indeed 'broadly informing the public ' instead of trying to score ideological points for progressivism , they might have growing circulation and profits, instead of being on the edge of collapse and hoping for government financial support like NPR.
"…James O'Keefe….was charged with trying to get into Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's federal office in New Orleans under false pretenses to commit a felony. And O'Keefe is also under contract to write for BigGovernment.com…..O'Keefe's now infamous undercover ACORN videos…appeared to show workers for the community activist group aiding a couple who sought to create a ring of underage prostitutes…reporters at other outlets have repeatedly questioned O'Keefe's tactics: the deception; the editing choices in the ACORN videos..
My God, Folkenflik's bias is so blatant that a two-by-four between the eyes would have been more subtle. The only thing worse is his stupidity in believing that if HE snickers at the accusation of his bias, than we will also. Jerk. (And the idiot wonders why he's laughing alone these days.)
The point that Mr Hoyt made is very accurate. Newspapers in general are having financial problems because of technological changes. THey are being put under by the internet, same as the music industry , and soon to be publishing industry. It has nothing to do with their content , whether it be liberal or conservative. How many paid subscribers does Breitbart have again? And how much is he paying his writers? And how many reporters does he have stationed in Pakistan , Oslo , or the Congo? I guess you are happy to have your climate change news written by oil company lobbyists and your political scoops brought to you by republican activists, and you think that is "objective" journalism.
I hear trees talking. Hehe.
The narrative does not belong to the moneyed mobsters any more. Long live Andrew, and may we find ways to make this pay his and his contributors' expenses.
Palmtree, the first part of your post is true, the second part is irrelevant, and the third part is uhh, actually, I dozed off reading the third part.
And YOU are 'happy' to get your climate change news written by corrupt scientists who lie about glaciers melting in 5 years in Tibet, refuse to publish any paper that doesn't support their ideology, destroy evidence that proves them wrong and then – when exposed as liars by their own emails – they lie, lie and lie – and then lie some more?
And you are also 'happy' to have your 'political scoops' brought to you by a media that on one hand refuses to print a sentence about a Presidential candidate knocking up his mistress and having his aide claim paternity (because the candidate is Democrat) while at the same time screaming to the bloody heavens about a Senator caught tapping his foot in a men's bathroom (because the Senator is a Republican)?
That doesn't make a thinking person happy. It makes them sick! And then it makes them mad. And then it makes them leave. So don't blame loss of readership on the internet or 'technological changes'. Neither of those are driving away readers. It's the blatant lies of the media that is doing that.
NPR = Not Particularly Relevant
My favorite part is when the author talks about "liberal critics at such outfits as… " and he does not include NPR itself. Priceless "non-partisan" journalism.
If you can't read a paragraph without dozing off, you might want to see a doctor or lay off the Xanax. Just a thought.
good luck, it cost a fortune to keep the Washington Times and NY post going all these years. But some rich conservative will cough up the dough, after all his corporate interests will be served by the writings on here against regulation, unions and so forth. Just pull back on the racism a little, big companies get leery of that.
NPR of note is funded by SORA** blood money and the NEA………………
"crickets"………….."crickets"……………………"crickets."
At least republican activists admit who they are instead of pretendiing impartiality while forging presidential conadidates service records.
Does anyone remember when two liberal activists illegally tapped the wireless signal of Newt Gingritch's Cell Phone while he was Speaker of the House 2nd in line to the Presidency. The individuals were this couple that lived here in Jacksonville Florida that had ties to Corrine Brown's congressional campaign in then Forlorida's 4th district. They were not arrested even though the committed the crime O'Keefe is accused of but innocent in my opinion. The media not only gave them a pass but aired the illegal tape on the air.
How do you spell hypocrisy – P R O G R E S S I V ES -
or Maybe Not
Newspapers are generally struggling,
left slanted newspapers are especially struggling.
The Wall Street Journal is doing well in circulation and profit .
Content counts in newspapers as it does in cable news,
the channel most people trust is the one most people watch, and the most profitable.
Success does not prove the veracity of the reporting,
but true and fair news reporting will win
readers, viewers, listeners, and clicks in any format.

All Your Media are Belong to Big.
Potsie's condition was probably just a case of leftist trope-induced nacrolepsy.
Wow. It's starting to sound like you actually believe some of this stuff.
The objective media will likely adapt to the changing news delivery environment. The leftist press will likely fiddle while Rome burns. After all, it's what they do best.
The MSM have no chance to survive make your time.
Tree,
I'm not hooked into any particular 'side' although I do generally enjoy this site. For me, real racism would be a deal breaker.
Can you site some specific examples or post a few links? Thanks.
racism….do you mean affirmative action? conservatives believe in equal opportunity…reward for effort, not the color of your skin…victims are passe'…also, the democrat (left) is on very bad footing concerning segregation etc….read your history…..
What a great comment, Carolyn. Short, bittersweet and right on target. Wish I had wrote it …
NPR is biased towards the political left. My problem has always been that they have received some taxpayer support.
Andrew's "brawling rhetorical style" ???? The (poor, poor) liberal liberal cannot put even three words to print without bias.
I'm always amazed how these leftist news agencies so adroitly accuse conservatives of their own crimes.
You just saved me the trouble of typing all that myself.
National Propaganda Radio
Well that didn't take long. Communist.
See how your life and mood didn't change a bit? "Racist" is just as useless. Folks that are racist don't care, and folks that aren't now assume you're just a moron for pulling a godwin in a political thread.*
For every cross-burner I can show you an idiot trying to decide what we're going to call "those people" this year. Both are racists. Mind your own yard, libby.
*Godwin's law: as an internet discussion continues, the odds of someone being compared to Hitler or the Nazis approaches one. <– I respectfully submit that "racist" is the new "nazi."
. . . and it would not be worth seeing the Fairness Doctrine implemented just to see NPR have to give equal access to conservative viewpoints.
Palmtree is also happy for the MSM to squelch any information during the presidential race that exposes B. Hussein O. Jr.'s overt communism.
"And his reach, thanks to a brawling rhetorical style and a protege who taped the undercover ACORN videos last year, is only expanding."
As if the reason that Big Hollywood is succesful has nothing to do with broader, underlying corruption within Hollywood, like the fact that writers like David Folkenflik mostly refuse to inform the public of the truth as he demonstrates with the above statement..
Have you noticed the new spin when reporting acts perpetrated by conservatives or liberals? The word alleged is only used when describing a liberal who may have committed a crime, but a conservative didn't allegedly do anything, they are just guilty until proven innocent.
Dear Liberals,
James O' Keefe is the right wing's answer to Michael Moore. Sucks doesn't it?
Defund NPR. That should be a core promise of any Republican who wants to be elected. Our tax dollars are paying for this crap.
That is so funny. You're whining about the lack of conservative viewpoint on NPR in a thread borne of an article sharing a conservative viewpoint on NPR. Classic.
No, it really isn't. Your problem is you think a liberal viewpoint is anything not slanted toward conservative viewpoint. Reality is your worst enemy.
Does that mean its time for Michael Moore to commit a felony, so he can keep with your version of himself? What sucks is, O'Keefe in prison.
No, haven't noticed. That would be a good talking point for Hannity though.
Growing circulation and profits… you mean like the Washington Times?
ALL newspapers are having trouble, the bigger the paper the bigger the trouble.
examples please
[...] [...]
"He was charged with trying to get into Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu’s federal office in New Orleans under false pretenses to commit a felony."
Uh, which felony was that? Always speaking in generalizations and the abstract, never in specifics…those silly liberals.
my racist comment is mostly about the comments sections on here and big government. I've read many many comments about lazy blacks on welfare, blacks as pimps, blacks should go back to Africa,pseudo-ebonics talk , Obama doing a "chitlin walk " to the podium ,blah blah blah. Usually right next to those comments is one saying "we are not racist! liberals and blacks are racist! ". Actually , you rarely see any comments like those on liberal sites, different sense of humor you know?
Oh no, not the LTIN! It is curable , though it requires a complete right wing media echo chamber withdrawl.
Yes , I would rather get news from scientists than lobbyists. To imply that all scientists involved in climate change research are liars is the kind of insane exaggeration that you find on sites like this and world net daily. It seems to me that John Edwards was reported on and is out of politics now. What ever happened to that "scoop" Drudge had about Kerrys mistress? You know that one that was a made up right wing smear? You know that would have headlined all the Breitbart sites too.
As far as blaming loss of readership on the internet, that's just a plain fact that has nothing to do with politics. THe fact is you are commenting on a news site that you read for free, you are not writing a letter to the paper which you purchased for 50 cents.
Right , a communist that hires a bunch of wall street insiders to run his financial policy.
What you say?
Take off every news anchor.
Examples of how its not lefty slanted? I hope you realize your demand proves my point that, unless it has conservative slant it is to be considered liberal slanted. Which is ridiculous, but obviously true (to you).
But you get credit for asking. Most conservatives would just take the right's propaganda as evidence of truth and not ask another question about it. Here are a couple examples:

NPR : Cindy Sheehan and Families of the Fallen

While I recognize you likely don't accept I can be an objective observationist, I listen to NPR everyday on the way to work. The vast majority of their content is straight news reporting, some of the best there is. I have cringed a few times at an expression of liberal bias on there, but it has been no more than the presence of conservatives or stories that slant a bit in support of the conservative perspective. But the vast majority of programming is not slanted either way.
"nothing to do with their content"
i guess i'm the only person in the country who has ever dropped their subscription over a paper's liberal bias. i would've thought there were more folks like me, but if you say it has 'nothing to do with their content', well then that settles that. thanks for setting me straight, but now i feel so alone… (sarc/off)
I've stopped readers papers for their content too. All I'm saying is most people read their news for free online now, especially younger people. Newspapers all over are going under, if it was about content it wouldn't happen all at the same time. It's the same thing that put all the record stores out of business., IMHO.
Wow! Did anyone time how long it took to claim a conservative as "racist"? How cliche. I guess when your point is lost, all you can do is name call.
So far the main charges against O'Keefe is the crime of dressing like one of the Village People and acting like a democrat (lying) Hell, by Obama administration standards he should have a cabinet post.
When was he convicted? Oh thats right, he has not been…. Projecting a bit are we?
Do you even know what the word "projecting" means? Because I don't think you do.
I was prognosticating. He was caught red-handed afterall. He hasn't been convicted yet. Now it comes down to whether he or his boyfriends plead down or sell each other out. He is doing well in the court of conservative public opinion. I'm a bit surprised his parents let him leave the house to do the interview with Hannity.
I certainly do know what projecting means. I was using the word to show your projected feelings about Mr. O'Keefe and wishing him the worst instead of letting the court system takes its course. Neither you or I have all the information but you seem to have him convicted and serving time already.
Liberals have to operate on taxpayer welfare, Jed. If they had a clue how to earn an honest living they'd be conservatives.
I recognize you think any consevative thinks anybody but Rush Limbaugh is biased towards the left and you have your catchy little "slave to the truth" statement, but having a "conversations with conservatives" section has nothing at all to do with bias. It has everything to do with people who are passing themselves off as objective when they are not. Poor examples, so sorry, but I give you credit for trying.
"… I think, broadly informing the public."
More like badly informing the public, Clark.
and now a dose of sanity from an unexpected source…
"I have a really interesting political point of view, and it's not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can't go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can't. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics ever since."
– Robert Downey, Jr.
Ok So your first link is to four stories labelled by NPR as Special Series "Conversations with Conservatives" which link to four stories about Conservatives. The first one on the list is a treatise on why democrats are having trouble winning back the evangelical Christian vote. Yea as a conservative that rates about 48,927th on stories I care about and even then the point of the story is to eliminate conservative influence isn't it.. Your next link is someone's blog entry by a liberal complaining that their conservative friends think NPR is biased. WTF! I like how on NPR a Conversation with a Conservative must be labelled "Special". That is rich!
Here's a clue how that plays to a conservative audience. Read Plato's Republic Chapter One and note what Thrasymachus says of how Socrates argues.
"We were riding along and listening to NPR. I felt my facial muscles tightening, and the words beginning to form in my mind: "Shut the fuck up "?" my wife prompted. And her terse, elegant summation, as always, awakened me to a deeper truth: I had been listening to NPR and reading various organs of national opinion for years, wonder and rage contending for pride of place. Further: I found I had been—rather charmingly, I thought—referring to myself for years as "a brain-dead liberal," and to NPR as "National Palestinian Radio."

I feel your pain , I'm the same way with Rush Limbaugh.
Ok so the left has the most successful documentary film maker ever, and the right has James O'Keefe? You know, I'm ok with that, and I don't even like Michael Moore especially.
What have you done for me lately? Or do you still live in 1960?
Small world. I like listening to Rush Limbaugh too!
My preferred treatment is an MP3 player packed with classic rock, and a decent set of headphones.
I can stare at Olbermann for hours without batting an eyelash, thanks to Led Zeppelin. It doesn't work for Maddow though. Even though I can't hear her, I still can't bear to look.
"has nothing at all to do with bias" – Exactly right, that was my point. NPR is not biased and I don't consider presentation of a conservative viewpoint as representing bias either. If one viewpoint is all that is offered, that is bias. Particularly, as is the case with right wing talk radio and most pundits on Fox News, it goes beyond bias into grounds of propaganda.
I surmise conservatives don't like NPR because it doesn't present a conservative pov, that is, its not biased how you like it. It also isn't biased from a liberal pov, which is a reason I listen. In addition to the fact they do the best reporting of any media outlet and cover stories from an angle not seen in any other media. Its really top notch comparably. I don't watch MSNBC much because it is so biased. I watch Fox News more than any other cable news network.
Lets not forget comments like "light skinned" and not having a "negro dialect." Whoops.
RedWhiteAndJew — Great Screen Name! LOL!!
It matters not, how many paid subscribers the times, et al has, how many reporters they have, it matters whether or not their reporting is biased or not. You, palmtree, may believe what you have written re: content, but the question arises, can this palmtree actually think? It doesn't seem so.
