Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

Happy birthday, Mr. Selleck!
Blessings to you and your family!
in the battle of iconic facial hair the battle for ultimate superiority will always come down to Tom Selleck and Chuck Norris.
happy birthday to bot you and your mustache
Happy To Share My Birthday with you!!! I miss Magnum P.I.!! Will you do a movie based on the theme ? Happy Birthday Tom!!!!
I might just need to pick up that film he did with Gene Simmons… something like "Runaway". Still haven't seen Quiggley.
Tom Selleck is the epitome of class.
Dare I say — this generation's version of "Cary Grant" cool
A class act
One of the most underrated actors of this generation.
Quigley Down Under is GREAT!!!
Any movie with Alan Rickman as the bad guy is sure to be entertaining!!
bons a ripper mate!
He lights up the screen. I'll never forget when my daughter pointed out his Marlboro ad and we said we'd never seen a guy so handsome! Then when Magnum P.I. came on, we were glued to the screen. Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck!
A very nice dependable actor over the years. Certainly, Magnum P.I. was iconic.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO A HANDSOME , ARTICULATE, GREAT ACTOR AND A REPUBLICAN. THERE ARE SO FEW OF YOU IN HOLLYWOOD.
Happy birthday….Indiana Jones with balls!!!
Happy Birthday Tom. Loved that rifle you used in Quigley Down Under. Thank you for everything.
Magnum PI is the greatest television show ever.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. SELLECK!! Awesome fella and a epitome of what Hollywood actors should be like. Can't get enough of this guy.
Here here!
"Ike, Countdown to D-Day" and the Jesse Stone series. EPIC!!
I've always liked Tom Selleck, but I fell in love with him the second Rosie O'Donnell ambushed him for daring to take advantage of his Constitutional rights.
Happy Birthday to the man!
Happy birthday Mr. Selleck. A rare combination of strength, talent and a ton of humor. A monthly column in American Rifleman is long overdue sir!
Happy birthday to a fine American and defender of our second amendment.
One of my favorite flicks. Last gunfight is classic.
Happy Birthday! His comedic talents are underrated. His role in Three Men and a Baby is one of the most comedically charming performances in a comedy film. And even though the mustache died out long ago he can still rock one.
Daaah … daaaah … Dah! It's Magnum, Thomas Magnum. Cue the red Ferrari, and rustle up Rick, T.C., Higgins, and the lads!
Tom Selleck is a classic example to tenacity as he pursued his quest for stardom after repeated roadblocks. He exemplified the Reagan 80s — big, easy-going, and confident.
And call me crazy, but I loved his films — High Road to China</>, Lassister, and particularly, Quigley Down Under, a much under-rated Aussie western that had the feel of a Joel McCrea or Randolph Scott western from the 1950s.
A fellow conservative, Mr. Selleck worked with the late Barbara Jordan, Democratic congressman from Texas, on the Character Counts Coalition to promote greater civility in public life.

His is a true Horatio Alger story, which was recognized with his Horatio Alger Award in 200:

Happy birthday, Mr. Selleck, and thanks for the memories!
I don't like to brag, but I know a guy who once knew the daughter of a woman who met Tom Selleck.
Runaway was pretty entertaining, and it had Kirstie Alley when she was still pretty hot….
In the early 90s, he narrated a series of AT&T commercials that showcased futuristic technologies, like GPS and video conferencing. I believe the commercials were directed by a young David Fincher and some folks have kindly posted them on YouTube.

To paraphrase one of the YouTube comments: Tom Selleck + technology = awesome!
I know a guy that bought a car once owned by John Voight….
Hank –
Jon Voight the actor or the periodontist?
Please make a Magnum PI movie!
Happy Birthday to a good man.
Second greatest moustache in film! (Sorry mate, Sam Elliot takes top honors)
Happy birthday Tom! And happy trails to you! I hope we meet again at the SASS End of Trail in NM this year! You are tough to beat in competition but I have been practicing and I hope to best your score this year. Bring that 44-40 Pard! Let's do some shootin'!
Ike: Countdown to D-Day.
Mr. Selleck didn't look or sound like Eisenhower, but he channeled Ike's spirit and heart.
And he did it without the stache – now that's an actor!
I don't think any other actor has been able to rock the "mustache, tight shorts, tight jeans" trifecta quite like Tom. The only TV series I've ever bought on DVD is Magnum (so far seasons 1-3)…that speaks volumes for my respect for Mr. Selleck. I'd love to see him and the crew get back together for one last go at Magnum…I'd pay to watch it.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM SELLECK!! We loved you in the beginning of your career — and WE LOVE YOU NOW!! HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!
Forget Joe Magno, to me Tom Selleck will always be Mister Baseball, I love that film! It ranks well with the classic goofball baseball films like Rhubarb. However I think I was most impressed with Tom's portrayal of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in Ike: Countdown to D-Day
Happy Birthday Mister Basobarru!!!
One of the good guys. Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck
Thurs nights were great, first Magnum then Simon and Simon. Thanks for the memories. Just checked and Magnum is on netflix, play instantly. Guess I know what I'll be watching tonight.
They're making a Magnum P.I. movie but he won't be in it. He had this to say on the subject, "I tell you what worries me — because I love 'Magnum' and we have loyal fans — is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it's OK. And I will not do that."
I always enjoy his work. "High Road to China" has long been in my top 10 and I'm a big fan of Selleck's westerns as well.
If you haven't seen the Jesse Stone movies, you're missing some great flicks. My wife and I have just one more to watch, and we eagerly await the next one.
Tom was my 80's crush that has continued to 2010. What I liked about Magnum so much was that it was played with a sense of humor which is difficult to do with such a gorgeous leading man. But Tom pulled it off like the pro he is. Class always wins out.
Hugs and kisses, Tom. You are a real gent.
Happy Birthday, Tom, and many more. This man could teach class and manners to everyone in Hollywood and in Washington. He is proud of his conservative views and not afraid, in a town of looney libs, to speak up for his values. No one quite like him. My husband also can't wait for another Jesse Stone movie….
Selleck is the man. I love his cowboy roles – Monte Walsh and the Shadow Riders come to mind. He rates right up there with Robert Duvall as an authentic looking cowboy.
good call
NO WAY!!
Monte Walsh was awesome. there are few actors born to be in westerns and Tom Selleck is one of them.
Happy birthday Mr. Selleck!
Magnum P.I. was one of the best. In addition to its entertainment value it was just plain comforting to watch. It let you feel that no matter what was happening in the "real world" there were people like Magnum (and the whole cast) that would make things right in the end, and do so with honor.
Gorgeous, gorgeous man. Love the Jesse Stone movies on CBS. Loved him as "Monte Walsh". Love him, period!
My husband just tracked down a copy of "High Road to China." Now I'll have to watch it in honor of Tom's birthday. He's a classy man who just gets better with age.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck.
You had me when I first saw you wearing the Detroit Tigers Old English 'D' cap !
Still enjoy watching 'Magnum PI". You move very easily between drama and comedy, TV and movies. No small feat.
Wishing you a long and happy life and whatever you want from your career.
Happy Birthday! Thanks for your great example!
Selleck made a very fun little sci-fi flick, "Runaway", with Gene Simmons as the disgusting villian.
Happy Birthday to the actor who brings the spirit of the American Cowboy to all of his roles; whether in 19th century period pieces, on the islands of Hawaii, or a small town in Maine!
Mr. Selleck,
Your body of work has entertained my family for decades. Your patriotism and character sets you apart from the usual suspects in entertainment crowd.
You sir, are a star of the Randolph Scott, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, et al. mold.
Happy birthday and many happy returns.
Happy Birthday! What more can I say than has already been said? All I can add is that I appreciate many of the roles you play – strong men doing a man's work and soldiering onward. Hollywood is short on such actors.
As usual Obama targets your future:
NO FUTURE FOR YOU
http://naturalfake.wordpress.com/2010/01/27/no-fu...
Just like a fine wine, Mr. Selleck gets better and better with age. Happy Birthday Thomas!!!
Mr. Selleck, you are one of a handful of actors that can make me not only sit through a western, but thoroughly enjoy it. I love Quigley, High Road to China, Magnum and so much more of your work. Happy birthday and many, many more!
I am a Big Fan of almost anything with Alan Rickman in it. He makes bad guys that are FUN.
His turn as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood was hilarious.
"Why a spoon cousin? Whynot an axe or sword?"
"BECAUSE IT'S DULL YOU TWIT! IT'LL HURT MORE!!"
Yeah Sam Elliot gets the 'stache trophy….
Yup, and it had a very hot Kirstie Alley in it too.
Thomas Sullivan Magnum, they don't make TV heroes like that anymore (well Gibbs comes close). I started watching that awful LAS VEGAS when he joined the cast. A classy stand up guy. What really amazes me is nobody ever mentions that he won an Emmy Award for MAGNUM, PI. And those Jesse Stone movies are good, better than some theatrical releases. Happy Birthday!
Oh, I love, love, love me some Tom.
Happy Birthday.
Happy B-day big guy.. I can't think of any job you've ever done that I didn't like..
okay, I didn't like that cheesy horror movie you did back in the '70s. And I wasn't overwhelmed by the movie with Paulina Porozkova, but it was mostly her fault, and the writers.
Love Sacketts, the Australian rifle movie, and your current turn as Jesse Stone… and I loved your appearance on Rosie because it exposed her… sorry you hadda go through it..
Happy Birthday, Tom Selleck. You're a genuine man in a town full of selfish children who take themselves far to seriously.
Years ago in Hawaii, my wife surprisingly found herself within 20 feet of Tom Selleck. Just the two of them. She was sight-seeing and happened to come upon him just as he was entering his location trailer. She fumbled to get her camera out of her purse, dropped it, couldn't get it turned on, etc. He saw this, smiled, and waited patiently for her to get her act together. When she was ready, he smiled warmly for the photo, said goodbye, and retired to his trailer. What a classy thing to do.
Today's actors could learn a lot from how this man comports himself.
Oh. My. GOD! MAGNUM!!!
Tom Selleck, my favorite actor of all time. Magnum P.I., my favorite show of all time. (The first episode I saw was "Did You See the Sunrise?" and that was all it took.) Happy Birthday! Thanks for all the delight you've given us.
I love me some Magnum PI! Happy B-day Mr Selleck!
Happy Birthday and Good Health and Happiness to you and yours, Mr. Selleck.
I have fond memories of my 92 year old mother and I watching Magnum P.I.
We were enamored of you. Thanks for the memories!
Underrated, but never forgotten. Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck!
Happy birthday, Tom. I can honestly say the dorkiest, happiest memory I have is jumping up and down on my bed during the opening of Magnum PI each and every week. Man, how I loved that show. I miss Rick and T.C. — not so much Higgie Baby. You have been such a classy act your entire career and I can't tell you how deeply I appreciate it. Especially your good work and support with the U.S. military. Drinks on me at the King Kamayamaya Club.
My husband has commandeered the TV in the name of "Quigley" and "Magnum" more times than I can count. Not that I complain much
I have always thought that Mr. Selleck seemed like someone who would be great to have over for supper. I could stare at him while he and my husband discussed weaponry. Yep, sounds good.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck.
Happy Birthday to the man who taught me how to play "Spin the Cat".
http://magnum-mania.com/Audio/Spin_The_Cat.html
Happy Birthday Mr. Selleck. I always loved to hear you laugh….
A VERY Happy Birthday, Mr. Selleck!
The first time I ever saw you was in a bit part in a pretty unmemorable movie called "COMA". HOWEVER – at one point you were shown in a close-up, and I swear that every woman in that theater sighed audibly because you were (are) just breathtakingly goodlooking. Then we all laughed out loud at how dorky we had just been. One of my best movie memories – thanks!
Happy B-day Tom. I agree with other posters…I miss Magnum and also think that it was one of the greatest TV series ever.
A Big Fan
We had a neighbor that resembled Magnum. We would fight to walk the dog especially when he was out sunbathing! Became an even huger fan after the Rosie incident. Tom and a long-rifle! Wow! Talk about sexy! May God bless you with many more birthdays!
and to think he was ALMOST Indiana Jones…
Spielberg spotted the handsome young actor in his breakout role as Lance White in the 'Rockford Files'. He had just inked a deal with CBS to do 'Magnum P.I.'. He did the screen test, and both Spielberg and Lucas wanted the rugged 6'4" actor to do the iconic role and offered it to him.
Being ever the honourable sort, he told them he had already signed a deal. So, history was made in more ways then one- Ford got 'Indy' which put him on the map as a mega star, and Selleck got the best Hawaii P.I. show ever. He does kid about 'kicking himself in the butt' about not taking the role…
But you gotta say both men were pitch perfect in their roles…
interesting stuff- well done…
Magnum PI….the first television series that treated war Vets with dignity and respect rather than crazed psychotics.
Cheers to you Tom.
I heard somewhere, too, that for some reason the filming of Magnum went on hold while the Indiana Jones crew did some shooting in Hawaii. Go figure.
My 9th grade English teacher had a poster of Tom Selleck on her wall. It was laminated to keep the kids from doodling on it. I remember thinking that he was cute for an old guy. I grew to love "Magnum, P.I." in reruns since my husband loved the show. Tom Selleck is the real deal – he carries himself with grace and honor, but isn't above poking fun at himself.
I had the life-size poster!!!!!!
Thursday nights were awesome!!!
Thanks and happy birthday!
[and he one of those guys who age well... (Cary Grant, Mark Harmon, Sean Connery - that's a heckuva line-up)]
"Why a spoon, cousin?" is a much-quoted line in our house. Love it!
Agreed–Did you see the sunrise? or the Ivan episode, as it's known in our house, is one of the most memorable episodes of any TV show.
I saw this film for the first time just a few years ago. Afterwards, my friend and I couldn't stop calling each other, "Raaamsssaaayyyy!!!!!"
It also featured a spiffy all-synth score by Jerry Goldsmith.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaoMG0KDJ0M
(The lip sync is off in the above clip.)
His perfect Lance White character on the Rockford Files as the polar opposite of good ol' Jim Rockford was one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen!
Tom Selleck a Happy Birthday to you, sir. My all time favorite Selleck performance was his portrayal of General Eisenhower in the series about D-Day. Eisenhower needed to be exceedingly diplomatic with DeGaulle, Montgomery ,Churchill etc; and Selleck was convincing. Now that is a program which should be shown again.
Many happy returns of the day! So many good memories of watching Magnum–just introduced our teenagers to it this year. Loved him too as Lance White on the Rockford Files and as Monica's older optometrist boyfriend, Richard, on Friends. The scene with him and Ross in girly bathrobes is hilarious! Scenes like that show what a good sport he is and what a genuine sense of humor he has.
There certainly is a certain amount of cool knowing that if you enter a room, you can pretty much bang any person in there.
Or so I've been told. No one would ever accuse me of having that brand of cool.
One of Hollywood's few leading men I enjoy watching. I particularly like his position on the Second Amendment.
In the immortal words of my mother……."Yummy."
Still yummy after all these years.
I hope he got hazardous pay for that one.
I bought the DVD for $10.00 at a hardware store!!
Tom Selleck is a class act. Happy Birthday!!
Name dropper!
