Sheen Gets a Pass, Tiger Gets Crucified
by Big HollywoodIt may surprise some to realize that Sheen’s alleged behavior won’t even come close to the negative fall-out Woods has already received in the past month. “How can that be?” they’ll exclaim.
It’s got to do with expectations. Sheen is a notorious bad-boy who’s been in lots of trouble before. That means in the eyes of the media–and yes, much of the public–he’s much more comparable to Bobby Brown than Chris Brown. That’s also why if Bobby Brown got in more trouble tomorrow the public would basically shrug, and why we were so shocked when Chris Brown–who, like Woods, had a clean image–hit Rhianna.
Furthermore, I’d be surprised if Hanes drops Sheen as an endorser. It was only about 18 months ago that they hired him to wear their underwear, and his reputation as a bad boy was already well established. In other words, if anyone at Hanes is surprised by this latest trouble that Sheen’s gotten into, THEY should be fired.

Tiger deserves all the scorn and derision he receives. His IMG handlers and various sports writers have 'cleaned up' after him, and given him a 'pass' for some time. His golf mastery excepted…..he's carried on with the squeaky-clean image, and he and his father turned it into gold. Finally, his behavior reached an excess that couldn't be covered up, and he got found out. Good!
I know that the truth about a person's character and ability is eventually revealed in business and in sports. In Tiger Wood's case, he chose to combine the two and threw his career away, for now, with both hands.
Tiger is a cad and a bad husband. But he has never put his hands up against a woman.
Sheen on the other hand has shot, punched, kicked and menaced with knives the various women stupid enough to go with him. And Hollywood seems to have no problem.
Recall similarly Jackson Browne drove his wife to suicide and treated Darryl Hannah like a punching bag, yet because he supports the correct leftist causes he still gets work.
Charlie Sheen is a mental patient. The reason he's so entertaining on 2 1/2 Men is because his character is an asshole. Sheen was born to play it….
I knew that Jackson Browne's wife committed suicide, but you mentioned that Brownes had driven her to it. I didn't know he'd done anything to push her toward that exit. Would you elaborate a bit more on theat story for me if you wouldn't mind talking the time..? Was he a Beater? A Cheater? Both? He seems to me like he be a terrible browbeater. Why do you or anyone else care about some other person's decisions re their personal life? How is it your place to judge him or his actions? Did you pile on Ted Kennedy or Bill Clinton with this much fervor? Do you spend your days clucking at the behavior of others? Perhaps you should do an honest bio for the entire world to see…make sure it contains ALL of your transgressions, including your holier-than thou admonishments of people who have the ill fate to be within your grasp. Perhaps you should spend this much energy at a year-long self-examination…bet you might get a few more phone calls at Christmas.

I can't recall the number of arguments I've had with my sister over Browne.
I say the only reason permissible to use violence against a woman is self defense, and it should be limited to defense, only. Period.
But then she starts getting that dreamy look in her eyes and says but it's Jackson Browne, maybe she deserved it.
I say no, Browne deserves a kick in the nuts, and nothing more.
Sheen is not acting on 2 1/2 men.
I've recently come to the conclusion that the only defining factors in which some women determine what constitutes sexual harassment is:
1) how handsome the guy is;
2) how rich he is.
Rich and good-looking: not sexual-harassment
Rich and ugly: sexual harassment
Poor and ugly: sexual harassment
Sheen may dodge the Hollywood bullet but he is most likely going to do time…
In Colorado they do not need the testimony of the wife to proceed in abuse cases. There is plenty of evidence against him, and even a plea bargain will still put him in the pokey- say six months or so- and THAT is the best single thing that could happen to the irresponsible meathead.
Maybe like Robert Downey or Dennis Hopper he wil emerge a conservative. Who knows…
I haven't heard what he's like on the set. I guess as long as he shows up for work more or less sober and remembers his lines, people will keep hiring him.
I'm going to predict: several-year sentence reduced to time served, mandatory drug/alcohol/anger management counseling, then he's home free.
I'll ask this again: Does Hollywood screw people up or does it just attract screwed-up people? And percentage-wise, are there more screwed-up people in Hollywood than in the population as a whole?

That's probably right. Sheen's a B-list actor who happens to have a popular TV show at the moment, but everyone knows his reputation. Tiger is the Greatest Golfer in the World and he's always cultivated a wholesome image. No comparison, really.
Tiger Woods isn't even in the same ball park as Sheen and I have to wonder about the sanity of anyone who suggest that they are. Charlie is a repeat drug offender, an abuser, hell he even shot a woman "accidently".. all Tiger did was screw a few whores.
Tiger is a Saint compared to this jackass.

It's not just about expectations but about tearing down anything that's noble and good and making sure that there is no such thing as a real hero. They enjoy watching good people fail and fall and will happily help them do so.

If you project an image then you have to protect an image. We already knew that Charlie Sheen was a scoundral. Unlike Tiger Woods, Charlie Sheen has never has tried to portray himself as a Saint. Therefore there is less of a fallout as the result of his hair raising domestic squabbles. Most of us also are aware that Sheen is an Alcoholic who has evidently returned to drinking AMA. One should not be surpirzed that his home life has become unmanagable. I hope both he and Tiger woods get professional help for their respective problems.
The Hollywood and MSM narrative thrives on scandal. Having no discernable principles themselves, they are drawn to stories which expose someone like Tiger Woods, who presented at least the appearance of decorum.
Hypocrisy, as the saying goes, is the tribute which vice pays to virtue. It is in evidence only where there is a standard to which personal behavior is held up.
In Hollywood, there IS no standard anymore. The glee with which the media went after Tiger is just not there for Sheen; probably half of the MSM suits and talking heads slap their own live-ins around, and just shrug at the revelation.
If a snake bites do you get outrage? No, because that is what snakes do.

It was what, two yrs ago, when Charlie was having those problems with Denise? The show still went on. I think the response to Charlie is "here we go again." And in a decrepit town like Hollywood, they circle the wagons around their own. It reminds me of "Skills" on One Tree Hill who was convicted of Social Security fraud, yet is filming on the show until it's time to serve his sentence. Even then, they are only writing him as moving out of state for a year.
On the flipside, I'm not a golf watcher, but always commended Tiger on his success. Did he really build an image of being spotless or was he just super private? I remember when they got married and the photoshoot with the kids, but other than that, what? He just always struck me as super private. He was never on a pedestal for me. But I do agree that the Drivebys like to bring people down.

I don't read celebrity and rock star biographies if that's what you're getting at. Jackson Browne's first wife commited suicide. I remember that. He's spoken about it.

The issue is who the guys appeal to.
Tiger Woods was a male-oriented star. A guy who appealed mostly to male golf fans, who supposedly epitomized the male-celebrated values of hard work, self-control, discipline, and modesty. Now with allegations of HGH/Steroids, along with his cheating, including "Average Janes" like waitresses and so on at the local IHOP, Tiger is just another spoiled, arrogant, churlish pro Athlete who is a guy most regular Joes don't like. It is no accident that Peyton Manning cultivates an aw-shucks routine, along with Brett Favre, because guys don't like arrogance.
Charlie Sheen, on the other hand, appeals to women. Specifically the female dominated (80% by some counts) sit-com audience. His bad-boy appeal, including violence and so on should come as no shock to those seeing how Chris Brown became MORE popular among women not less, after the Rihanna beat-down. Women love bad boys, the badder they are, the more they love him. Tiger Woods is more popular now with women that's he been shown in his caddish ways than ever before. Same with John Edwards. If nothing else, the female audience loves a soap opera — look at any magazine at your Supermarket Checkout counter.
Men tend to be forgiving up to a point, but not on arrogance, or issues of jealousy (pro athletes/celebrities flaunting their special, privileged, status). George Clooney had a carefully cultivated "you can play pickup-basketball with him" image that he threw away in the mid-2000's, and has not been the same since popularity wise though women love him more than ever. Most guys are lucky to have one special gal in their lives, and get jealous when a guy like Tiger racks up 15 and counting. Most guys wrote off Charlie Sheen decades ago as a "woman's man" i.e. bad-boy loser, who lacks the ability to get along with other guys. Men don't forgive that sin, though others they do.

Sadly, it's true. Bad boys and bad girls in showbiz and sports will always get more leeway becasue we shouldn't expect them to act any other way. That's because Hollywood power players are almost all just as loony as Charlie is. As long as Charlie doesn't cross one of them, they'll give him a pass.
The difference between Woods and Sheen is simple. Sheen has been a wife beating jerk for years. He is old news. Tiger on the other hand has been shielded by the media and his sponsors (really one in the same) so when the truth finally did come out his house of card fell down with a louder noise.

you are spewing crap. Jackson Browne is a humanitarian. Take a look around at all the benefits he does every year, tirelessly, around the world to help make others' lives better.
Not to mention the HUMILIATION (whether you like her, or not) he dumped on his wife (Elin) and their children. No amount of money can take away what he did, and certainly what he SAID (disparaging comments) about her to his 'mistresses'. Whatever amount she's awarded lets her live very comfortably, and insures a better than average education for the kids.
I've never disputed Tiger's mastery of golf. And , yes, he won tournaments,here and abroad, fair and square, in front of viewers on a world stage, showing superior skills and discipline. That said, in his case..like many politicians and celebrities with inflated egos and a sense of entitlement , the bad behavior reached critical mass, the truth came out ,despite the best cover-up efforts of those who had a lot to gain from TW's success. It's just nice to see that ultimately, NO ONE is immune from the truth being revealed. Packaging and marketing don't always win the day .

I think the main thrust of the article is correct.
It's not so much what you do that counts, but how much what you do contradicts your public image.
Charlie Sheen = Hollywood bad boy. Smacks around wife, cheats on wife, boozes, does drugs . . . yawn.
Tiger Woods = Clean cut nice guy. Cheats on wife . . . shriek!
Hopefully Tiger Woods will make good on his wrong doing, and maybe Sheen will straighten himself out.
Cynical thought: It's not so much what you do that counts, but how what you get caught doing that counts.
