Brittany Murphy Dead at 32
by Big HollywoodActress Brittany Murphy, known for her roles in films such as “Clueless” and “8 Mile,” died after suffering a cardiac arrest at her home, police and hospital officials said. She was 32.
Murphy’s mother discovered the star slumped unconscious in a shower at her home in Los Angeles before her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, called emergency services, entertainment website TMZ.com reported.

The actress was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills where she was confirmed dead at 10:04 am (1804 GMT), spokeswoman Sally Stewart said. No other information was released by the hospital.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were at Murphy’s home asking preliminary questions, police confirmed. Investigators later said foul play was not suspected in the death. …
News of Murphy’s death comes after a medical drama involving her husband Monjack last month, when an ambulance was called to a Los Angeles airport arrival gate as the couple returned from Puerto Rico.
On that occasion, it was the actress’s husband who was rushed to hospital. Reports said the couple had been returning to Los Angeles after Murphy was thrown off the set of a movie and fired for difficult behavior.

Tragic, and so close to Christmas.
May God have mercy on her soul and give comfort to her survivors.
Only in Hollyweird could the death of a 32 year old women who died of a cardiac arrest be called natural causes. There's a lot more to this story . Want to guess what killed her….Regardless my heart goes out to her and her family.
was she anorexic?
Another report said she had the flu days ago. If she was as sickly thin as has been suggested elsewhere a battle with the flu would be tough.
I think you're right about the age thing, I feel the exact same way, even though I was no superfan of hers. You just assume these people will be around as long as you are.
Last year it was all the rage for magazines to feature "too-skinny" actresses on their covers. Then, to ask why in the world they do such things. Well, I guess being featured on the cover of a magazine could be an incentive … duh.
Hollywood expects skinny of its women. Men, too, if we're to be honest. I agree with the general perception that anorexia probably caused this. It's so sad.
She was the voice of Luanne on "King of the Hill", one of the only shows I've ever been committed to.
RIP.
I would still not be surprised to see prescription medicines in the mix somehow when all is said and done.
Want to guess what killed her
Coke. Just a guess…..
I don't know if this is true or not… but I have been seeing news reports that she was ill of flu like symptoms for the last couple of days before…. so I guess we will just have to see…. Not that I'm a big Brittany Murphy fan (though I did really enjoy Uptown Girls and Clueless (I was a teen at the time… ;D )… but I'm going to take the glass half full approach…
Yeah… but it still jars you… especially when you are still in your young and invincible age of life…
I will miss her. Oddly enough, while most of Hollywood thinks of her as this sexy young actress, to me she will always be the voice of Luann Platter on King of the Hill. (Her film roles are so scattershot. It must have been tough losing a steady gig like KOTH.)
according to wire services reports yesterday 2/3 of the cocaine imported has animal antibiotics in it…
which, according to the AP story in yesterday's Chicago Sun Times attacks the immune system and is causing adverse side effects in 10% of the users.
Including death…
When I heard about this, the name Len Bias jumped to my mind.
Based on recent pictures, I'm almost certain she was, though I'm a little puzzled as to how you can describe that as "natural causes." Regardless, even though I never paid much attention to her, it's still sad to hear about her death at such a young age. RIP.
Not all of us guys like our women to have the shape of a 10 year old boy(raises hand), but a lot do.
this guy is a pig who keeps making vile remarks on many threads. why is he still here?
The husband apparently has said he does not want an autopsy. This death was not caused by natural causes; more than likely it was drug related.
May she rest in peace.
"God has a plan for me and it involves puppets."
Luanne was one of the most distinctive vocal performances in American animation. As her character grew the depth of her ability to channel so many honest qualities from her character was amazing.
RIP Brittany you will be missed.
I think the only thing I ever saw her in was "Sin City", but anyone passing away at that age is a tragedy.
God bless her and her survivors.
Amen.
It's been known to happen Brother.
Looked like it. They all have weight issue's in La-La Land.
I, too, am saddened by her death–even though I haven't a clue who she was and have never seen ANY of her movies or acting appearances. Neither do I watch Leno or Letterman, so I never saw her there either. Still, for someone that young to pass from "cardiac arrest" is suspicious, at best. I'm inclined to believe there's something more to this than "natural causes," too.
Normally when someone at age 32 dies with no known preconditions and no obvious cause, the coroner doesn't care what the spouse thinks; they order an autopsy to find out why someone drops dead for no apparent reason, even if there's no foul play suspected at this time.
You can a lot from a dummy when it comes to drug abuse…
Would it make you feel better if she overdosed on halloween?
I know. The fact that the husband didn't want an autopsy is very telling imao.
It's always hard to lose a loved one right before Christmas. When I was in jr. high, a boy I'd grown up with was killed in a car accident, and all we could think of were the stories about how his family had to return all the gifts they'd bought for him. Can you even imagine how difficult that must be? Not only losing a loved one, but then having to turn around and return their Christmas presents because they wouldn't be needing them? Show a little compassion for her family, please.
What a complete douchebag thing to say. Was it supposed to clever??
This makes me sad, though I wasn't really much of a fan. I liked her music, and I still think Clueless is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, but that's about as far as it went. I'm sorry for her family and friends, though. They'll be in my prayers.
Except how to put a complete sentence together apparently…..
I was out at the National Training Center (Ft. Irwin, CA) and she came out with Wayne Newton and some other showbiz types and entertained the troops that were training for an upcoming rotation to Iraq. I thought that she was great to come out there to the middle of nowhere and do that, and for that she earned my respect and admiration. My condolences to her family – she will be missed.
Have you seen pics of her husband? He is a Normal (balding, even!).
Amazing mate for a Hollywood actress.
It was reported that she had "flu-like symptoms" days before yesterday.
I wonder if she had H1N1 and didn't even realize it…
Poor girl. I cannot even imagine her family's grief. Rest in peace, sweetie. You will be missed.
She looked very anorexic in her later roles.
Tinsel Town claims another starlet.
Thin thin thin is is.
Her heart prolly just gave out.
Educate us about drug abuse, then.
this show's the tragedy of hollywood today unfortunately the girl's are supposed to be skinney, date handsome idiot's and look happy. This sudden tragic death makes me question a lot of the trash photo's of people think are really happpy but aren't actully. Even newcomers are falling into this tragic mess it's a deadly cycle
That used to be true, but I know a 55 y.o. man with no known problems who dropped dead playing basketball and no autopsy was done due to budget cuts.
Very plausible.
I don't know why… but her death has stunned me almost more so than Natasha Richerdson's and/or Billy Mays…. perhaps it's because she is so close to my age (she is just a few years older than I am)…. I don't know… it's just shocking to me…
Clueless; Girl, Interrupted; 8 Mile; Freeway; King of the Hill. Great stuff, all made better by her presence. She was a talent.
For women in the entertainment business especially, Hollywood is a toxic place for those who are insecure and without a solid support group to help them. Whatever the cause, I'm sorry about Ms. Murphy's death.
This has to be a generational thing. I was looking on imdb to see what movies she was in and until I hit Clueless I was drawing a blank. She was Tai!
k8blujay, I am then about 20 years older than you – no, closer to 30 I'll bet – I have come to realize that death really knows no age – we are really living day to day, some (including me) would say "by the grace of God".
A childhood friend of mine died over 30 years ago from a drug overdose, another friend killed in Nam, and so on.
Brittany Murphy was one of the only film actresses I found interesting. I loved her in "Don't Say a Word" and "Sin City."
And "King of the Hill" is one of my favorite shows of all time.
I always liked her a lot and would see her movies, even the marginal ones. I really thought she was adorable and am very saddened by her passing. When she was interviewed on Leno or Letterman, she always seemed very sweet.
Very sad. She was a lovely young woman and a good actress.
Sad RIP
It probably doesn't help your shock that 32 year-olds are not supposed to die of cardiac arrest. When I heard the news today, the first thing that popped into my head was "cocaine". Then, I found it kind of sad that despite having no personal knowledge of illegal narcotics, my mind could so quickly and assuredly "know" what had happened.
Sad anytime; especially sad at Christmas.
Don't know anything about Brittany other than what I have read since her death. However, everyone seemed to agree that she had lost a great deal of weight. Don't know why. Won't speculate. Will, however, ask if you recall the hugely talented singer, Karen Carpenter, of "The Carpenters" fame. She had anorexia, and died of a heart complication of that. Every Christmas, Karen and Richard Carpenter make my season more beautiful with their lovely music. So sad for all concerned. How I wish that Karen had just gained weight – I don't care how much – but could still be around singing. They will both be misssed.

If she had recently lost as much weight as reported, then she was most likely in a state of malnutrition. When in that state, the body uses its own muscles and organs for protein, basically. That really weakens the heart. Then, if you add a complication such as the flu, that stresses the body even more.
Plus the recent Saturday Night Live parody of her had to cause her distress. I think it is disgraceful and cowardly that that "skit" has been removed from access. If they are going to sink so low as to capitalize upon others' problems, then they should suffer any consequences that come their way! They are just covering their posteriors, so they don't come off looking as callously self-serving as they really are.

I went through the same thing when my wife passed on in September. Like Brittany, she was in her early thirties and her death came completely out of left field, despite the myriad of health problems she had suffered. The hospital was very adamant about doing an autopsy to verify not only what killed her but whether or not it was a genetic condition that could possibly be a health risk for my son.
I also sympathize with her husband's reluctance however. It may just be that he is afraid of what he could find out. Having later learned that my own wife died as a result of a zoloft overdose, I sometimes wish that I could have remained ignorant of it all.
