Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Iron Man — a billionaire businessman who saves the world and "privatizes world peace"! Now that is a hero to look up to! Love him!
Looks like Mickey Rourke discovered steroids.
Let us know when the new Red Dawn comes out will ya?

Damn
Man, war machine looks so awesome! Not Don Cheadle, War Machine. Don Cheadle looks like a pansy, but War Machine looks awesome. Looks like there were a lot of War Machines chasing Iron Man lead by one War Machine, probably Rhodey. I hope it's as good as the first one.
Anybody else think Jon Favreau is a closet Republican? Cause I am LOVING this.
Am I seriously the only person who hated Iron Man? The movie was entirely predictable, full of plot holes, had corny jokes (he fell over!) and committed the most tiresome and constant sin of superhero movies: ending with a battle between two masked extras whom we're supposed to believe are major actors.
When talking about Iron Man, he said that he wanted to make a movie that was mostly fair to both points of view in war. In summary, he said that some complained that he was too pro-America and too pro-war while others complained that he showed Tony talking about not manufacturing anymore weapons and the bad guy being a corporate guy. He said that showed neither side could complain, though I definitely think it leans more right.
Plus, he's friends with Vince Vaughn who definitely seems to lean to the right, even if he's not an out and out conservative or libertarian or Republican. Probably both of them are more of a Joe Lieberman Republican, hawkish but socially liberal?
I think most comic book movies can be described the same way, though not The Dark Knight, but that's a comparison to a masterpiece. But Iron Man is my favorite super hero so seeing him on screen and not missing his American braggadocio, his support and concern of the military, and his Reagan-esque argument on peace through strength made me like it probably more than anything else. It's nice to see my kind of hero every now and then.
True, whiplash isn't the greatest villain. It looks like Iron Man would whoop him in like 2 seconds.
I am loving this trailer.
I don't think anyone can do "Dark Knight." That film was a masterclass.
But Iron Man is enjoyable and exciting, and pro-America. Finally a superhero that kicks Taliban butt, as done in the first film.
Can't wait to see this.

Chris Nolan, the director of "The Dark Knight" is my hero. But I'll take "Iron Man" in a pinch.
The First Iron Man movie was one of the best and most adult of all the super hero movies. Downey Jr. is almost always excellent and you have to love Mickey Rourke, who honesty about his politics may well have cost him an Oscar. Those two alone make this worth seeing. The only negative is the first movie was the stinky Lady Gyneth of Paltrow (the late earl of liberal asoldom.)
our sentiments exactly- almost…
Didn't hate 'Iron Man'; it just wasn't that good. Did it piss us off? No, it did not do that, thankfully.
But was it 'good'? Or just because it didn't suck, and it wasn't off the charts left wing loonery we wanted to like it? Downey was ok, he usually is. Bridges really seemed to like playing the evil white corporate baddy for reasons other than the script, and it's hard to think of anyone more overrated than world famous nitwit
Gwyneth Paltrow. Favreau has shown he can direct ('Elf' is HIS classic) but this was a paint by numbers
affair.
Will we see it? Yeah, sure. Rent the BluRay…
I am sure we will go see this when this movie comes out…. my husband LOVED the first one (mostly because of the cars and the brass rat on at least one actors finger… it's the ring of his alma mater)
You know, maybe that's why Whiplash is in the trailer such a small amount of time, Iron Man kills him easily. Or War Machine kills him easily and then that gets him out of the way for War Machine to battle Iron Man, the real battle. I know Iron Man vs Stane's Mark 1 suit kind of went Transformers-ish with two "robot looking things" fighting each other, but Iron Man vs War Machine gets me all geeky again.
love the opening to trailer! "You can't have it!" Hollywood matters… America matters… The America we all know and love… before its gone.
Now that is hot, hot, hot ! Downey has really proved himself as a superhero. Rourke, is too cool ! Ac/dc and Ozzy in the soundtrack as well ! I like it.
Nice little vaguely conservative Bit at the beginning. Rest of the trailer looks pretty awesome too.
Looks like a good flick.
Garry Shandling as a whiny senator… genius!
Saying a movie is too "pro-American" is probably one of the weirdest complaints I've ever heard about a movie. I remember when some British critic went off on a single shot in Spider-Man 3 where he jumps in front of the American flag. Since film is a very emotional medium I never have a problem with Americanism seeping into the overall presentation since there is very little more American than the classic comic book hero. Funny how a lot of those characters were conceived by Canadians but then again Billy Wilder made some of the greatest movies about American culture of all time and he's from Europe. Sometimes it takes an outsider to really appreciate this country.
I think I remember Vince Vaughn saying once that when he was on a tour of Europe, he laughed at how ridiculous it was having some European kid in an Allen Iverson jersey lecture him about the evils of American consumerism. Or maybe that was a peyote trip I was on.
A good old-fashioned American ass-kicking, with a heavy metal soundtrack. Love it.
War Machine and Iron Man at the end of the trailer fighting together was awesome. I think Scarlett Johansson was miscast as Black Widow. Too bad Emily Blunt had to bow out of the role. Bring on the Captain America movie followed by "The Avengers" movie!
I can live with it. First solid (read: non whiney/emo) reason I've seen to look into Marvel characters.
Yes, yes you are…..
I recommend a high colonic and a fifth of Jack Daniels STAT…..
Dark Knight is on a completely diferent level than a mere superhero movie. It's so far beyond that it's simply in a class of it's own. That said, Ironman was thoroughly entertaining and RDJ owns the role of Tony Stark.
What are Mickey Rourke's politics??
Gwyneth Paltrow has the brain capacity of styrofoam…..
I don't know his actual politics, probably to the left of me, but he came out and said basically said that all the stuff that has happened in America, that it was too easy for people to blame Bush. Basically, he pointed out the idiots with Bush Derangement Syndrome. Other than that, I think he has kept his politics to himself, though I may be wrong.
I can respect that….
Brian Hines has it right. He did this while being interviewed after the Golden Globes. Needless to say, libbies don't like people saying stuff like that. Can you say "goodbye oscar?" Now he may not have won anyway, but he surelydidn't win any cocktail party invitations.
Hahaha, styrofoam…I actually laughed out loud at that
Seriously though…the woman reminds me of those ideological college kids that haven't done any thinking for themselves yet. She'll always live in a bubble.
Screw those cocktail parties, He's welcome at any shindig I throw. Granted they're not black tie affairs, more like kegs and jello-shots and BBQ……
Didn't she once say that people with a British accent sound smarter than Americans??
She should have just come out and said that her IQ hovers around 65, it would be less of an embarrassment….
Stuff blowing up and hot chicks, yeah probably see it. I liked the previous one, would not call it an all time great but it had it's moments.
She looked good in the movie, thats all I cared about. I don't give a damn what she thinks in real life.
I thought the reporter he banged looked much better…..
For a lot of us that grew up with those cheesy cutout ten minute Marvel cartoons where the theme song was longer than the story itself, I could never understand why people were crazy about Iron Man, especially after it was shown in the toons that he would lean dramatically against a wall, with his heart plugged into a common ac wall socket via an extension cord.
I loved the movie, I loved that it wasn't all cast in shades of morose blue and black.
It's a toon movie, I like that. I'll go see it, because unlike the vast majority, I don't have to convince myself that I'm deep by watching some driveling sad nonsense about deep deep issues.
That said, I'm really really hoping for a scene where Iron Man plugs himself into a wall socket via extension cord and leans dramatically against the wall, back of hand over forehead, looking exhausted.
I didn't like the first one. The lead character was a cad.
Perhaps you had to have grown up with this marvel stuff to like it. I didn't and frankly find these "superhero" movies pretty blasé if not downright pathetic.
Oh HELL yeah!
"I did you a favor. I've successfully privatized world peace."
Is there ANYTHING about that idea that wouldn't drive a power-tripping leftard completely insane? Epic.
I have the first one on DVD, and I've probably watched it over a half-dozen times. No PC wimp-outs. I love that. Got Hulk too, and it's nearly as good. Marvell may just save western civilization if they keep this up. LOL.
Like when David Duchovny impersonated Jeff Goldblum on SNL's Celebrity Jeopardy…
"Uhhh, I don't know how to read or write."
I agree, however it seems that for every Iron Man they seem to poop out another X-Men (or spin off) or Spiderman 3 and totally ruin the progress they're making.
Iron Man 1 immediately made my Top 12 list of all-time favorite movies.
"Am I seriously the only person who hated Iron Man?"
No, but you're in a smaller minority than those who think MSNBC is the only place to find real news.
Iron Man was awesome! My daughter's favorite movie and one that I happily took her to see (then bought on DVD).
Banged, how crude. I prefer bedded in an adult manner.
Seriously, I think Gwyneth Paltrow and her No talent husband need to stay in whatever corner of England they are in and never show their faces to the light of day again. And their poor kid is named Apple… Now I know why they named her that. Jane wasn't on a preschool flashcard.
"You want my property? You can't have it!"
'Nuff said.
Wha tis up with Don Cheadle taking over the role of Jim Rhodes? Did Terrence Howard want too much money to come back? I hate when they replace actors in sequels. It ruins the flow.
Eric Bana as Hulk was awesome, I must agree.
I very much liked the first one, despite the ending (battle between two cgi robots, essentially). Tony Stark is everything good and everything tacky about America. I can't help but love him, even as I loathe his personal life. It's nice to have a realistically flawed hero character. There's no doubt he's a cad, but he's honest about who he is.
I didn't see enough of Johansson to see if she'll be decent as Black Widow, but I will say that she looks pretty good
I will say that Rourke looks fantastic as Whiplash. I was afraid the whips would come out looking like floppy lightsabers, but they really look nasty. And I like the juxtaposition of the vest being built much like the first Iron Man suit.
The first movie was only sorta conservative, in that Stark seemed to embody the basic American instincts of freedom and justice and free enterprise. When he sees his hard work being used to hurt people, he puts an end to it. The military was portrayed positively as well. Beyond that, the movie wasn't really about politics, but about values. This movie looks to be on a similar track, although in this case it looks like the bad guy has a more personal connection to Tony. I'm interested to see if the Ten Rings still play a role…
Oh, and War Machine does look amazing.
I would have cast Michael Jai White, Spawn, as Jim Rhodes instead of Cheadle
Wow … looks like Stark could "go Gault."
I love this trailer!
I think the real reason was that Favreau didn't get along with him very well. Cheadle is a good replacement.
Aren't you a little young to be drinking Jack Daniels?
Can't wait for the Avengers either.
I really liked Downey's portrayal of Tony Stark. He was such an arrogant, amoral weasel that it provided a, if you'll pardon the pun, "Stark" contrast with one-dimensional heroes like Peter Parker and Clark Kent.
That said, the second half of the movie was pretty bad. I loved watching him whoop on terrorists at the beginning, if only as a revenge fantasy, but I lost interest as the film progressed.
You are too wrong on too many levels to compute. LOL!
Yes! The "privatizes" line was kick-ass. Can't wait for this.
What's the name of Rourke's villian? Love the Marvel movies but wasn't a comic book reader growing up…
Hopefully, Downy is past all his mess ups. He is quite an actor. He can play a range of roles. This role looks like alotta fun! No one does over the top like Downy. With all the economic turmoil and negativity hurled at America from the Democrats in the last year this film is a reminder of who we are —- a free people with cocky grit that innovate while saving the planet’s residents from the bad guys. America will comeback from its dark night. It is who we are.
Yeah, I don't get the hatred for that movie. And I *really* don't get how people can think a less-intelligent popcorn endeavor (the reboot) is a better idea. Maybe you have to be both a comic book fan and someone willing to think deeper and feel stronger to appreciate a movie like "Hulk" or "The Dark Knight".
Oh no. Not bloody likely. But he doesn´t have to be a Republican, just a professional. With some humility and respect for his audience. And a rudiment of rationality. That is a lot these days. Let´s not get carried away.
Awesome trailer. Brilliantly edited. How often do I see a trailer and immediately think: gotta see this? Almost never. But this is one of those rare cases.
It's amazing how things change in so many years. Yeah, Iron Man was great, but look at the mess that the book is. A few years ago Marvel gave the world called Civil War where Iron Man and Captain America started a 'war' which was nothing but over-hyped nonsense. So, it's not that I didn't like the movie and think the sequel will be good, I suspect it will it's just that that Marvel comics that they are based on is such a mess that it takes all the joy away from seeing another film based on it. This is from a comics fan, obviously.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'll actually get enough will power to go and see it. Hey, am I the only one who thinks Garry Shanlding's face looks wrong. YOu know he's had work and it didn't…. work.
can't wait to see this flick! As I understand it, the US Govt wants Tony to give up the Iron Man technology- he tells them they can't have it, because he invented it and it's his private property. Excellent!
A poster above wondered if favreau is a Republican. I don't know how he votes; but I do know he is a Randian objectivist.
Whiplash. In the movie, he's a mash-up of two long time Iron Man villians, Blacklash and the Crimson Dynamo.
Best. Line. Ever.
"You want my property? You can't have it!"
Pretty nice argument for the 2nd Amendment.
"Looks like Mickey Rourke discovered steroids."
He's been ripped for a long time. Could be steroids. He was, after all, a professional athlete.
I guess I am biased. SInce I saw Munich, I have become a very big Eric Bana fan.
DItto.
It's a nice argument for Americans' right to private property, period.
Oh, you're not wrong. Eric Bana rocks.
Thank you Founding Fathers. And thank you John Locke, too.
Jeebus, do I have to put a /sarc tag on everything? I can't believe I got dinged for that.
