Crazy, huh? But there is a darker vibe about the craziness this time around. I used to feel it was funny crazy, UFO-Loch Ness crazy. Now though, it’s becoming disturbing crazy.
In the wake of the publishing of the East Anglia e-mails, I’m beginning to see a Roy Cohn-at-Tailgunner-Joe’s-side quality in some of the more zealous climatological gurus’ incessant bleats.
(By the way, how much CO2 does a whiny bleat put out into the atmosphere?)
Some of them are no doubt vaguely cognizant of the fact that they might have way overbet this hand and that there’s now something much more important in play than the plight of the planet. And that of course would be their reputations and standing in the herd of man.

Oh, just wait. Despite what everyone knows, I was watching NBC News one evening this week, and Brian Williams stated that 2009 would go down as the 5th HOTTEST year on record. I kid you not. I've seen "V for Vendetta" once or twice, and remembered the line where Natalie Portman's character said she could tell when the anchorwoman on TV was telling a lie because of how quickly she blinked her eyes. I started squinting at Williams' face to see if that was the case here. Couldn't tell.

Timely article, I just finished topping off my "Carbon Storage Pile" for the winter.
The Consensus only exists between like minded individuals. The problem with Scientific Consensus is that it has never existed and that is a good thing otherwise advam\\ncements would not be possible. The ONLY question that needs to be asked, but has never been answered, is where is the proof. All swe ever hear when that question is asked is how PEER REVIEWED Scientists support AWG and the DENIERS are not peer reviewed. That might have flown for a little while but now we know that the CRU Scientists with help from Dr. Mann and others not discovered yet corrupted the Peer Review process until it was meaningless.
There is real discussions right now amoung several top Physical Scientists in various disciplines to De-Certify Climate Science as a real science and to roll back the study of climate to the various other disciplines. This is happening because of the way Climate Science has been running it's' own shop.

I believe the Law of the land considers it so. However, they reach at least some of their opinions via
consensus. Take Homosexuality, at one time during the 80s whether or not the practice of the act was
a perversion or a legitimate choice was under discussion. At the conclusion a vote was taken by show of hands. It was voted down and considered a perversion each time until the late 80s when a sufficent number of hands were raised to consider it a legitimate unavoidable lifestyle. The vote was by a narrow margin.
I have trouble with either side of the issue but its my opinion and not germaine to the question. Does this example, if I am correct in the facts, confuse the issue of what is science and how its proven?

1. The crazy charismatic types (like cult leaders) who bring themselves to believe it and have the status, ego and "prestige" to be seem credible about it. These are journalists, academics and other poorly informed intelligent people.
2. The evil geniuses who use this issue to advance their own agenda, which ranges from personal power and greed to dramatic social disruption to bring down Western Civilization. These are people like Gore, Obama, Van Jones, the Climate Research Hoaxers. These people are very dangerous.
3. The useful idiots (like cult followers) who are woefully naive, are generally overeducated "social studies" types who seem to have way too much time on their hands (and obviously some emotional void in their life which they fill by getting involved in what they have been convinced is a noble cause). These people give #1 & #2 their power. That's why they're known as "useful" idiots.
This is one of the unintended consequences of an affluent lifestyle being available to so many unworthy people, Oh well.
I'm still hopeful that the truth will prevail because these frauds and deceit eventually unravel.

good question. I'll answer by saying that it shouldn't confuse the issue of what is or is not known as The Method of Scientific Proof. If it does, then we're in some really deep chit. Scientists from way before Capernicus were debating whatever was on the forefront of science as they knew it. Cavemen debated and proved which spear killed the better dinner. Science has always accepted a baseline for what was accepted as science. It's only been the last 50 years or so where the natural human tendencies to lie, cheat, and steal have been encouraged in scientific methods and been allowed to continue when those activities would have been scorned in the past.
I challenge all scientists to prove to us non-scientists that we can trust their science, from ANY field, any more. Until they do, I'm going to take what "they" tell me with a boxcar load of salt.

Michael Crichton gave a speech from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA on January 17, 2003. He really nailed it about this whole climate change debate. This bit really pulled it together, and it's not even the conclusion.
This fascination with computer models is something I understand very well. Richard Feynmann called it a disease. I fear he is right. Because only if you spend a lot of time looking at a computer screen can you arrive at the complex point where the global warming debate now stands.
Nobody believes a weather prediction twelve hours ahead. Now we're asked to believe a prediction that goes out 100 years into the future? And make financial investments based on that prediction? Has everybody lost their minds?

I am no fan of Psychiatry but since it is part of the Medical Disciplines it is more acurately described as a skill or art. We use Science to advance Medicine but because we have to deal with human beings who can never describe symptoms the same way it has become an art to devine a diagnosis. Blood tests and the like can only tell so much and more often than no will mislead an unexperienced physcian. Psychiatry on one hand has made huge strides in understanding the workings of the mind but it is still in its infancy and all opinions from this particular branch should be taken with a grain of salt.
Leftwing retrogrades and scientific illiterates believe we evolved from inanimate objects to beings that can think and reason but they scoff at the notion that there are fluctuations in climate. The fact that ice ages have come and gone is apparently an inconvenient truth, which is why leftwing hacks need to manipulate their data.
Normally these liberal rejects are laughed at and ridiculed, they’re the “adults” with arrested development that you find sitting at the kids table during the holidays. I'll trust it all as long as they give me reason to. Certain aspects I lend more credibility to than others. Some I can dismiss right off. Having spent some time on the couch, I understand and appreciate the process. I don't give my money away every week though to try and get better. I can sort of do that by myself now. But I wouldn't be able to diagnose my internal physical issues. So I'll choose the doctors I want to trust as long as I can.

Global warming? Sure, a bit (about 1 degree or so over the last century). Nothing to get hysterical about. The planet has been going through warming and cooling cycles for millions of years. Why stop now? The problem is the warmists can't see past their own lifetimes. They are so self absorbed in their own comfort levels that anything that might inconveniences them becomes a crisis. Part of that inconvenience is having their grant funding cut off. And by the way, Al Gore IS at the center of a worldwide conspiracy, the point of which is to enrich Al Gore before everybody catches on.

I've posted this theory before so bear with me. Global Warming is not now and never has been about the planet.
It is solely about the prosperity of the American middle class — not the prosperity of the Kerrys, Kennedys, Clintons, Obamas and all the super rich (mostly) Democrats who consider themselves the ruling elite – but the prosperity of the middle class who through air miles and the like now can fly first class (driving the self styled superiors to have to take private jets not to rub elbows with us riff raff). When someone in Bangladesh or Zimbabwe or Tehran turns finds out that a factory worker in America drives an SUV and s/he can't afford heating oil or doesn't have air conditioning or enough food, it is a poke in the eye and foments resentment against both America AND their own government. If this resentment segues into revolution, there's chaos and no elite likes chaos (witness our elite's response to the relatively mild tea parties). Global Warming, Climate Change or it's previous iteration (Global Cooling in the seventies) is meant to increase the cost of energy to the point Middle America is put back into its rightful place. No more seeing Joe the used car salesman teeing off on the golf course or a group of doctors holding a medical convention at some spa where only the Edwardses and Kerrys used to frequent.
By the way. Nobody talks about it much, but the solar activity of the past decade caused Mars to heat up, too.

I think they renamed it "climate change" when the earth stopped warming secondary to the increased solar activity of the past decade. I don't know if you remember, but back in the 70's, we were warned about global cooling. I guess they got a little concerned maybe the useful idiots would catch on (no such luck) so changed it to climate change which covers everything. Changing the nomenclature to "Climate Change" caused me to think back to the eighties when my liberal friend and I got into heated debates about whether we were all in danger of catching AIDS. My friend was convinced we all were at risk. Same friend hasn't mentioned AIDS in years. Then there was the "nuclear winter" and the "acid raid" and all the other blights American middle class prosperity in their stinking, spewing, carbon emitting automobiles and bovines are using to destroy the planet <s>
I think there is global warming due to the natural cycle of the planet. After the Ice Age, the planet warmed, after the planet warmed, there came another Ice Age, etc. , etc. We've had ten years of increased solar activity which caused not only earth to heat up, but Mercury, Venus and Mars. Don't know about Jupiter.

Chances are, you rely on community college graduates for your life to stay on track. When your car breaks down, do you seek out the mechanic with a master's from MIT, or do you go to your neighborhood mechanic, who probably graduated from Smalltown Community College. And how 'bout your plumber, your air conditioner repairman, the medical assistants who take your vitals and administer your B12 injections? All community college graduates.

"A whiny bleat"…exactly! All my attempts to get facts out of these pro-AGW folks end up as personal attacks. I am a project manager. It is my job to determine risk, evaluate viable options, and get the project team to implement the selected option. Whenever I approach AGW proponents this way, they cannot stand it.
I used to contribute to a blog that featured libs and conservatives – okay, only one conservative (me). The libs were all smart – all college professors that either worked in the classroom or in research. They said they believed in the scientific method. Lovely. But when it came down to practicality and the implementation of their ideas, they just couldn't go there. It was always obvious the science was right, but they could never determine how to pay for things or exactly what the practical impact was going to be. The endgame was always, "well, we gotta do something. Now!" Yeah, like that'll fly in the board room.
These folks were more than happy to send me to realclimate to get the opinions of "real" scientists. So I went there. The contributors and blog commentors spent more time denying the "deniers" than they did proving their science. It's not pretty watching "smart" adults throw temper tantrums.

I don't feel like I'm overly sensitive. I felt the same way about community college when I was in high school. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from a state university, couldn't find a job, decided to broaden my skill set and started working on an associate's degree in a completely different field than my BS. I got hired (in the associate's degree field) before I finished the program.
You may have meant it ironically, and that's fine. I call my incomplete associate's degree my half-ass diploma. I'm not humorless. But, I've seen people with 4-year degrees insult the "less-educated" too many times to count. A piece of paper does not confer or confirm intelligence, knowledge, or sense.

The liberals haven't infiltrated community colleges as much, because very few liberals will to dirty their hands with auto fluids or farm byproducts. As for the South being better than the Midwest, 1-It's warmer. I shoveled 900 ft^3 out of my driveway on Wednesday. 2-The food's better. No, the tea parties were not "chaos" but were perceived and presented as such by the elite propaganda media and the elite governing class. Chaos to them is when they are not in total control of every aspect of the subjects' behavior and action. They had no control over the tea parties or the partiers and I think looked upon them like the Iranian government looked upon the demonstrators after the stolen election — the difference is in degree. I actually lived in the South for 10 years of my adult life and moved back to the Midwest (Cincinnati) only because of job opportunities.2 of my 3 children were born in the South, by the grace of God. I also love the South. As far as the food being better, well, Cincy is not far from the Mason-Dixon line and has the best of both worlds, North and South.

BTW, I attended comm. college for vocational studies myself. I was intimating perhaps katie didn't even go to comm. college at all, per someone else's suggestion she attended comm. college.
So, in the interest of preserving your bruised ego, I'll go through my comments with you, k? "Who said she went to college?". It's obvious, to me at least, that I questioned her statement of going to college at all. "More like community collage", meaning not community college, but something totally different, and less than. Now I hope I didn't offend anyone with a High School Diploma, wow, how pc of you to take offense. Me doth think thou protest too much. Have a nice day!

BEIJING — Stephen Hawking expressed concern about global warming Wednesday even as he charmed and provoked a group of Chinese students.
Before an audience of 500 at a seminar in Beijing, the celebrity cosmologist said, "I like Chinese culture, Chinese food and above all Chinese women. They are beautiful."
The audience of mostly university students and professors and a smattering of journalists laughed and applauded.
Asked about the environment, Hawking, who suffers from a degenerative disease, uses a wheelchair and speaks through a computerized voice synthesizer, said he was "very worried about global warming."
He said he was afraid that Earth "might end up like Venus, at 250 degrees centigrade and raining sulfuric acid."
Also as regards that Crichton speech at Caltech, I believe there was also a speech by a proponent of global warming, and the audience decided in favor of the latter.
Yeah, maybe sometimes I take myself a little too seriously. There are bigger things to worry about then minutiae.
We know there are cycles. I think we don´t know much more than that. The global climate is so incredibly complex and the energy inputs and outputs so huge, and for how long have we accurately measured global temperatures anyway? A couple of decades at best? It is entirely possible that CO2 is causing warming. But it is madness and inhumane to overreact and destroy economic development and liberty. Poverty kills more people every year than melting glaciers ever will. And note how the precautionary principle suddenly applies here, but never to things like the Iranian atom bomb.
And that´s why this looks to me like a pretext to give the reds what they always wanted.
