NBC's Friday night series “Grimm” is a fantasy show, but for reasons I cannot fathom the program's writers chose to mine that most heinous relic of Mittel-Europa: the story of the seemingly good and kind Jew who is really a demonic creature underneath for last week's...

another lousy commercial?
I'm starting to feel like Ralphie with the Ovaltine ad.
Obama's Approval Ratings Have Gone to the Dogs. The smartest dogs in America don't approve of Obama.
Well, it's Breitbart's site run by Nolte, so I guess they can do what they want. I couldn't help but compare Public Service Announcements like this with the "I pledge" crap recently vomited out. "I pledge… to smile more… to find out my neighbor's name… not to give someone the finger in traffic… to sell my obnoxious car and drive a hybrid… to be of service to Barack Obama… to be a servant to our president…".
I'll take the 1950s Christmas Seals ads over that ridiculousness any day.
oh yeah me too
but these combined with all the commercials on TV and every other media source is wearing me out.
That said I'm not gonna get to worked up.
It is the holidays after all. And it does remind me of the less fortunate.
Do they even do christmas seals any more? TB seems like such an outdated disease now.
I suppose it has fallen out of fashion
Ugh…. I have absolutely positively given up on Law and Order:SVU after last night…. First it's the orginal series putting the Bush admin on trial and then it's SVU that put Conservative radio hosts on trial…. I saw the commercial and immediately watched Red Eye from yesterday morning….
I can't make that promise…..
Speaking of smug and insipid: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fe1e3f7c-e507-11de-9a25...
Ya godda appreciate Jeffrey Immelt's naked pimping and whoring. Yes, naked pimping and whoring.
I'll bet not one of those "pledgers" kept their promises either. I'll bet they still did the flippin' the name calling, the treating their servants like trash etc. They're all hypocrites IMO.
It's a new cottage industry – training dogs to "get it". I love it!
A pondering moment for me. Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that obamacare gets passed and cap and trade gets passed. Then let's say, for the sake of sanity, that conservatives surge to majority victory in 2010 and 2012. Can those two programs be repealed?
Apparently they are: http://www.christmasseals.org/
Perusing their site just now they've gone beyond TB though and, it seems, even they are leaning toward the PC side of things with statements like "We won’t stop until everyone lives and works in a smokefree state." Hmm.
California, which is dumb broke by the way, is now airing ads about second-hand smoke wafting from one room or apartment into another and throttling the innocents of air.
Say it with me: YES THEY CAN!
What's truly sad is these people still think they're being edgy and relevant and "speaking truth to power." You have to admit, it takes real guts to go to Hollywood and bash Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.
what about poor Bud Abbott and Lou Costello?…
other than Costello was obsessed with Jerome 'Curly' Howard of the Three Stooges- and got the Columbia shorts as soon as they came out so he could steal what he thought worked for him- the derby hat gag, for one.
Lou Costello was funny in his own right, and we are fans. He just had the real good taste to know great comedy when he saw it- The Three Stooges!
However, we love all the Universal films of the 50's; where the pair meet Frankenstein, the Wolfman, Mummy-
some of the best screen comedies made.
And, of course there's 'Who's On First?'…
there was a law suit in the dallas area about that
it's a matter of public record, friend- one with the voluminous knowledge you possess should be aware of this. Before they were released, Lou would get a private viewing. He was insanely jealous of Curly, whose physical gift for humor was nonpareil. Other than that, their is little comparison, sure. Vaudeville vs the early days of radio and comic duo. We are fond of both, but respectfully disagree with your take on the stooges…
I've read a lot about the Stooges and, according to Moe Howard, Lou Costello would sneak backstage at some of the Stooges' personal appearances and watch Curly intensely. You can see a lot of Curly mannerisms in Lou's schtick.
IMO, Curly Howard was a comedic genius who has never gotten his just due.
For every one episode that they get right, they have to have something ridiculous like last night's. I guess it just shows how much the Left is afraid of one R Limbaugh and one G Beck.
Just curious, in how many cases have the defendants used the Limbaugh Defense?
our point exactly…
We don't blame Costello for his obsession; insecurity is the hallmark of celebrity. Similar in appearance, Lou knew that Curly set the mark for physical comedy.
He just 'borrowed' some of it. it didn't seem to bother Curly one bit…
Yes, but highly unlikely. Democracies have a terrible record for rescinding entitlements.

Now I get it. When you said Columbia shorts I was thinking khakis, but that didn't make any sense.
What kind of car are they in?
I just read Obama's Nobel Acceptance speech in its entirety, and I gotta say it: He really did our country proud this time.
"Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest — because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity."
No wheedling. No apologies for imperialist America's cruel and bloody history. For once, he actually spoke like a proud leader of a great nation. He does go on the obligatory pro-socialism tangent towards the end, and he fudged Reagan's legacy a bit, but otherwise it was a brilliant speech.
Kudos to whoever wrote it.
Is Michelle Obama really the most fascinating person of 2009? Discuss amongst yourselves.
Fixed.

In life pain is the real motivator to action. How much longer will it take before people truly understand it has been the party system that has allowed the corruption to steal so such money, but the real theft is to our freedom..
Yuk.
"Is Michelle Obama really the most facinatingly 'worst dressed' person of 2009? Disgorge into toilet."
ho! you plenty funny…
no
end of discussion
This is all news to me. I have not done research into the Stooges or A&C.
But even so – the Stooges are nearly entirely physical comedy. Physical comedy is only a small part of Abbott and Costello -both in their comedy and in their films.
"Before they were released, Lou would get a private viewing." On the strength of what?
From Wiki-
On several occasions, Moe was convinced that rising star Lou Costello (a close friend of Shemp) was siphoning material from Curly. Costello was known to acquire prints of the Stooges' films from Columbia Pictures on occasion, presumably to study Curly. Inevitably, Curly's routines would show up in Abbott and Costello features…."
How did Lou Costello get access to Columbia prints? Before 1940, A&C were pretty much unknown in Hollywood, so it is unlikely he would have any 'pull' there, plus if it was known that he was trying to glom material from Curly, why would Columbia permit the practice of making prints available? Also – 'Curly routines showing up in A&C films'? I need citations of such before I could believe that.
Once a nation followed George to freedom.. It is time to follow him to freedom again.. Walk away from your party.. For it is a thief, a king that weakens your heart and blocks your way to freedom..

Truly independent, and damn proud of it!
I have taken your advice…Is this better..
These commercials are great to see. And this one has the great Charles Laughton as their chauffeur!
Have you checked out Con. Ron Paul from Texas?
A lot of his positions seem pretty off the wall, but when viewed through the prism of classical liberalism (i.e. the kind espoused by Washington, Madison, Jefferson, et. el), they do make sense.
Also, a lot of his positions are grossly exaggerated because the ruling elites from both sides of the aisle are scared of them.
this is mostly from Moe Howard's recollections; he kept copious notes. From what we recall, this was done in the early 40's, The Stooges were more established but Abbott and Costello were rising stars. Somehow- not sure how- he (Lou) was able to get a screening copy days before it was released.
There are gags (the derby machine gun) that are indisputably Curly's that appear in their films. So, given the fact that everyone is deceased you must take Jeff Forester's word (the official biographer of the Stooges) as gospel.
However, a real fan can tell you it's pretty obvious Costello studied Curly Howard…
Ron Paul is the only politician I have ever donated money too. They covered his campaign in Reason magazine extensively.
Ron Paul energized a small, but very devoted, and very electric portion of the electorate during the primaries.
I'm keeping my eye on him and his movement.

I'm not thrilled they call themselves the Republican Liberty Caucus, I'd prefer just liberty. But hey, I'll take what I can get at this point.
One of their biggest projects is to pass a law that states when ever legislation is submitted to Congress, the author has to specifically cite where the constitution grants Congress the authority they want to assert in the bill.
It's a start.
It is a good start and we have long journey ahead.

As near as i can tell it's a 1952 Lincoln Capri.
I love Charles Laughton.
Cute video, but the creepy music in the background not only drove me a little nuts, it also was louder than a couple of the clips. I could barely make out what the people were saying to their dogs.
Love it!
Perfect!
Yes…she is. Thanks for saying that . It's amazing to see so-called fashion authorities, who may or may not know better ,flutter about, cooing and fawining and giving her a pass for some really atrocious fashion choices for a 'First Lady'.
Although, in all fairness, Republicans aren't much better, having a tendency to attempt to harness all that power for their own purposes, rather than just get rid of them and the abuses they bring. Which is why they need to be stopped now.
It's a nice reminder that once upon a time big Hollywood stars were involved with things bigger than their own egos.
I can see it in his timing (and Curly was a genius with timing) but both played similar characters so it's hard to say… – however the smoking gun will be if a clip surfaces where Lou sees a mouse and hits the floor screaming "Hey! Abbot! The Cheese! Hey! Abbot! The Cheese!"
No
The Science Is Settled… further discussion is not allowed.
What are you talking about? "Got the Columbia shorts as soon as they came out"? These were shown in theaters. You couldn't own them.
A&C and the 3 Stooges are pretty different styles of comedy. All the Stooges shorts are mindless physical comedy. There's no wit or cleverness to them.
A&C have very little physical comedy and it is all by Lou Costello. Their material has some thought put into it.
Not sure what you are trying to say in your post.
Well, she's fascinating to Barbara Walters, much in the same way a shiny object is fascinating to a Pig-Tailed Macaque.
Ron paul is right on the fed.. and the party kings do destroy all who question them even on sites like this..
I said democracies, not democrats. And yes, I agree, republicans have only a slightly better average.
Ironically, the democrats actually seem to be more honest. They campaign promising to destroy America. Republicans campaign on lower taxes, limited government, and when elected do pretty much the same thing.
It's not republicans v. democrats or conservatives v. liberals, its We The People v. the ruling elites, regardless of which party they claim to belong to. I'm convinced the two party system is nothing more than political theater. And while we watch this ping-pong game, dutifully documented by the willing MSM, the ruling elite rob us blind.
You're correct. Too bad Barbara W. did not get the memo.
and Curly was ok with it, the kind of guy he was…
