----- Later this week, Big Hollywood will address Tom Hanks' comments in this interview about how long it's taking for America to overcome racism. But for now, let us all pause and reflect on just how much more enlightened the actor is than the rest of us. Back to...

Why Dick Cheney Should Run in 2012
Gallup is not asking about him in its prospective polling, and his daughter Liz's recent Fox News Sunday allusion to a presidential run provoked good-natured laughter, as though the suggestion were just a one-liner. Float the hypothetical in political conversation, and people roll their eyes dismissively.
But I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.)

The Twelve Bows of Christmas Obama Gave to Me
Obowma's gift to the American people. Too bad there are no exchanges until 2012.
If you like this video, spread it around. As Peggy Noonan just wrote, the bow might define his presidency.
A friend emailed me recently……A recession is when a neighbor loses their job, a depression is when you lose your job, and recovery is when Obama loses his.
Martha Raye
Martha Raye! I just saw a video of her way back when; it was a clip from "Rhythm of the Range" (1936) at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BYrupo8zAo (while learning about the history of the bazooka: believe it or not: the troops named the weapon after that instrument the guy on the right [Bob Burns] is playing).
If you believe the comment at this video, Ella Fitzgerald was influenced by Raye, and that's easy to believe with this song. I'd like to hear more of her singing.
BTW, all that interest in the bazooka came about when Mark Steyn mentioned it recently during his Song of the Week writeup of "Hooray for Hollywood!" during his Mercer celebration (Burns's instrument is mentioned in the lyrics), so the circle is now complete.
Raye did USO tours in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and there is a tremendous story about her in Vietnam over at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Raye#USO
An honorary Green Beret…wow! She was buried with full military honors at Fort Bragg, too.
Did anyone happen to catch "Mortal Storm" on TCM last night?
It stars Jimmy Stewart and other big names, and is an excellent study of how a Christian nation, people steeped in fine traditions and values can decend into totalitarianism in Germany in the 1930's.
The movie starts just prior to Hitler being named Chancellor and shows family, friends, and the society tearing themselves apart and the devious methods used to ostracize those that don't "think correctly". Eventually people are locked up in concentration camps or start being "shot trying to escape".

Some of the lines are chilling. In one scene Jimmy Stewart is trying to avoid politics (he is studying to be a Vet and lives in the country) and says he simply wants to have his farm and help his neigbors take care of their cows. One of his friends (he is all in for Hitler and excited about 'reclaiming Germany's greatness) says: "Well if they want to keep thier cows they better have the right politicial beliefs."
I had my daughter watching with me and had some great dicussions on how this can happen, it was such a great teaching point to show how neighbors could be forced or induced to inform on neighbors, brothers turn against brothers, etc.
A fantastic film, and I must say if you are so inclined, worth a spot on your Netflix queue.
Check out Lt. Colonel Allen West, US Army-Retired – running for Congress in Florida. Hooah!

Thats the first time I've seen the video of noblama meeting the emperor and empress of Japan. I'm not sure, but it looks like he couldn't STOP bending over…………………………unbelievable!
well done! thanks for that.
Martha Raye was a favorite of my mother's. And her 9 sisters. I guess those type of comedians got them through some dark days and years. Both Ray and my mom had a great sense of humor and had fun.
I caught the end of Some Like It Hot the other night and saw Joe E Brown at the end with Jack Lemmon. Joe E Brown and Raye are very similar in a good way.
good one!
Credit goes to Ronald Reagan for that one.
Martha Raye came from the era when movie stars and celebrities were patriots and supporters of our military. It's really hard to envision Jennifer Anniston doing a one woman show in Vietnam or Leonardo DiCaprio on a bombing raid over Berlin.
Congress? How 'bout President!
What a speech! I got the chills a couple of times!
Without a teleprompter?
If that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what will.
Thanks for sharing.
Classic pic!
I was a Forward Air Controller in Vietnam in the late sixties. One day I was radioed by one of the Special Forces camps I supported with an invitation to land for coffee, and that there was someone I might want to meet. As it happened, the local VC had done something particularly atrocious in a nearby hamlet the previous night and I was busy looking for someone to kill. They got another FAC to stop by. What they were looking for was a ride for Colonel Maggie (Martha Raye) to one of the other A-camps in the province.
A question. How is it that the nimrods in the Congress and Department of Justice believe the so-called Gitmo detainees will recieve a fair trial in the US? These 'perpetrators' were kidnapped from their homelands, were not read their 'rights', were tortured and held incommunicado for years and suddenly they're to receive the benefit of the doubt at the tax-payers expense. The statements made by Holder et al regarding assurances of a conviction have done anything more than to give all the appearences of this being nothing other than a mere formality, a kangaroo court with even more press for the ubiquitous narcissist and dire implications for our system of justice and our nation. And how the hell can you address the alleged crimes of one party (the alleged terrorists) without pointing out the crimes of another (Bush et al)? Somehow I see these 'perps' getting off with time served.
Never heard of this film, I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Not the obama part.
Really? I only always saw her when she was old and on Hollywood squares.
Interesting. I watched a documentary a few years ago, black and white, and it just showed how simply ga-ga people were for hitler at that time. I think it could happen again because in truth people really haven't changed all that much. They are still easily led by a wolf in sheeps clothing.
….."Somehow I see these 'perps' getting off with time served. "
If we are lucky
I see a pardon from Hussein Obama ,he has an ax to grind with America and Bush.
And to be President of the world like he wants to be he has to appease all the Muslims in the U.N.
His health has been a bit problematic for a long time, but he's still with us thank God, and I would vote for him in a heartbeat. He should have been President from '01 – not that I dislike GWB 1/1000th as much as the left hates him, but that he, like his father, lacked "the vision thing"ee. Dick is and always has been a solid thinker.
& yet, at the same time we have a local St. Louis prosecutor delaying pressing charges & when she did, under charged a videoed, racial assault on a person. We have prosecutors in Chicago dropping charges on a gang member videoed killing a kid on the street. A U.S.A.G. dropping charges on Black Panthers members……. Lets get the system working for the people who are actual citizens before we give these people who believe no one has rights, unless you follow them, Constitutional Rights.
MARTHA RAYE – Major talent, yet now little remembered. Her best films are all Paramount comedies and musicals from the mid to latter 1930s, sometimes with Bob Hope.
Superb singer – she did both ballads and rhythm numbers with the same sleek skill. Very pretty when she was young with a very full mouth, plus a killer figure.
She recorded commercially in the latter 30s, but not enough. Her soundtrack recordings came out once on a 2 LP set and may have made it to CD by now.
She had a very buoyant screen persona and her, "Ohhhh, boy!" exclamation was a catch phrase. She's remembered by generations of GIs and her exploits were even memorialized in a 40s feature feature film FOUR JILLS IN A JEEP with her touring comradettes, CAROLE LANDIS (vava vooom!), KAY FRANCIS and MITZI MAYFAIR. It's on video.
I've wondered what later generations of servicemen and women made of this overt, busty and funny faced woman who they have never heard of before. Anyone know?
btw – that's a nice photo of her up there. She took a good photo back in those days.
Benny Goodman and Martha Raye 1936 – http://tinyurl.com/Martha-Raye-and-Benny-Goodman – great pic!
Martha (somewhere!), Carole Landis on stage in North Africa – 1943 – huge photo w 1000s of GIs

In the weekend edition of USATODAY, there's a comic of an indian standing on shore, as a pilgrim (with his wife and screaming baby) lands with his boat….and say's,
"Greetings! We come to escape religious persecution….and to clear-cut the countryside, set up a massive government, run up trillions in debt, embrace immorality of every kind and eventually devolve into Godless socialism………………………….."
how much truth is there to that statement???
I found some pic of the WH crashers on POlo website…pics of them with Obama from 2005, McCain, and one with Clinton and one outside DoD ..I posted them on my twitpic page http://twitpic.com/ri361
But doesn't Dick Cheney eat babies? That's what I heard at college.
Anyone think Roger Staubach might run? His name has been popping up in commercials lately. Roger Staubach wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving… Let's honor our vets, like Roger Staubach. Anyone else hear these?
May God bless the families of the four slain Lakewood police officers ambushed in a coffee shop by a cowardly piece of garbage. 9 or 10 children lost their Dad or Mom today as they prepared to go to work. My heart breaks for the families of these officers and I hope the human debris that commited this crime is brought to justice quick, here on earth and beyond.
Caught it by accident and got hooked…very apropos for our times wasn't it..
Sent this to all my contacts…he is someone I would wholeheartedly support!!!
'I hope the human debris that committed this crime is brought to justice quick, here on earth and beyond'
I'm with you on this one!!!
How come nobody is talking about how Donald Rumsfeld let Bin Laden slip away in 2001?

What a treat – thanks! I'm still laughing about the "Hellzapoppin" arrow scene.
Old news. Here, if you insist:

Same here, was an accident, got hooked, was fascinated (shocked?) at some of the parallels that seem to be developing today. . .
What a moron! No one was "kidnapped." They were captured on the battlefield trying to kill Americans and our allies. They don't HAVE any "rights." They aren't criminals. They are terrorists and combatants. They've HARDLY been "incommunicado" what with every left-wing, bleeding-heart lawyer in the country clamoring to represent them and conducting interviews to that end. Finally, President Bush has NOT committed any "crime"…period. Try to get OFF of that mantra and use your head for something other than a hatrack.
When we met, my wife was a PBX operator for SW Bell Telephone. That was back in the mid-60's when you had to use an operator to place a long distance call. She spoke with Martha Raye fairly often. Seems she was carrying on a long-distance "affair" with a young lieutenant that she'd met on one of her trips to Vietnam and HE was going through helicopter flight training–as was I.
