LA Weekly: Hollywood Stimulus Funds Yield 1 Job Per $1.13 Million Spent

Help me out here. What’s crazier – the abysmal failure the stimulus has been in Los Angeles County (like everywhere else) or how outrageously wasteful the plan was to begin with?
Los Angeles County’s take of stimulus funds is by far the largest in California, which has received $18.5 billion in ARRA funds, intended to create 110,219.36 jobs statewide — a pricey rate of $168,264.08 per job.
But Hollywood is a different story entirely. Hollywood — the geographic Hollywood as found on Thomas Guide map page 593 — has received $23,338,327 in grants, loans and contracting. This money has created just 20.57 jobs. That’s $1,134,580.80 per job. And as interviews with recipients reveal, even that tiny jobs claim is clearly false, with many of the claims of newly created positions either impossible to verify or lower than reported.
Not even 20 full-time jobs have been created in Hollywood proper.
So if the stimulus had worked according to the Federal Government’s plan, $168,264.08 would have been spent to create each job. Again, that was the plan … that would’ve been called a success.

the jobs ccreated are in government, and they are the guys counting all the jobs created, and as usual, government workers are not very good, they are lucky to be able to count to one.
I know this is a hackneyed response but liberals are idiots. Idiots. Money does not flow uphill, it flows downhill like water. Businesses need tax breaks. Quit with the threats of government health care and higher taxes and cap and trade. Pay down government debt. Idiots.

This Stimulus to Hollywood is very much needed in this industry.
There is absolutely no Stimulus of any kind coming from Hollywood and there has not been for years.
I think, and if someone can correct me if I am wrong, don't hollywood stars get a MAJOR tax break that the rest of us do not get. That is why they preach WE THE PEOPLE should pay HIGHER taxes, (cause theirs will never go up).

In the wonderful film called "The King of Hearts" the patients of an insane asylum take over a vacated town. The lovely gay character takes over the barber shop and attracts many customers because he actually pays them for their patronage. He was insane so why would we complain if he knew anything about balancing a budget. Suspension of disbelief is great, ain't it? Who knew when this film came out in the mid-seventies that it was to become the model for the Obama administration. The lunatics are in charge and if you go back and watch the film closely you'll see that the barber apparently pays each new customer exactly $168,264.08 for every haircut. The lunatics at the NEA used this new math to show how Obama could ruin the economy really quickly and undermine the very essense of capitalism. Wouldn't that be a crazy thing for an Ivy League grad to do? Engels would be so proud.

(Note: Sorry, to all rabbits) Hollyweird has been on a downward spiral with the movies of late – they aren't worth the ticket price let alone what they "Over" cost to produce – a really bad product.

When we are going to stop calling this a stimulus. The only thing it stimulated was more power for the democratic party. Most of the money went to reward those voting for this administration. Hollywood, unions, ACIU, ACORN, etc.
This is more expensive than sending a soldier into war. Stupid spending by Obama. But if you have to spend that much for a good person, I hope that I'm that next good person!
Actually most of his education was paid for by his wealthy grandmother. She was the head of the largest indepenent bank in Hawaii. They were the bank in the 1970's that worked closest with the Japanese as Japan swept the nation. She was a well paid, respected person in the islands.
The daughter on the other hand was a nut! His real benefit from affirmative action was his admittance to Harvard. Had he not been mixed (ie classified as Black) he would have never gotten in. He did some loans in Harvard.
The amazing thing about Obama is that he worked for much of his money and success but feels that others can't achieve that on their own. I don't get it. I do not understand how he cannot be the man saying here are the tools to success. Do what I did work. What a shame. I didn't vote for him, I voted for Palin and the old guy.

These stimulus funds were never meant to create jobs. They were meant to pay off hack democratic special interest groups.
The vast majority of the funds are sitting in accounts waiting for the 2010 election cycle to start so they can flood the economy with cash, causing economic indicators to artificially look better by November.
Our government is using our own money to buy the election for themselves.

Watch all this play out starting in the spring. The dems are going to flood the economy with all the billions they've been sitting on since it passed. Once that happens leading economic indicators will begin to artificially tick up. The dems will then claim this is proof they can manage the economy as they run for reelection.
And once that money makes it through the economy, the economic indicators will drop back down to their real values, and inflation will kick in. And there's a good chance it will be hyper inflation.
i think the money was taken by Grant Writers and their clients. Its good to be a Grant Writer… very very rich. Lots of money. Easy if you know the system…. unfortunately I don't.
Did Obama finally release his college records? If not how do we know who paid for his education? Last I heard all of his records were sealed.
At $12.50 a seat in the movies, I don't understand the need for a Hollywood bailout. A million is equivalent to a 50K a year job for 20 years. Must be that new fuzzy math.

He didn't release his record but if you think back to the election the story back then was that he & Michelle had college loans that had not been paid off. This agrees with the second books story so it does seem true. Then they paid off their loans from the proceeds of his books sales.
He does not want to release his records, hey they can't even get this guy to release his birth certificate. He is still more a mystery than any president in my life time. But you do have to love the story that he was raised like everyone else. I guess that silver spoon runs in everyones family.
It sounds like his mother was a smart 1960's radical mom. Too busy having fun to worry about reality. She seemed to be well educated just lacking direction and drive. She also had a thing for dark skinned guys.

Now that is the magic trick that no one with any thinking ability can figure out. I believe in God and all I know for sure is that maybe he was elected to wake people like us up. Maybe we are supposed to get active and really participate in our country.
I know for sure that he has upset a ton of people, But look at the D from LA getting $300 million in the healthcare bill, I would have never guessed things like that were needed to get a vote. NOW that we have this open and in the public, I am more than upset.

Valora, I listen to Glenn when I can and sometimes to Mark Levin. Glenn, I think has done a very good job of educating people about the connections of ACORN and SEIU to our Socialist/Communist administration. I do think people are beginning to wake up. So do I, and I'll go one better. I will take said $1,134,580.80 job for only one year, then resign, going back to my regular paying engineering job and allow another to take the stimulated job.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to Romney during the primaries, I don't usually pay attention to primaries in general, I'm a registered independent, so the only part that concerns me is what comes out of them. So I don't know what he wass spouting on health care reform, he dropped out pretty early as I recall. But if he does run again, I will pay very close attention.
Romney seemed to be one of the more conservative pols running on the right. If you have info, please share, because it looks to be shaping up between Palin, Romney, Huckabee, and others known at this time.
(In an amusing side note, spell check offers up Huckster as a possible spelling correction to Huckabee.)
So far I also like Palin, mostly because she scares the living day lights out of the left. She has to be doing something right.
As for Obama, I don't think hes all that concerned with 2012, and I don't think the dems are all that concerned with 2010. If they did they'd be back tracking so fast right now both of Chris Matthews' legs would be tingling.
If dems keep the House in 2010, it spells big trouble for the left in 2012. They have no party to run against, they are responsible for everything. And they suck on defense, they are primarily an attack machine. Which is exactly why they refer to the vast right wing conspiracy and the right wing attack machine. It's nothing more than an attack.
If they get socialized medicine and cap and tax passed, they have everything they want. Who cares if they lose power. Infinitely more power will be waiting for them when they get back.
Lose the House and/or Senate in 2010, that ditches the blue dogs who Pelosi hates anyway. Plus it gives Obama a foil in 2012, republican obstructionism.
I think its all a giant battle plan to allow government to grab as much power as they can, while they can, and they'll sort through the wreckage later.
