Shock: SNL Takes On Obama in Earnest **Video Fixed**
by Big Hollywood“I am noticing that each of your plans to save money involves spending even more money.”
Remember this moment, folks. November 21, 2009 at 11:30pm. Over one year after Obama’s election and just more than ten months into his administration, “Saturday Night Live” takes its first crack at Obama for something other than not being left enough. Splash of ice-cold water here:
The sketch really isn’t pro-conservative as much as it’s anti-Obama. SNL mocks the stimulus, Cash for Clunkers, the debt Obama is increasing exponentially, and Obamacare’s bogus accounting, not to mention the fact that Fred Armisen’s too-cool-for-school Obama took the night off, but the writers are careful not argue for an alternative. SNL deftly takes a crack at one side without directly supporting the other side, a tactic “South Park” has down to a science. The sketch isn’t rock-solid from a policy standpoint, so we will post the clip of the CNN fact check once they air it.
SNL’s “Palin 2012” trailer after the jump:
SNL also took a shot at Sarah Palin last night with a satirical trailer riffing off of Roland Emmerich’s “2012” (which opened last week) where Sarah Palin’s 2012 presidential election leads to Armageddon. Yet, SNL flexes its cunning again by noting “Palin 2012″ is brought to you by the DNC and “the mind of Keith Olbermann.” We figure SNL either intended this to be a dig at the left’s obsession and fear of the Going Rogue author or their way of preempting attacks from media outlets, like, say, this one. Either way, well played.
The concept for the sketch does seem to fall into the “too good to resist” category, since “2012″ is the title of a blockbuster movie and an election year. It also wouldn’t make sense that an Obama RE-election would lead to calamity since we will have (presumably) survived his first term, so it figures a Republican would be the subject of the sketch. It’s far from a shocker that SNL chose Palin over other possible 2012 candidates like Romney or Huckabee. Still, SNL certainly has resisted dozens of obvious Obama jokes over the last couple years, so we’re interested to hear if you give them a pass for this one.

This has the advantage of being funny without the baggage of actually criticizing Obama. The financial crisis is portrayed as an American problem, not an Obama problem. Also, the issue of who is "#@%@#" whom is backwards. Once the Chinese decide to take their money back, then America will be bending over. Note also that the actor portrayed Obama has mentioning China's human rights issue. I doubt that Obama actually mentioned human rights.
This is just more coverage for Obama.
Unfortunately the collapse of the dollar will be here soon. All the lying politician critters for the last 50 years, belong in prison.
As a liberal, I have to say that while I detected a bit of a possible, mildly fiscal conservative bias to the sketch (possibly cowritten, I'm guessing by the very talented Jim Downey), but on the whole there's not much I disagree with here. There's no getting around the fact that we owe China money and that's it's a problem — and not one that conservatives did anything about in the 20 years they effectively ran this country. This same sketch could have undoubtedly been written and been almost equally funny if John McCain were now president — just substiute more useless and moronic tax cuts for the wealthy in place of health care.
Sorry, but this is not the conservative win that it's being painted as.
and this week SNL jumped up 17 spots to number 13 on Obama's enemy list.
They chose Palin because she's all over the news right now, and it was brilliant. And, heck, I voted for Obama and I thought the opening sketch was spot on–if only they'd get someone who can actually DO an Obama impression. And then the opening was followed by a video short that was essentially a d**k joke. Gore was funny, too, as he somehow got his point across while also being a punchline and giving NBC a dig at its lousy ratings. Add a wonderfully exuberant host in Jason Gordon-Levitt (his "Make 'Em Laugh" opening number was an absolute joy) and you have a rare standout episode.
Caught the sketch of Obama going over his "accomplishments" a few weeks ago and thought it was terrible. Every sketch comedian and impersonator in the world wants on SNL, and they can't one who would give a half-assed attempt at doing Obama's mannerisms or even sounding like him? Sure, I'm sure it's nice to see a video wrecking him for a change, but is it actually, you know, "funny?"
My how comedy has fallen. College students love to point out the Daily Show as high-brow, it has nothing on late 80s to mid 90s SNL with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman.
Well at the very least , obammas cloud of superiority and diversity
is being challenged
I'm sorry, with our wonderful young people over in Afghanistan, (I didn't want them in Iraq in the first place! ), and our economy in the dumpster…with predictions that it is going to get way worse, all this other stuff with SNL seems so trivial. Just don't want to talk about this right now. You can bet that I will be energized in 2012 to get Obama out of office and all who have shown a reluctance to abide by our Constitution. The health care bill is a push by Dims for the largest expansion of a government take-over in our lifetimes and I should comment on SNL quips?!!!?
-Bob – Not about left vs. right anymore. Unfortunately, its our own Government vs. "We The People".
If your not petrified of the coming dollar collapse, you aren't paying attention.
Plus, with Asian Lleaders, Obama likes to be the botom.
The 2012 skit was funny but it gives the impression that putting incompetent rubes (which is how they regard Palin) into office would just make the whole nation fall apart. Now just look how many nincompoops we have in congress. Clearly the nation won't fall apart with one more. It's not even about whether Palin is unqualified, I mean come on have they not been watching Obama royally botching our foreign policy AND our economy at the same time?? The left, and the people who are on the government dole, are larely unwilling to acknowledge the fact that we have already tried things their way and they failed. We have already demonstrated that the more we try to give hand outs, the harder we fail to bring about prosperity. Now in order to choose a different path we need to accept that what we did in the past was a mistake and repeal some entitlements and phase out others and balance it with some hefty tax cuts to get jobs going. We could do a lot worse than to elect a conservative to undo some of the garbage that the Democrats have hung on our necks over the past 80 years.
First off that was barely a shot at Obama. All it tells us is Obama uses the same lip-service on foreign dignitaries that he used on the American public and then is shocked that they're not buying it.. I thought these skits were supposed to over-exaggerate a person's persona; these just seem to accurately reflect Obama's persona and therefore falls way short of being funny. The reason SNL and others can't mock Obama is simply because there is nothing funny about this level of ineptitude. His policy of dramatically increasing debt in order to fix an economy collapsing from debt is pure insanity. His foreign policy of extending cooperation in exchange for a slap in the face is absolute lunacy if not total cowardice.. The reason they go after Conservatives is because Conservatives exhibit at least a small degree of competence in their decision-making, which makes their poor choices by contrast funny. But were getting nothing but childlike naivety from this administration.
nice try, but no coconut, the tide is turning against the man who promised and i reiterate PROMISED no ear marks, full disclosure, full transparency, and I could go on and on and on but we all (including you Bob) know he probably meat whet he promised when he said it but when in office he discovered that Jarrett and Rham were the bosses not him.
I kinda feel sorry for him.
[...] …the conservative stupids are taking skits like the SNL opening last night as a slam on Obama. [...]
Twenty years from now looking back to November 4, 2008 – Our children will detest that 52% who did this to this country – these lefty comedy shows will only prove how mentally ill this country is right now. I didn't even watch the clip – why? we all know what side that show is on. It's nauseating ……..The emperor has been naked since he was a senator. No one will seriously call him out.
Wow. It doesnt need to expouse a conservative solution — that is not SNLs role or place anymore than it is to espouse liberalism. It IS thier place to use sarcasm to exspose a truth and be funny in doing so. This is the funniest skit I have seen on SNL in a LONG time and its funny because its good writing and real sarcasm. I just may have to start watching it again.
Obama supporters are acting just like all the clueless Bush supporters did. Oblivious to reality. Trade your green toilet paper for things that have actual value while you still can.
I think it is important, but not really funny. 1. the potus (small p) is being demeaned as inept unable to control his own house. 2. The audience reaction deathly silent on the 800 billion dollar debt. I wonder if the majority of the audience even knew how much we owe?
So why did you?
I have to agree that it's not a hilariously funny skit, but it's hard to be funny when you're talking about a $800 billion dollar debt.
As for whether this is a conservative "win" or not – nobody is saying that SNL has been converted to the conservative cause, but it's nice to see that they've finally taken the blinders off and are starting to go after Obama.
We will probably get another chance to sell our dollars. There will be a flight to safety when the rush to the exits in the crowded trades commences.
Maybe.
Say what we will about the dollar long term. Negative interest rates might be signaling that wonderful fear factor is eeking back. And you can't buy treasuries without dollars.
SNL was tickled pink when Clinton got caught with Monica; before her they didn't have much material because he never gave them much. Then came Dubya and SNL hit the mother load. Now what else can they do? They can't keep saying Obama inherited over this big mess that Bush & Cheney made for him – even though it's true.
Obama is a POLITICIAN, not a leader. Sarah Palin is a Leader, not a politician.
But the trailer was "sponsored" by the Democrats–so it was the Democratic view of what would happen with Palin in office, which of course would be a worldwide calamity.
well maybe skits like this will finally wake up the youngsters that put this fool in office to begin with. They might be figuring out he isn't the Wizard and this isn't Emerald City.
The sooner one can get out of anything dollar related, the less you lose.

$800 Billion? If only we owed that little. Of course, we would owe some 10 billion a year LESS if we stopped our welfare payments to that country that murdered Americans on the USS Liberty.
Whoever wrote this skit has balls! That's a good thing.
The skit is funny but SNL does it now after the Asian summit only because coming from the Chinese the criticism isn't a real threat (they think). For months now these same criticisms haven't been deemed funny enough for a skit because they've been voiced by American conservatives, a hated and feared tribe – the real enemy. But the left loves and admires the Chicoms. SNL isn't changing its stripes.
I do think it was more of a shot at Obama, especially when they brought Michelle into the fray at the end. I actually cringed a bit when she was mentioned in the way she was. Then I remembered what she, her husband and their ilk are doing to the country and came to my senses again. They should be in prison.
Palin is a leader? Cheerleader maybe. And i'm a conservative, just don't believe that a gal who ran a snowmobile shop a few short years ago should be qualified to lead the free world just because she's hot.
and she is hot.
Everyone seems to ignore, on a far too frequent basis, that Palin in no lightweight, especially compared to Obama, whose only claim to fame during 18 months in the Senate, was to vote Present the majority of the time. Palin actually ran a State Government and a small city in Alaska; and negotiated oil deals on her State's behalf using common sense. It's interesting that all the "investigative reporters" and fact checkers never proved even a hint of corruption with Palinj, but they and the MSM are conspicuously absent when it comes to SEIU and Acorn as the corrupt buddies of Obama.
Bob, why label yourself? There are many things we represent in our lives to be proud of, but extremism probably isn't one of those things. That's the biggest problem with our corrupt politicians, no common sense just ideology. But I have hope for you, Bob. Your post indicates that you can see the big picture, so why not join the "party" of common sense? Politicians are corrupt and only care about your ideology when they want your vote and your money.
Snl finally is tired of Bush. Obama makes an easy target but the cowardly media had to probably get permission from the WH before airing it.
Shows like SNL helped put a Communist into the White House. May their advertising revenues go to hell.
Great to hear from lala land. in the 20 years they effectively ran this country..the republicans then by your reason are responsible for taking us from a five trillion dollar a year economy to a 14 trillion dollar a year economy. From that perspective only a half-wit or a dumb-ass would consider those tax cuts moronic. Now, in the three years democrats have ineffectiveily ran the coutnry, we've seen the genius of liberal economic policies: raising the minimum wage almost 40% in the face of economic downturn, moronically adding three trillion dollars to our National Debt and producing no jobs, or economic growth with it. And BTW, 85% of our country was convered by a health care system that delivered goods and services. What we are going to get from these socialist half-wits is lines, rationing, and shortages. FUBHO.
If she was black and wanted to spend tomorrow every dollar your grandchildren will ever make in their life, she would be touted as a super-genius.
Oh, now 8 years has suddenly increased to 20. Never mind that your narcissist hero has quadrupled the deficit of $454 Billion left by Bush to a astronomical $1.4 Trillion in just 7 months of his ill-gotten office. I think you also left out 8 years of slick Willie and his dithering stick in the Oval Office. Little said about the fact that Obama's visit to Japan was a fiasco. Many quietly snickering behind the scenes in Tokyo about how childish and ineffective the Man-boy is.
They should have done a skit about Obama's visit to Japan instead. Sources close and within that affair are secretly amuzed at Obama's Man-boy demeanor and to what extent he was un-impressive. In fact, the Japanese high government officials were apparently angered by his rudeness and arrogance. No surprise here for me. I saw this fraud the first time I saw him on television. He should be working Sundays behind a pulpit, …..and not running our country.
"We have 1.25 billion uninsured and we don't owe anyone any money." That's more than an idle shot.
It's still not funny. When are they going to cancel this show?
Liberals argue emotion, never never facts. Sarah has more executive experience than bo has had. Community organizer, crud. Sarah had an 80% approval rating in Alaska until the lame stream media decided to trash her. She took on repubs and dems both. Ran Alaska's energy dept. succesfully. You don't hear of Alaska having financial problems like Mich., Ore., and california. AP sends out 11 reporters to fact check her book, didn't send out 1 to check bo's. If libs played FB they would expect to have 11 on offense while the opponent could only have 2 on defense. Actually the defense went to the locker room and the libs scored 3 plays later.
Then how about because she believes in cutting taxes and being careful about how she spends taxpayer dollars?
That's the closest to funny SNL has been since it began.
I am stunned they did it.
Maybe someone over there grew a pair.
"…while I detected a bit of a possible, mildly fiscal conservative bias…"
Bob! You say that as if there is something wrong with "fiscal conservatism." Is it so wrong that our government be responsible to those they work for.
And if you oppose "fiscal conservatism" then I suppose you support "irreponsible liberalism." And if you support irresponsible spending, especially of this magnatude, then I suppose you think this recession is the greatest thing since sliced bread and you look forward, with baited breath, to the economic demise of the United States. 10.5% unemployment is not good enough for you, you want 100% unemployment.
I suppose you also like to watch traffic fatalities happen.
Palin has more experience now than Obama has NOW and she has something else Obama does not have, Common Sense and a love for her country.
I thought much the same about the 2012 skit except there was a line in there about it being "from the mind of Keith Olberman", or some such. The end of the world would be exactly how Olberman and the other MSNBC wackos would view a Palin presidency, or any other Republican presidency.
I got a laugh out of the opening skit. I diid think it was a little ironic that in a skit involving the leader of China and the first black American president Obama was played by the only current SNL male performer with an Asian heritage.
I wonder if they will have a Fact-Check session with Wolf Blitzer on this video, too?
Well said!
"Sarah Palin is a Leader, not a politician."
Last time I checked, the position in question falls under the category of "public SERVANT," not "leader"…
Swap Palin and Beck with Obama and Biden, and I think they pretty well pegged how a majority of the country feels right about now.
"and she has something else Obama does not have, Common Sense and a love for her country."
And while lovely, in terms of practical application, those two things plus a dollar will buy her a McDouble
For SNL… this is significant. For late night comedy in general, it's significant. Hey–they beat up on Obama a little, then they beat up on Palin. That's how it SHOULD be. I don't tune into SNL expecting not to be offended. That's what they do. But I also don't tune in to see one side propped up over another side, week in, week out, year after year.
Go after the LEFT AND RIGHT, SNL… EQUALLY…. and you'll actually be FUNNY, and RELEVANT.
I think that out of all the political "openers" this season of SNL has had, this was genuinely funny, and a pretty good dig at Obama, way more substantial than the "why won't our savior hurry up with our favorite policies?" report-card sketch that spawned the CNN fact check. And 100X funnier than the horrible "The Rock" Obama one they had the following week… good lord.
Comedy is funny when it's true. Comedy by the state, that is meant to brainwash, is never funny. It's only awakward and disturbing.
So, SNL did good this week. Let's hope it's not an anomaly.
Keep us updated for when the new CNN fact check goes online.
The first "doing sex to me" part had me rolling on the floor! Watch the woman playing the interpreter as she tries not to laugh. Who knew SNL could actually be funny?
I don't know, I thought it exposed Obama for the empty suit he really is.
And I'm surprised he didn't bow at some point.
pretty lame and repulsive – a far cry from humor, and I don't think Anyone in America should be making fun of Chinese leaders, lest they call in their loan to save face
I'm being told that the second video was 'removed by user' – others seeing the same thing?
at the rate obama is destroying our economy, only the rich and union leaders will be able to afford even that.
What a surprise! MovieBob doesn't value common sense. Explains a lot.
Agreed. I thought it was a very healthy shot at Obama and the Democrats plans to pay off debt by spending more money. Even better, SNL managed to go 6+ minutes and not manage to slip in a "blame Bush" comment.
Quite right! The numbers have become so mind-numbingly large and oft repeated that they have lost meaning. When I was a kid, we only used the word "trillion" when discussing astronomy.
$800 Billion or $1.4 Trillion, it's kind of all the same anymore to the American ear.
Out of the four people on the presidential tickets last year, Palin was the ONLY one with executive government experience. Governor of a state is the closest related position to the presidency and she was the ONLY one with it on her resume. Senators are nothing but schmoozers.
If Sarah did run a snowmobile shop a few years ago, so what? We could use someone in Washington who knows a thing or two about running a small business. That's worth a lot more than sitting on one's ass in Congress decade after decade.
You voted for Obama…'nuff said. Thank you for contributing to the pain and suffering this country is now dealing with.
You are correct. Back in the 1970s they thought "bell bottoms" and "platform shoes" were cool. Same idiots from back then…only older.
Get over this "conservative win" crap. This is the tool used by both sides to get us to this point. Since Bill Clinton's admin this partisan bickering has been used to build the largest divide in this country I have ever seen in my lifetime. I am sick of it.
Sarah is popular but I think it is more for the strong sense of family values she puts forth. Good moral, traditional family values. As for the leader on a national level I'm still listening. However, I would have loved for this woman to be my mom.
The Dude…I doubt you are conservative from your post. Sarah Palin hasn't shown leadership on a presidential level because she has been unable to. I for one would like to hear more from her so I could make an opinion but everytime she is interviewed or written about she is attacked with many things that have been distorted or are just simply untrue. Yet your hero obie was never once question on his actual acquaintances that should have been raising eyebrows off everyone's head. To me it is no surprise obie is running the country into the ground. His record showed that he would. Hillary would have looked like Reagan compared to that clown obie.
I think the second video is removed because of all the copyright stuff involved—it was a mashup of the trailer for the movie "2012", so that's probably why it got pulled. They did the same thing for a sketch of "Say Anything", where the host held up the boom-box playing the Peter Gabriel song. That sketch never made it to hulu either.
There was a man who did an Obama take-off in Kia commercials last year. The actor was pretty good. I'm surprised we haven't seen more of him.
So, you think the city of Wasilla or the state of Alaska is a snowmobile shop?
Would it win your vote if she had been a "consultant" for a criminal organization, I mean, a community organizer for ACORN?
The biggest obstacle Gov. Palin would face if she were to run for President would be the multitude of urbane wits like you, Dude, and of course, the back biting cow set that include the likes of Behar, Winfrey, Noonan, Stewart, etc.

Spot on!!….great post……
Yeah, gotta dig up the dead ones, too!
Over the past 20 years, (1989-2009) there were only 2 of the 8 years in which the GOP had control of both the Legislative and Executive, and 3 for the Dems. Now, with all of the hype about how the GOP created the debt from the left, why is it that in one year, the Democratic controlled House, Senate and White House have racked up triple the deficit of any single year in history? And the spending is not done.
Now, that said, I am not a Republican, either. I am a Libertarian, and, quite frankly, BOTH wings of the Big Government party are a little too used to using our credit cards to pay for their ideas.
Amen, lil amae….
YES it is…..for someone to FINALLY put your chosen master in the light he really is in..which happens to be total darkness void of anything solid….
I think its Halarious…..as a matter of fact, I woke my wife and older son to view it…..
They loved it too!!…..
LOOK……..theres two kinds of people in this world…..people who have common sense and people that cant wipe their ass with a newspaper…..
Some people are born fools…and theyll die fools…..and I hope your journey of ignorance is fine for you…fool…
BTW……I Blame You…..because you voted for this inept clown….Sonja……."P"..
Actually I think the SNL management does not want to get it too close as the knife may cut a little deep and ruin some careers. I must say I am shocked that this made on air as it way more accurate then most MSNBC reporting
Bob, why do you make the novice mistake of painting in an if McCain or who ever else you want to place in the place of the Obama? We live in a here and now world. Here and now, Obama is president. So the slight of hand is directed towards him.
I think he died.
I remember SNL crucifying Al Gore during the 2000 election. The writers there have to be ecstatic with the amount of material Obama is delivering to them, and it seems they're starting to grow a pair and use it.
That's the TEA Party, right? Surely you're not saying that the GOP is the party of common sense? (Just checking!)
Mick Huckabee had a comedian on a couple of weeks ago who had Obama absolutely nailed. SNL needs to find him and hire him.
I'm not sure how peo. can see this sketch as anything but slamming Obama and his policies (about time). It seems clear to me. SNL should have a skit where Obama comes into the Oval Office and just starts bowing to everything, his chair, the plants, his dog. I mean this guy's definitely a parvenu. BUT, what's even more shocking than SNL slamming Obama is that the skit was considered humorous. Our culture is becoming so dumb!
I think you missed the point. Let me replace the names, and then maybe you'll understand what Nosno was trying to say.
Clinton was a POLITICIAN, not a leader. Ronald Reagan was a Leader, not a politician.
Why is the Palin/Beck blurb removed from YouTube or anywhere else that I can find. Any ideas where I can see it?
This skit was a small (very small) start. But don't delude yourselves, none of the cable or letter channels will actually go against Obama and his Chicago/Commie crew in the near future. It will have to get really, really bad before that happens.
And I'm afraid it will, the economy is being held up by Chinese money right now and being spent at a breakneck speed. When it is all gone and the Chinese will not loan anymore…..
It will all come crashing down.
Be prepared, get prepared, because the worse is yet to come.

This is a complete and utter mockery of the American public.
SNL (and every other media outlet in the world) has had an abundance of anti-Obama material ever since the guy announced his candidacy for POTUS.
All throughout the campaign in 2008 they completey ignored all his horrible associations, political gaffes, and suspect voting record. With all the great impersonators available, they can't even manage to get someone to actually make fun of the guy's mannerisms, let alone his complete political ineptitude.
Plain and simple, SNL is as liberal and pro-Obama as the network they air on. They didn't make fun of Obama during the campaign because it wasn't "cool." Now that his approval ratings have been steadily falling through the floor and he's at 49% (isn't that a record for a President in his first year?), they finally take a "sort've shot" at him.
They are finally portraying what has been obvious to the rest of the country for over a year.
It's too little, too late.
Their ratings are slipping, their network is the laughing stock of the news world, and this shows why.
They can't even manage to isolate Obama in this episode, they have to do the "oh-so-typical-and-predictable" Palin smear while they're at it.
This is pathetic.
I thought the 2012 trailer was funny, regardless of politics. She's in the news this week, so is the movie, and it makes sense to combine the two. The four big laughs hit the mark ("She's not qualified" in subtitles, Biden's slo-mo "OH SH*T", VP Glen Beck, and even though it went by really fast, the motorhome with the Obama banner.).
SNL's job is to poke fun at current news and pop culture, and they delivered on that one.
The "lock box" skit comes to mind.
This is the funniest SNL sketch in years. I laughed so hard I cried. I bet the real Obama thought it was funny too. He seems to have a sense of humor.
If experience was important to voters, John McCain would be President. If we've learned anything from Obama's election, Palin will only have to spout the right buzzwords and platitudes ad nauseum and she'll be in like flynn.
i'd like to hope that they would be excited, but they have missed the boat continuously…
with the bowing and teleprompters alone, Obama's name should be mud for the rest of recorded history….
Marijane – gee, where were you when Bush was savagely attacked by SNL, the MSM and every cable show talking head, while the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan were going full throttle? And the obama team has the country being run by unelected, unvetted, unquestioned, and unqualified czars. Where is the Constitution with this WH?
Corp – I agree. No one could do more to ruin this country than BHO has already done. Have you noticed that the more the demorats and their MSM stooges hate on Palin, the more popular she gets. Maybe there's something going on here that they don't understand? (paraphrase from Mickey Rourke in movie Diner)
Give SNL credit, it is not what it could be, not even that funny, but it is a long way from were they were a few months ago and will be considered sacreligious by the likes of MSNBC.
Bob,
The debt explosion in America is a relatively recent phenomenon … It has more to do with Greenspan in the late 90's (and the Fed) then Republican or Democratic leadership. The issue now revolves around the fact that foreigners will demand higher interest rates for our future debt, making future budget deficits exponentially more costly.
That's what they said about Harry Truman.
That line was brilliant.
"This same sketch could have undoubtedly been written and been almost equally funny if John McCain were now president "
BUT HE WASN'T!!!!! Idiot!
