When I think of Tony Perkins, I think Psycho, Fear Strikes Out, and Green Mansions.
I recall Norman's mother…
She wasn't a very pretty woman.
Ha! I just realized who the alpha male is: it's Michelle! Not Barack…
In your guts you know he's nuts.
America Held Hostage-The Obama Administration Day 666
Only 1160 days until our long, national nightmare is over.
am I correct that Perkins never could shake the Bates character and got type cast? Was it because of his sexuality?
Our obsequent president got a scolding from Miss Manners: "Never mix a bow with a handshake!"
20 years ago, I knew Tony Perkins. He was a customer of mine when I sold music and classic films at the Rose Bowl swap meet every month. Extremely nice guy. It was very odd to be talking to a star of that magnitude and to hear him addressing you by your first name. (I could never see my way clear to calling him "Tony". It was always "Mr. Perkins".) Very amiable, he would stop and chat and shop while his wife was wandering around elsewhere.
He never bought movies from me. Only music. And we had something in common – we had both worked in record stores in our youth, he in Boston. He observed that you became able to tell what a specific LP was when they were filed 'library style' with the spines out by merely seeing bits of color, design and type on the visible 1/8 of an inch….and that was totally true!
He'd usually be wearing a causal hat and dark glasses and you would never recognize him walking with the tens of thousands of people there.
He kind of snuck up on me one time when I was not looking up and we began a conversation for about 30 seconds until I recognized his voice. "Mr. Perkins. Is that you?". "Yeah" and he laughed.
He was always a pleasure to deal with. Just a down home kind of guy who made it big.
He was in some great films and he had a good singing voice, too. He sang in some of his movies and he recorded at least a couple of LPs.
Psycho is obviously the film for which he is most identified and after awhile it was the only film he was remembered for, but there was TALL STORY and FRIENDLY PERSUASION, too.
Makes me feel nostalgic.
Actually, he married later in life and had two children.
I agree with Tammy Bruce on her review of Avatar movie. Won't see leftie show!
Do the Obamahandlers realize the consequences of trying KSM in a civilian court where he will be found not guilty because the prosecution is unable to prove his guilt without a doubt, or is it the intent of the Obamahandlers to see that KSM goes free despite their claims of wanting the death penalty for him?

Thanks for sharing, LB. A touching story of a true movie STAR.
I've said it before but, people don't like being insulted or to hear somone insult their country and way of life.
The constant barrage from hollywood turns people off.
The newest thing that capitalism is a trap or slavery? Every one knows that capitalism can make you rich. the hollywood morons who rail against it really don't understand that they are biting the hand that feeds them.
So be it.
Once upon a time Jim Carrey wrote himself a post dated check for $10 Million. Now he claims that capitalism is wrong. Sorry man, no more. You are boycotted. Now I'm jst one person. but it seems that a lot of "one persons" are doing the same thing for a long list of people.
If these guys just want to have half of the potential audience, fine. I await the Hollywood or Flyover Studios or whatever that is willing to go after the other half.
Why is it when Obama embarrasses us in front of the rest of the world, he doesn't see it that way? Is the guy too dense to know proper protocol, or does he actually aim to undermine the power of the US at every turn? Why does he think we must look weak to the rest of the world?
*sigh*, I think you guys should see this: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43097
ooo cutting edge
I make a prediction: Cancelled mid season.
LOL @ the "GQ names Obama Leader of The Year" ..is that real? I mean, seriously..leadership from the one doesn't exist.
Sounds like an Onion headline.
If so I'd have to say it's his eyes. They just look spooky.
I believe the Obama administration knows exactly what it's doing. And it's not good at all.

I think the issue is, people who earn boat loads of money for reading words written by some one else in front of a camera, never have to work hard enough to gain the wisdom that comes from trial and error, and struggling for their own survival.
In other words, they just don't think enough to figure out basic common sense.
My opinion, Barack Obama is more concerned with how others view him. So he can't be bothered to realize he's the leader of the free world.
If it makes it that far.
The Obama's draw eye balls, which advertisers crave. So as long as he sells, he'll be every where.
It's going to be interesting to watch him react when his picture actually begins to repel viewers and the MSM drops him.

How fitting that his last big show was called "Get A Life."
Sorry, already there. Been there since the campaign.
You and me both–I'm not just sick of his ever-present image, but his voice! Does he ever stop talking?
"A boy's best friend is his mother" "We all go a little mad sometimes." Great Norman Bates' lines.

Does anyone remember seeing Anthony Perkins on Saturday Night Live? He did a very funny commercial for "The Norman Bates School of Hotel Management". Students would take a multiple choice quiz to determine their aptitude and every single question ended with, "C. Hack her to death with a butcher knife."
Its nice to see they have a way to report fraud, waste and abuse under the contact us header. How would they react if we reported their fraudulent reporting of jobs saved, waste of taxpayer's money, and abuse of power to pass this bucket o' cr@p.
Those are good movies. How about Murder on the Orient Express? What a cast that movie had!
Oh, I'd love to see that! "Psycho" is possibly my favorite movie ever.
To Youtube!
Keep your eyes on this, just in case the libs try sending another democrat to the House from this district.
Conservative 'unconcedes' in NY US House race
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – A Conservative Party candidate has withdrawn his concession in a close special election for a U.S. House seat, and New York election officials are beginning to count paper ballots.

I remember that bit quite well. It was hilarious. I like to think that Perkins didn't mind being identified with the character of Norman Bates and realized that he had created a genuinely immortal screen character. He always seems to be a genuinely witty, modest and self-deprecating man.
Perhaps Norman could become Oprahbamas hotel Czar!…..maybe?
I hate that now whenever I see or read about Anthony Perkins, a small part of my mind always remembers that his widow was killed on 9/11.
You're welcome. I have met a few stars of his era and they have unfailingly been exceptionally pleasant to me, just a humble shop keep once upon a time.
I was watching the ABC series "Castle" a few weeks ago -actually, watching the DVR of it. I have only seen 5 or so episodes, but have generally enjoyed them – I am a fan of Nathan Fillion.
During the episode, a question came up about the unknown contents of a package that was hijacked before it could be delivered (this was the plot device for this episode). In speculating about what could be in the package, the lead character offered one theory that it could have contained "Cheney's soul on the way to hell" (I am paraphrasing here; don't recall the exact quote).
BAM!! Takes me right out of the plot. WHY, WHY, WHY!!! I couldn't even finish watching. This wasn't even funny? And can you ever in your lifetime imagine a joke like that at Biden's, Pelosi's or (gasp!) BHO's? Never happen.
And the sad part is, I LIKE THE SHOW!!! But, if I am going to have to always be waiting for the sucker punch, I guess I'll have to stick with The Mentalist and Psych for my dramedy needs – until they do the same thing….
JoeKid, "Never mix a bow with a handshake."
Never mix a President with being a leader.
i didn't realize that
wow
Open thread – so in addition to Tony Perkins, I'd like to mention a non-star, but steadily working actor – the character actor Joe Campanella. If he is still working he is closing in on 60 years of film and television. Never a star, but one of the most familiar faces and voices ever.
He would stop into the store and was a big fan of old westerns. He was as nice and friendly as can be unfailingly. Folks might not notice him when they came in thew store and he was there, but as soon as he began to speak, people turned around.
Also – great family man, WW2 vet, committed member of his church always doing stuff for free for them, readings and recordings and such. He even did an impromptu commercial for my store which he said I could use in my ads. That would have cost me thousands of dollars to have him do it in a studio. Sadly, they were doing a floor removal next store and the jackhammering noise was awful.
One time there was a FUGITIVE convention here in LA, so I called the promoter and asked him if he was interested in having Joe as a speaker b/c Joe was in some key episodes, including the finale. They said, "Yes!" I called Joe and told him and he said "Sure". He went with his wife and he said he had a great time and saw some fellow actors and actresses that he had not seen in 30 – 40s years….and a free meal!
It's been maybe ten years since I spoke with him, so I hope his elder years are going well for him.
Anyway – Joe Campanella – one heck of a nice gent.

"Will the evil of communism ever come to an end?"—Peter Cushing, 1973 interveiw
I wonder what Mr. Cushing (my favorite actor) would think of the world today.
I think of Friendly Persuasion and the Black Hole . . . after I think of Psycho and it's (lame) sequels.
It was last week's episode. You've got the quote just about exact. I was disappointed because it's been completely free of politics until then and it was totally unnecessary. I'm still watching, but with some distance between myself and the show.
NBC Green Week mini-report: Heroes had their entry last night, but they weren't exactly playing ball. This season's villain was throwing bags of aluminum cans onto a truck and he said, "With all that this green earth has given us, it's nice to give something back." He had "kidnapped" Hiro's girlfriend, so Hiro replies, "Why don't you give me Charlie back?"
I'm under no illusion that the people behind Heroes are anything but standard Hollywood lefties, but I get the sense they don't care for the Green Week meddling.
Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell (from Burn Notice) visit the troops:

Thanks L.B. I found that post quite interesting, as I always like Mr. Campenella too. I remember him being in a lot of 70's series i.e. "One Day at a Time," and others too numerous to mention. He just seemed to be everywhere. I'm glad to hear that he is a nice man.
If I may inquire, what store that you saw him are you speaking of?
That was a great movie, although for some reason I don't immediately associate A.P. with it.
Friendly Persuasion is a great call. My list was made from the first three that jumped to mind without looking at a filography and interestingly were from the late 50's. I probably tend to associate Coop more with Friendly Persuasion, as well as Dorothy Maguire, but A.P. was excellent as well. Those three films were all among the first I remember as a young kid. Of course, because of the baseball connection, I really enjoyed Fear Strikes Out.
I don't recall GQ ever doing a "Leader of the Year" article in the past…can't say I'm surprised though, if it's brand new.
It's just a shot in character. He was actually very pleasant looking.

That's right. I forgot he was in ODAATime. He did a lot of television and he is still working!

I had a video store that specialized in classic films. Closed since 2001, though. Good memories. All sorts of customers from the famous to the obscure, all races, genders, political persuasions, economic levels, etc. all there for their love of classic movies.
I wasn't suggesting he wasn't.
The fact that he can turn "that look" on was sufficient.
Ok, why nothing on Palin's book today? —its a book–falls under the category of the ARTS–isn't that what this site is about? Or are there too many men running the show around here that are miffed at the popularity or something. Heck, Daily Beast has 6 articles (none nice of course) about here on their front page as we at this moment . GIVE HER THE NOTICE SHE IS DUE!! The conservative blogs ought to be saying something supportive about it, after all the book and the woman both deserve it.
TONY PERKINS
And there was PRETTY POISON which people were raving about in 1968. I saw it ages ago and not since and I remember it as VERY different.
And TUESDAY WELD, now mostly forgotten, but at the time – holy smokin'!

My favorite Tony Perkins movie: Friendly Persuasion. I thought he was a vgood actor and was very handsome. It was a nice suprise seeing his face tonight. Very sad about his wife Berry losing her life on 9-11.
