Every so often, my father-in-law, Angelo, will bust my chops saying, “Hey, Mike! I talked to a real Marine today!” Then he’ll clap me on the shoulder and chuckle in that Jersey City “you’re a good kid” kind of way. Full disclosure: I served for four...

.More Than Ever, You Can Say That on Television
LOS ANGELES — On many nights this fall, it has been possible to tune in to broadcast network television during prime time and hear a character call someone else a “douche.”
In just the last several weeks, it has happened on CBS’s “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” which are broadcast at 8 p.m., during what used to be known as the family hour. It has been heard this fall on Fox’s new series “The Cleveland Show,” which begins at 8:30, and on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” On NBC, its use has spanned the old and the new, blurted out on the freshman comedy “Community” and the seasoned drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Ms. Kockenlocker, I presume
I'm afraid I found this version of "Annie Get Your Gun" pretty rough sledding. Nothing like enduring an Obama press conference or anything, but still…
I want an Oba Mao t-shirt (him wearing the red army uniform).
It is priceless the "market" in china read BHO correctly, but the MSM totally missed it.
It takes one to know one. The "street" in China recognized BHO as one of their own.
Nothing better than a cute girl who knows how to shoot.
Is this Sarah Palin's Grandmother?
Yeah, it's real.
PRESIDENT OBAMA MEETS WITH TAX-EVADING LAIEN
http://naturalfake.wordpress.com/2009/11/13/presi...
Uhh,
LAIEN = ALIEN
I love Betty Hutton! One of my favorite movies is Preston Sturgess' "Miracle at Morgan's Creek."
Thanks. You too.
I believe it was originally supposed to star Judy Garland, but she was going through one of her rough patches at the time, so Louis B. Mayer fired her. Some film still exists of a few scenes that Judy did shoot. I like Betty Hutton, but Judy would have been wonderful in the part.
Please…let's not even talk about Reba McIntire…
Picturing Reba McIntire with a gun brings back memories of her character in Tremors (with Kevin Bacon). She was so perfect in that. Raising three boys, I bet we watched that movie a hundred times!
Great flick! Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!!
I was just on the FoxNews website. They have these big pictures of Charles Manson, OJ Simpson and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed with the caption "Trial of the Century". They're musing about whether Mohammed's trial will rival the infamous trials of the past century. Seems like they forgot about that little court date in Nurenberg back in the forties.
The difference is the Nurenburg defendants didn't have the ACLU, the ABA, congress, a herd of movie star apologists and a few $trillion petrodollars on their side, so they don't count. Plus that was serious business, done by serious men.
Leopold and Loeb, the Lindbergh Kidnapping trial, Peaches Browning…all obscure now, but at the time each were called the trial of the century. I think the KSM upcoming trial belongs in a different category because 1) it is not a salacious celebrity trial and 2) it will have a lasting profound effect upon our country.
Betty Hutton is a panic!
I enjoyed her in "Annie Get Your Gun" and I had not expected to like the film at all. (I've seen the Garland footage – she sounds fine, but she looks awful; shrunken and pale.)
Betty Hutton was a dynamo as many of her films illustrate – especially the choice early ones. Last time I checked, someone had uploaded the entire feature film – THE FLEET'S IN – on to Youtube. (It's never been on any sort of video and I guess people got tired of waiting.)
Her sister, Marion Hutton, sang with Glenn Miller's band from 1938 – 1942 and, at the time, was far better known than Betty was. Just coincidentally, as the Miller band broke up in 1942 and Marion's star began to descend, Betty's star began to wildly ascend..
Betty Hutton seems to connect well with younger fans of today who enjoy her almost manic energy, good cheer and general wackiness. She had Personality with a capital "P".
THE FLEET'S IN – Bigtime fun with Betty Hutton, Bill Holden, Eddie Bracken (From WallyWorld!), Dorothy Lamour and Jimmy Dorsey and his orchestra.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tSLG2opEn0 – Part one
Betty enters in Part 4 at the 3 minute mark and then goes into her first number a minute or so later.

The White House reports:
Once again, Obama was not showing subservience to a foreign dignitary. It only appears that he is bowing to the Japanese emperor, just like what happened when he met the Saudi King, he saw something on the floor and was stooping to get a better look.
Obama is an embarrassment.
And since this is an open thread… It almost 'Holiday' tree time:
http://motorcitytimes.com/mct/too-afraid-to-use-t...
The KSM trial will be an absolute circus.
Ah yes, nothing like putting up the old Holiday tree to make lasting memories.
Betty Hutton! Amazing talent. A stunning career derailment.
Fast-forward her 30 years…she would've been dazzling as a reality show star.
Why doesn't obama just lick everyones feet and get it over with already. Put us all out of our misery and just kick the bucket or something. Geez, who the freak loads his teleprompter anyway, Jethro Clampett?
Well I'm not really referring to the KSM trial, more about how the media sensationalizes things like Manson and O.J. They were trivial compared to things like Nurenberg. They shouldn't be so reckless when throwing around the word "century". It's kind of an insult to all the people who endured the Nazi's rampage.
You can't say "Holiday" tree time. It's divisive for those who don't believe in holidays. Or trees.
Sarc/off
please, no kicking the bucket for obama…you do know who'd be prez then, right? lol
A social clod…
I don't think I'd mind Biden as much as I do obama..Of course if something happened to Biden then queen nancy would get the spot. Triple Barf O Rama!
Oops, I meant to have that last post as a reply to your comment.
I was agreeing with you, AJ. The phrase "Trial of the Century" is about as overused as "diva" and "tolerance." Constant use has trivialized it until it means nothing. You're right. The Nuremburg Trials are a lasting statement to the will and determination to defeat a common enemy, the Nazi's. The KSM trial should be the same, but alas, I fear it will be a disaster for our country.
Wouldn't be Jethro – he had too much sense to bow when it wasn't required. Mr. Drysdale would bow in a NY minute if he thought it would get him an account.
Would SOMEBODY PLEASE, tie Obama to a full body-board before he meets with foreign dignitaries?
A full spinal fusion wouldn't help; he could still pivot at the hips…
And when the people would like him to "bow" to public pressure and retract health care?
Ohh, jeez, PLEASE…</sarc>
Steve, in your comments you said "It also is a systematic and deliberate effort to erase Judao-Christian heritage and traditions from our nation. "
That was done a couple decades ago when they stopped allowing manger scenes ion the public square or (God forbid) Menorahs atop the light posts or a mere cross marking a grave in a cemetery.
He is not licking EVERYONE's feet. Only those who hate America or have vaulted him to the top.
I don't wish him death, but I do hope American's rediscover their backbone and a recentering on what this country is, was and should be in the future. I take heart in the tea party movement and get a good chuckle when the left derides them.
President Obama bowing?
No way wingnuts!

AP:0bama pleads for lawmakers to delay Fort Hood investigation and “resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into political theater.”
0bama delays everything…except for his decision to bring 9/11 terrorists back to NYC for a civilian trial.
Then again, 0bama just said he’s against “political theatre”.
I guess he couldn’t “resist the temptation”.
What a lying fu**ing hypocrite!
And Hillary's in the number 4 position. Just one delight after another, huh?
I spent a year living in Japan in the late 1990s and when I came back, it was clear how much television had coarsened in that year. It's the slow-boiling frog effect. A little at a time. Then a little more. And a little more.
Of course I suppose I add point out that television had been there before, in the late 1970s before the Reagan administration, where it was possible to see quite a bit of nudity, including full frontal nudity, on PBS (e.g., I, Claudius and Therese Raquin on Masterpiece Theater) that people see to have missed or forget. Things like this aren't on a ratchet as their advocates claim. They can be changed and reversed.
Got to hand it to the Obama handlers–put KLM on trial in a civilian court with constitutional rights, Obama can claim he did the right thing, the Islamic radicals are satisfied, and KLM walks.
And guaranteed, KLM WILL WALK. Which is the whole reason for trying him in a NYC civilian court in the first place. Obama's just takin' care of his buds.

I wonder why Anita Dunn does not think ABC is illegitimate? George Stephanopolous hosts their weekend talk. Here is an excerpt of the interview Al Hunt did with Anita Hill. Nicolas Cage loses 2 homes in foreclosure auction
Even Academy Award winners are suffering from financial woes this recession. Actor Nicolas Cage lost two homes in New Orleans worth a total of $6.8 million in a foreclosure auction Thursday.
Birmingham, Ala.-based Regions Bank purchased Cage's 1140 Royal Street property in the French Quarter appraised at $3.5 million for $2.3 million. The bank, which has about 1,900 branches throughout the South, Midwest and Texas, paid $2.2 million for Cage's 2523 Pataniya Street property appraised at $3.3 million in the Garden District.
New Orleans's civil Sheriff Paul Valteau said no other bids were made on the houses.

Did I say something to offend anyone ?
How low will the new American president go for the world’s royalty?
This photo will get Democrat President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. Very low bows like this are a sign of great respect and deference for a superior.
Seven months ago, the White House insisted that Obama didn’t bow to Saudi King Abdullah, understanding the terrible breach in presidential protocol that it represented. They tried to tell reporters that Obama was picking something up off the floor, which the video clearly shows was a lie (at the link). Take a look at the picture of Obama’s bow to the son of Hirohito. Do you see anything on that immaculate floor that requires retrieval?

Bombshell: Uncovered Obama Statement — KSM Will Get ‘Full Military Trial’
"Justice will be carried out in his case."
http://www.breitbart.tv/bombshell-uncovered-obama...
/Justice ? For Who ?
His Islamic Overlords ?
Obama bows to other leaders and cowtows to dictators, while,we the people, bend over and grab the ankles.
What a wonderful world. What is up is down, what is down is up!
Obama shouldn't bow any lower to a Japanese person than they do to him. Bowing lower is like saying "I'm below you on the totem pole."
he wasnt bowing, he was hoping someone would kiss his as*
In other words: sweep it under the rug
I agree that this started decades ago and now they are going for total surrender.
Yes, Obama is making Carter look better every day. This is quite an "accomplishment" in itself
When will Obama EVER do anything that is good for America–the country he is the leader of? This whole 9-11 Trial in civilian court is just another low…
Obama–the worst. President. Ever. Ever.
Anyday with College Football is a GREAT DAY.
Limbaugh: 'Rogue' Is 'Truly One Of The Most Substantive Policy Books I've Read'
RUSH: Yesterday afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, I interviewed Governor Palin for the upcoming issue of the Limbaugh Letter. It will be our cover story. I think it was the first time other than an interview with me — sometimes I do interview myself in the newsletter because the best questions I ever get asked are the ones I ask myself. But she's the cover story, she's the interview, and she will behere live on the radio next Tuesday, the day her book is released, at the top of the second hour. I talked to her yesterday, I've got the book, I have it right over there and I've had a chance, I just got it a couple days ago, three days ago, and I've had a chance to go through it, and I made a prediction to her when I talked to her yesterday.

/Palin is still more qualified to be Vice Prsident or POTUS than the man child that is there now
Justice Denied
War On Terror: Eric Holder's move to try the 9/11 masterminds in Manhattan makes it official: This administration has reverted to pre-9/11 "crime" fighting.
Amid all the talk during the attorney general's surreal press conference of the "crime" committed eight years ago, the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon wasn't even mentioned.
This will only serve to inspire more homegrown terrorists — and stab at the hearts of the relatives of 9/11 victims.
Holder clucked that the "trials will be open to the public and the world." And they will turn into circuses, playing right into the hands of the enemy.

Even tho the movie PRECIOUS got slammed here . . . there is a scene where Precious' teachers asks her what she's going to do with her life, how is she going to support herself and kids?
Precious shrugs and says 'Welfare. That's what my mother did.' The teacher says sarcastically, 'And how did that work out?'
The movie is dark and harsh. But so is the welfare mentality. The movie also very Pro-Life if anyone is interested.

Oh, like the photo op of Obama greeting the recently returned bodies of soldiers? The ones whose families mostly denied him the photo-taking?
Your fly was open.
speaking of John Payne who you eloquently weighed in on a week or so ago, just saw Maugham's 'The Razor's Edge' with Ty Power and Payne who was just fine- and a really good film as well…
This sounds horrible, but I get the feeling I could see most of the story of "Precious" just by watching Maury.
She and her sister Marion had all sorts of problems with alcohol later in life which they both worked out. Marion became a psychiatrist, IIRC and Betty found solace in the church and working for others.
Sadly, Betty was estranged from one or more of her daughters for many years. That also resolved itself, though I don't recall if it lasted until she died.
All the on set problems you usually read about Betty seem to come from ANNIE GET YOUR GUN where the pro-Garland crowd too her firing out on Betty.
There are some good Youtube videos of Betty in her later years being interviewed and appearing with her daughter. Some of the interviews are fairly recent.
Betty and Marion seem to have had their sisterly squabbles, but they did do some television and recordings together in thge 50s.
Betty made a lot of people feel happy when the watched her and I don't know how fully she realized that.
Glad you enjoyed it.
John Payne is under-rated b/c, I think, of all the musicals he did in the 40s and for MIRACLE ON 34th STREET, and b/c he made what he did seem so effortless, but he was really very competent….and people liked him. He did an episode of COLUMBO once and he wore the same snap brim fedora that he seems to wear in many of his light-weight FOX films. Nice touch.
I really enjoyed Betty Hutton as Annie Oakley. Saw a few clips of Judy Garland in that role before her illness, she was very good too, but Ms. Hutton did a great job and her portayal stands up well, even now. RE: Obama and bringing the KSM trial to NYC. What do you expect from this guy and his Marxist inner circle. HIs decisions are not based on what is good for America. I believe that he doesn't care one whit for our country, other than what he can strip from it to benefit himself and others who buy into his Marxist vision.
Christian gal in the movies – Helen O'Connell
Helen O'Connell, who sang with Jimmy Dorsey's band and appears in the movie THE FLEET'S IN, is always seen wearing a crucifix on a necklace. Every film and every photograph I have ever seen of her (save one) has that crucifix present.
It was a non-issue back then, but I wonder about today?
SomeDame, "The phrase "Trial of the Century" is about as overused as "diva" and "tolerance."
And "Racist."
Why? Is Obama going to show up in person?
I love Maury because you'd think it would scare some people straight. I think a judge actually sentenced some teen girls to watch the Maury show for that reason.
Yes, wonderful memories of Winter Solstice Holiday time …
Instead of the songs:
“Oh Holy Night”
“Silent Night, Holy Night”
“We Three Kings Of Orient Are”
"Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem”
We’ll be hearing:
“Oh Rally Knight”
“Silent Knight, Obama Knight”
"One D.C. King Of Muslims Are”
"Oh Little Town Of Obamaham”
JoeKidd: "AP: 0bama pleads for lawmakers to delay Fort Hood investigation and “resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into political theater.”
Of course, Hasan had psychological problems … and the police and the military acted "stupidly" — and shot him.
Far better to have political theater than "obama theater."
Oh. wait — aren't they both the same thing?
BTW, did Obama, with Michael in tow, visit Fort Hood personally? President Bush and his wife Laura did!
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/07/george...
oooohhhhh…. so he's just trying to hide a woodie.
If he bent over any further, he'd have fell on his face.
I thought he was shining the emperor's shoe's.
This week, heard a character say, "That poor b*ast*rd" to his young daughter, referring to his mother's date. That should bring up an interesting topic of conversation for families watching "family hour" tv together, huh? It is now routine for network tv to use words formerly found mostly on public restroom stalls.
And suddenly it all makes sense.
I drilled a hole into a Democrat's head so I could get the sap out.
You must have called a Democrat a nice name, that will do it.
We should have done that to KSM when we had the chance.
"The movie also very Pro-Life if anyone is interested."
There is a lot more to Pro Life than not killing a baby.

Well, that rips it! They had a black tie dinner tonight in order to present the honorary Academy Awards, including the Irving Thalberg, to the people that I would actually enjoy watching receive them! Lauren Bacall especially. I guess they think I am going to tune in next March to see Janeane Garofalo or another like her. Maybe…Jane (gag) Fonda…(gagging)… As the Brits say, "Not bloody well likely!"
I think Precious sounds like an admirable film. It's a small independent film. Good luck to it.
