So the religious people should keep their views to themselves, but the athiests don't need to keep their views to themselves. That's the logic you're using. I believe everyone should be who they are, out in the open. Yes, we all need to be respectful and considerate of others, and we (especially myself) need to always work to improve this within ourselves.
As for myself, it is impossible for me to separate my religion from my political views. My concept of human rights comes precisely from my beliefs about God. If my belief in a God Created Soul within every human being ended, human rights most likely wouldn't matter to me. I would never want to force or coerce anyone to follow my religion, but I would never want someone to silence my expression of my religion.
It seems that Obama is toning down the religious tone of this country when he stated that America is not a Chirstian nation. Other governments have done active things to tone down religion, China is the first that comes to mind. One much "nicer" country where religion has been toned down is Norway, where old and terminally ill people are often killed against their will.
I don't mind that he's going to trial–frankly, this should have been done a long time ago–I would just like for it to be on the condition that if he gets the death penalty, the execution will be carried out swiftly and publicly. People sit on death row way too long.

Lemme get this straight — you want people to reduce verbal connections of religion to public life because doing so is more considerate? Isn't being considerate just another way of saying "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" which sounds pretty religious? Your want to keep part of religion (the call to be considerate of the views of others) while you dismiss the religion itself. If you want to be able to call people to considerate behavior (as though that were a general good that we all should adhere to) you have to be willing to embrace the authority of the religious traditions that teach it. OR you can dismiss the religion, but then you have to dismiss ALL of the religion, including any sentence that includes or implies "should"-ness to be considerate.
I would have many different names, insults, etc., I'd love to use to describe this administration. But stupid isn't one of them. No one gets this far up the power structure with out being intelligent.

It's not that I'm overly worried about his constitutional rights–especially considering the Constitution refers to "We the People…of the United States," not "We the People of the World," or "We the People of America and Middle Eastern whack jobs." I think people misunderstood what I was saying. I don't give a rip about his civil liberties, I really just want to see him shot, or hung, or fried, or whatever's your pleasure. (Immolated, maybe?) If the only way that's going to happen is through a trial–though I'd rather it be through a tribunal–I'm willing to accept that.

Freddy's horrible. Only the first "Nightmare On Elm Street" is any good. After part 2, he became a joke! A one-liner spewing (unfunny) comedian and ceased to be remotely scary or creepy. I'll take Jason and Michael Myers over him any day and Leatherface as well.
That is scary, a black hole of ignorance in which the pull of gravity is so great, that intelligence can not escape.
