If you follow a movie critic on Twitter, chances are you follow him because you admire his ability to critique the many offerings of Hollywood. Unfortunately, if you follow Roger Ebert, you also get endless tirades on greedy corporate fatcats, "nutjob Teabaggers," and how dumb Sarah Palin is. Ebert is,...

"Ashley, Oh Ashley!" Scarlet was such a bitch, which makes Gone with the Wind so fascinating.
Every time i see Vivian Leigh, I can't help but remember the Carol Burnett Gone with the Wind sketch. She makes a dress out of the curtains, rods and all. Genius
Did I make it second?
Vivien Leigh is enchanting.
Yes, you did.
They don't make 'em like they used to.
Jihad Today Names Barack Obama Man Of the Year
Aren't you proud of President Obama for being named Jihad Today's Man of the Year? It is an honor that is richly deserved.
A video that features Islamic Rage Boy singing does it for me.
from all accounts she was a fistfull…
Engaged to Lawrence Olivier during the 'GWTW' period, she was neurotic, needy- and uh, well she liked guys.
A Lot. So Lord Larry was perpetually agitated as she flirted with literally everone. Gable, of course, was deeply in love with Carole Lombard and was NOT interested. That bothered her a bit. Olivier was constantly flying in to visit and keep an eye on her.
Meanwhile Selznick was trying to make a film. Gable hated the first director and insisted hunting buddy Victor Fleming replace the girlyman George Cukor who was FAR more interested in the female costuming then the rugged Gable could tolerate. Selznick made the switch- reluctantly- and then drove Fleming to a nervous breakdown…
Ah yes, the good old days… and Leigh pulled off the role of a lifetime, too.
They had eyebrows in those days.
I believe it was the deep resentment between Gable and Leigh that made for such taut moments in the film. Her pout, her vivid green eyes, the arched eyebrow….that was no act she put on while on camera with Gable
Gorgeous woman, but man, she became a nutcase. Sad story.
Funny how those two things tend to go together.
I think Vivian Leigh is one of the most beautiful people… or was really… Personally, I think she is MUCH more beautiful than Liz Taylor…
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Big Hollywood and Fernando Colon, Michael Chavez. Michael Chavez said: Open Thread Monday http://bit.ly/VIcEu [...]
she could do the coquette thing well, don't you think? Yes, Gable's indifference towards her- and it was that, not animus- that he showed. No matter- it was disinterest.
And she didn't like that one bit…
Vivian Leigh and Robert Taylor in Waterloo Bridge. Just the Best.
This looks interesting… an Aint It Cool News review of a new British movie titled "Harry Brown." The reviewer describes it as Gran Torino starring Michael Caine (which is not a bad thing).
http://aintitcool.com/node/43009
But you kind of wasted it.
Look up the word "coquette" in the dictionary, and Leigh's face will be pictured right next to it!
As Cole Porter wrote : "Leaves me totally cold".
and Gable in the 'rugged individualist' section as well…
Today, the 20 year anniversary of The Berlin Wall coming down, an article from Melanie Phillips:
http://www.melaniephillips.com/articles-new/?p=69...
Liz Taylor is just as beautiful today as she was thirty years ago!
Tragedy, ain't it?
gorgeous…simply gorgeous.
And "Patriot", too
So the New York Times has an article out on Avatar, linked to both here and at Drudge…
Which is locked behind the "registered member" wall. I am really starting to wonder if they do that after a Breitbart site and/or Drudge links to it, as Drudge has changed to an alternate site when one is available.
I do not care how "free" it is, I do not want to give personal information to any mouthpiece of Barry and cronies. Nor do I want the NYT to be able to boast of even one more online registered user. I do not want to be a "member" of NYTimes.com, I want to dismember the NY Times!
I have read Ms. Leigh was offended by the smell of Gable' s breath in their love scenes. He had a lot of chopper problems and his breath was a little hard to take.
That said, Clark Gable was the epitome of masculinity. He symbolizes the true meaning of Movie Star.
She saw it in the window and she just couldn't resist!
Right. This ain't horseshoes.
Damn, rub my face in it!
/snark
no doubt. When the love of his life Lombard died doing USO fundraisers, the 42 year old Gable pulled every string in the book to get into combat. FDR told Hap Arnold if Gable got killed it could cripple the war effort.
So Arnold ordered his flight wing to avoid using him on combat missions. Undaunted, Gable conned a film crew into shooting a mission that he needed to 'supervise' the production and did, indeed see combat.
A few heads rolled because of it…
Pity you don't see anyone like Gable come out of Hollywood anymore.
well, there's Brad 'Pity'… sorry, couldn't help ourselves…
ROFL!!! Now I have to clean my screen!!
Re: Clark Gable. What presence…throughout his entire career!
we, too will admit to a small guffaw upon posting…
I agree.
Try http://www.bugmenot.com. They have user names and passwords for bypassing registration on free sites.
Second ain't that bad Ed – Burger King makes a royal ransom, Avis tries harder, and Joe Biden lives to share his "insights" and smirk another day

Wow, and you just posted that link. If there was anyone who doubted just how popular Big Hollywood has become…
Can´t blame him. I wouldn´t exchange Lombard for Leigh. Theoretically.
Having seen the second, extended trailer I almost don´t care anymore. Everything about this movie seems predictable, derivative, heavy handed – you almost expect liberal politics, but you don´t expect dialogue this bad.
If I can rouse myself, I will watch it for the visuals, which are impressive.
An interesting article on the blog American Thinker about the new man at the State Department's Iran Desk (used to be occupied by Dennis Ross):
http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/11/the_new_ir...
fabulous lighting -
Love Michael Caine – thanks for the heads-up!
Oh, you got knocked to third!
Lombard was cool- and way sexy. Leigh was neurotic- no comparison…
This movie might benefit from the application of what one of my high school teachers called "hippie t.v." — you turn off the volume, crank up the Tangerine Dream, and groove on the conjoined twins of cool images and mind-blowing music.
Of course, you'll still have Space Marines inexplicably blowing up giant Fraggles, but that has its charm too, no?
That was hysterical!
beware anyone carrying a cup of coffee and shadowing your footsteps.
The first time I saw Liz Taylor was in Ivanhoe with Robert Taylor. I thought she was gorgeous. Then Joan Fontaine stood next her……made Liz look like a 9 year old boy…..
58% Say Next President Likely To Be Republican
Fifty-eight percent (58%) of likely voters say it is at least somewhat likely the next president of the United States will be a Republican, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
The number has been trending in this direction since Democrat Barack Obama took office in January and is up 14 points since then.

//If it is a RINO they can keep him,When they say Pepublican they BETTER ! mean Palin or Michele Bachman
Conservative or we might just have a uprising of the populous,no more of the lesser of the two evils.
We are sick and tired of of no Leadership, and we ain't gonna take it anymore !
Mama mia. My post will not appear. 3 times do I try this.
A lovely creature indeed, as well as a gifted and deeply nuanced actress. And she made a splendidly Shavian Cleopatra to Claude Rains's pitch-perfect Caesar. (Woefully underrrated film, which also has a riveting debut performance by Stewart Granger.)
This is not how rock bands are supposed to die. Bands are supposed to go out in a blaze of charred hotel suites, blood feuds and drug overdoses. Instead, Aerosmith's end came in a blog entry.

Steele: White Republicans Are Scared of Me
http://www.breitbart.tv/steele-white-republicans-...
lol…or fat people in general, could go either way.
not at the window three times – pause – then twice. It's the 0bama internet police sweeping for patriots.
like in Terminator…we are the family of Sarah Connor…liberals work for the repressors.
was Vivien Leigh in "Robin Hood" with Erroll Flynn?
that sucks. Steven Tyler will find that sum of the parts is MUCH greater than the parts going solo. I've heard some of the new Joe Perry and it's just like the old Joe Perry Project stuff from awhile back it's ok, but not Aerosmith.
superstar hissy fits, who has time for this crap anymore. enough.
WoooHooo !
Feds seek 30 year sentence for William Jefferson
Federal prosecutors are seeking the harshest prison sentence ever handed out to a member of Congress for former Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.), arguing that his “stunning betrayal of public trust” warrants what could be a life sentence for the long-time lawmaker.
The Justice Department is asking a federal judge in Alexandria, Va, to lock up Jefferson, 62, for up to 33 years, according to documents filed by prosecutors on Friday

I was hoping for a messy bad breakup with costody of Liv given to me
I am after=all a concerned fan and only want the best for the children

Very good advice. I had almost forgotten about Tangerine Dream! Though given the Roger Dean-like floating mountains some early Yes would be appropriate.
Perhaps someone can re-edit the movie to make it even more trippy.
Especially the Na'vi-on-Na' vi love scenes it´s bound to have.
Hurrah for freedom lovers everywhere. As we fight the thuggish tactics of Pelosi, Reid, Obama etc., we can at least take some comfort in the knowledge that, in the end, leftist totalitarianism at its worst was unable to stand against democracy and liberty. May this blight on humanity be totally eradicated in our lifetime.
I fully appreciate yor concerns for the "chilllren" and fully suport your petition to give young Liv *only the best*
That said – custody granted to the custodian of Liv. Case closed.
Steele is a plant.
Welcome back, Jimmy!
Can anyone see this? My pc is very low on memory, so maybe it's not showing me all the posts in the thread.
No – it is not taking – mjust be a 'abd' word in there. I will try one last time and deleting the smallest 'sensitive' material, then I give up.
'bad' word, I mean
I give up.
Err…ALL women left Cole Porter cold!
Then why do you care what they write?
God, he's a tool. If ever someone was perfectly lampooned, it's when the Daily Show shows him as that bald blue muppet who goes to the restaurant where Grover always screws up. (oh God, I referenced the evil, commie Sesame Street! AAAIIEEEE!!)
He just keeps stepping in it. Steele´s problem is that he reflexively agrees with everybody. No matter whom he talks to, it´s always "yeah, you´re right". I have observed this often enough. It takes a bit more to be successful in a job that is essentially public relations.
"Practically everything leaves me totally cold" said Cole.
I simply chose the part of the quote that fit my 'Boring Leigh' agenda.
One, not enough to register for the privilege. Two, we were talking about it here, it would just be follow-up. Three, it was in the business section, it is quite a gamble to put out a half-billion dollar movie and I was interested in what the "pros" thought of its chances.
Although the post here was more about rage at the apparent shift to "members only." Premium content (you pay) is one thing. But this, well, first they put it out there as free, go ahead and look, then when they think it will be popular they switch to "charging" marketing data, your email address, and a potential boost to their advertising rates. That is a kind of "false advertising" I do not like.
Very disappointing.
that is one of the few things I remember from my one painful semester of German in college. and from that, no article for a proper noun…
being one of few who didn't knee-jerk into Kennedy-philia, it made it all the funnier!
Finally. Thank you.
Although I had to laugh over the post with the coffee shadower.
