All sorts of things might pop up if you hover your mouse pointer over that pic, her name being one of them.
Thank you
Never dawned on me
You know, it never dawned on me either. I usually recognize most of stars that appear on the open thread.
Deborah Kerr was a marvelous actress; not a typical haughty Brit, though her proper ways were endearing as they were, at first, prim.
One of my favorites in the fabled BLACK NARCISSUS from 1947, about a group of Anglican nuns who are tasked with opening a school and clinic in the Himalayan mountains. This is no LILIES OF THE FIELD. These nuns are real and they have some issues with themselves and each other. This is a totally spellbinding and gripping, eerie film done in magnificent British Technicolor. Kerr gets to use her patented look of abject horror at the appropriate moment.
Her performance is as masterful in the dread-making THE INNOCENTS, based upon THE TURN OF THE SCREW. We watched this Halloween night and know I remember why I see it so rarely. Too troubling and disturbing it is with Kerr caught in her own psychosis or in the terror of the house itself.
Great thing about her is that she can make what might ostensibly have been a 'chick flick' into film far above that. THE CHALK GARDEN is such a film. (Watch her as she actually saves Hayley Mills from falling from a moving street car.)
AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER – the ladies favorite with Cary Grant.
So many more.

aahhh, Deborah Kerr, rhymes with STAR.
So beautiful. sigh………………………
Classic scene, the dance scene with Yul Brynner, wearing a light tan, satin dress. To die for.
On the Beach, rolling on the sand with Burt Lancaster. yummeeeeeeeee
A Woman of Substance.
The list is almost endless.
Who can forget the intense chemistry from "The King and I" or "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison"?
The lady was amazing!!!
Most definitely she stood head-and-shoulders above the rest!
If Nancy Pelosi gets her way, our government will force us to pay for
abortion, contraception, embryonic stem cell research, in vitro fertilization,
experiments on preborn human beings, euthanasia, rationed health care
and mandatory Planned Parenthood-style sex education.
Getting to know you…
A beautiful and classy lady for sure.
So obama's telepropter screwed up?

Obama to America regarding Cambridge, Ma. police arrest of his friend Gates: stupid action by police(before all facts were in)
Obama to America regarding shooting at Ft. hood: don't jump to conclusions(when most facts are in)
America , what have we wrought??
Following up on the previous comment, see this video comparing Obama's apparently selective philosophies on jumping to conclusions: http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/11/president-oba...
This is sort of what the fall of Rome was isn't it ?

The Hole at the Heart of Our Strategy
We’re scrupulously non-judgmental about the ideology that drives terrorism.
By Mark Steyn
Thirteen dead and 31 wounded would be a bad day for the U.S. military in Afghanistan, and a great victory for the Taliban. When it happens in Texas, in the heart of the biggest military base in the nation, at a processing center for soldiers either returning from or deploying to combat overseas, it is not merely a “tragedy” (as too many people called it) but a glimpse of a potentially fatal flaw at the heart of what we have called, since 9/11, the “War on Terror.” Brave soldiers trained to hunt down and kill America’s enemy abroad were killed in the safety and security of home by, in essence, the same enemy — a man who believes in and supports everything the enemy does.

…." — a man who believes in and supports everything the enemy does."
By definition that is Hussein Obama
that trick doesn't always work, sometimes you just get a file name or other indecipherable code, but it usually has the name.
tough call. on the one hand, you could say the teleprompter was working perfectly, but TOTUS is too stupid and out of touch to recognize the inappropriate nature of the remarks displayed thereon.
however, since we know The One is infallible, whoever wrote and loaded the speech into the machine will be blamed for this gaffe and will soon be seen about town sporting new bus tire tread marks.
also, i can scarcely believe an NBC affiliate, let alone Chicago's!, even has this on their site.
Such a joyous song!
And "Shall We Dance" – the sequence where Yul Brynner finally 'gets it'. Was a dance ever as life-affirming?
"On the Beach, rolling on the sand with Burt Lancaster. yummeeeeeeeee"
Yep – they are on the beach in FROM HERE TO ETERNITY!
That's a hell of a scene – pure, impure sex.
Jail time for not buying coverage?
I wonder if Nancy Pelosi tried out her “we won the election” argument on freshman Democrats in Congressional districts carried by John McCain in 2008? If so, she’s already lost half of them, according to USA Today. Seven of the twelve freshman from conservative districts have announced their opposition to the Pelosi version of ObamaCare, scheduled for a vote this weekend:
There are a dozen first-term Democrats representing districts that Republican presidential nominee John McCain won last year. So far, six have announced that they will vote against their party’s health care bill.

Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear…he must have had a tough childhood, or he was hazed for being a nut case, or he was offended by nativity scenes, or Safeway in his neighborhood sold pork, or his wild eyes scared girls he tried to ask out, or restaurants near his house sold alcohol offending his principles, or women wore shorts in the summer at Fort Hood driving him mad with desire. All of these seem like perfectly plausible elements of what is likely to be his defense and/or Amicus briefs filed by the ACLU and Danny Glover.
It won't take long for the usual suspects to begin rushing to his aid.
He's a traitor and a terrorist who violated his oath as an officer in the worst possible way.
Let's hope the Uniform Code of Military Justice, judiciously and fairly imposed in his case as I am sure it will be, results in his execution with all possible haste.
Check this out: "Political correctness murdered the troops at Fort Hood:"

I know mrm..I was thinking the same thing about NBC having it.
As for the person getting blamed for loading the telepromter..Well wouldn't one think that a person with a heart who was caring and considerate of others be able to put forth those emotions all on their own? WITHOUT having to rely on a teleprompter?
If half the people rejected buying this *itches health care bill then that would be all it would take for it to fail. They can't fit that many people into prisons. AND I'd be the first one to reject it just to spite that *itch.
Oh, didn't you hear? Somebody scratched up the pro-Islam bumper sticker on his car, and was making fun of his beliefs, and on and on and on…..after all, you can't expect a man to listen to jokes made at the expense of his religious beliefs to take it quietly and not go out killing people, can you?
Considering that dance is as close as they come to lovemaking, Yul's bellowing of "COME" during their final twirl takes on a whole new meaning..
As horrendous as the events at Fort Hood were, and I fear we don't know the end of it, I have to point out the amazing heroism of the off-duty officer who charged the guy, took him out, and was shot in the arms and legs. And I thought Capt. Sully was a badass! Go Sgt. Munley!

They don't call him "The Fudge Nitwit" for nothing!
I would be interested to know if Hasan targeted some of his victims based upon his work with them as their psychiatrist. Perhaps he didn't like their opinions and viewpoints of the war. Or maybe their actions in the war. I read that one of his problems in the past had been arguing with soldiers in his care. Also, I read that he had targeted some specific persons. When the heroic cop arrived on the scene, Hasan was said to have been chasing a soldier outside and firing at him. If that were the case, it would indeed be the lowest of the already low – using an injured and/or traumatized soldier's therapy against him/her.
If that were the case, the Hollywood population would be greatly reduced. Last night, on this very blog, a certain commenter was belittling one of Big Hollywood's writers and an entertainer because of their Christian beliefs.
Insanity prevails.
Would you be sorry if someone you did not like… or maybe had outright disdain for died? Would you be filled with emotional compassion and a keen desire to lament their passing with extolation of their finer points?
On a lighter point, the head teleprompter took an impromptu vacation to the Turks and Caicos with Hillary. They called it a working vacation. Prompter was going to help her keep her foot out of her mouth and she was going to make him appear more human. OK, it was a one sided deal.
What the hell is wrong with Eric Cantor?
http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/1109/Ca...
Maybe he needs to get primaried in 2010,Minority Whip or not!
There is so much of this story I do not understand and having a problem processing.
What does come through is the gallant behavior of our troops and first responders. Heroism is alive and well in America in spite of what is in the White House.
Europeans despise our heroes, probably because they have so few. Socialism does not breed heroism.
I think it's a rather good illustration of why Cantor is a member of Congress with a leadership position and Rush is not.
Being the parent of 5th generation Texans, I am still grieving over Ft. Hood. However, considering the treachery that is occuring in our nation's capitol as I write this post, I would like to engage BH commenters in a topic I have not seen really discussed regarding the ObamaCare debacle. This might be a bit long, but I think it is super important:
A member of the British Parliament, Daniel Hannan, said on Glenn Beck's program several months ago that the US absolutely MUST PREVENT the passage of the health care bill. He said when the UK passed their government health care, that system became the WORLD'S 3RD LARGEST EMPLOYER! He said when that number of people vote as a bloc (in order to protect their govt jobs) they are impossible to defeat. Also, I have read that the UK was in desperate need of medical workers and allowed a huge influx of Muslims to fill the jobs. Look up Daniel Hannan on YouTube. He is a well-spoken, intelligent man trying to save his country and help us save ours. Get some talk going about these issues. I am well-read, and I haven't seen anyone else address these aspects of ObamaCare.
And you will pay for it or face 5 years in the pokey. Sure sounds like an All-American plan to me. Once people start being marched off to prison, then maybe the pitchforks come out.
"The Fudge Nitwit" sounds like a good candy bar…
She took an oath to defend and uphold the constitution. I think mabye some snappy lawyer can put together a case against her for completely disregarding her oath. Matter of fact, instead of sending ordinary Americans to prison for not buying health insurance, we should start sending our Reps and Senators and maybe even our top dog to the pen for trashing and disregarding our Constitution. Seems to me, action by our government that is unconstitutional is in fact a crime. Where in the hell is the Supreme Court?
I imagine that that is precisely why he wasn't sorry Wanda.

Wondering if it's also a felony to not USE your coveted insurance once you have it – if we pay for a crack-head (NOT a pre-existing condition, right?
to have regular preventive visits with a primary care provider, and he/she chooses to ignore routine care but ends up in the emergency room with a heart attack, does our druggie get penalized for not taking advantage of their "God Given Right to Healthcare" – for not choosing a healthy lifestyle?
The issues of the past lives of criminals has sprung out of control. I had my ass whipped with a belt, switches, called 4 eyes, fat and was abandoned by my parents. I managed to get a college education on my own dime, married 40 years, never arrested, raised 3 educated smart children with no scars, internally or externally.
So, where do I go now for my free ride? At 70, I am proud of my humble beginnings and the person I became.
Excuses are not reasons.
I'll gladly volunteer to be one of the Muslim's 72 virgins…he will get the thrill of his dead life!
Mom to an 22 yr AF Msgt
If there is ANYONE most deserving of a Congressional medal, its Sgt. Munley…which means it'll go to another political scrote-sniffing hack…
Keep the wounded in your prayers…gunshot injuries are tough to bounce back from…
With Hasan's fitness reports, why was he allowed to remain in MY Army? He should have been enjoying the pleasant Kansas scenery from Fort Leavenworth…
I hope he is in tremendous crippling pain for whatever remains of his useless life during his long and protracted trial, with a fairly good but not good enough defense team…up until someone starts the drugs that ends it…
I'd like to volunteer for that. I was a pretty good needle jockey for IV's and blood collections…get him a nice 16ga. peripheral for low flow resistance, or a subclavian even, if someone holds the book steady while I cut…deliver him right to his seventy-something Barney Frank and John Holmes virgin clones…
Good job Mom. I always question people who use excuses and never take responsibility for their actions. However I don't do it out loud because I've not been there. I'm just so proud of you and yours!
Syrupy sweet empty of substance and surrounded by Fruits and Nuts.
I also love The Sundowners. Such a wonderful movie and she is magnificent in it. Couldn´t agree more about The Innocents and Black Narcissus.
The word is overused, but Sgt. Kimberly Munley is a true hero. I stand in awe before her courage. As long as there are such people…
Calm down. He criticized one specific (and in my opinion exaggerated) comparison made by Rush. What was he supposed to do, say that yes, Obama was like Hitler in that respect? It is no longer possible to disgree with Rush on anything? Really? You don´t like winning elections, do you? Cantor – or your dream candidate who would presumably say such idiocies – won´t do much good if he´s out of Congress sitting in his room making comments on blogs like you and I and fifty million other nobodies.
Kudos to you, Mom. My Mom has a similar story and she turned out to be a saint, although a saint with very high standards and God help me if I did not live up to them. Mom could squeeze a nickel until it screamed, but we were always well-fed, well-dressed, clean and neat, went to church every Sunday, and did our homework before we could watch TV or go out and play, and Christmas was an embarassment of riches. Mom was also a vet. God Bless Her. Mom and Dad would never allow me to make excuses and as for playing the victim – they would have disabused me of that role PDQ. It seems that this twisted creep, despite his professional training in psychiatry, allowed himself to sink into a mud pit of victimhood and religious ideology and instead of healing himself, chose the low, cowardly, murderous road.
If you want to get to the root of this a55h0l35's problem, take a good, long look at Wahabbism and the other fundamentalist, unforgiving, rigid, and bloodthirsty teachings of this so-called "religion of peace." Spend some time living amongst them n the Middle East, as I have, and you will come away believing that you had been living in what 16th Century Christianity, ruled by rigid idealogues who thought burning people alive was cleansing, was like. I see no, repeat, no difference between what these people believe is dictated by God and what the clerics of the Inquisition and other tyrranical religious eras thought was necessary. It is time to drag these fanatics, kicking and screaming, across the longitude that demarks the easternmost expansion of 'The Enlightenment."
Don't forget her part in "An Affair to Remember". Awfully good there too.
Sgt Munley is a hero, but she had a partner that was with her and he shot the bastard two times too.
She got hit and I'm sorry about that. I understand she is a tough cookie and one that I would welcome on my team, if I had one. There were other heros that day too, troops taking care of each other. Damned shame!!
The gihadist killed a 55 year old female Physicians assistant, a 62 year old PA, and others that he apparently worked with. Really a feather for the cheap piece of garbage and a real muslime "warrior"
huh? They take pride in killing old women and children but all have to be unarmed to get their attention.
The Medal of Honor (has nothing to do with Congress) is only presented to military folks in battle where the perform "above and beyond" the call of duty. The Medal of Honor is composed of approximately $35
of "pot" metal. The Congressional Medal of Freedom is presented to any an all political garbage that did anything the politicians wanted….. this medal (before gold went out of sight) consisted of approximately
$35,000 of real gold. Give an idea of how much the military hero counts in this insane, corrupt goobermnt.
Deborah Kerr, one of the classiest of acts ever. Where is her like today? None close.
Sundowners!!! Made in my home. AUS!!!!
Robert Mitchum!!!!!!
Bugger, Bugger, Bugger!!!
Thanks for the correction LB.
I got so carried away, all I could think of was "the beach scene".
Don't forget one of her lesser known, yet by no measure, a lesser film, Tea and Sympathy.
She was so amazing.
Can´t say for sure why I found a movie about sheep shearers so sweet and touching, but the combination of Kerr, Mitchum, Zinnemann and Australia is a good one. I know I will visit Australia one day and I won´t want to leave again.
