I was originally thinking of a pithy response, but then it occurred to me, you may have something there. Marcos was a brutal dictator, and modern liberals do love them.

Someone commented on this thread or possibly on another article, I wish I could have found him easily to give him credit for the comparison, but he aptly pointed out
our beloved POTUS said, right out of the box when no info was known how the police acted in Cambridge Pof. Gates episode were stupid. Yet this shooting at Fort Hood where a lot is known we are to hold off and not pass judgement quickly. Its not only the Media but a great number of the prestigious Northeastern college educated "with Honors" liberals that are driving this country beyond recognition.

(cond) - Interestingly, the Propagandists in the media are presenting the Fort Hood Allahu Akbar mass murderer just as an isolated wing nut acting alone -- nothing to do with Islamic fanaticism. But recall when Timothy McVeigh (a truly isolated wing nut) blew up the Murrah Bld in OK City, this same propaganda media was out their wailing that he was influenced by talk radio. The hypocrisy (and stupidity) of the Left wing media is exceeded only by their contempt for us (we the people).

The bottom line is the propaganda media don't trust us "redneck" Americans, only the "cultured" ivy league trained "experts". They think if we Neanderthals figure out the Muslims are out to kill us, we might act badly, like our "cowboy president" George W. Bush did. The propaganda media much prefer the measured, diplomatic approach ala our Messianic president Barack Obama takes. It's mind control straight out of Orwell's "1984". Those of us who haunt BH have caught on, but there are millions who believe what the Propaganda Media tell them. (continued)

I added to a thread on another story recently that the Media going to groups of Muslim Americans, groups headed by Muslin women, and asking for their comments on some
horrific explosion or other is not productive. They for instance ask these Women why no outcry by American Muslims to the destuctive actions of Muslims in other parts of the world
and they will say, of course American Muslims are just as taken aback by the act as anyone else and are very sorry it happened in the name of Muslims. When in fact the male Muslims
do not give any authority for women to speak for the Muslim world go about their business
as if no commitment has been made at all against other Muslims. The Media is happy tho lied to and nothing is gained by the west.

"No Prayers for the Assassin" is a mass market "thriller" type book with lots of violence. The hero is a moderate Muslim attempting to save his lover from the radicals who are hunting her donw in an effort to shut her up for something she discovered while researching history. What's good about this book is the backstore, how the (blue) states in America became "The Islamic Republica of America", the tension between the blue states and red states (The Bible Belt).

The second book -- can't remember the name -- isn't very good and I don't recommend it.

Other good books are -- "A Thousand Splendid Suns" about Afghanistan - this one is literary, well written with a deep theme. The same writer wrote "The Kite Runner". Both are excellent but not page turnsers like "Prayers".

Nonfiction - "The Infidel" is the best.

#2 - My thesis on why Islamic countries all are backward (with no exceptions I can think of) is that the religion (which is also their political ideology) proscribes females from participating in the maintenance of the society. This means that the burden of supporting the society falls to men and only a percentage of those (some being too old, others too young, to work). Thus about 35% of the society must carry the whole load. This was sustainable in the Agricultural Age (which many countries still are in), and perhaps the Industrial Age, but is not sustainable in the Modern/Information Age where women's labor is needed. Thus they fight to bring us all down to where they are.

No apology needed, no insult taken. By far the most interesting thesis I've read on Islam was by Col. Ralph Peters which appeared in USA Today a few years back. It still may be available. Google "Global War on Women". Col. Peters's thesis is that this Islami-vs the rest of the world is really a war betweent he burqa and the business suit (which seems to fit what other BH bloggers) are saying. This fits with my thesis below (constrained by word limits).

Thank you Growltiger, I will hit the library today. By the way I want to apologize for my idiotic remark yesterday. I may have insulted you by my Islamic remark and it was a stupid thing to say.
I let the headlines of the day rule my thoughts sometimes.
Strange things sometimes happen at this website but I blame it on my ill functioning software.
I'm not quite sure what the rules are but i love the site anyway. Thanks again for your recommendation

Initial reply too long. (Anybody know the word count here?). But if you're interested in non fiction, read "Reading Lolita in Tehran" and "My Forbidden Face", both by women who lived under Islam. The best book on what it's like to be a woman under Islam, however, by far is "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi (who is now under a fatwa and lives with armed guards).
