Sheda Vasseghi: Profiles in Courage From the Streets of Iran for Hollywood’s Gutless Wonders
by Big HollywoodSheda Vasseghi in today’s World Tribune:
“The mainstream Hollywood crowd, an apologist group that enjoys traveling to Taliban-run countries such as Iran spreading their holier-than-thou “cultural understanding” of rogue regimes, has been effectively censored by Moslem clerics. Filmmaker Roland Emmerich chose not to blow up the Kaaba at Mecca in his film 2012 for fear of a fatwa (death sentence issued by Moslem clerics) being placed on his head.

“Yet, in 2005, actor Sean Penn went to cover a so-called Islamic Republic “election” wanting Americans to visit Iran and become familiar with its culture. In March 2009, director Phil Alden Robinson found that Iranians were not very different; and actress Annette Bening (surely with a headscarf given Iran’s brutal enforcement of hijab) hoped her trip to Iran would jump start a bridge between the U.S. and the mullahs in Tehran.
“These frivolous, superficial entertainers turned international political experts, who cause socio-political damages beyond the limits of this article for their misguided trips to imprisoned societies, are now censored in their own free societies by the mere thought of being personally harmed. Ironically, Emmerich’s admission may actually teach Americans about mullahcracy compliments of Hollywood.”

The Holly Weird crowd has no problem living on their knees. They know that position only to well.
Roland Emmerich's exclusion of Mecca's destruction in his movie, 2012, is the biggest cop-out I've ever seen.
Hollywood would sell it's soul for a buck. Emmerich just wants to be able to sell his movie in Iran. What a joke he is. He isn't intimidated by Iran's Mullahs, he just wants to make money from them, so the laughs on them after all. It makes them all look rediculous, but then, that's Hollywood.
Good article. The Hollywood crowd is shallow, ignorant and hypocritical.
"Hollywood intellectual" = an oxymoron. Unless it's conservative Ben Stein, who has the creds.
Hollywood censors themselves to the brutal oppression in the Muslim world but freaks over the N word.
Christians who buy their tickets are fair game, because they don't fight back. They've sold out America.
They are all cowards — when's the boycott begin? It's long overdue.

Oops! … didn't mean Christians have sold out America! Hollywood has sold out America!!!
We should boycott the Movies at the box office and TV shows and their sponsors, that do not promote Western
values.
Gerald Ford and the democratic congress renigging on their promise to militarily support South Vietnam if the North invaded is the biggest I've seen in my life time.
Either that or Bush the coward encouraging the shiites of Iraq to rise up and over throw saddam, then feeding them to the dogs.
In my lowly opinion Hollywood thinks it can survive in any of these enviroments. They kiss a few Mullahs rear ends and of course both sides like the publicity, thank you very much and show the're buddies back home what
kind of worldly influence they have. They will single handily bring the world together bcause of their special insight. I think if truth beknown they also like the way women are treated and could become use to the idea of stay covered, stay home and shut up. Also, I divorce thee three times now hit the road lady aspect is very attractive rather than the California community property laws they now face. Is it possible they actually believe that if it all turns to be true and Islam is running the world show the movie community will survive with all their bodily parts still attached? I believe this bastion of sophistication known as Hollywood is naive indeed.
I say we force anyone that wants us to be friends with dictatorships and what us to be just like them to live there for about 10 years or so as a full fledged citizen (ie can't come back the the US whenever they can't take it anymore) and see just how great that society is afterwards… :/
Morons.
I think it starts one person/one family at a time. We are boycotting the dookie out of films, tv shows, THE NFL, etc. and I'm an actor!! (Am I shooting myself in my own foot here?) We all should be spending wisely and with a conscience. For me this started when I was in my 20's and heard something wonky about a singer–something I didn't agree with (a statement about people of faith, I think). I thought to myself, "why should I support this moron and his lifestyle with my hard earned money?" That's when my boycott began.
"Additionally, the 21st century Hollywood is filled with unappealing and overpriced mediocre talents."
Indeed. They are bloated egos housing second class minds completely incapable of understanding why they are mocked. Nothing is more disgusting than Hollywood entourages replete with the press and personal stylists touring hideously failed states filled with human misery and watching them fawn over the few crumbs the reigning mullah or dictator doles out.
If Hollywood disappeared tomorrow it would be a big gain in turning around our dumbed down culture. The garbage that Hollywood exports oversees has contributed more to anti-American sentiment than any foreign policy. They make us look stupid and misrepresent our culture.
24 ended pretty stupidly too.
They might survive with their body parts intact, but their body parts wouldn't be showing on screen! And women would have NO place in the industry, especially in positions of power where they migth be supervisors of men. That's a big no-no in Islam. Women in positions of power over children, okay until the boys reach a certain age and then it's dicey. They have no idea who they are playing footsie with. They haven't done their research.
What fantasy in her mind is Annette Benning dressed up to be?
NO LONGER THE SILENT MAJORITY!
Penn is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of the self-important, anti-American, Hollywood egotist. They spew their venom to the world while praising themselves and giving each other endless awards so they won't feel guilty for participating in their deviant lifestyles. They preach "tolerance" but they are not satisfied with tolerance, THEY WANT FULL ACCEPTANCE OF THEIR SICK LIFESTYLES AND MENTAL ILLNESSES. In reality, they act the part of heroes while they surrounding themselves with adoring, WEAK MINDED WORSHIPERS WHO WILL NEVER TELL THEM THE TRUTH.

Funny. This is like a Reader's Digest version of everything I've written here since I revolted against the Academy over the Iran trip in March and joined the Forces of Good here at Big Hollywood. By the way, read this article and then check out the lame ROAD TO ISFAHAN promo featuring now-blacklisted Iranian artists like Fatemeh Motamed-Aria still posted at the oscars.org main page.
Never mind the real Road to Isfahan is now bloodstained and pocked with bullet holes. I guess there are some forms of McCarthyism they prefer not to speak up about, so they'll profit from it PR-wise instead. To wrap it up, do you think Hollywood will ever make a film about this Iranian Oskar Schindler? LOL!

"Hollywood would sell it's soul for a buck"
And still have to give change back.
I think you give these people too much credit. They're convinced they are the beautiful people, who would be welcomed by the rulers, and the unwashed masses. They'd live in palaces, give speeches, tour children's hospitals.
They wouldn't last a week out in the fields actually working.
My guess would be she's pretending to be some great female peace maker throughout history, universally worshiped and adored by the masses she personally saved, but she doesn't have to do anything messy.
So that rules out Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc or Margret Thatcher. Maybe Ruth from the Old Testament?

An intellectual, maybe?
Don't worry, as the people of Venezuela have their liberties and in many cases their possessions taken away, they can at least take comfort in the fact that Danny Glover, Sean Penn and Oliver Stone think Hugo Chavez is just the bee's knees.
He's not giving them credit, just suggesting we educate them. Many of them would probably do okay, with their lips securely stuck to the dictators' heinies, but a few of them would probably forget to glue their lips there one day and end up in a slimy dark hole getting educated.
You can't educate what can't be educated. You'd make more progress trying to teach a pineapple to sing opera.
The worst aspect of modern liberalism, they think they are so smart they know everything. A hard core lib, you can not debate them, you can not reason with them, you can't show them facts, because they are 100% sure they know everything.
I had a debate with one once about visitor logs from the White House. I pointed out Al Gore withheld visitor logs when he was VP. And can you believe he told me that was different because Al Gore live in his own private home.
He actually believed Al Gore owned the Naval Observatory. When I pointed that out, the other liberal he was shook his hand and congratulated the guy I was debating for beating me so soundly.
Beauty may be only skin deep, but modern liberal ignorance goes clear to the bone.
Iran is not run by the Taliban. It's controlled by Ayatollah Khomeini. Spelling may vary. I mean, if you're going to write something, at least use facts in your opening sentence.
Semantics, Captain Risible. Iran supplies the Taliban with heavy weapons. They also supply Shiite extremists in Iran. It's the difference between Axis partners Germany and Japan at best. They're all killing our soldiers. Oh, and Ayatollah Khomeini has been dead for 20 years now. It's Supreme Asswipe Ali Khamanei. Maybe YOU should get your facts straight before you counsel others on theirs.
Ruth won't work either – she worked in the fields and took HUGE risks!!! And don't look to Esther or Deborah in the OT either. I don't want to go as far as Queen Jezebel…
Maybe Evita???
Something about seeing Christian/Agnostic/Jewish/Atheist women wearing Muslim headscarves sets my teeth on edge. Muslim women don't remove their shrouds when they appear in Secular/Christian or Jewish countries, why should women from these countries kowtow to these fanatics and "cover" themselves. Or is it just that women like Hillary, Annette, Nasty Nazi Pelosi are clueless as to what "covering" themselves really means?
I laughed when I saw that Iran was controlled by a guy who's been dead for twenty years. Liberales are clueless.
I don't object to Emmerich refusing to make himself a target by dissing the fanatics. What I do object to is that he's too dishonest to admit that the reason he disses Christians is because he knows they aren't the religous fanatics Hollywood makes them out to be. Hypocrisy is a lot harder for me to choke down than cowardice.
I started boycotting Ho'wood unintentionally years ago. I got tired of the "liberal tell" as Nolte deems it and being sucker punched for my beliefs. I got sick of seeing actors being paid millions, taking my hard earned money and giving it to Democrats who then raise my taxes — a double whammy. I only wish a boycott would be ORGANIZED, that some web site would arise to get out the word — maybe the 50% of us who aren't Democrats stay away from the movie houses the month of the Oscars just to show them the power (if any) of our purse.
"I think if truth beknown they also like the way women are treated and could become use to the idea of stay covered, stay home and shut up."
I recommend you reading "Prayers for the Assassin". One of the minor characters is a former Ho'wood actress who marries a basketball player who is Islamic, and SHE converts to Islam, leading thousands of susceptible women to follow her.
well, that's how alot of them get their big breaks.
I will do so tho reading Islamic themed books is a bit of a hardship for me as I cringe at the
shear idiocy of the philosophy. Thanks for the tip Growltiger.
It makes me sick when Western women wear the headscarf out of "respect". Don't they understand women in Muslim countries have no choice but to wear it? They are beaten and killed if they don't, but hey Annette wear one because it's cool looking. "Take a picture of me looking inspired while I wear a headscarf". Anyway what happened to her? She looks as old as her husband.
SSSHHHH…..Brother Dw… children maybe listening.
ah, you would be refering to A list actors then.
Yeah, and the US is run by Michael Dukakis in your world too, right….?
Lol. I wasn't but I am now.
I've heard those books are pretty good. Have you read all of them? What's your verdict?
Imelda Marcos, maybe? She did have a lot of shoes……
It's hard to blame these actors. They spend years pretending to save people from burning buildings, they play world leaders on screen, they portray historical figures that altered the course of history, people love them for that… and then I think they start to believe that they really are these heroes that they portray on screen.
Sean Penn probably thinks that his run for office in San Francisco in the 1970s was a pivotal moment for gay rights in America. Anette Benning probably thinks she was the President's lover and confidant, and that Rob Reiner just happened to be in the oval office filming it.
It's not their fault for being who they are. They are good at what they do. Their craziness is what makes them good on the screen.
It's the fault of the people who pay money to see the movies that they can't tell the difference between an actor, and a true hero.
Daro, you've literally taken the words from my mouth. I'll bet not one of these stupid women would ever have put on a head covering "out of respect", if they'd met with Mother Theresa.
As for the photo above, MAN!!! that is the ugliest picture I have ever seen of Annette Benning.
I wonder if she's seen it herself? No self-respecting actress would ever let a pic like that go viral.
I suppose I've just answered my own question.
>"Nothing is more disgusting than Hollywood entourages replete with the press and personal stylists…"
One thing is more disgusting: Jokebama and his fawning sycophants.

True, but they're really the same when you think about it.
I think ROland Emmerich was a coward for leaving Mecca's destruction out of 2012, but at least he's honest enough to admit why he did it, instead of giving some BS PC answer.
As Growltiger and a few others have pointed out – say what you want about the "evil" Christians, but they're not going to kill you for disagreeing with them.
"Prayers for the Assassin" (or is it "NO Prayers for the Assassin" — I can't quite remember. The author is Ferrigno. It is set in the USA AFTER the country has split into an Islamic Republic (basically the blue states), a Christian nation called "The Bible Belt" (basically red states), with California and Vegas being non aligned — Vegas being the free sin zone. I couldn't figure California out. Ferrigno is an okay writer but the book is intriguing in how it explains how things happened. The above blerb came out of it.
It is basically a thriller with a Moderate Muslim hero who is trying to save his love interest who is being hunted down because she (a historian) has discovered some fact the radical muslims don't want to come out. Don't bother with the sequel to this as it isn't any good. Can't even remember the name.
Initial reply too long. (Anybody know the word count here?). But if you're interested in non fiction, read "Reading Lolita in Tehran" and "My Forbidden Face", both by women who lived under Islam. The best book on what it's like to be a woman under Islam, however, by far is "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi (who is now under a fatwa and lives with armed guards).
Thank you Growltiger, I will hit the library today. By the way I want to apologize for my idiotic remark yesterday. I may have insulted you by my Islamic remark and it was a stupid thing to say.
I let the headlines of the day rule my thoughts sometimes.
Strange things sometimes happen at this website but I blame it on my ill functioning software.
I'm not quite sure what the rules are but i love the site anyway. Thanks again for your recommendation
No apology needed, no insult taken. By far the most interesting thesis I've read on Islam was by Col. Ralph Peters which appeared in USA Today a few years back. It still may be available. Google "Global War on Women". Col. Peters's thesis is that this Islami-vs the rest of the world is really a war betweent he burqa and the business suit (which seems to fit what other BH bloggers) are saying. This fits with my thesis below (constrained by word limits).
#2 – My thesis on why Islamic countries all are backward (with no exceptions I can think of) is that the religion (which is also their political ideology) proscribes females from participating in the maintenance of the society. This means that the burden of supporting the society falls to men and only a percentage of those (some being too old, others too young, to work). Thus about 35% of the society must carry the whole load. This was sustainable in the Agricultural Age (which many countries still are in), and perhaps the Industrial Age, but is not sustainable in the Modern/Information Age where women's labor is needed. Thus they fight to bring us all down to where they are.
"No Prayers for the Assassin" is a mass market "thriller" type book with lots of violence. The hero is a moderate Muslim attempting to save his lover from the radicals who are hunting her donw in an effort to shut her up for something she discovered while researching history. What's good about this book is the backstore, how the (blue) states in America became "The Islamic Republica of America", the tension between the blue states and red states (The Bible Belt).
The second book — can't remember the name — isn't very good and I don't recommend it.
Other good books are — "A Thousand Splendid Suns" about Afghanistan – this one is literary, well written with a deep theme. The same writer wrote "The Kite Runner". Both are excellent but not page turnsers like "Prayers".
Nonfiction – "The Infidel" is the best.
I added to a thread on another story recently that the Media going to groups of Muslim Americans, groups headed by Muslin women, and asking for their comments on some
horrific explosion or other is not productive. They for instance ask these Women why no outcry by American Muslims to the destuctive actions of Muslims in other parts of the world
and they will say, of course American Muslims are just as taken aback by the act as anyone else and are very sorry it happened in the name of Muslims. When in fact the male Muslims
do not give any authority for women to speak for the Muslim world go about their business
as if no commitment has been made at all against other Muslims. The Media is happy tho lied to and nothing is gained by the west.
The bottom line is the propaganda media don't trust us "redneck" Americans, only the "cultured" ivy league trained "experts". They think if we Neanderthals figure out the Muslims are out to kill us, we might act badly, like our "cowboy president" George W. Bush did. The propaganda media much prefer the measured, diplomatic approach ala our Messianic president Barack Obama takes. It's mind control straight out of Orwell's "1984". Those of us who haunt BH have caught on, but there are millions who believe what the Propaganda Media tell them. (continued)
(cond) – Interestingly, the Propagandists in the media are presenting the Fort Hood Allahu Akbar mass murderer just as an isolated wing nut acting alone — nothing to do with Islamic fanaticism. But recall when Timothy McVeigh (a truly isolated wing nut) blew up the Murrah Bld in OK City, this same propaganda media was out their wailing that he was influenced by talk radio. The hypocrisy (and stupidity) of the Left wing media is exceeded only by their contempt for us (we the people).
Someone commented on this thread or possibly on another article, I wish I could have found him easily to give him credit for the comparison, but he aptly pointed out
our beloved POTUS said, right out of the box when no info was known how the police acted in Cambridge Pof. Gates episode were stupid. Yet this shooting at Fort Hood where a lot is known we are to hold off and not pass judgement quickly. Its not only the Media but a great number of the prestigious Northeastern college educated "with Honors" liberals that are driving this country beyond recognition.
I was originally thinking of a pithy response, but then it occurred to me, you may have something there. Marcos was a brutal dictator, and modern liberals do love them.
