Now is not a time to psychoanalyze the attacker by using a media-supplied telescope that already said he was dead, and that there were multiple attackers. Media: STOP, please. There will be time to pursue answers and justice after Christmas. We must remember that family members lost loved ones just before the holidays. Justice and answers will come with time.
When stories of this kind break, the weatherman becomes the most accurate part of the newscast. We know nothing right now. We know less than nothing because too much of what we’re told is wrong.
All we know is that people are dead and wounded, and families and loved ones are suffering. That’s all that matters right now. The rest is noise.

I don't know if this is an inappropriate sentiment, but I hope they don't pre-empt Red Eye for a second time this week. I don't know how necessary it is to have a 7th straight hour of "breaking news" coverage at 3:00 in the morning.
It will all come out eventually, but what an incredible tragedy.
Again, America was meant to be a melting pot, not a salad bowl. This major refused to melt.

Michael, you are absolutely correct. But the media will live and breath this for days. Maybe less time than they obsessed over Michael Jackson– but I'm not betting on it.
I was relieved to hear the civilian cop who stopped the shooter did in fact survive. It goes without saying that the families are in my prayers.
I posted this on another column, but I think I'd like to post it here as well. Breitbarts websites can get pretty opinionated, but I agree that this is not the time or place for it. Give the Country and the Families time to grieve.
As a father with two kids in the military, my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to the victims and their families. God has his own plans and , I pray, this tragedy is serving some greater purpose. Please, everyone hold their judgements and accusations, until the facts are in, and we've had a chance to grieve for the victims. At this time, turning this into a political issue, will just drag the memory of the fallen into the mud.
Veterans Day is coming up, and I would also like to suggest that we take a moment to say thank you, to the Veterans still living, and a thank you and a prayer for the ones who've passed on. I know many Veterans who carry scars from their service either on their bodies or on their minds. Take a minute to think about these citizen heroes, and the sacrifice that they have given for our freedom.
I've been checking in throughout the day to find out what BH would say about today's massacre, and then I read this. If I didn't know better, I'd mistake this post and its praise for something Obama & his sychophants would say. We all know WTF happened and why. We've had eight years of "wise, wise words" like "Islam means peace", and the enemy hits us with the worst attack since 9/11. None of us can come close to feeling what the bereaved are feeling tonight and I won't pretend to. I'm thinking about the next attack and the one after that and what the F it will take for our gov. to crush this enemy once and for all. An enemy that is out to kill us today, tomorrow, ON Christmas, after Christmas, and who will never stop until they're stopped.
I hope Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan enjoys a firing squad. ______Islam, the religion of peace, my ass.
I couldn't disagree more with this post. Of course this is an enemy attack and of course we should mourn the dead but we should BE ANGRY. It's our LACK of anger that will be our downfall. What Michael Yon must not understand is that this Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is a good muslim doing exactly what the Koran has told him to do. And, all the Muslims around the world who commit these same types of atrocities– in Mumbai, in Madrid, in Bali, in London, in New York, in DC, in Chechnya, in Kashmir, in Paris– are GOOD Muslims who believe that killing non-Muslims will earn them a place in Islamic heaven and a place for 70 of their relatives.
The correct reaction ought to be a strong reaction. This endless "swatting at flies" tactic just doesn't work. Defeating them works. Showing our strength works. Refusing to budge works. Learning the truth about Islam will work. And, the truth can be found in the KORAN as long as you find one in chronological order. The site Prophet of Doom has one, omit the spaces and add a dot com.

Very true, we should not go crazy while nobody knows anything. But perhaps we can start asking questions, such as: did the army meet any diversity goals employing this guy?
First my heart goes out to the families.
Second, how disrespectful of our Commander in Chief to spend 2 minutes high fiving the crowd before he addresses the fallen soldiers we lost today in his address to the nation. In addition he gives a shout out too a Silver Star Medal Recipient and says he is a "Winner" of the medal. No Mr. President you may win a Noble prize but you can never ever "Win" Silver Star. Sorry you do not understand the difference.
We're beginning to see just how broad our CINC's base of ignorance really is. "Winner" indeed!
In my profession, "inappropriate" is one of the most damning appellations one can bestow on someone.

I agree with your first paragraph. However, I think it's misguided to think that we can or should "defeat" Muslims all around the world. How about leaving them be and carefully screening the small number we let into the this country – especially those we let into our military.
I too disagree with the great Michael Yon. Its time to get fed up and angry. We've been so mollified over the years.. I'm done being nice about the Islam issue. I'm tired of the race baiters, I'm tired of the reaction of our goverment. I'm done. And I'm angry. Why are we dicking around people? Lets' get the hell out of the middle east, drill in our own country, bring on nuclear power, and scrutinize the muslims who are here with a finetooth comb. "Allahu Akbar!" is what jihadists scream before comitting their atrocities.
And from Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch & Front Page Magazine this morning writes that this piece of shit also passed out Koran's the morning of the attack, dressed in full Muslim regalia. And though he was born in Virginia, he listed himself as a "Palestinian" on a form he filled out at the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
You are absolutely correct. The idea that we should wait until after Christmas (!) is insane. If a member of my family were killed by what is essentially a homicide bomber I would want justice as swiftly as possible and not wait for the famous very short memory of the American public and the MSM to forget all about it.

Hannity live coverage quoted Nidal's friend regarding his refusal to deploy: " he didn't want to kill Muslim's". Couple that with his yelling of Alluha Akbar while shooting and you have a fairly strong case for profiling.

Unfortumately, you are right. I fear all we will get by "turning the other cheek" is our throat slit.
His motives don't matter one bit at this time. And it is my strong conclusion that the only way they will matter at all, is in how they will be telling the powers that be the danger of having our own military infiltrated with jihadists. But I believe that the POTUS ought to demonstrate heart for the families and loved ones who are mourning, and that heart ought to be announcing both a careful investigation to resecure the base AND a swift, certain, and serious adminstration of justice.
While I agree with Michael Yon that the horror and sorrow that these families have endured should be foremost in our thoughts and we don't have all of the facts it's unbearable watching the MSM trying to disconnect Islam from this atrocity. Sorry, but, I refuse to let that potential factor be whitewashed away by the media.
Looking at Hasan’s attire captured on video hours before at a 7/11 he literally wore his religion on his sleeve publically. Considering the guy wasn’t an army chaplain I submit it as exhibit A when considering his motives.

As a lifelong conservative Reagan Republican Muslim, I can saddened by the hate and racism seen here. You ask "where's the Muslim outrage" yet refuse to see Muslim outrage. MANY statements were issued condemning this unIslamic act from Muslims in the military as well as civilian groups. Yet some here would have us all deported. That is NOT the American way!! Ronald Reagan would be ashamed.

You can be plenty angry without dissecting this killer's every thought. I do not want to hear from his family about how much he adored America. I do not want to hear from CAIR about how the fact he was a new convert to Islam and how he wrote/said all sorts of terrible things about Americans or Christians… that that should be set aside.
What do I want? I want them to tell us how the survivors are doing. I want them to tell me about who shot this guy and rendered him unable to shoot another innocent person. I want to hear what the potential punishment will be for him shooting to death a pregnant woman.

My first response got ceonsored so I'll try again, very briefly. I don't think this post was wise. I do think anger is not not only a natural but a necessary response to events like this. It's clear to anyone with half a brain why Hasan Nidal whatever did this. Frankly, this post is an insult to our intelligence.
Hasan is an islamic jihadist by his own admission. On a document he declared himself Palestinian by birth despite being American born. he had no allegiance to this country, his allegiance, like obama's, is with our enemies.

It just occured to me that what is likely behind the praise of Yon's "wise, wise" words is something that Ayn Rand called The Argument from Intimidation. We have been shown what is considered "wise" around here, and therefore anything else is by definition considered unwise. Example: "Anyone who likes that song is a piece of shit. Hey, do you like that song?"

I’m writing regarding the attack on the Fort Hood by Major Hassan. There are approximately 4,000 active duty troops in the US Military that self-select as practicing muslims. You must order that these men and women be subject to complete review of their activities and comments outside and inside their duties in the US Military. If it is found that they have made statements or are making comments online that are sympathetic to muslim radicalism they must be honorably discharged with what ever benefits they have attained. The men and women of the United States military deserve the utmost protection that our intelligence services can provide; if we are unable to keep tabs on this fellow who publicly makes statements against the United States of America while serving in the US military what hope do any of us have?
Finally, you must order that any base that has activities where troops are unarmed because of training or other activities that an armed presence is on hand to retard this from ever happening again. When my grandfather and my father served they were issued side arms to defend against this and other eventualities.
Major Hassan shot a pregnant women; if that isn’t enough for you to do the right thing in this instance I don’t know what is.

Last night they (the media) were trying to explain away what he did by saying that he was being teased/ ridiculed/ called names and because he was told scary stories. If THAT is the criteria for what makes for a mass killer we should all eye our children as possible killers.

I agree, regarding him. And for fundamentalist Islam, the kind that reads the Quran and takes it literally, you are right. I do have to say, though, that people go postal for various reasons, and Islam might be just an excuse for bad wiring – though the Quran does offer moral authority for this behavior more than any other book.
The Old testament was atually not much different, except it only told the Jews to take the Promised Land, not the rest of the world, and God was supposed to do most of the killing. The New Testament of course moved away all this violence. In any case there are very few Jews or Christians that find excuse for this stuff in their scriptures.
I know a few Moslems, however, and they are nice people, quiet and unassuming, and not fundamentalist.
One is a female engineer from Iran, and not wearing the hijab. (She left as a child in '79.) I can assure you she does not espouse Islamic rule.
On the other hand I did have an Iranian neighbor one time, in an apartment building, who was a raging dangerous beast and should not have been in my country. Screamed and raged and wanted to kill me for questioning his collection of shopping carts by the elevator.
I repsectfully and fully disagree with any thought of holding off any vigorous investigation or public debate concerning this act of war by one man upon his country. This was a premeditated act nothing more nothing less. This act of war requires that all Americans, especially the card-carrying members of the Left and Right Wings of the Established Party (DEMOPUBLICS or PUBLICDEMOS if you prefer) to focus on the reason for and the response to this act.
Americans, in my opinion need to speak out about this heinous act of war.
If the "single gunman" has any compatriots whom were involved in this act, I submit that we send the correct message to those people.
