Chicago Tribune: ABC’s ‘V’ Takes Aim at ObamaMania
by Big HollywoodBig Hollywood covered this back in May, but it seemed too good to be true. It still seems too good to be true….
And we gave strict orders that our right-wing network television sleeper agents were not to be activated until after the holidays.
Don’t tell anyone, but the activation password was: Eisenhower.
–
No doubt, CNN’s fact-checkers are on alert.
“Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
“The news media swoons in admiration — one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: “Why don’t you show some respect?!” The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader’s origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: “Embracing change is never easy.”
“So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait — did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who’s come here to eat us?
“Welcome to ABC’s “V,” the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season. Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it’s also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president’s supporters and delight his detractors.”

ACORN, SEIU, et.al. will start pressuring stations not to broadcast it, until the movie is changed to make the V's look like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, and Laura Ingraham.
Why do I get the feeling liberal TV critics are already working on smug insults for their negative reviews?
Two days ago I was able to catch, on SYFY, the re-airing of the original V movie, and the mini-series. Wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be, and I remember watching it as a youngster.
I'm looking forward to the remake.
HEY YOU RINOs, THINK YOU ARE SAFE? GUESS AGAIN!
Conservatives and tea party activists already have set their sights on some of the GOP's top Senate recruits — a list that includes Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida, former Rep. Rob Simmons in Connecticut and Rep. Mark Kirk in Illinois, among others.

The Left will reflexively hate this show. "Nothing to see here, people. Nothing to see here…"
"just be sure not to ask anything that will paint us in a negative light….."
LOL…oh, the parallel is too delicious…
I will FIND a way to watch this at work…
*MissQuinn*
Wait a minute! Isn't that Farrakhan's mother wheel in earth orbit? So that's where odumbo came from.
Replace the "V" with an "O" and it pretty much nails the Hopey/Changey thing right on the head.
because you have common sense….
The network has already re-thought, cutting back production to the first 9 episodes before making a decision to continue or not continue the miniseries. Maybe they are already wondering what the WH will want to do with their FCC licenses.
Reviewers seems not to hate it overall (as if what they think really matters all that much)…they mention the possible anti-Obama interpretation, but the main complaint I've seen is the pilot is too rushed, cramming in too many characters. (NYT, LAT, Hollywood Reporter) I'll be watching regardless, but I pity a show that not only has to start its run against a World Series people seem to be watching avidly, but they're then going to take it off until spring(!) after airing only 4 episodes. Just glad there's something else on Tuesdays besides "Sons of Anarchy!"
“So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait — did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who’s come here to eat us?
What politician first comes to mind when you read this phrase:
1. Harry Waxman
2. Nancy Pelosi
3. <S>Michelle</S>Barack Obama
I like this one better!
Michelle Obama and Big Bird
http://usataxpayer.org/pagex.asp?Get=obamaeligibl...
Is that Morena Baccarin? HOT HOT HOT!
I'm hopeful but concerned that the network will find some way to turn this into a pro-Obama message.
You can watch it on the ABC website or Hulu.com if they put it up. I think they count that as part of their ratings.
Like how he couldn't resist the "teabagger" slur?
There are rumors going around that they had to tone down the Hopey-changy parallels so as not to aim too much at The One
Well…..perhaps Anita Dunn, while giving her high school speech. Watch the tongue…
Media control by the gov't…..never would happen in Obama's new America ; )
NCIS comes to mind.
Seriously, Tuesday is becoming the destination day for TV I like to watch, Thursday only has one (fading) show I still watch regularly – CSI (and I liked it better on Fridays anyway).
BAck in the mid 90's, there was at least one show I liked to watch on every weeknight (and NBC Thursday had the most). Now, not so much.
No doubt, Pelosi is an alien lizard….the blinking and very taught skin gives it away.
Strangely this show is getting outstanding reviews. Go figure.
Even Hollyweird's greed will eventually override their devotion to Obama. As polls fall we're seeing more and more negatives and jokes on TV….expect more as Hollyweird realizes the bulk of their paying audience is tired of Obama and tired of the anti-military and America is bad crap. They'll go where the money is eventually.
The problem for ABC, if they didn't intend 'V' to be a analogy for Obamamania, is the story is locked in place because it's a remake. Unless they're willing to kill the ratings by rewriting the show to swerve off in a totally different direction, they're stuck with a story line that's going to allow conservatives to tweak Obama supporters at least for the show's initial run (if they turn it into a regular series like NBC did where the story lines can be 'modified', then the odds are you'll start seeing stories showing evil traitors played by actors looking like dick Cheney or even Sarah Palin selling their own human race out to the lizard people … who it will be made clear, are nothing like the leaders of the current administration).
The really crazy thing is the Hittler Youth type group the visitors start up for the world's children and teens is called "Ambassadors of Hope". I hope this show is a huge hit but ABC has to be terrified about what das' fuhrer will do to them. Maybe a trip to the enemies list along with Fox?
Ha, I've been saying this since I first saw the full 2 minute trailer! I hope it stays with the theme because it's right on point these days. I loved the original (I was only 12-13 when it originally came out). And this one looks to be good – hopefully.
Are the creators of this one conservative? Because it seems rather bold to be writing stuff like this if they aren't. Bold and very brave. Can't wait for tonight.
Oh true—I never watched the original so saw no need to pick up the new one either, but everyone I know seems to watch it. I truly have run out of CSI love (And Hell's Kitchen's ranting at doofuses). I will confess that when i remember it's on I enjoy the cooking train wreck that is "Chopped" on the Food Network. Tides me over 'til Top Chef.
I have a feeling that's going to change. Once they conclude that in their opinion, it's a shot at Obama. The knives will come out.
Yes it is, she is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, couldn't take my eyes off of her in Firefly….
I guess this will give Obamanation the idea he needs to get rid of those ugly, ugly women he has in his cult. God knows he has a White House full of ugly. I guess that's why he's calling on Hollywood now. They know how to paint and fix up those liberal hags so that they look good on the outside.
Rats, forgot that one…a memorable video, in so many skin-crawling ways.
Oh, oh, oh. . .
So that's why Anita Dunn was cleaning her eyeballs with her tongue!
Holy Gecko Droppings!
Eew, she's so gross.
Sounds interesting, but did it have to be a remake of the old "V" show from the 80s?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_(The_Original_Mini...
Trust but verify.
Abso-MF'in-lutely! Why the hesitation?
The original was a replay of the fascist takeovers done in Europe during WWII. That's one of the reasons one of the early main characters was a elderly Jewish man who kept seeing the parallels between the two. If people interpret this as anti-Obama and hitting too close to home, then maybe there are some very real reasons why. Vs very similar to Hitler's rise to power very similar to what's currently happening in this country … the truth sometimes hurts.
Since I was one of the two dedicated viewers the first time this show was on, I was happy about the return. Unfortunately, I am not hopeful that the message will be consistent. No harm in hoping though.
I am so excited about this. DVR is set!!
It looks like I finally have something worth watching on TV at night. At least until it turns into just another soap opera.
Joe S. Here- Big Hollywood Agent Provocateur Reporting:
I've posted before about how I live and work in this Hollywood Leper Colony of Cokehead Liberalism, heck, I was even born here.
So here's the scoop, as much as I can divulge right now: The executive team that put this particular show together are not your typical Liberal Arts/Film School grads from some politically-correct University. One of these guys has real world pedigree as someone who started a small business from nothing and has experienced trying to meet a payroll on behalf of devoted employees.
This person isn't a GOPer, per se, but there is definitely a committed Jeffersonian Libertarianism here. Sorry for being so cryptic BH fans, but I might lose my buddy card to spill any more specific details.
Imagine if this had come out 8 months ago when the MSM was still avidly fawning over PEBO. This is actually the perfect time to release this when the WH has so many parallel incidents that flow right into the storyline. They have to be amazed at the level of similarities of a series they began filing over two years ago when no one even dreamed the climate in Washington would be what it is today.
interestingly enough there might be more here than meets the eye…
In poular UFO lore- and also in other esoteric tales, there is a race of ET lizards who settled here a long time ago. According to legend they are evil, and also behind our 'shadow' government. They are inhabitants of the Fourth Dimension, and can time travel. Shape shift as well.
According to some sources 'V', the original series, was written by someone who had a high ranking military contact who gave them the story line. The new series is supposed to coincide with Disclosure of alien presence on earth.
Sounds wild. But true believers are all over this and it's supposed to happen soon, maybe this year. After all, it is kinda silly to think we the only intelligent race in the cosmos.
And we use the term 'intelligent' loosely…
"V" is like a replay of the November 08 election. Stupid humans in search of hope and change by following an alien charlatan who is offering them something for nothing.
Here here. To paraphrase Deadpool, "Your Commonsense is tingling"
Me neither.
Hotness incarnate.
Either there are conservative writers for this show, or the liberal writers are just too stupid to have seen the comparisons their story would bring. I'm guessing the latter. Problem is, they are choosing to start it against game 6 of the world series which is usually where networks put shows they want to DIE.
I had e-mailed via the suggestion link the other day about this after seeing the previews, little did I know you guys were already on it! Good job!
This show is a repeat from over ten years ago and the basic story has not changed. This is hardly a show targeting Obama. However, it does fit the mold of the idiot masses getting caught up in smooth talking snake oil salesmen, which does include self-serving smug arrogant radical leftist Obama.
I loved the orginal V. I am looking forward to this one. I hope that ABC sticks with it . back when it first aired I could see the connection to WWII and the rise of Hitler. My guess is that when the new V was made no one thought it would closely resemble what is going on now in our own Goverment. How many of us think that we need to go underground for what we believe in, to fight the enemies within just to keep our freedoms? We will not go quietly. I am ready to fight the lizard people.
It is great that there are guys like you and your buddy in LaLa land. We are praying for you. I mean it. Being in your business is like being in a nest of vipers. I use to work in the educational system, there is a lot of vipers there too. and I don't mean the kids.
No way, just ask Chris Wallace…
Ivan
True zen koan: What is the sound of a million lefty heads exploding?
I don't know but it looks like a V.
She might be hot, but can she be as 'hot-evil' as Jane Balder was as the original HBIC Diana?
Diana was like the bizarro Grace Kelly.. Super hot and super EVIL..
That said, I will watch anything featuring _Firefly_ alumni.
Maybe ABC is still stinging over "the truth about 9/11" movie that The Clintons fought so hard to make sure never see a DVD release?
SWEET.
*MissQuinn*
After the original miniseries, "V" went downhill very quickly and never lived up to its potential. I'm ordinarily against remakes, but this strikes me as the perfect candidate for that reason.
Thanks for the intel, Joe.
Keep us posted about any other tidbits you can find.
*MissQuinn*
I thought the exact same thing. Still makes me shudder.
I am SO watching this show!!
I watched the original cheesy V series but hope this new V will wash the bad memories of the former away.
Looks great so far!
You cannot go wrong by using the cast from "Firefly." Just look at how good Nathan Fillion is in "Castle." There was a rumor for awhile that Joss Whedon wanted to use Baccarin for his remake of "Wonder Woman," but the project got shelved– again.
I LOVED this show in the 80's (sadly I'm old enough to remember it well) and I have so been looking forward to this. The whole skewering of the hope/change thing is just a beautiful bonus.
critics are waiting for marching orders from nobelbozo
[...] Chicago Tribune: ABC’s ‘V’ Takes Aim at ObamaMania This entry is filed under America – Blogs, Big Hollywood. You can follow any responses to this [...]
Set the DVR for abc@7, oh yeah. I'm glad to see Elizabeth Mitchell as the star. If they kill her off like they did on LOST I'll be one unhappy camper.
I always knew Obama was a flesh-eating lizard in humans clothing!
It IS yummy isn't it? and how it's followed by the "excuse me?" look of the reporter..I haven't seen that inquisitive look from a reporter in a while…LOL
While I was no fan of the whole Star Child thing in The Final Battle, Kenneth Johnson's alternate ending (See V: The Second Generation in paperback) isn't exactly as satisfying either. Major characters are missing and the explanation for their disappearance is lackluster at best. While it answers the question about who would respond to the message that was sent out at the end of the Original, again, it seems lackluster.
One big question was – what happened to Robin's child? Instead of a Star Child we get no explanation as to what happened to her or her baby, plus we get human-V hybrids like everywhere, which is more biologically impossible given we are two different species and I believe Diana had to re-work Brian in order for him to impregnate Robin in the first place.
So, yes, this is a good candidate, as it also updates things. I am looking forward to it, even with the hiatus. I'm actually pretty patient. If I can wait for LOST, I can wait for this.
When I saw the promo of this, I was struck by the parallel also.
I might have to actually check this show out.
Those aliens are obviously racist!
Why isn't Big Hollywood doing a live chat?
That was my thought, too. What do you want to bet during the space between airings that they’re forced to change it?
Jane Badler was much better as HBIC Diana!
LOL!
I was wondering if the aliens had landed when I saw her for the first time.
Holy Lizard Lips!
[...] Hollywood: Chicago Tribune: ABC’s ‘V’ Takes Aim at ObamaMania: Big Hollywood covered this back in May, but it seemed too good to be true. It still seems too good [...]
yep, NCIS is the best!!!! (and I thought so before the masses discovered it!)
NCIS-LA is acceptable then I switch over to The Forgotten. the Good Wife is not my pick.
I watch CSI if I am home and don't have a new book – it used to be a must-watch or record.
Castle is all I follow on Monday. Wednesday has Criminal Minds.
Other than painting "NOT OBAMA" on Diana's forehead, it would be difficult.
Their best hope of killing it off quickly is poor editing and just jiggering the ratings, as they are known to do.
——"Why So Socialist?"
I LOVED V not only because of the (at the time) cutting edge special effects, but also the haunting message that fascism CAN subtly conquer an unwitting democracy.
The fact the "V" remake maintains this theme in the "Obama Era" shows that God has a great sense of humor.
As a kid I loved V. To now have a remake that takes swipes at our jugeared despot really is too good to be true. I hope there's a hideous creature named Nelosi; If they kick Hussein in the balls enough I'll buy the set on DVD.
When I saw some of the earlier promos, the ones with Morena Baccarin promising everything under the sun, my first thought was she sounded like a 'progressive'. I hope that it is less overtly political and more based on morality tales such as "you can't get something for nothing" and "don't subsume personal liberty for the collective". I'll be watching since I am a sci-fi junkie and I hope its good.
Best line from the commercials I've caught: "They're using the best weapon–devotion." It's funny to look at the comments on the Tribune page where the libs are trying to say that the show was in the making during the spring and so wouldn't reflect Obama's efforts at all (someone should tell the Nobel committee that). Even better is that they're the same type of folks who look back at everything from "Star Wars" to the original "Red Dawn" and "Rambo III" as allegories/cautionary tales about W's Presidency and American imperialism. The best bit of self-delusion I've run across in the news about this show is how many liberals justify that thought because they actually think the press was either at the beck and call of Dubya or too soft on him.
Actually Slate already has a review and acknowledged that it could be anti-Obama but then sort of dismissed it and didn't really give it much credence. I think most of them are going to do that, and then later decide if they like the show. If the show is really good, but they bash it anyway, that will be their subtle way of believeing that it's anti-Obama and that will be the real reason they don't like it. But if the show is bad, it's bad and no amount of anti-Obama or anything else will make me watch it. And that'll be the same for many people.
BTW, EdSki – I'm a pre-9/11 moderate liberal myself, and a post 9/11 conservative/libertarian! Welcome to the club, my brother!
Unfortunately, he winds up going along with it, or so the reviews say. Perhaps he'll have that final change of heart the way Christine did in the original – only to be killed after his "usefulness" has worn out its welcome, just like Christine.
My thoughts exactly. I thought, "Well, THIS is interesting…." I wonder how long it will last, though, before the Obamabots shut it down.
Yes it is…the Companion from Firefly…damn I miss that show.
OMG!
The WH must be going NUTS! over this…
Marc Singer needs a cameo…
Add my prayers and appreciation. It is gratifying to know that there are some of "us" out there in L.A. trying to get the truth out. THAT'S my kind of "hope and change"!
dcase,
Can you point to any websites or blogs that corroborate this? I'm not doubting that you've heard these things. I'd just like to see if I can track some of this info down.
Well, there may be enough of us out there who don't watch baseball to counteract the placement of the show against the WS. For example, I LOVE college football and watch it avidly. I hate baseball – too slow and not enough violence for me. I'd probably watch paint dry before watching baseball. (Not to mention that I hate the Yankees because Steinbrenner is a deadbeat and an a$$.) People like me will be watching V!
Yes, He certainly does, Fred2!
Erick, the reviewer on Slate tried to say that the media-bias in the show proves that such bias is more about one's career (because that is the question posed to the Chad character when Anna tells him only to ask nice questions) than about ideology.
I think it's a little bit of both.
Also, if you happen to have a copy of the original Star Wars novel, read the prologue. It sounds eerily like what is happening to our country right now – the fall of the Old Republic.
I wonder if the program's visitors will be like ours and eat our young.
People, listen to yourselves. We now live in a country where the conservative people who have made this country great are outcasts to our government, Hollywood, the Main Media and 95% of the new immigrants that have arrived here in the past 35 years. We have been kicked in the teeth by these people so many times that we know what to expect from them. We are forced to listen to their agenda as the best thing for this country and we are ignored by them when we try to present a common sense agenda that made this the greatest country on earth until these past few years. How sad for our kids and grandkids. Freedom of Speech is only for the progressives (liberals), socialists, and radical.
OH – MY – GOD
i just finished reading a book , ALIEN POWERS by KENNETH MINOGUE, an intellectual book by a political scientist about ideology. the paradigm is exactly the same. liberal ideology is the same evil controlling force it has ever been…. see the intellectual discussion about this marxist, ideology that is what we are seeing now, this "V" show summed it all up by showing the paradigm…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CIOSkrfRC4
Hmmmmm, maybe I got it wrong when I heard they had to cut Barney Frank's tail off so he could make his way to the House floor to cast his votes.
ok…
we were a little afraid of this question… basically just google 'reptilians' 'annunaki' and 'planet x' 'nibiru'. Don't want to sound like a crackpot; these are issues of conjecture only. That said, we stumbled across the 'V' thing recently, can't quite recall where. But the reptilian shape shifter thing is David Icke's baby, and it does seem to have historical antecedents. Satan, as properly conjured, is reptilian in nature, as are 'demons'.
Icke has a LOT of youtubes you can watch, there is AboveTopSecret.Com as well.
Basically, just start researching. You might be surprised what you will find. The buzz is the Disclosure Project and the imminent release of alien presence. You can try Project Camelot on that.
Good luck…
sons of anarchy is a suprise fave of mine. I gave it a small shot last year, and have continued on with it.
i'll catch up on the election when it's over
Who knew Peg Bundy had such drama chops??
The whole bit about the aliens infiltrating our society reminds me more of "They Live" than V. I saw a preview of the next episode where the human collaborators go on CNN and sing songs of praise to the aliens. Mmm mmm mm
Get Marc Singer a cameo? Hell, get Adam Baldwin a cameo!
Too busy slamming Sesame Street! ;-D
Sort of my point.
I see the sci-fi babes of today, and they pale in comparison to the babes of the 80s and 70s.
I'll put Ms. Baldar, Erin Gray and Pamela Hensly over Ms. Baccarin, Trica Hefler and Grace Park.
V was awesome!!! I loved every minute of it….
Oh boy did the show scream Obama. Anna cajoling for an only positive questions interview was the exclamation point of Obama's declaration of war against FOX.
"The road to change is always difficult"
The first thing to do is check the passenger manifest for the flight on which they arrived….think about it.
I caught a piece of the show and was SO PSYCHED that just a two minute viewing showed the aliens try to win favor by offering universal health care to humans. I swear, they even underlined it, as an anchor says "You mean universal health care?" To which the alien spokeswoman says "Yes, you can call it that."
I LOLd.
She is developing the character nicely, Perlman is aces as well, being the guy who is starting to feel his age, yet wants to hang on.
I just like it. And it is rare for me to keep up on a show regularly.
Totalitarian space lizards – is there any other kind?
I'd restrain myself from harping on the apparent similarities between these aliens and the Obama administration. Apparently the aliens cure diseases and help a few people to show their solidarity, albeit a phony one, with humans. The Obama administration shows a phony solidarity too, but then just wrecks everything and helps no one.
But the Messianic worship of both parties is spot on as apparently the aliens are a cult of personality like Obama and Stalin are/were. Can't wait to catch the show.
I'm waiting to see them swallow progressive bunnies whole!
Just finished watching it! It was pretty good. Obviously, they had to get out the "twist" ahead of time since most of the people watching it have seen the original. So we know their lizards already. But the extra twist was the "sleeper cell" – kind of post 9/11. They just haven't gotten to the "How to Serve Man" yet.
As for the "conservative" bent – the Universal Health Care thing was pretty obvious. But the rant from the resistance guy also included mentions of "unnecessary wars" and "religious extremism". Now, it could be in a good way – that Iraq wasn't really Bush's fault, it was b/c the aliens caused us to do it. And the religious extremism could be Islam.
Other than that, I thought it was pretty good and they've gotten my attention. I'd like to see where it goes from here.
Don't these morons know that V is a 20 year old remake?
It has nothing to do with Obama.
I was worried because I am a HUGE fan of the original. It was meh the first half but made up for it during the scene where FBI agent Erica thinks she's infilltraited a terrorist cell and finds out about the "V's". I liked the twist of them being here all along involved in everything from the financial crisis to terrorism. They created a mess in the world and then come to Earth to be our saviors. I near spit my water when the V's Anna mentioned change and Universal Health Care. Also the whole devotion thing, obviously blind devotion thing.
I guess that lizard lady will be advoiding Fox News like the plague!
Color me unimpressed by "V". I fell asleep.
More like "Z" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I wasn't going to watch the show; remakes are never as good as the original. Now I guess I'll watch it to see if it really is anti-Obama.
I wonder if that was the game plan ( to get people to watch ) all along, with the "oh it's antiObama" trope.
"Universal Health Care"?
Hell with that! I want Intergalactic Health Care and a clone of that hottie alien.
They tell us the prez didn't watch the election returns last night. What do wanna' bet the Narcissus-in-Chief was watching V? Probably looking for pointers on world domination!
Yeah, bringing back V and updating it to be a show about masses of followers blindly obeying supposedly perfect creatures who promise universal healthcare has nothing to do with Obama. Okay, sure.
The great feeling I had watching this show last night was that no matter how much false hope they promise and how much the media is in the tank they can be defeated. This fun pointed piece of fiction coupled with the election results it was an inspiring night. I think we're going to do this! We're going to defeat this neo-socialist nonsense coming out of the Democrats.
She could be Malkin or Ingraham…. Why do you think it won't go that way?
Flash backward, the Evil Malkin/Ingraham character reveals her evil plot.. Make nice and the opposite of what she actually is, a free market, racist, human flesh devouring lizard, in order to infiltrate and take over earth and set up a highly profitable galactic meat market. The Government, and only the government comes to the rescue.
Ya know why cant we just have a show with out getting preached at from one side or another. I know what I believe, and I dont need to receive affirmation or criticism. I just want a show to be a show.
Having said that. It did seem that V was a rather stinging commentary on the dangers of a nanny state.
We watched "V" as a family and I enjoyed it a lot, even apart from the delicious parallels to Obama's fascism. The actors are terrific and the special effects were modest and really well done.
Best of all, we had a "teachable moment" with our kids. We explained about universal health care offered by the Vs, and how it's just what we're fighting against with Obama. "Oh," said my son, "They act like they're going to heal you, but they really are going to eat you."
Yep, pretty much, son.
BTW, EdSki – I'm a pre-9/11 moderate liberal myself, and a post 9/11 conservative/libertarian! Welcome to the club, my brother!
Word!
I'm disappointed that "Wash" and "Inara" are the bad guys… :-/
I just can't picture Wash as a bad guy. He's just too likable.
And those TV critics can go get eaten by the lizards for all I care
Brilliant acting, PERFECT Casting so far… (I wasn't so sure about th'e teenage boy until they got the 'free trip' and the pamphlet.)
And the best part… lots of conservative arguments got through. Although as I told someone else, the original series/movies always included a pre-movie note about the show being "dedicated to freedom fighters"
Me neither… but apparently he plays a bad guy in Dollhouse too… I was excited he was going to be in this series and now I'm disappointed…
Oh well I will still watch the show, just because it's good….. so far…
Give this program one year, a change of key people and it will jump the shark and the writer's will take their marching orders from ABC… The lizard people never wanted to eat anyone… that was just right wing, tin-foil-hat, paranoid clap-trap propogated by an unregulated Internet.
I know this series has been in the works since 2007, but you have to wonder if the some of the dialogue was updated this past year. I laughed my ass off when the reporter said universal health care. Although the show could have been over when the female FBI agent killed here "V" partner. She could have brought the reptile body to the press and announced who they were.
Go to your local, usually non-university and big enough to have more than a handful of books, library and look up the "unexplained" section. There are tons of books on this subject. I am not saying I believe in any of this – just find it fascinating reading because of its imaginative possibilities.
Comcast where I live had a black screen with sound for the first 13 minutes before resuming normally. (ABCHD)
Sort of ruined the whole experience when I went to watch it on Tivo later.
Typical network, no rebroadcast showing up in the program guide.
This was a strange and never before seen type of outage.
Hmm, anyone else?
"She could have brought the reptile body to the press and announced who they were."
They did something like that in the original, but it still didn't work. The V's manipulated the masses by saying it was all a hoax done by the resistance and killed any scientists that would back the claims.
The interview only got better after that. Lizard Lady mentioned something about everyone getting medical assistance, to which the reporter asked "Do you mean 'Universal Healthcare". Lizard Lady's reply – "Yes, I believe that's what you call it".
I didn't catch what was said right after that – we were all laughing too much.
Spoiler Alert:
The show probably culminates when the "V" aliens propose a health care bill that is revealed to be a cookbook.
I watched this series the first time when I was 11 years old and loved it and then watching it last night, we laughed the whole hour because of the scary parallels to the "O"'s. The interview with Anna was spot on!
I have a sneaking suspicion that if it's successful, they'll eventually pull a "Battlestar Galactica" and suddenly change the whole tone of the series a few seasons in to retcon the bad guys into strawman (straw alien?) Republicans.
This is gonna be fun!
Heh, that's excellent!
trulyl this show is amazing…revealing obama for what he really is, a big lizard in fake human skin. loved the bit about 'universal health care'…we must resist! we must start a movement to stop the "Vs", the democrats with their alien dealth panels tryin to kill granny. did everyone see the scene in the show ehere the giant CROSS collapsed with the obamas i mean the visitors arrived? it is becaues the aliens are muslimsa nd made the cross fall because they hate jesus…truly a remakrable show for our time thank you
Funny how this show came out right after we saw that Maoist White House freak openly cleaning her eyeballs with her tongue in front of that high school graduation class!
Dunn, "Mmm, mmm, mmm, I see the class I'm eating."

diD anyone else nottice how much the evil demoCrat lizard laddy looked like RACHEL MADDOW? with a lezzie alien haircut, short on hair short on morals i always say! shame on everyone who doesn't watch this. this is the beginning of the resistance and you must STAY TUNEND thank you
The original "V" was a not so subtle slam of Statism. So, if hhh is unnerved by the Visitors' similarities to the Obama Administration, then he should ask "Am I unwittingly working for the bad guys in this fight?"
Ouch!
The original "V" was political commentary disguised as sci-fi action that ruthlessly slammed the "Nanny State" mindset. So, you can't get mad at the remake's creators for being true to that theme.
I'm not a big Sci Fi fan but I hope this takes off. I've loved Elizabeth Mitchell ever since "Frequency", I'd love to see her every week.
Of course, the Lamestream Media (a.k.a Fringe Media) would denounce the reptile corpse as a hoax created by those "bitter clingers of guns and God."
Here's the sad irony. In the original "V," the main hero was a member of the news media, who would be willing to challenge the V's creeping Statism. In our century, the "Lamestream Media" is so in the tank with Statists that they are as bad as the man-eating V's. In keeping with the updating, the main hero in the "V" remake is part of the CIA, a popular whipping boy of the Statists.
Yeah, this show is going to the get LOTS of buzz around the water cooler.
Remakes are not always worse than the original. Look at the enormous success of "Battlestar Galactica." It got wonderful reviews and had a tremendous following. I saw the "V" premier last night and I thought it showed great promise.
Oh, one other thing – I do agree with some critics who complained that there was so much packed into the first hour.
It seemed like they did pack in so much, I'm not quite sure where they go from here: the "terrorist" sleeping cell is revealed to be anti-V, it is believed and then proven that the Vs are already here (the black guy and the partner FBI agent), etc. I mean, I like a fast pace, but they lumped a lot in one episode. I wished they would drag it out a bit. Not as much as LOST did the first couple of seasons, but enough to make me want to tune in more. Don't show it all up front . . . unless there is some other twist. I mean, everything doesn't have to be a twist, but a little surprise here and there is nice.
In the Original, there were a couple of twists – the fact that they were reptiles, then that they were here to steal our water, and lastly that they were here to collect us as food and cannon fodder. In this episode we've gotten the reptile thing, that they've already been here. The last thing I think they could have waited to tell us because that would be like the "eating" thing updated.
Still going to watch it though.
No, now that I've seen it, there's no escaping that their leader is Obama. If they try to backpedal now, the show will blow apart and tank.
Kenneth Johnson's original message of individuals banding together to fight a monolithic, but polished, evil is still there.
And now, the stand-in for the old Diana is Obama.
Funny how cynical the liberal "critics" can be when the show in question looks to be telling a biopic of our dear leader. I heard nothing but praise for Will Farrell when he did his little play about how dumb GW Bush was. The movie "W" was a hit with the libs in Hollywood – you know the ones who never graduated from high school let alone college. Law and Order almost regularly attacks the Bush admin on abortion, homeland security, war, torture and all that is heard is praise for shedding light on the "issues". I for one have become a fan of "V". What? Liberals… you don't like to be mocked?
as do we.
This is conjecture, plain and simple. But fascinating? You bet. Particularly if you do a timeline thing predating ancient Sumeria and start connecting the dots. THEN it gets very interesting…
Magically delicious!
But Pinky: The ORGINAL series had a few 'lefty' cliches: the Vistors ensignias were 'digital swastikas' if you look closely; and a couple of the protagonists were also lefty: 'Beast Master Guy' was an independent journalist who loved to muck around with the FMLN in El Salvadore; the Priest character was a 'liberation theologist adherent' who actually served with the ANC in an 'imaginary rural insurgency'–heck he even said he killed an SADF soldier to 'protect an innocent'…
I loved the original series. I had the TIVO set last night for "V" but TIVO records in sequence and I'd asked the machine to record two other shows so it didn't record "V". DAMN! I hope they rerun it.
The above review reminds me of a Tammy Bruce comment regarding "Mars Attacks", how she laughed like crazy the first time she saw it but after 9-11, "Mars Attacks" seemed prescient not funny. I felt the same way watching the ads for "V".
I don't watch everything with colored "conserative" glasses. And in general, I won't put a political spin on the entertainment shows I watch.
I enjoyed it, simple as that. I even enjoyed watching the new series last night.
Not sure what your counter-point is about.
Interesting how this show is viewed as taking aim at "Obamamania" Could it be that "Obamamania is the one mirroring something else? The show is just a statement on fascism itself. The original screenplay was based on 'It Can't Happen Here', right? That it's about the rise of fascism in Germany and how that could play out in America.
In the New Republic review, the author states not just that the show is "a love letter to tea party protesters," and indicative of right-wingers "world view" but also that he's "really not sure how this made it onto network television."
Exactly. How is it possible that a show with supposedly conservative or libertarian principles (we'll see about that in the end — just as anyone who watched all seasons of 24) get on mainstream TV? It's madness, right?
Talk about a statement indicative of someone's world view, eh?
Pinky the creators of the show verbally said as much…hard to choose a more hackneyed 'cliche' than 'the new Nazis'…
I enjoyed it!
And if it parallels reality it's only following the original. It's Obama-mania that imitates 'V', not the other way around!
Excellent point. I hardly remember the original as I was only 8, but I remember being transfixed by it. In the run up to the show, before it aired, I read some literature on the original and learned (as I couldn't have realized as a child) that it was an allegory of fascism and how when it comes (as anyone who has studied Mussolini or the early stages of nazism knows) it comes on parade, masked as a savior and revolution of young and idealistic progressives. From my understanding ( I PVRed it and will watch it tonight) the ABC show doesn't differ much from that original theme. The Obamamaniacs obviously aren't comfortable with what this reminds them of. This seems like purely a case of the truth hurting..
I was never a fan of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and I don't talk about that which I don't know about, so I'll take your word for it.
I really liked the original V, but am now going to give the new one a try, just because the lefties are saying that it's anti-Obama.
Of course you like NCIS. Most cats like shows based in New York. Its a true fact.
LOLzz Move along now…. lol nice comment.
My impression of Bill Clinton " well ya see if we had this Fairness Doctrine none of this would be tolerated"
Boo hiss BJ boy!
If I'm not mistaken, didn't the Sleeper Cell people discuss the V's plan of creating "political unrest" and an "economic meltdown" as part of their path to domination? Also, when asked about their home planet, Anna, their leader, responded with "our planet is not divided into countries, it is one singular government". Ameros anyone?
I think this show appears to be more equal opportunity. In the show, they said the V's were responsible for needless wars. That would seem a shot more at republicans than democrats. Or more likely, there is no hidden message, it's just a piece of entertainment.
