Fabulous BBQ around Austin, some places in the outskirts date back 100 years and more. Generally people are really nice, I stay out of Dallas and Houston mostly. They can be tough in places like any other big cities.

Well…I hear tell that there is some mighty good BBQ in the Peoples Republik of Austin. Many years ago I drove thru OK and Northern TX on I-40, went past that Big Texas, I believe it's called, steakhouse, in I think Amarillo. Me and my Pop didn't stop. Also I don't remember if I told you, I was in the Houston area. One thing I noticed about Texas, is that everything, to me, seemed to be spread far apart, as I'm from New Jersey, where everything seems compact. I guess it is all a matter of perspective, but I did like the people I met there. It's much more friendlier than New England, as I'm sure anyone who has been to both will attest.
Good luck with school, God Bless your folks, mine are in their 70's, and let us enjoy and savor, as fellow Yankee fans, another World Series Championship. Indeed. as you put it 27 outs to #27! GO BOMBERS!!!

27 outs to #27! I'm an "extreme" west Texan, in El Paso aka almost Mexico. I lived in Austin for many years and my siblings live there now. My octogenarian parents live in El Paso so I'm here now, also finishing (finally) school. My brother is an iverterate Astros fan (?) so I've been to a handful of Astros games, the new place is nice. I go as a Cubs fan just to irratate him. After grad school I'll be going east, probably back to Austin, I want to work for the party so that means returning to the mothership, Austin, liberal haven.

Ginger could do it all. She could dance and sing: "Swing Time," "Follow the Fleet," "Top Hat," and so on. She could do drama: "Kitty Foyle," for which she won the Academy Award for best actress. And she could do light comedy: "Bachelor Mother" (my personal favorite) and "The Major and the Minor." Plus, she was gorgeous!

3 W's down 1 more to go. A Fantastic finish in Philly!!! Johnny Damon with the heads up steal of second and then third, I think, shook up Lidge, who gave Astro fans nightmares. Do you live near Houston? Anyhow, the crowd that was chanting "Yankees S**k," sure got quiet in a hurry in the top of the 9th. WS #27 is within their grasp.

US admiral concerned about China military buildup
HONG KONG — A U.S. Navy admiral expressed new concern Friday over China's military buildup and urged Beijing to be clearer about its intentions.

With China's military growing at an "unprecedented rate," the U.S. wants to ensure that expansion doesn't destabilize the region, Rear Adm. Kevin Donegan told reporters on a visit to the Chinese territory of Hong Kong.

Donegan referred to China's expanded weaponry. His remarks echoed the concerns of other U.S. military leaders who have said the growth in China's military spending — up almost 15 percent in the 2009 budget — raises questions about how Beijing plans on deploying its new power.

Scozzafava ex-spokesman speaks out
Matt Burns, former spokesman for Dede Scozzafava’s defunct campaign for Congress, said his old boss was wrong to endorse Democrat Bill Owens in a conference call with conservative bloggers Sunday evening.

“That is not something I agreed with, henceforth, I’m participating on this call,” Mr. Burns said on a conference call that was arranged by the American Conservative Union political action committee.
