Happy Halloween. This might be a little too scary for some: Michelle Obama is the MOST BEAUTIFUL, WELL DRESSED, BEST MANNERED, CLASSIEST First Lady… Ever!!!
The title comes from a comment I read on a blog. I have a real Halloween video, too, that was made a while ago.
"I never drink…vine…"
Bela Lugosi, a great man. He had to flee his native country in fear of his life because of an opressive government. He came to America and became an American citizen. He was so proud of that and this country. He would be so sad to see what's happening today under Obama. I will enjoy watching several of his films today. Bela, more patriotic and twice the man our current president is, Rest in Peace, Bela.

Bela Lugosi was originally cast as the monster in Frankenstein. They outfitted him with a wig and
coated him with clay. He tottered around the set in a series of screen tests..but even the stage hands
couldn't stop laughing. The filming of "Frankenstein" was cancelled until that fatefull lunch where the
director Jim Whale noticed a middle aged man eating by himself in the Universal Cafeteria…….the one
and only William Pratt….aka Boris Karloff.
We must become our own leaders, the politicians should be seen as "personal assistants" taking care of necessary evils, house hold chores if you will. I was not put here to follow any man, I know what is best for me, not some corrupt person in Washington D.C.
PULL DA STRING! PULL DA STRING!
Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make…..I wonder if Dracula wasn't referring to the other blood suckers in Congress. Talk about the undead.
If you want some scary reading, read the PelosiCare bill:

No less props to Bela, but my personal apogee was "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"…
Chuck Jones directed, Boris Karloff narrated…
Epic Win for All Time!!!!!
I have become jaded after all these years…
The only thing that scares me now is stupid people in large groups…
Like a legislature…
He was a fine actor both in film and Stage, to bad that he was so typed cast with Dracula, Its been done many, many times over the years buy many many actors. He defined the role. What ever problems he may have had in life, he is a member of a very small group that gained emortal status on the screen. Not bad not bad at all.
Bela Lugosi's Dead.
Since we're on "Open Thread"…
Is everyone prepared for the troll onslaught if conservatives sweep the fill-in races over the next few days?
Fresh Troll for Everyone!!!!
BREAKING NEWS: Scozzafava Drops Out Of NY-32 Race!!!
Poor Bela. Despite his early fame, Universal locked him out of their Dracula sequels. By the late 40s he was laboring in Poverty Row cheapies, addicted to morphine. And of course, ended up in no less than three Ed Wood movies.
Martin Landau was absolutely perfect as Bela in Burton's Ed Wood movie. If you haven't seen it, check it out.
Happy Halloween, all!
My friends and I are dressing like Obama Brownshirts tonight. I live in a leftist town, so I don't know how people will react to seeing brown military shirts with the O on a band around our arms.
We'll see!
Yeah!
Somewhere in Wisconsin, Arkansas and Iowa, honest God-fearing farm women have been cheated out of three years worth of wardrobe.
every time we see Bela Lugosi we can't help thinking of the great running gag from Tim Burton's brilliant 'Ed Wood'. Every time he (Johnny Depp's Ed Wood) mentions Lugosi's name- no matter to whom- the response is the same…
"Lugosi? I thought he was dead"
Next to Christopher Lee best Dracula ever. Lee did more films- and they were all good…
Does this site really get that many trolls? It doesn't seem that way to me. It must not be getting linked to enough other sites.
Eh…while I of course support your right to the costume of your choice, remember that to many you will appear to be dressed as Nazis, so be prepared to take crap for being anti-semitic goons as opposed to just for your anti-Obama sentiment. (That's of course assuming people in your town are educated enough to know what the SA was)
They won't even blink an eye. It's normal tho them.
Beware, beware, beware of the big, green dragon that sits on your doorstep.
"The Children of the night, what music theyyyyy maaaaakeeeee.." SHUDDER!
My favorite Dracula is Gary Oldman. But then Max Shrek played the most correct "Dracula", as Count Orlock in Nosferatu.
Lets not count chickens before they hatch. That race in NJ is very tight and so is the Hoffman contest.
13 GREATEST HAUNTED HOUSE MOVIES OF ALL TIME by L.B. "Oscar" Mayer
The Haunted House film has long been a part of the American cinema, although it's been awhile since an American film has been made that featured actual ghosts and not demons, psychos, witches and other occult staples. Here you'll find a lucky 13 ghost/haunted house films all once available on video. They range from the truly terrifying to the endearingly lightweight. Which ever are to your tastes, Halloween week is the best week of the year to enjoy them.
THE INNOCENTS
Deborah Kerr gives a brilliant performance in this truly disturbing film. A palpable sense of stark dread is apparent from the very beginning. Set in the 19th century English countryside, Kerr is the new governess for two young children who may or may not be in mortal danger. Masterfully photographed in black and white and based upon Henry James "Turn of the Screw".
THE HAUNTING
Robert Wise, the director of "The Sound of Music", brings to 'life' this frightening venture into the realm of the undead. Claire Bloom, Julie Harris and company, have come to spend some quality time at Hill House. Another near flawless production with a 'handful' of moments that all who have seen this production always recall with a shudder. A 'lights on for a week' film. Watch for….the door!
THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE
Despite it's "B" movie title and gruesome box art (which illustrates the film's only gory moment), this is a superb, claustrophobic, and at times, sexual film, again with a group of people gathered together within the dank walls. Pamela Franklin, who some few years earlier had costarred in "The Innocents", is among those present to rid the house of it's spirits. Roddy McDowell also stars.
THE SHINING
Although much maligned by Stephen King fans, "The Shining" is one of the best haunted house (or hotel) films of recent years. With it's overwhelmingly oppressive sense of horror always present, the film, despite it's much quoted and inappropriate comic lines from Jack Nicholson, is constantly clutching at your throat. A gripping picture regardless of it's flaws.
THE WOMAN IN BLACK
Perhaps the least known of all the films discussed here, this British production concerns a young man who is assigned the task of visiting a remote English home in order to prepare the estate for liquidation by the heirs. It's bad news from the moment the fog enshrouded dwelling appears on the screen. First quality and with several significant jolts, plus a dense sense of dread.
THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL
Far less intense than the above five classics, "HHH" features homeowner Vincent Price who has offered his guests major money if they spend the night in his spooky mansion. Lots of cut-rate shocks from producer William Castle, but creepy none the less. HHH is far from a masterpiece, yet it's recalled with a chill by those who have seen it. Elisha Cook, Jr. delivers the closing and qualifying line.
13 GHOSTS
This film was also the work of William Castle. You'll recognize Martin Milner in this spooky do. In it's original theatrical release, members of the audience were provided with "Illusion-O" glasses which permitted them to see the horrid assembly of ghosts. Other timid souls could remove the glasses and avoid the specters. On video, you have no choice! You MUST SEE the ghosts!!! Kind of a fun film and just a little schlocky, too. </b/

13 GREATEST HAUNTED HOUSE MOVIES OF ALL TIME by L.B. "Oscar" Mayer
THE UNINVITED
A masterpiece from 1944 and far different in texture than any of the above films. In this glossy and popular production, Ray Milland stars as a writer/composer who, along with his sister, buys an old English home that overlooks the sea. Mixing elements of romance with the quietly compelling aura of otherworldliness, "The Uninvited" is perhaps the only ghost story on film for which one can develop an affection and positively the only ghost story with a magnificent theme song by Victor Young. Gail Russell, Ruth Hussey and Donald Crisp costar.
THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR
Another 40's favorite with a fully developed romantic story line. Lovely young widow Gene Tierney purchases a large home for herself and her daughter, Natalie Wood, but the house is already occupied by the spirit of sailor Rex Harrison. The relationship between the two grows as the years pass during the course of this unique and at times sad film. As gentle and moving as a ghost story could possibly be.
THE CANTERVILLE GHOST
This is a charming family film, low on scare voltage (as it's meant to be) and with a beguiling story from the pen of Oscar Wilde. Three screen legends, Charles Laughton, Robert Young and little Margaret O'Brien compete for your attention in the tale of a ghost's descendant who must perform a brave deed before his ancestor will be freed from the castle in which his spirit is trapped. Laughton is the ghost and Robert Young, who was always so good with children on film, is the 'needs to do a brave deed' doer. O'Brien, as always, is appealing as can be.
THE GHOSTBREAKERS
This classic Bob Hope comic treasure is set in a spooky island castle crawling with zombies, ghosts, voodoo and hilarious one liners. If you are familiar only with the Bob Hope of later years, "THE GHOSTBREAKERS" will illustrate why the Hope legend has endured for so long. Full of laughs and snappy chills from beginning to end. You'll also enjoy the comedic talent of Willie Best and the buoyant beauty of Paulette Goddard. Anthony Quinn is also on hand. A fun, spookfest for all to enjoy.
THE GHOST GOES WEST
Director Rene Clair ("I Married a Witch") brings his light comedic touch to this British fantasy in which the high spirited ancestor of star Robert Donat haunts the castle recently purchased by American Eugene Pallette. Amusing and non-threatening, well mounted and perfect for those who want a ghost story that won't have them peering around every corner afterward.
THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES
Last, but not least, the classic comedy team of Abbott and Costello get together in one of their most unusual and finest productions. Lou Costello and pretty co-star Marjorie Reynolds are Revolutionary War spirits who haunt a country estate now inhabited by Bud Abbott and his friends. Filled with lots of good jokes and situations and a sense of heartfelt sincerity quite unlike the typical A&C film.
Doesn't this picture look a little like a young Chris Wallace?
I just read that myself HOORAAAY!!!!!
As much as I love Lugosi's Dracula, I recommend checking out the 1931 Spanish-language version that was shot at night after "Dracula" would wrap, on the same sets. It features snazzier lighting and camera work, actresss with lower bustlines, and is just such a curiosity that it's worth viewing. (And yes, the character names are appropriately spanish-ized: It's "Conde" Dracula, Juan Harker and Lucia instead of Lucy.)
Remarkably!
nice! let the REAL CHANGE BEGIN!
Republican Dede Scozzafava drops out of NY 23rd District. If this helps defeat the Democrat, good for her.
Now, if we can only get Chris Daggett in New Jersey to drop his vanity run and throw his support behind Republican Chris Christie, we can get rid of Obama apostle John Corzine. He's made his point, now make a deal with the Christie people. If Corzine wins, people will neither forget nor forgive what he did and he’ll never rise above small town mayor.
Please, Mr. Daggett don't be a spoiler like Ross Perot in 1992, whose vanity run siphoned votes from George Bush 41 and gave us 8 years of Bill Clinton
I sincerely doubt that.
Somewhere in Wisconsin, Arkansas and Iowa, there are honest, God-fearing farm women have been cheated out of three years worth of wardrobe.
<color=blue> Thanks for nothing, Michelle!</blue>
Happy Halloween. http://tinyurl.com/yjusvad
If I paint my face brown and stick a pole up my rear I could be a Obama pop for Halloween.
That is the idea. Perot was a spoiler on purpose. He reportedly hated GHW Bush. I wouldn't put it past the dems. now to do that in every election, and certainly the 2012 presidential election. It won't be pretty.
I saw The Uninvited a few days ago. Milland is one of my favorites. The movie was very well made with good pacing.
Above-
"Lugosi Smiles!"
Wonderful…Trolls.
I'm wearing a simple obama-joker mask. In SF. That should peeze off many a simple-minded libtard.
The vanity run is Corzine's; Dagget is the spoiler and he probably gets a suitcase full of cash if Corzine wins.
He and Karloff were truly greats…
Glad you enjoyed it. I just pulled out my copy and I think we will either watch it or THE INNOCENTS with Deborah Kerr. Ok – Deborah Kerr just pulled up, so we will watch her film.
Just curious…
Has the 3rd installment of the Esther Ralston story run yet? Please don't tell me I missed it!
THE INNOCENTS – madness, horror, evil, stark desperation, just empties you watching it. We're skipping THE UNINVITED and swapping in HOLLYWOOD HOTEL to unwind.
I think a lot of what Michelle Obama wears is fine, some of it's a miss, and the some of the casual wear she's been photographed in has been pretty bad, but I think the fawning of the mainstream media has been the worst of all. They aren't doing Michelle Obama a favor by fawning over her. All they are doing is encouraging people to be critical.
