“First let me state that I’ve been a fan of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for many years and, even though Larry David is a liberal, I generally enjoy the writing and Larry’s antics. However, this time what I saw made me feel a little sick, extremely disappointed and a bit angry as well. I will never watch the show again as I have lost all respect and feelings of good will for Mr. David.
“Did you happen to see the episode to which I refer? Assuming you did not catch the episode, briefly stated: Larry pisses on the face of a painting of Jesus Christ, followed by mocking of Christians who believe the piss drop on the face of Jesus is a tear, thus they’ve witnessed a miracle. I wonder how many other viewers, Christian and non Christian, are similarly shocked and disgusted? Of course, the hypocrisy is that Mr. David would never exhibit such gross contempt for any other religion, especially Islam.

If Larry David had any balls, he would mock fanatical Muslims who actually believe there are 72 virgins waiting for them if they blow themselves up with a bunch of innocent people. I stopped watching when they had the episode where a conservative was shown to be worse than a child molester.

Most Americans can identify with pissing on Jesus as opposed to Muhammed because there are more Christians than Muslims here. Thus, as an American, pissing on Jesus is funnier than pissing on Muhammed to me.

He didn't piss ON the painting… a drop splashed on a painting which happened to be located on the adjacent wall next to the toilet (which was a bit contrived… I'm not a Christian but I would consider it sacrilegious to mount a painting of Jesus in one's bathroom… that's just me).

He didn’t intentionally deface the picture, as you seem to describe. It was unintentional, and the fallout was not a strike at Christians, IMHO. I agree that the episode was a little over the top, and strong for my tastes, but I’m a Christian, and didn’t consider it a overt swipe at my faith.
The first two seasons of Curb were genius, and I've always thought the show was much better than Seinfeld. However, the new season has been a huge disappointment. I was offended by the new episode's jab at Christians, but Larry has done it many times in previous seasons (Cheryl's Christian family was ripped on often; the episode with the "Passion of the Christ" nail) so it wasn't that shocking.
May the retriubution be swift and sure.
It is cheap, but it did play along with the theme of inadvertant bad luck that usually goes into his shows.
I do like his show, it's just that Christianity is such an easy target it gets boring after a while.

HBO is useless — Bill Maher is a classic example. They think stuff like this is "cutting edge" — THEY ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS IS WITTY — give them a break, in a world of youtube, DVD's, pay-per-view, Red Box, online movie premieres, they are more and more irrelevent. People like David Letterman and Joy Behar, Janeane Garofalo, Sandra Bernhardt, Tina Fey — they should go there to live out the rest of their tired, bitter, lives — the "retirement home" for worn out, crude, un-funny, humor.
HBO — you are not cutting edge anymore — you are boring and predictable and just mean, like Bill Maher.
While the incident is highly offensive and demonstrates the utter contempt the left has for Christianity and Christians, it also reveals the intellectual deficiency of the left and their flippant attitude toward the western civilization that allowed them to become hedonists. Comedy, once a clever art form, has now digressed to exploiting bodily functions for laughs. We have went from Arsenic and Old Lace to the junior high locker room. So much for the progression of the arts. So much for intellectual cutting-edge and risky comedy. Mr. David is a fool – and not a very talented one at that.
As a Christians I am offended but I am not surprised. Leftists are intent on destroying western civilization so they can build their utopian civilization upon its ashes. Mr. David's actions merely mirror the disrespect he has in his heart for the Christianity that allowed the western world to emerge out of barbarism. He contributes nothing but seeks to destroy and ridicule the beliefs of others in the hope that they will join him in his nihilism. Such a sad use of a life.

They never learned respect, or common decency. They just follow the herd and try to be even more outlandish than the one before. I have no connection at all with people who act like this. Although I am sure this is a swipe at Christians, I think it is more a commentary on the intellectual deficiency of the writer and actor. How intelligent and clever is his action in the first place? What vital social commentary does it make?

Not like you described, at all. If your readers want to believe what you wrote is true, I won't try to get them to actually see what happened.
To those who might have a mind of their own, the idea in the story was that people see "miracles" where there are none, such as all the Mary's in: oil slicks, toast, windows, stained bathroom walls (as on Sunny In Philadelphia), so forth. If people are dumb enough to believe that the Virgin Mary would cause her image to appear in a potato chip, then they will be dumb enough to be offended by this Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.
In other words, the author of this "report" who is going to boycott the show would believe "Jesus On Toast".
I've seen two minutes of the show and I thought it sucked. If I cross paths with this demented cretin Larry David I'll be sure to piss on him and he'll have real tears running down his face.

Never been a Fan of that style of show. It has nothing to do with politics but with the style. I can't see what the fuss is about Office but I know it has a large following. I just find these types or styles of shows are largely ego driven excercises. Either go full improv or full script but the improv/outline based show is just not for me.
First off, the Bible is terrible to smoke a J with since the paper is usually very thin. I own plenty of them, and I recommend pages out of a Rolling Stone magazine instead. I find the amount of ink on a Matt Taibbi article provides a nice texture for the bud.

Can't say that I'm a bit interested, and I'm wondering if anyone is brave enough to BBQ one of Mr. David's sacred cows? You're right – I've tried to watch one or two of these Judd Aptow comedies, and found them so banal, that I haven't bothered to watch the entire lot of them. If I want a good fart joke, I'll become a crossing guard or a playground monitor – at least I expect that sort of thing from 12 year olds, and not the much-vaulted Larry David.

Leno asked Seinfield once if he was anything like his character. Jerry said no and that he wouldn't want to have anything to do with his character or any of the others from the show because they were awful people. That's what was brilliant about it Seinfield it was a show about a bunch of self centered miserable jerks who obessed on every petty little thing. The humor came from the situations that this behavior got them into. The final episode while flawed did have the right idea, Jerry and his pals finally are made to account for their behavior. The difference is Larry David is the self centered miserable jerk he plays on his show and what is even more insufferable is he is rich miserable jerk with a make believe job that pays him alot of money and still whines.
I'm a life long Lutheran and I thought the episode was very funny. It seems to me that Larry David takes shots at everybody. There was an episode a few years back that had him set up a date between a blind man and an ugly woman who wore a burqua.
What do you expect from hollywood? Nothing new under the sun. But how does a person who considers himself an atheist (someone who claims to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the God of the Holy Bible does not exist) Why is it they spend every waking hour (as Maher does) hating that God that they are sure doesn't exist? Seems to me that's like hating santa claus or the easter bunny.

Comedy scripts reveal that lack of intelligence of their "creators" to the same degree that "news" on CNN fails to reflect analysis and insight, and simply piles on the intellectual dishonesty and prejudices of the infantile babblers like Rich Sanchez, Wolf Blitzer, Campbell Brown and Larry King. HBO, Showtime et al pride themselves on slick programing, usually subject matter defined as "critically acclaimed" or "cutting-edge". Larry David's show tries to be one of these but in reality is just another turd circling the drain. One reason I don't have premium channels.

It isn't a defense of the show. I've never seen even one episode of the show. Of course the sequence was contrived. Contrived, hell, it was actually rehearsed. OMG, it was a conspiracy, complete with rehearsals. Of course, it wasn't accidental.
It's an indictment of the author, for exactly what I said, choosing the most inflammatory way to describe the scene. If the author hadn't (seemingly) done that, I wouldn't have commented at all.

I was raised baptist and found this episode hilarious. You know what I thought was funny today? A congressman confessed on a video that during a conference on global warming in which Hanson was making his case, they convinced attendees that their theories were fact by scheduling it on the historically hotest day of the year and by opening the windows and cutting the air. Because they were hot and sweting and saw Hanson wipe his brow they all believed, renounced their belief that the Earth will do what it will do and accepted Al Gore as their savior.

He didn't take the picture down stomp and pee on it. He splashed it, like one drop ON ACCIDENT. Sometimes we all need to step back and realize that HOLLYWOOD is HOLLYWOOD. The fact that you want to categorize those who believe in something that you don't as blind and unable to think for themselves reveals a well-deserved clandestine doubt, uneasiness, and even fear about your own lack of belief burried within yourself. Many of the greatest "free-thinkers" throughout history have been men and women of faith; many of the same even attribute their accomplishments to the very faith which you misunderstand. Also, it happens that I agree with you about the Bible. Those compiling the present day KJV under King James' orders did not even claim to do so under revelation, and it is clear that there is disagreement and confusion among denominations as to important points of doctrine. I saw the episode and that wasn't the feeling I got. The show set up that he had this medication making his urination much more powerful, and it sprayed up into the eye of the painting. Not as to the Christians that took the painting too seriously, that wasn't a insult to Christians but a specific Christians. I mean yes this kind of Christianity is STUPID! I am a Christian, I love Christ. I can't stand these kind of people. They take this tear as a sign to spread the word. They needed a ridiculous sign to be given to them for them to finally get off their asses and do what God commands. The show wasn't mocking Christ, or mocking Christians, it was mocking people who see the vague face of the virgin Mary in their blueberry muffins and decide they should feed the homeless when the rest of their life they spent over eating and watching day time TV.

I think I have establish enough of a reputation here to not be thought of as someone who takes this stuff lightly. That being said, I completely disagree with the way this incident is being described.
I just watched the episode in question (before reading this post) and found the whole episode quite funny. The incident in question was not the focus of the show and was only a minor sub-plot. Furthermore, it was an actual comic bit as opposed to just another attention-getting "look at how outrageous I am" moments.
To say he "pisse[d] on the face of a painting of Jesus Christ" is simply not accurate. It is an intentional misrepresentation of what happened made in order to inflame the passions of people who did not watch the show. As others have mentioned, he was urinating in a bathroom which had a picture of Jesus on the wall next to the toilet. Due to the unfortunate events of the plot, one drop was accidentally splashed on to the painting. He most certainly did not "piss on" the painting. That implies an intent that is simply not there.
We all hate it when the Left takes things out of context to get people worked up and I don't think it is right when we do it ourselves. It was just a few weeks ago that Rush Limbaugh got a bunch of hell due to people misquoting him and taking things out of context. Have we already forgotten how wrong that was?

From the above background, both extremes of the political spectrum would believe they could safely predict my response to CYE's episode with the side story involving Larry David's "water pressure." The episode's writers lampoon those who readily accept easily explained phenomena as miracles. So have I when pondering those who claim to see the Blessed Virgin in a tortilla.
Larry David is a comedic genius. Don't know the man so I cannot say that he's as tortured a soul as he's made out to be. Is David enjoying life or riddled with demons? I cannot say, and wouldn't rely on tabloids or the MSM to form an opinion.
I distinguish Larry David from Maher and Behar in that Larry David is funny and has talent. To me, Maher stopped being funny about the same time that Letterman stopped being funny. What charms me about Larry David is that all the key characters in Seinfeld are venal, self-absorbed jerks, particularly the character that is based upon Larry David's persona. Generally, one safely presumes that a writer/director who has the opportunity to perform on the business end of a camera will reserve the role of hero for themselves. Paradoxically, Larry David, though writer/producer, chooses to portray the series' biggest buffoon. I also appreciate that Seinfeld was completely apolitical. Haven't seen enough CYE episodes to opine, however, I have yet to see an episode that more than touched on politics and, when it did, it was hilarious. For instance, the CYE episode a few years ago when Larry's character had license from his wife to have a one-time tryst. The woman who became the focus of Larry's interest was beautiful, talented, charming, gracious, and receptive. Notwithstanding those attributes, when Larry saw a picture of President Bush on her dresser, he couldn't consummate the dalliance. That said far more about David and liberals than it revealed about conservatives.
As a Christian and life-long Republican, I do not anticipate denying myself future episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Oh, and the part about Hollywood being reticent to mock Islam, clearly they are fearful of becoming future victims of the radicals' ire-inspired violence.

I have had cable service since 1984 and HBO the entire time. HBO used to be a movie channel like MTV used to be a music video channel. I have been a fan of Enterouge and The Soprano's in the past but HBO has so pushed the liberal agenda its not worth it anymore. I cancelled the HBO portion of my cable package and haven't missed it one bit. Also don't tune in to any of the NBC/Universal channels for the same reason. The liberal elites really don't have a clue. I guess we'd have to take a dump on a picture of Larry David to offend something he worships. What a dumbass.
I think perhaps you could have been a little clearer about what happened in the show. Larry did not piss on the picture intentionally – it was merely an accidental "splash back". I am a very conservative Christian and this did not offend me in the least. I think this is a bit of nitpicking. I didn't particularly find this portion of the episode to be very funny but it wasn't due to my considering offensive because I did not.

Here is an idea for your next show, Larry. Take a trip to Europe. The same cannot be said, however, for Jefferson, in my opinion, in light of the fact that he did pray and invoke God to intervene in the affairs of humanity. He might have cut out the pages of the Bible talking about the miracles Jesus performed, but he read that Bible regularly all the same. I would classify him not as a Deist but as something like a Unitarian (although granted, that's not much better). Don't mean to start a whole new scrap here, I agree with your definition of Deism and Einstein's probable membership, but I just need to quibble over Jefferson being in that category.
What Larry did re: "piss Christ" is one of the most despicable things I have ever heard of. Christ came to earth as the Light of the world to show men how to be reconciled to God, then died on the cross to bear the sins of all who come to Him in faith. One day Larry will stand before Christ face to face – I hope that he repents of this and all his sins and receives Christ as God's greatest gift to all men so he will have a right standing before God. Larry, you need to do some soul-searching and ask yourself why you would want to degrade a Man who never did you a wrong and who has been so revered through the ages that millions have laid down their lives for him.

She calls her mom in there and when Larry David goes to the door and looks, both of the kooks are on their knees praying, because of the miraculous "tear" on Jesus's face.

This is a show I usually enjoy but this episode simply went too far. I have to wonder if Larry David and his production staff have the courage to do something similar to a symbol of the Islam faith and air it on network TV. I doubt it. It's much easier to follow in the wake of Hollywood's obsession with insulting christianity and indicates that they are, in fact, elitist snobs who looks down on anyone outside of their very "special" circle. It wouldn't surprise me if they were to defend this by calling it art and saying they can say anything under the first amendment. The good thing about the freedom of speech is that it also alludes to the freedom not to listen, and I won't be. Huge Seinfeld fan, here. I ordered HBO to watch this season's "reunion", knowing full well that it wasn't going to actually be a reunion show, but have snippets of the actors playing the characters.
Wow, where do I begin? I had seen Curb years ago. Thought that Larry is a genius, but it's tough to have the show DVR'd in a house with kids. Then, this season I feel like it's been an attempt to shock more than make laugh. The first episode with the original cast had a 5 or 6 minute scene with nudity. I have a kid brother who was stoked about the reunion, but I told him we're not going to be able to watch it.
My brother and I even went and saw Jerry at the Austin Bass Music Hall where he killed. He was PG, but he killed the auidience. And I've heard interviews where he talks about being funny and clean is the challenge. Anyone can be funny and blue.

National Review put it very well when it asked when can we expect the muslim episode? We know that will never happen because Larry knows that people will push back. It really could be funny, Larry does something to offend muslims and one of the guys from CAIR comes over after his golf game and talks to Larry about it and after Larry explains it and the CAIR guy listens he says oh yeah I understand no big whoop I'll probably just issue a fatwa on you and call it done. I totally understand the "Muslim episode" question on this. I still believe that the whole Mohammed Cartoons controversy was one of the sorriest episodes in the history of the Western Civilization press.
That being said, I prefer to view the situation from a differ point of view. Rather than ask "why do they always pick on the Christians?", I take stuff like this as evidence that Christians (and Jews) are much more mature and reasonable groups of people.

I am a Roman Catholic. How I pray and how much is my business. But that's beside the point. The real issue here is what we consider offensive and what we don't. There is NOTHING objectine about this argument. It is complelety subjective.
1) Larry David did not, as described, urinate on a painting of Jesus Christ. He aimed at the toilet, and due to a condition, splashed a tear drops worth on the painting. Why didn't he clean it off? Well, if you watch the show you can see that his character thinks about it and then just leaves it alone. Indefensible? Yes. Just as much as splashing on the floor and not cleaning it.
2) At the end of the show. When Larry is caught, he says he is sorry. (if this makes you roll your eyes, it brings me to…)

3) The entire episode is thematically about how people are so easily offended. a) Larry and Jerry are offended by the assistant exposed midriff. b) she is offended that they are offended, chalking it up to her being a woman c) drivers get offended when they get honked at (in fact, a character is killed due to such provaction) d) Richard Lewis is offended that neither Jerry or Larry will move over to let him sit e) Larry and Richard accidently lose their call and Richard is offended that Larry doesn't call him back f) the restaurant owner is offended that Larry took more than two napkins; Larry is offended that he can't have more than two (even a handicap person only gets two napkins. (which brings me to my final point. Point….)
4) As a Roman Catholic, I feel the Bible's greatest lesson's are on living a life as Jesus would. Jesus was presecuted for his beliefs far greater than I have. But when anyone has stomped a hard foot on my person morality ( AND I DO NOT PUT LARRY DAVID IN THAT CATEGOR), I remember the words of Jesus " You have heard that it was said 'Love your friends, hate your enemies.' But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you. so you may become the sons of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil. Why should God reward you if you love only the people who love you?"

I have no clue as to what gave you the impression I was in any way admiring fanatic Muslims. My point was that for some reason there is open seanon on Christianity in this country, that is not applied the same way to othe religions. And no, it doesn't in any way upset me that Christians aren't that powerful in the US. To me religion is not about the kind of power you are talking about.

Larry David is an equal opportunity offender. He makes fun of Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Black people as well as Gay people. He did several episodes a few years back making fun of Muslim women wearing Burqas, he poked fun at the rug on floor towards Mecca praying Muslims, and he said "there are a lot of meshuggenah muslims out there". If you were not offended by those episodes (I heard no outrage from conservataives) and you were not offended by the Mohammed Danish cartoons, it is hypocritical to be offended by this.

Okay, i have to admit, I"m a HUGE fan of "CYE"…. I rarely miss an episode and when I do, I try to make sure I catch up on it… and I haven't seen this one yet, but maybe I'm missing who they're making fun of when I read the whole synopsis.
I personally thought he was aiming his satire at the "I see the face of Jesus in this slice of brea!" "I see Mother Mary's form in this potato chip!" from what I read.
