Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

"No…more…WIRE HANGERS!!"
Michelle Obama also managed a spot-on imitation of kids whining about eating their vegetables.
"I don't wanna eat it. I don't like it. It tastes bad. I don't want it,'" the first lady said in her best nasal whine.
Then she added: "We don't want to hear the whining. We want you to eat it. Just eat it."
The Joan Crawford of our time.
Billie Mays Here With Barack Obama's Auto Author-You Too Can Be An Award Winning Writer
The Auto Author is the secret behind Barack Obama's success. You too can get the Auto Author and receive fame and fortune.
So I wonder with all the golf Obama is playing how his supporters will defend him…. especially after they harp about Bush taking Vacations and having more downtime than any other President…. it will be interesting to see how often Obama goes on vacation as well in the next four years…. He already uses Marine 1 to fly to Penns. for a hamburger… :-/
you know her look is quite severe. I see her and am worried she will beat me with wire hangers. I'm sure it was a fassionable or sophisticated look at one time, but with my modern eyes it is a little too horror show/halloween for me. She's probably been charicatured too many times for me the recognise the real thing.
so if big oil made 40 billion in profits, how much did the government rake in from the oil companies for the same period ?
Damn! You're right about that. Spooky, spooky, spooky. Looks like a Halloween outfit for sure. Here, take the whole friggin' bag of candy, just don't hurt me!!
Racist attack!

I wonder if he ordered braaaaaiiiiins……..
I saw "Paranormal Activity" this weekend.
I liked it, but I can't recommend it to anyone. I won't. It was that freaky, and I feel like I'm setting a trap for someone if I tell them to go see it.
Like it or hate it, because there is a vocal minority, it's a movie that goes to show you don't NEED a big budget and a whole bunch of torture porn to make a good horror movie. You just need determination and a spark of creativity.
14 Americans dead in Afghanistan and Obama won't even notice or mention their sacrafice.
Another fund raiser, another golf game, another party at the white house.
I hate this socialist bstrd…
I don't believe the Marines tell the commander in chief what he can and can not do.
(Grinding teeth over this very issue….)
Very true… maybe it was more of an advising, because he apparently went through 3 out of 5 of the helicopters that was designated for Presidental transport.
Well to be fair, grumble grumble grumble, it wasn't through fighting that they died. Helicopter crash.
Can you hear us NOW MSM!
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/leno_letdow...
They very well may have "suggested" it was overly expensive.
I have tons of respect for the US military, men and women volunteering to put their lives not only on hold, but on the line, to keep my family safe. But they are professionals, and they will do their jobs.
It also infuriates me that while these brave men and women are fighting and dying in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as else where in the world, their commander in chief if throwing parties, holding fund raisers, and playing golf.
His refusal to make a decision on Afghanistan is despicable. I think every voter who put this guy in the White House should attend any and all military funerals held in their regions. That is the price of voting "present" and they should completely understand exactly what that means.
Crikey….in this pic, Joan Crawford does look more like Norma desmond than Gloria Swanson did!
I very much agree… If there is one thing I cannot stand with this President, it's in indecision regarding our men and women in Afghanistan… they are pretty much sitting ducks over there… They don't have the tools they need (never did if you believe some of the reports from there)…. I don't care what the previous administration did to help or hinder the fight in Afghanistan… the only thing that matters now is what is Obama going (or not) to do… everything else is irrelevent.
Agree times 10.
"Mad Men" still getting better and better. Kudos to Betty, finally! Love Roger – funny par excellence! And to Jon Hamm: good acting!
The previous administration did a fantastic job of providing for the troops in Afghanistan, that was the main reason behind Iraq.
bin looser's plan A was to have the US invade or at least bomb Arabia. Immediate world wide jihad. That's why 16 of the 9/11 hijackers were Arabs.
Plan B was have the US invade or at least bomb Pakistan. Then al qeada could move in during the ensuing chaos and grab the nukes. Set one off in the US, and he has his world wide jihad again. That's why 3 of the hijackers were Pakis. Plan C was to have the US invade Afghanistan, where the foreign terrorists could poor in, and have a replay of the USSR defeat.
Bush & Co. came up with plan D, move the central front out of the mountains of Afghanistan (another Vietnam at the very least) and move it to Iraq, where they could be dealt with on our terms. And we've seen that did work.
Now it's time to refocus on Afghanistan, and the current administration is more worried about pissing off the far left lunatic fringe than protecting and outfitting our military to do the job infront of them.
Obama may have been elected president, but he is not leading.
Huh… I don't think I knew any of that… Military brat that I am, I would have thought dad would have eluded to some of that… anywho…. I do agree with you that Obama is not leading… he is too busy campaigning to lead… or playing golf or running to Penns. for a hamburger… :-/
yeah, this season turned around nicely aftyer a little bit of a shaky start. Best line of the night "only you would still be thinking of me at a time like this." {paraphrased}
crash? or ground fire? They don't know yet no matter what they say. There were Feds on board…
What has happened to this website? Ever since the launch of biggovernment.com, bighollyhood.com has more and more become its mirror. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hollywood incites, but, alas, no more. It seems, every other article has previously appeared on biggovernment.com. By contrast, Leo Grin's new series has promise.
Props to biggovernment.com's ACORN series, but let's maintain some separation. You're blurring the lines between the two sites.
I've gotta re-watch it, but that had to be a Roger line.
HA!
Go away now. Who really cares what content is placed where. it's reaching a TON of people at BOTH sites so what's the problem with that? Besides Hollywood IS laced with politics AND real world events.
You need to get with the democratic program here.
Companies do not "make" a "profit." They use their unbelievably corrupt superior dark forces to rob the poor blind, while doing everything they can to kill the poor and destroy the world.
That money belongs to society, carefully over seen by a loving and caring, all encompassing government.
To me it doesn't matter. They are putting their lives on the line, in service to us, and all the while, the President continues to vote "present" on their future.
He has the luxury to waste time, they don't.
I agree Ed, it doesn't matter but getting the facts straight should be.
The facts are straight. Those American soldiers were in Afghanistan because they volunteered to serve and the commander in chief ordered them.
And now their commanding general has bluntly stated he needs 40,000 more troops, and the President's response is to work on his slice.
Shameful.
now i get it … thank you helping me understand.
"Will the REAL Jesse Jackson please stand up."
http://www.tmz.com/2009/10/21/rev-jesse-to-msnbc-...
Over on MSNBC, Contessa Brewer introduced Rev. Jesse Jackson as Rev. Al Sharpton….and was JJ steamed!
Even more amazing are the comments from TMZ web site viewers who I thought would have had very liberal leanings. No way. One commenter suggests simply addressing both of them as "Jesse Sharpton"….or was it "Al Jackson"? Both work for me.
Joan looks better, here, than she did when she went for the REALLY thick eyebrows, over-drawn lips and the chopped-off short hair. Her strong features became 'cartoonish' due to heavy handed make- up application.. in those years thinking that 'more is never enough'. This not-so-good look was featured in a 1950's movie, 'Johnny Guitar', co-starring Mercedes McCambridge. I've heard ,on TCM, that they couldn't stand each other. She certainly made an impact and has the following to prove it, after all these years.
Crawford had a far softer look when she was over at MGM. When she went over to Warners, she began sporting that harder look. Why? I don't know. I'm not that big a fan.
2 good JC films-
STRANGE CARGO – MGM 1940 with Gable and Lorre, set on Devil's Island with a Christ like figure within their escapee band of convicts. Very freaky.
MILDRED PIERCE – WB – 1945(?) – ostensibly a 'chick pic', but men seem to find it very watchable.Great supporting cast.
She's got another good one that I hear both sexes give very high marks to. I think it is SUDDEN FEAR from the 50s.
No, they can't. They have a vision of the world, and that will never change.
They may go out of business, but even so, they will be convinced its because we're just too stupid to know what's best for us.
I do! If it doesn't matter, why have two sites?
I agree with you, bobpitz.–Big Hollywood doesn't focus enough on Hollywood as it is, IMHO. I would expect sites named for Hollywood/Government to focus their content accordingly.
Does anyone who if they could retouch photos back then? I wonder what sort of camera and film they used. The photos are always so mesmerizing.
Best line of the night for me:
Dog Food Queen to Roger: "I finally realized…you are the one."
Roger: "Well…you're not. "
Jon Hamm earned his Emmy last night. I hope the Schoolteacher goes all Fatal Attraction on Don…Betty's incessant petulance pays off…Joan's husband is headed to Vietnam!
Most of the top stars in the studio system were given complete control over photographs and publicity portraits. I have seen some before and after photos and the areas of the photo were the star wanted something taken away or added. Hips were reduced, necks were elongated, facial hair disappeared…believe me, these stars and their photographers were professionals and hardly ever let any photos become public unless they were perfect.
Most of the great studio photographers have books published with their old photos. Try looking for George Hurrell. He worked for MGM and some of the other studios. His photos are very famous.
Joan was really gorgeous in her early MGM days when she was married to Doug Fairbanks, Jr. Her looks grew harder with her personality as the years went by and it became more and more difficult to keep up with the new younger stars that were being churned out by the great studio machine. Joan managed to hang on to the top rung until the early 1950s…a good 20 + year stretch.
Betty really put the scews to him last night.
She walks away to attend to the kids turns looks at him sitting there crying and says "Were not done here"
to good
you bet they did. airbrushing was around for decades before photoshop. iirc, airbrushing photos for various purposes goes back at least to the 1920's.
they are pretty much interchangeable.
Thank you so much for your reply. I went to a site for the estate of Hurrell where they had a good sampling of his work (with the photo particulars) and provided a link to an associated site full of amazing photos. In case anyone is interested: http://www.hurrelleditions.com/

There is something to be said for a carefully guarded and crafted image. I am so tired of seeing stars drunken panty – or non panty shots.
Thank you again. His photos are magic.

Same exact complaints made when Bush was in. Perhaps we need a moratorium on Presidential golf/vacations/parties of any kind? Save us all money, anyway.
Sudden Fear is the only one of hers that I've seen recently and it was exceptional with Jack Palance.
There is a photo that Hurrell took of Joan Crawford (Someone pointed me to him today). I was in shock! Her face is actually covered with freckles! He took a picture of her showing them. It is lovely. So amazing what they could do back then and how marvelous the skin looked. The gowns were gossamer like.

Crawford is great in The Women and holds her own with the likes of Norma Shearer, Paulette Goddard (who is really scrumptious in this movie!), the great Roz Russell, and Joan Fontaine. Crawford plays the bad girl and nobody coulda done it better!
"TEEEEENNAAAAAAA!!! BRING ME THE AX!!"
So is Contessa Brewer with a box of rocks.
I have one of Hurrell's books and one of his requirements (at least back in the early days) was that he made his female subjects go scrub their faces until they shone. He only let them wear lipstick and mascara. He liked their skin to be totally clean. That is why a lot of his pictures of Crawford shows her freckles. She does look wonderfully natural.
Hurrell was an expert with lighting and was able to use shadows to create those fantastic cheekbones and luminous looking skin.
Here is a great Hurrell portrait of Crawford with no foundation on her skin. You can see a few lines and freckles.

How can you talk like that? You all know why Afghanistan is a mess. It's called Iraq. You don't even have guts enough to call that war a mistake. Obama has guts and is leading us honorably.
The bitter Conservative Extremists will never be happy as long as any Democrat is our President. If you had you way and another stooge gets back in power and runs us further into the ground, you would all be as happy as can be. Get your heads examined.
Leno is getting poor ratings? So now the Conservatives are vindicated? Am I missing something?
Leno had Rush Limbaugh as a guest so why wasn't that a big rating's surge?
To tell the truth, I wasn't sure what the original reply was getting at, I was just answering his question, does the MSM hear us.
No they don't. A true modern liberal can not be changed, can not be argued with, can not be debated, can not be reasoned with. The good Lord knows I've tried more times than I can remember.
They are right, you are wrong, even if that means we have to redefine blue as orange, so they can tell you the sky is orange. They are that far gone.
I'm convinced, you are not one of them. That's why I engage you. You show signs of reasonableness.
Thank you for the compliment. I think you are articulate and I like to know what makes the Right wingers tick. Sometimes you refer to all Liberals in one broad stroke and I know you wouldn't like it if someone said "I knew a conservative who was repulsive so that means you and all the other conservatives are repulsive."
Voting present is another accusation that gets thrown at Obama like it's an insult.
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/0...
(From the link) "THE FACTS: Obama acknowledges that over nearly eight years in the Illinois Senate, he voted "present" 129 times. That was out of roughly 4,000 votes he cast, so those "presents" amounted to about one of every 31 votes in his legislative career.
Illinois legislators often vote "present" and for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes blocs of lawmakers do it as a protest in some dispute over rules and procedures. Obama was often joined in his "present" votes by 10 or 20 other senators.
In other cases, lawmakers do it to signal objections to the details of a measure that they support in principle. They also use "present" votes as strategic moves to defeat legislation or, of course, simply to avoid taking a firm position. "
I'm not a right winger, I'm a born and bread left winger. I'm a New Yorker, my Dad was a union guy, and what I was taught from day one is business are evil, workers are great, and the only reason anyone is poor is because we don't elect enough democrats to create Utopia.
These days I consider myself on the right, but not the right the left has defined. I consider the issue as this, if the left is supremacy of the state over the individual (socialism/communism) then the right must be supremacy of the individual over the state. And I don't mean anarchy, I mean a very limited government, on an extremely short leash, that stays the hell out of our lives.
America is not about equal outcomes, its about equal opportunity. I'm a student of history, and every time I read about oppression, the state has been used to do it. Government is the preferred tool of dictators, monarchs, thugs and statists. It doesn't help the poor and oppressed, it creates them. Not really the poor so much, life itself creates poverty, but the state is used to keep people in poverty because its another tool they can use.
Basically I agree with America's founding fathers. We The People are in charge of destiny. Not some central planning committee in some far off country. And the sooner we get back on that track, the better off every one will be.
Good. I'm glad it's loud and clear. I meant it as an insult. I have respect for the office of the President of the United States. That's different from respect for the person holding that office.
The President already did one of these reviews last spring, now he has to do one again?
In my own opinion, what the President is doing, is avoiding the issue in order to placate the lunatic far left fringe of the democratic party in order to keep them on board to support the nationalization of the health care industry.
Politics is one things, but our service men and women, how I have the up most respect for, are laying their lives on the line in Afghanistan. That's a fact. And if I'm correct, what he's doing is not only wrong, it's evil. American soldiers are dying while the President of the United States holds weekly parties, hold fund raisers.
Politics when you inconvenience some people who are politically active is one thing. Politics when people are dying is something else entirely.
Obama campaigned for President for like two years. Now he has it. So do the friggn' job.
No, the reason Afghanistan is a mess is because it's located in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has been called the graveyard of empires. Pure crap. It's not economically feasible to expend the amount of effort and money to rule it, which is why no one really ever has.
Unfortunately its also one of the central puzzle pieces from 9/11. The President wanted to be President. He said once he's elected, the world would begin to heal.
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NzUyM2EzMjVm...
Time to either sh!t or get off the pot in Afghanistan. He wanted the job, he got it, now do it.
I hate to say this, but it's time to abandon some peoples to their fates. Afghanistan is a crap pile that all our blood and treasure will never, ever be able to redeem. There's a vision many people have that the next Jefferson, Washington and Adams will be found on that godforsaken rockpile, but they're not going to be found there…or in Iraq. I know our troops are doing everything humanly possible, but my gut tells me the task of reforming the countries is just…sisyphean.
I can understand and appreciate your position, it's very logical.
I haven't come to the same conclusion. I'm still thinking about it. But I agree, some big decision needs to be made, and fast. Which infuriates me about my opinion the President is using this issue to finagle domestic policies.
When the Afghans point to a rusted Russian tank and say that's proof they can't be defeated, what they're really pointing at is something that wasn't worth the cost to move it back to the USSR.
I hope you're right–I will be thrilled to find my pessimism is unwarranted, but I often feel like Afghanistan is a real-world "Kobayshi Maru."
Totally agree on Hamm's Emmy.
And loved the show's ending with trick-or-treating: "Who are you supposed to be?"
Joan Crawford was very popular with the guys and a few gals.
http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrities/people/da...
Jackie Cooper wrote about how Joan invited him over for a pool party and after the other guests left, she made love to him. He was 17
Well, alright!
Miss Crawford was very good in "GRAND HOTEL" and held her own against such stars as John and Lionel Barrymore, Greta Garbo, and Wallace Beery.
I much prefer her early movies; yes, even the silents, in which she often played a kind of madcap/ "IT" GIRL role.
So you have a certain Blue Oyster Cult song running through your head right now?
Excellent analogy!
