thanks, John! i've been wondering when you were going to bring back the Daily Dose of Hubba Hubba…
What will the Obama administration try and steal today?
The media is glowing about the rise in first time homebuyers pushing the sale of real estate up 9% last month. I keep wondering who is buying a home in this economy? I realize the administration's $8,000 first-time-homebuyers credit expires soon, but if you don't have the 20% downpayment (or job in this horrid economy), how does one buy a home? My theory is that those buying homes are independently wealthy and/or smart folks who have been saving for years and are finally catching a break. At least I think those are the biggest buyers of homes. If I'm right, what happens to the housing market once the $8,000 credit is gone or the few who can afford homes buy?
When the media cheers about the "surprising" uptick in home sales, I just wonder why no one asks the question "Who is buying?". Who is buying? Just like the cash for clunkers deal… the few who could buy bought.
I'd love to hear some enlightened folks opinions.
I may not be enlightened but, Gold is at all time highs, unemployment at 10%, interest rates at historic lows and the DOW back at 10,000. Then people start buying home at a 9% up tick? Something in rotten in Denmark.
Jane Darwell may even be an Oscar winner, either for Ox-Bow or Grapes of Wrath. She has a very interesting look about her.
There is a new "Wolfman" trailer out, with cranked up action and pounding score. I must say it´s pretty awesome.
You may want to check out Spengler´s latest column. His theory has the benefit of actually explaining and fitting the entirety of Obama´s words and actions.

"The reason for Obama's peculiar mode of governance, though, may have less to do with his apparent narcissism than with his objectives. It is a credible hypothesis that this president holds views that he cannot easily share, even with his own staff. [...] There is some basis for the conjecture that his innermost sentiment is hard-core, left-wing Third World antipathy to the United States. [...] But even a president who wants to drastically reduce America's influence in the world must negotiate a formidable military and national security establishment which has a strong moral commitment to – as well as vested interests in – that influence.
The president, in this view, consciously sees himself as an outsider who has become the leader of an alien tribe, rather like Eugene O'Neill's Brutus Jones or Kipling's Peachy Carnahan – except that Obama leads the world's only superpower rather than a primitive tribe."
From a Friday Reuters report:
"Stung by perceived snubs from U.S. President Barack Obama … Sarkozy is increasingly reaching out to non-aligned states …"
What's with the "perceived"? Doesn't being uninvited from a dinner and talk count as a snub? But you have to call the round a draw when Sarkozy compliments Obama on his tan!
I think this "sting" is one of the highest honors anyone could receive! Time to start calling them FRENCH Fries again!
Jane Darwell. Great face! Wish I had more to say about her except always gives a good performance.
Yep, she won best supporting actress for Grapes of Wrath.
I wish Breitbart would start a site called BigSports. I would love to rant about why, for the sake of national security, Army football should never be televised. There are probably 100 high school teams that could beat them; and that could give encouragement to Al Quaeda and the Taliban.
Good morning fellow dissidents. I did a fun video on all of the animated Obamas I could find. Calling all techies: we need better ones soon. I left out Chia Obama on purpose. I put in photos of a glaring Obama because he didn't appreciate my efforts. Tough!
Welcome to Animated Obamaland

I think alot of these current sales are people taking advantage of the depressed prices, and low interest rates, and buying properties for investment, and or second (vacation) homes.
Also what is never told is the criteria used for the data. That would validate the study and answer those lingering questions. But applauded studies are not for proof, results are maleable to the show.
you're probably right. the inflated bubble priced many people out of the market (you mean govt's misguided efforts to increase home ownership among the less well-off actually had the opposite effect? but how can that be???) and last year's correction has started sorting itself out at a new level.
Find out why President Obama's push for nationalized healthcare is creepily similar to the thalidomide fiasco of the late 1950s/early 1960s:
PRESIDENT THALIDOMIDE
http://naturalfake.wordpress.com/2009/10/23/presi...
interesting take. it's not a stretch to believe BHO developed some deep-rooted enmity toward the USA as the 'great hegemon' during his formative years abroad.
the Hugo Chavez clip was my favorite!
That's where I remember her from Grapes of Wrath! Thanks for the reminder.
Did you know that Grapes of Wrath had been banned in California at one time. Reason, it made them look bad.
It might still BE banned but one of those laws that on one pays attention to anymore.
Good grief, why wont it let me post the comment that I REALLY want to post? I checked everything about the wording and couldn't find one word that could possibly be derogatory.
What?
lol..That's actually pretty good. I loved the dancing tutu. lol
Lord Moncton has issued some pretty chilling warnings about the impending Treaty on Climate Change. Anybody have any insight into what this is going to mean, if Obama signs it, on the US remaining an independent country?
One of the areas of friction involves Iran, the French!!!!!!!! are taking a harder line on Iran in regards to their nuclear program than we are. There is something seriously amiss when the French are more hawkish than the US.
I watched that video Yosarian and I went straight to the unfccc website and that treaty IS there. It's just waiting for Dec 9th to be signed by all that are participating. I couldn't decipher all the jargon though so I couldn't really tell you what it all means.
RIP Soupy Sales. He made pie throwing into an art form. His show brought me much joy in my youth. Innovative, crazy and funny. Like the Simpsons and South Park, it was filled with double entendres enjoyed by both kids and adults. Sadly, white fang, black tooth and pookie are no more.
rofl @ the chicken throwing..dude that's RAAAAACIST!
I love your videos.
Someone tell Hollyweird that just because they act as a sick person in a damn movie, doesn't mean they are all of a sudden experts on Healthcare.
Morons.
Mrs. Merriweather in "Gone With the Wind"! Another face I recognized but couldn't put a name to. I looked her up in IMDb. It lists 201 films to her credit between 1913 and 1964 (last one was "Mary Poppins"). Wow – that woman worked…and she was almost 40 when she started with "The Capture of Aguinaldo" in 1913.
At first, I thought this was Kate Price, the "burly Irishwoman" seen in some of Buster Keaton's classic short films (like "My Wife's Relations"). She had quite a career, too: 299 films between 1910 and 1937 (most of which I have never heard of, which raises a quantity-vs-quality issue that isn't so much the case with Darwell), but Price got writing credits for two films, too.
Ah, the *real* glamour women of Hollywood–who was this Rita Hayworth chick anyway? (BG)
The woman was chilling in "TheOx-bow Incident"
A fine choice to feature her on open thread.
in a depressed market, 9% may not be as much as it sounds, and the 20% you speak of just gets you out of having to pay mortgage insurance. I would hazard a guess that if you have reasonably good credit, you could find an attractive package.
in real pre-crash dollars, that 10,000 is in reality about 7500. Which to me means the dow will have to rise to around 18, 000 to recover it's value.
Rutgers 27 Army 10
Normally I wouldn't care, but when I bet on Army and the receivers miss 7 of 9 good passes and the kicker fumbles the hike. I shouldn't have tuned in.
looks like beloved leader may not be in Copenhagen

(sniped from biggovernment)
I find this to be somewhat encouraging, we should remain vigilant on the subject
wasn't that picture from "Min and Bill"?
She may be in that, but you may be confusing her with Marie Dressler. IIRC, Jane Darwell spend the bulk of her film career over at 20th CENTURY-FOX.
Bloated, Slothful Star Wars Celebrity Featured in New PSA Supporting Public Option in Health Care: http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/10/bloated-sloth...
The scene with Darwell as Ma Joad burning all of her precious family keepsakes before leaving Oklahoma for California is still one of the most heartbreaking on screen.
Moe Howard made pie throwing an art form. Soupy only perfected the tradition.
Yeah, where is the beefcake photo of Wallace Beery for all us gals?
That was an encouraging article in the Times. thanks for the link.
We can take some comfort in knowing that the actual armies of Middle East countries FOLD UP like a pup-tents when confronted by a real Army. Even the Taliban and al Queda must be embarrassed by the specter of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard actually fighting anybody…cocerning Army football, I watched too, er, it was raining.
And at Harvard.
I shouldn't try to drink coffee and watch things like that at the same time. Great fun!
Just noticed something of interest. The new Syfy series Stargate: Universe not only features a Christian among the main characters, and he's not depicted as a lunatic or a loser. Also, in the most recent episode, "Light", there's a scene where several of the characters, believing they will soon die, are reciting the Lord's Prayer.
I'm an agnostic, but I don't like Hollywood's usual stereotyping and slandering of religious people, so this is a surprise.
Telling a mannequin anything is kind of like pouring water in a leaky bucket.
Dame, I bow to your wisdom… indeed Moe began the meringue.
If they're trying to support the "public option" they are rather muddling their message. Jabba looks like the "public option" to me, and the message – "tell them (your senators) you want Jabba the Hutt" – really rings true if you look at it that way.
maybe a twofer of Marjorie Main & Percy Kilbride?

Seems there's a lot of fraud goin' on!
AFAIK, it would still need ratified by the senate and they never came within a mile of approving Kyoto. yeah, i realize the dems now have a supermajority…
Stargate: Universe………. arrgh
They had their opportunity in the last episode to melt the ship as it entered the sun
Why oh why didn't they!
Back in the day an good actress like Jane Darwell got to work, and turn in some memorable stuff along the way. Now a lady over 40 will not get the time of day unless she was major box office in her twenties. It pains me to no end. I was brought up to be a movie buff. And I have to tell you for most of my life I would go to the movies at least twice a week. Now I get suckered once very couple of months. Its really tough out there as far as movies go, the best one I seen this year a 70 year old one on the big screen a month ago, The Wizard of OZ. You would think somebody would just tap into just making movies we want to see. its not hard, or maybe it is, maybe the old studio system was not the evil it was with regard to the artist and the craft of movie making? The Studio system gave us Jane Darwell's great work, that lives on. As for Soupy Sales, God rest the pie thrower. Bust a gut laughing and never hear a four letter word. The longer I live the more I think I was born 50 years to late. I'm 54. My generation has with some exceptions been and embarasiment.
Ma I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look, wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build, I'll be there, too.
Did anyone see some ad for something called V about aliens coing to earth and making world peace and global healthcare? I couldn't tell if it was a gov funded joke or an actual series… Either way I think it's an excellent commentary on how this administration sees things.
Although they think of themselves as outsides who COME IN PEACE and will share their ancient wisdom with us, it's sad how much they're floundering and flip flopping already and it hasn't even been a year. Maybe soon they'll go back to the mothership.
It's a remake of the old 80's "V" series, where the aliens also came bearing wonderful fixes for everything–and then were revealed to be lizard creatures who wanted to conquer and enslave the world. So I suspect the new series follows the same path.
"Old age approached, but one look from Maw and it backed off – fast."
Obama declares swine flu a national emergency
The article mentions how this will allow the government to bypass pesky federal rules. Emphasis added: "That could mean fewer hurdles involving Medicare, Medicaid or health privacy regulations."
A later piece tries to be more specific, as if they are only allowing certain defined things to be done "that are absolutely necessary."
Sample bit: "Hospitals could modify patient rules — for example, requiring them to give less information during a hectic time — to quicken access to treatment, with government approval, under the declaration."
Item One: Who doesn't think this will allow them to give vaccines and care, paid for by taxpayers (for the next two generations or so) to illegal aliens?
Item Two: Does this allow them to mandate "critical personnel" must get vaccinated?
Item Three: Who doesn't think this this "emergency" will get hyped us as evidence that National Health Care is urgently needed?
So, to answer the question, they are trying to steal some more of our freedom and liberty, while getting even more freer use of our money. In other words, nothing new.
To highlight the Serious Nature Of The Emergency, the last article says "…more than 1,000 people…" are dead from H1N1 in the US. Meanwhile, "Every year approximately 200,000 Americans die from preventable medical errors and healthcare-associated infections…"
Oh, how many hundreds of billions more were they going to squeeze out of Medicare and Medicaid without affecting care? Just wondering.
Obama says winner of clean-energy race will lead global economy
Meanwhile the "winners" who will be supplying the technology are elsewhere than the US, since we are horribly anti-business with punitive taxation rates and a liberal government preaching "soak the rich," excessive regulation with even more coming, which includes increasing controls against "pollutants" like carbon dioxide which will keep manufacturers from ever thinking about setting up shop in the US. Besides the excessive union demands, of course.
Actually the real "winner" might be Iran, which is doing far more to promote clean nuclear power than this administration ever will…
Blame Army training.
In the field, round objects being hurled at you are to be avoided, not caught.
I heard that a lot of the cash for clunker purchasers were businesses who traded in their old fleets, got the $4800 or whatever for like 100 cars and put that toward a new fleet. So Big Business cashed in again…
My jaw dropped when I saw that commercial with the aliens promising universal health care. Nothing would make me happier than to see V become a critique of Obama and those that worship him. I fear that may be a pipe dream, however.
Jane Darwell is a fine actress, BUT , in this picture… she's caught listening to one of Obama's many, phony speeches and she can't conceal her disgust.
Typical of Hollywood to release a children's flick ( AstroBoy) and attempt subliminal indoctrination by showing communist posters on walls.
dems diverted defense $ to pet projects..I havent heard much about it on the news..people need to be impeached for this kind of anti American manuevering.. im so sick and tired of looking at this bad news….who would have thought that Bill Ayers was just a preview of what we would see from the liberal animals running things
I wonder if it's a response to criticism of the Ori storyline. I don't know if they really received criticism or not, but Cooper felt the need to answer it in the commentary.
I read somewhere online that ABC had reworked some things to "soften" the "unintended" criticism of Obama. I don't know if I was reading a legitimate source at the time or not. It'd be nice if they could really be the rebels Hollywood always claims to be and just go for it.
Don’t be surprised when the shoe drops and the next housing mega-bubble bursts. We are in the midst of another leftist created –Govt. market- manipulation disaster. It is truly incredible that today, in 2009, thieving idiots like: Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd are still securing new mortgages for unqualified people-using the same criteria of the “Community Re-Investment-Act”, which was responsible for the collapse of our economy last year. The only different is that instead of guaranteeing the loans (given to unqualified people) by Govt backed Fannie Mae; these new bad loans are guaranteed by Ginnie Mae-another progressive, Gov't created agency; funded by the tax dollars of the American Citizenry. Right now, American is unrecognizable and has changed into something which is the antithesis “reason”.
For example: approximately 2 months ago, the Obama Administration offered a Government backed 4.32% or 4.23% rates to refinance people's primary residence mortgage. As an American, I called the advertised number in hope of lowering my current rate of 6%. Long story short; I was denied.
When I asked the rep why? He responded that I am “not passed due” on any of my credit accounts. In turn, I said, "Yes, I always pay my bills on time and I am aware of the fact that my credit is exemplary; "So what is the Problem?"
What this Government representative said next shocked the hell out of me! He said "Listen Mr. A, take down my name & number; do not make you next two mortgage payments and then call me a week and half after the scheduled due date of your second mortgage payment has passed." It was simple- he said that he could only help me get this special (government funded, below market) rate- if I was pasted due on my current credit obligations- or in other words, only if I had bad credit! We are no longer a Capitalist Country, where hard work and fulfilling one's obligations puts him a better position to get ahead in life. Obama and his Radical progressive cronies are actively destroying as many parts of the system as they can, at lightening speed. It is impossible for a Nation, a Company or an individual to flourish when failure is rewarded and diligence is penalized.
IF ANYONE DOUBTS ME, see for yourself: Go to http://www.ginniemae.gov and then type into the upper left had corner search box: community reinvestment act
