Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

She's lovely, but not as lovely as I Am Michelle Obama And Michelle Is Me. There is a new book out by Mary Tomer, "Mrs O, The Face of Fashion Democracy". You heard it right: "fashion democracy". My video shows this "fashion democracy" in all its splendor. In another 3 1/2 years the video will be a full length feature film. Hmm, maybe it will be.
Good day all, I spent the weekend in Socialistic Peoples Republic of Chicago. Glad to be back in the free state of Missouri.
If you are a FREEDOM LOVING AMERICAN, check this out.

WE WILL NEVER SURRENDER
I saw "Law Abiding Citizen" last evening. Interesting movie. Thought provoking. Gerard Butler, as always, commanded the screen. Other actors faded into the background, even Jamie Foxx who was as always excellent. Just doesn't have the whateveritis that Butler has. Lots to think about in this film even though it goes WAAAAAY over the top in the violence from the second scene. The first sets it up with a wonderful father-daughter moment.
I recommend this movie for those who can stand an inordinate amount of violence. Plenty to discuss for those who think our system of justice is broken.
If Harry Reid is not tossed out I will boycott his state for 20 years
I find Foxx annoying. He is good in a role but then i seems to believe he is the character for a few months. His real self often distracts from his movie self.
It probably makes no sense to anyone else, but I have difficulty looking past his behavior.
But then again I hold Matt Damon personally responsible for killing that search party that came to drag him home to his grieving mother, in Saving Private Ryan. Jerk.

I'm with you.
I am also Boycotting Ohio until The Cure, Depeche Mode, Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond are in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
Top five Mary Astor (seen above) films:
1) The Maltese Falcon
2) Dodsworth
3) Meet Me in St. Louis
4) The Palm Beach Story
5) Act of Violence

"fashion democracy". ???? What does that mean???
personally I think most of her fashion taste is in her mouth.
some of the outfits look good (must be accidental) she should stick to black outfits with a bright color on top to draw the eye away from the 'thunder thighs'.
I'm boycotting Massachusetts!
Oh no, I live here.
You better come back to Chicago. I think you forgot to pay your exit fee.
Oh man! Did I pay taxes while I was in Chitown, gonna claim you guys on my return this year.
You paid taxes? I'm sorry, you probably forgot to pay your tax tax then. Yep, you read it right, we put a tax on tax. It's the Illinois way.
The Maltese falcon is a great flic. I had to do a book report on the book and I couldn't find the cliff notes so I rented the movie. It made me a Bogart fan for life.
Rush. You have to add Rush into that mix, sir or madam.
Maybe some hope?

the list is long, but I am a believer in achieveable goal setting. Small steps my friend.
The film is quite faithful to the book, so it was less likely to get you in trouble for writing a bogus report. (Unless you gave a physical description of Spade, who is a "blonde Satan" in the book.) I pity the student who writes a book report on "The Scarlet Letter", using the Demi Moore film.
Rush!!!!!!!!! Thank You CobiWann! I saw them 5 times.
Take a look to the new adventures of Mr Ziegler :

Looking at IMDB, I see that Mary Astor played Magaret Lord (Tracy's mother) in a TV version of "The Philedelpia Story" in 1954. I'm sure it's not as good as the Hepburn/Grant edition, but it would be interesting to see. (This week I'm doing all movie-TV character quizes at http://www.ruamoviegenius.blogspot.com)
we in the 'burbs try to avoid the Checkpoints when we make our rare travels into Dalytown. The conservative underground here knows things. How to get to Sabbatino's on Irving Pk road without
having your papers checked. Cub games are more difficult bu not impossible.
Sox games? (big laugh inserted) they're ALL Obamites. You are doomed if you go there…
Yea, I was one of those students. I once wrote a 40 page term paper on Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle". The paper ended up being an infomercial on Sinclairs' socialist views. My English teacher had an idea that I didn't read the book when I failed to mention the lead character's name once in 40 pages. Oh well, live and learn.

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that there are more Obamite Cub fans than Obamite Sox Fans.
Rush yes…
But Barely Maninuff? Yeesh…
the man can sing a song.
Feel free to substitute Burt Bacharach if you want
but hey you are welcome to come up with your own meaningless boycott. I stand by mine.
Open thread Liberty Quote of the Day!
"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream — the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. Plutarch warned, 'The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.' The Founding Fathers knew a government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing." –Ronald Reagan

I live here too, and I'm boycotting the new sales tax increase by driving to NH to buy all my beer and wine.
I'd drop Act of Violence and add Red Dust. Just for the contrast of Astor and Harlow.
As a fellow Missourian, good for you, even though we do have our blue pockets too–including St. Louis, sorry to say. Love the city, but some of the people there seem to be total whack jobs.
I love The Palm Beach Story. It's a shame Preston Sturges didn't make as many movies as John Ford or Alfred Hitchcock.
Obama and his goons continue to target Fox News.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/18/white-...
If this isn't scary, I don't know what is. How long before this Communist dictator storms Fox's offices and seizes their computers? The letter "C" networks better wake up, because, if they don't tow the line, they're next!
probably not. But there are many norht shore Cub fans who are clueless koolaid drinkers.
They are not REAL Cub fans. They think Mark Kirk is a Republican, too. But the Sox/blue collar/union thing is real.
So let's say it's a narrow Cub victory. Sox Park is Obama country, pal…

yes, Barry can sing a song. Even if he didn't write 'I Write the Songs'…
Bacharach is preferred but neither belongs in the rock Hall of Fame. However it is NOT a meaningless boycott. Add Progressive Insurance to your boycott list and we'll join..
they seem to be letting in some who aren't necessarilly the obvious chice recently. so who knows.
yes all things evil in Ohio can be included.
Sorry to those of you who live there, but that is your own choice.
Kudos to JOHN STOSSEL !
John Stossel is a powerhouse of an investigative reporter. After 28 years at ABC he is now a new member of the FOX news family. Stossel is his own man, but FOX, unlike ABC, will support his abilities to seek truth for truth's sake. The meltdown of MSMedia continues.
You're right, it did. Unfreakin' believable.
I read that and was about to post the link but I see that I don't have to. You're right though, VERY scary.
Alright!
Mary Astor in "The Palm Beach Story" has always been my role model.
"Mad Men" keeps gettin' better.
Please, don't mention Mark Kirk.
Back to the Sox\\Cubs. I can attest to the Sox/blue collar/union thing. I am one of those. I know it may be hard to believe but most of the blue collar types have a "conservative" tilt. It is mostly because they are racist. Either way, we both have a good share of Obamobats. (and they drink the koolaid down to the last drop)
The stuff that dreams are made of
It sure does! Betty now knows Don is Dick. What to do? Don has bit off more than he can chew with the Stalker Schoolteacher with the Nutty Brother. Roger is a hoot. What's with the Brits getting rid of Sterling-Cooper? Who will own it next? Poor Sal…and BRING BACK JOAN!!!
As a prelude to an attempted takeover of the media, Obama removed some of his opposition by falsely accusing Fox News of being the GOP mouthpiece. Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff and the propaganda minister, insisted that those not disregarding them with be ostracized as well, thus parading lurid details about the news reporters. Talk show hosts who warned listeners against letting their friends and relatives become part of the Obama Movement were subject to smear tactics. Thus Obama silenced the mouths of those who would dare oppose him.
I hate comparing Obama to a German dictator in the 1900's, but if the shoe fits.
she usually looks like a walking, talking pic-nic table…
the funniest example of bad liberal government (i.e. Chi-town government) at work is when a WalMart had the unmittigated gall to apply for permits to build a store in Chicago or a close related suburb. It was denied with all the typical flurish of the a$$hole union thugsand enviro-radicals and a whole cadre of nuts. WalMart moveedthe project about two blocks to a receptive township which welcomed the jobs and sales tax revenue . score another VICTORY for liberal governence. My Dad is from Kankakee, south of Chicago but grew up in Chicago Heights. I have many relatives in the Chicago area and love going up there. I spent almost an entire Cubs/Pirates game wandering from hotdog stand to hotdog stand last time I was there! Love the "fried dough" at the park stands, pizza…damn I'm hungry now (and not 6'00" 390lbs!)

Calling Gary Trudeau! Please read today's Day By Day and and put down your pen while you hang your head in shame. And give the money back you talentless thief.
First saw them in 1976 while they were touring 2112, and recording the tour for the live album version…there was no barrier between the stage and the crowd, I leaned on the stage… I've seen them at least 5 or 6 times since, as best as I can remember…
The Pro Football HOF in Canton is pretty cool…
WEAR IT !
If it looks like a fascist duck, and walks like a fascist duck, and quacks like a fascist duck . . .
then it's time for duck dinner
The Pro Football HOF in Canton is pretty cool…
Of course it IS short of Cowboys legends, and there are quite a few…let's face it!
Agreed, love Vegas, that's my kind of town. Last time I was there I was dispatched by the boss to buy her a hair brush (?, don't ask!) and got a sunburn in two blocks. A $2.00 brush cost $8.50. I thought I was in Europe.
Is AC/DC in? I saw them with Bon Scott before he died, I think in '77.
as a "jingle writer"! he is/was a quite prolific jingle writer
damn it dd, when you make sense you make damn good sense! we must rest you away from the evils of liberalism and drag you to the libertarian/conservative bent.
Fact-check the administration? How dare they!!!!
I'll help you rarely leaving Texas unless it's to fly over the People's Republic of Taxachusetts. I did enjoy visiting Fenway a few summers back. I left my Yankees hat in the car in an effort not to have to get in a fist fight with a toothless Bostonian though!

I was in a university library when I watched this. I blurted out loudly WHAT? what a POS Murtha is, a complete POS!
You have my condolences. I live in NY. Fortunately upstate.
To be honest, I don't think its that big a deal.
First off, it's a commandment on the left to never, ever, (and I really mean it) ever, watch FOX.
Secondly, and more importantly, the main reason for this, is the left needs to have villains to hate and attack. This White House always attacks some one, or some thing. Character assassination is all they know.
By attacking FOX, its giving cover to the other news to cover this, instead of what really is going on in Washington.
Check out this book then, I took it the the Jersey Shore on vacation a few years ago, and I love it.

Trudeau is a leftist, he has no shame. He reminds me of Letterman, used to be funny, some time in the distant past.
Today, I don't even waste my time.
Great great piece, great background in the companion pieces there, Gunny, well worth the reading time for anyone who is despairing of there being any hope in these dark times, and the darker , to come.
They're still fighting about that. There are three newly proposed Wal-marts that the city council will be voting on soon. If Wal-mart would just grease the right palms (or as we up here call it "drop the envelope") it would be a done deal.
p.s. Small world. I grew up in the south suburbs and went to the local Catholic high school in Chicago Heights. (also known as "Da Hites".)
He goes after plenty of villains in that one. I gave it to my sister when I was finished, she loved it. I told her to don't bother giving it back to me, find some mind out there just waiting to be educated!
I yam what I yam James
this was hard to find – good link

AC/DC got in years ago. the whole thing is pretty much a total joke with some of the non-rockers they’ve voted in. One of their top officials is a RUSH hater and keeps them out every single year.
http://www.rockhall.com/inductees/inductee-list/
That was fantastic dd, you made my day. Interesting bit about the R&R HOF having a *personal* issue with RUSH. Without them included it basically invalidates what they're there for, honor those acts and artists tat have transcended time and changing societal tastes.
Thanks for the link, Colbert was funny too! (words I thought I'd never utter)
Peart is a brilliant lyricist in addition to being probably the finest rock drummer I've ever seen live, a that's big boat load of great drummers.

Ah, Mary Astor! I particularly liked her in Dodsworth; she was my favorite other woman. Also, does anyone here know about her famous affair with George S. Kaufman? She apparently kept a diary, which later became part of the public record because of her divorce from her husband, who unfortunately for her happened to read her diary. Wild scandals back in the day. When the press asked Kaufman about it, he said, "no comment, but you may say that I did NOT keep a diary."
Jamesb
Oh now Jamesb are you being racist or just snarky, like me?
To me James, Michelle seems to be, either trying to swallow her teeth like someone high on coke, or disingenously emotional. I dunno that's just my observation.
BTW Yanks lost a tough one, today, oh well get em tomorrow.
nothing racial about a large (not fat) woman wearing broad stripes and checkers! Call Mr.Blackwell, not racist, pu-leeze!
ya, tough loss, but C.C. shut 'em down manana! Is it 2-3-2 format? either way I see a 3-1 lead if C.C. is on.
i'll try to, it's one of those on my mental book list that I haven't got to. I would love to see him unleashed on ACORN or SEIU
thanks
Don't worry – the Socialism is spreading.
Has anyone had the opportunity to read the 1,502 page Senate Healthcare Plan yet?
I saw Where the Wild Things are this weekend. Then I went to a really depressing movie called "Where the Wild Things are". For a kids movie it was a real downer.
That's the Administration's message to the American people in 2009.
In response to the White House's war with Fox new I submit this bumper sticker – WATCH FOX. I DARE YOU ! and if that doesn't work – WATCH FOX. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!
Jamesb
Ok -not racists…I just wanted to be part on the 'in crowd' and use the label.
It is sooo cold out here in the real world…..I needs me some global warming….I hear it is on Sale in Oslo. When the won goes there- maybe he can pick up some along with his pizza prize.
I'm a little late in replying, but . .
I'm not sure exactly what Betty knows. I think it only showed a Don Draper divorce and some photos of Dick, as if to leave "us" unsure of how much she learned.
Love it all, and agree Roger is hysterical.
sad but true…
however when it comes to worthlessness the Cubs can't be topped- the worst free agent signing in the history of professional sports- no the worst business move by any entertainment enterprise in history- 'Fonzie' Soriano… so there's that…
