EIF RESPONDS: Week of TV Promoting ‘Service’ Not Influenced By Obama
by Big Hollywood***Video of Glenn Beck’s response below***
From today’s L.A. Times:
An EIF memo to show runners explaining the project obtained by Big Hollywood describes the initiative as a response to Obama’s push for more community service. But Paulsen said that she and EIF board Chairwoman Sherry Lansing were inspired by hearing both Obama and Sen. John McCain speak about the need for more volunteerism at a service forum during the 2008 campaign. …
Entertainment executives first hit on the idea during a board retreat in summer 2008 when they were brainstorming how to follow the “Stand Up to Cancer” project, according to Mitch Metcalf, NBC’s executive vice president of program planning and scheduling and a member of the EIF board.
“We’re lucky that the Obama administration happened to think this is a worthy cause and the first lady in particular is behind this general effort,” he said. “But that just provides support and shines a spotlight on it. . . . We’re certainly not servicing the White House.”
Just a refresher … the leaked network memo opens with the words, “President Obama has called for…” But this has nothing to do with him.
Glenn Beck takes this on here…

Not about Obama. yeah,,,I was born at night but not last night!
I was watching How I met your Mother tonight and Barney made a joke as to how he got all of this great medical care and treatments in Canada and then he said they forgot to charge him for it. Second case this week I have noticed of this- coincidence?
*servicing* is an excellent term for what they're doing. LOL.
Volunteering is a good thing but we have plenty who do it already. Think not, just try to sign up at a Homeless Shelter to help at a Holiday Dinner. You have to get on a list and you may not get called for two years!
It most certainly was indeed a joint project. Even the ladies of The View today said they had "partnered" with the Obama Administration in a dedication to "service." Looking for the vid now.
In grammar, double negatives make a positive. The EIF denial brings to mind two positives that make a negative: "Yeah, right."
Well if Sherry Lansing says it so then it must be so. Of all people we can trust it must be Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore. There has to be a sitcom in the works too entertain us through these times of unbelievable follies of lies.

Turn that freaking liberal talking box off in your houses. I've been enjoying eight years now television free. I enjoy the internet and a few DVD's now and then.
This stuff is scary. Volunteering is giving freely. Why the push to volunteer. I expect to hear about the "citizen army" soon. Will that be considered "volunteering"?
Don't bet on it.
Well, if O was responsible, he could finally claim to have accomplished something. He claims accomplishments that haven't been done, and refuses credit for what he has done. The whole world has gone insane and he's our Dear Leader.
I don't want any one at Hollywood telling me what to do – we don't watch TV because we don't want to be brainwashed by these arrogant immoral so-called elites. We avoid the mainstream media wherever it is – and it is scary how brainwashed you get from being exposed to that stuff.
This happens all the time on many many issues. Notice how many interracial couples there are lately? A few years ago it was gay women all over the place. What's next? I swear they plan this stuff – it is TOO much of a coincidence!
What's the point? Haven't they told us for years that subtle messages don't get through to our kids from the tv. They just ignore all that sex and violence right?
Volunteerism does not need any promotion in the United States of America. We are an extremely giving people and it has been my experience that there are always plenty of volunteers when they are needed.
This is the Obama administration's way of speaking down to us again because we are all too stupid to volunteer on our own.
Next thing you know, they're gonna be telling us when to go to the bathroom!
I agree. I haven't watched a televised comedy or drama in years. I stopped watching the fake history, fake science, fake geography, and biased discovery channels as well. Fox News and EWTN (Catholic television) are the only outlets that I occasionally watch. Hollywood . . . get serious. I'd rather burn my money.
Whoa! Going a little off topic there.

Interracial couples? What evil will they think of next!?
I believe Obama's volunteerism will lead to the "Civilian" army he spoke about – just as strong and well-funded as our military. We have to stay alert and ban together to stop the crazy liberal left that has hijacked our country. They've betrayed our trust on countless issues and are attempting to take over the country without a shot being fired.
Perform a service and go to Disneyland? At my house we call that bribery.
Same thought crossed my mind as well. For thespians they sure chose their words poorly – but perhaps accurately.

"We’re certainly not servicing the White House"
I couldn't stop laughing after I read that line.
HA-HA!! Isn't that Bawney Fwank's job?
Personally, I'm a tad busy trying to maintain my (quite frugal) standard of living as well as keep students at the studio while their parents consider pulling them from one or two classes because they themselves have to be more frugal with their expenditures. Volunteering is a lovely thought and is something that I look forward to some day…at the rate our country is going, I will probably volunteer the day before I pass from this world…sorry, friends, I'm usually not so cynical or morbid….
Not influenced by Obama?
So they're just radical losers all on their own?
Hussein and his Posse of Clowns are idiots! This is their agenda to spew their PROPAGANDA. I recommend you give up the TV for 1 week and read a good book. Recommendations: Anything not written by Hussein or his Posse of Clowns b/c, you got it, it's full of PROPAGANDA!
Yeah I'm sure the execs of the networks got together and just spontaneously decided to all write in a little extra about socialism and how no one volunteers.
Ain't it? The blatant hypocrisy is amazing. But that's par for the course for Hollywood and its Obama worshippers.
I couldn't believe it when I read that. We don't need to parody these fools, they do it all on their own!
Just got done watching CSI: Miami. It had nothing to do with service or volunteerism. Instead it was a hit piece on genetically modified food and big agriculture. This show has always been unintentionally hillarious, but this took the cake. The capper was the big food company president saying "if feeding 500 means the death of 1 guy, then it's worth it." And it ends with split shots of part of the team shutting down the 'evil' farm and another part working in a community garden. If the rest of the shows are this blatant (and I expect nothing less), then we could have a great week of laughably bad television.
The only thing they did get right is that the organic farm was a subsidiary of a larger food corporation. I'm sure that they didn't intentionally mean for that to happen, but at least they got one thing right.
I think it's actually a deeper program to federalize volunteerism. Remember his call for a civilian army and now the funds in the stimulus to expand Americorps and create new "service" organizations. Look at how everything in this organization is pushing and prodding people to do what they want. Just another episode where if you replaced Obama with Bush the left would be apopletic.
There a few Hollywood type that might last after the cameras are gone, most of them won’t. After all this is hollyweird it is and always will be about themselves first.
I nominate the Kenyan donkey scrubber to "service" in a cell at Leavenworth until he's Hussein in the Membrane.
BARACK in the BARRACKS!!
No, the execs and Obama got together to push their agenda on us the peons that don't know any better. You know get rid of God and replace him with service to our dear savior.
I dont know what to believe anymore. My trash has been knocked over and my dog is pregnant. Anita Dunn's propaganda video tells me it was George Bush.
Obama and Hollywood tells me to service them, oops, i mean our country. I think all of our rumps are going to be hurting while waiting in line to get into the majic Kingdom.
I thought the same …….. servicing ….. yeah !
I would like to service my country be being a volunteer journalist for NBC who would actually ask hard questions about Obama just like they used to do with bush.
I would like to volunteer my free service to all maintream media to set up a debate with Al whore and scientists who disagree with him about his gobal climate change THEORY.

Heroes was pushing the volunteerism spiel and community work ethic yesterday evening…not subtle at all.
and all the bozos on the bus will be defended by lawyers and other reptiles…
the writers' strike a couple years ago was the best thing that ever happened to my wife's and my evenings. i'll bet i've read 150 books since kicking the habit of flipping on the idiot box every night.
While I'm not opposed to encouraging folks to help those who, through no fault of their own, need a temporary helping hand, but it seems we have a situation in this country where the same folks do the helping for the same folks who need the help and it's not temporary.
Rahm Deadfish and Odumma aren't fooling anybody. Er, maybe obamunistas like Ashton Kuncher who will gladly follow Dear Leader anywhere.
Rahm has been talking about that 'civilian army' for a looooong time. <a href="http://eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=e4qG6UIr8z” target=”_blank”>http://eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=e4qG6UIr8z
Why do you do that? You're oh-so willing to twist someone's words.
Let me explain, dim bulb — The interracial couple is NOT the issue. The idiots who write and produce television and other entertainment are the issues. Those idiots' willingness to stop entertaining and start preaching is the the issue. I don't need some New York or Hollywood idiot to tell me what to think about gay people, black people, interracial couples are any other social phenomenon.
Do us all a favor and sharpen up. Better yet, get lost.
As with most things the truth is somewhere in the middle. Obama&Co think that only government can inspire people to freely give of their time, and the sympathetic writers and producers think of ways to convey that in their dialogue. So long as the advertisers keep buying commercial time the execs don't care what the message is, and the public has a choice to pay attention or ignore it.
In the end it comes down to people in government misjudging the American people.
You know, Monica Dickey, they've been doing this for a long time. Certainly, it seems as if they've redoubled their efforts to take our country down, in an all-out effort to show Dear Leader what malleable lapdogs they are.
Where's all the "help" for the middle class, newly unemployed, having a hard time paying the bills types???
How about a little help for the "I have a dream to own my own business" small business types??
And while we are at it a little help for the "Getting ready to retire but can't because I lost my retirement fund when the gov't took over GM" types??
Any help for these types? At all.
David Caruso is totally hilarious, completely by accident. We used to make fun of Chuck Norris in the role of Walker:Texas Ranger, but I believe ol' Dave has him beat by a mile.
Oh, yeah, the "messages" are great, too. We're supposed to just subliminally take the messages to heart, never just baldly and rudely snatch it up and take a good, close look at it.
Trash knocked over, dog knocked up. Whole lotta knockin' goin' on.
Yeah, you're right: Our hineys are gonna be massively injured. (Think going camping with Elton Johnny after he "accidentally" left the second sleeping bag back in the apartment.)
You're entirely right, Jenna. I think most people resent the heavy-handedness and the hypocrisy.
Liberals are great at saying: "Gimme your cash, so I can help your neighbor." Problem is, they're going to hold onto as many of their own dollars as humanly possible.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah right Obomabots.

"drilling into the empty well of liberalism."
Makes sense.
There's gotta be a memo or a phone conversation or something that leads back to the White House…..
My granddaughter was watching Hannah Montana and when I heard her and other Disney "stars" spewing this "change the world" crap in a community service commercial I fell out of my chair! I should have unplugged the TV and thrown it out the window. My sister said even Dancing With the Stars had one pair of the dancers give their little blurb about how the executives push the stars to take time out of their practice to volunteer and they ended up sitting outside an animal shelter with dogs in their laps.
They don't call many of the people in this country "sheeple" for nothing.
There is so much wrong with this administration it's hard to even begin, so I've tried to take the opposite approach and name one thing right with it. I came up empty handed.
All of this Service, Obey, Hope is a JOKE on our Country – period. This BS is really getting very old and it reeks of a dictatorship. I am happy the baseball playoffs are on ………Maybe the League can keep baseball on all the time for the next three years because when I watch baseball – I can feel like I did BEFORE November 4th 2008. Not having to worry about whether or not I have healthcare or where the hell my money went or maybe tomorrow I will be unemployed etc etc etc ………….I am sick of this ship of fools. We are living a obama telethon and it will never end – until we are all broke.
Let's get basic here. Volunteerism is just that: to voluneer. Even if God Himself came down and asked or suggested that we volunteer, are we obligated to do so? If you don't want to do it even if the rest of the world pontificate about it, don't. Just do NOT put down the good volunteerism does wherever it comes from.
Like Beck, somehow some people think hat simply because Obama or Holywwod mentioned it, it has to be bad; to be disparaged. Beck et are are pretty sick.
Mojo
You hit me where it hurts.
I just had to reply.
I've been watching the Monty Python 40 year anniversary stuff, and I thought of the Firesign Theater.
I'm not that old. I was 7 years old when my bother was in Vietnam.
Marx (groucho) or Lennon? (Firesign Theater.)
I love dissent. We don't get enough of it.
All of those people who protested in Chicago in 1968 (I was just a little kid then) scare me.
I lived there.
They got a new thing now. I'm still a scared little kid.
Best,
IrwinB
Yes I saw that show too and sat scratching my head a bit about the blatancy of the propaganda against the food giants. Mind you I grow some organic veggies in my garden and if I have to buy produce I usually do so at the local farmers' market or at Whole Foods market, but I still believe that commercially grown foods have a place in this world.
This is exactly what I've been thinking about this whole "call to service" agenda. As if people don't already volunteer.
The irony of this is that it's the liberal utopian nanny state that actually discourages volunteerism. After all, why "work for free" to help your fellow man when "it's the government's job to take care of us!" (as heard in "The Story of Stuff")
I have noticed that within the last year numerous television shows now feature black directors, chiefs, etc. Suddenly, everyone who is at the top of the food chain is not white. I don't think that is by chance.
If you can see the bigger picture for just a moment, you'd understand that nobody here thinks that volunteering is bad, and if you'd really read the posts and listen to the commentary, nobody – even Evil Glenn Beck – is putting down the good that volunteerism does. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that most of the participants on this site volunteer regularly in their communities in some way, more than Ashton Kutcher has in his whole life. What we take issue with is 1) the idea that people need the government, and specifically Obama, to "inspire" us to help others and 2) the purposeful steering of people to volunteer for organizations like Planned Parenthood, Americorps, and other groups who are working to actively push the president's agenda on issues like healthcare, the environment and the economy.
When it comes down to it, they're not pushing volunteerism. They're manipulating people. There is nothing good in that.
they call it 'volunteering' but make it mandatory and budgeted $7 billion for it.
Health Care messages have been rampant over the last 10 days. Every time I see propaganda on a t.v. show, that is so blatant my 5 year-old could pick it out, it is time to cross that show off my list. – Discovery Chanel gets a pass, every show they run gets a global warming dig in -
One word-BULLS**T!
Ah said it before, an' I'll say it agin — TIN FOIL HATS! It's the only answer to fightin' them brain waves they a'sendin' from the White House! Get yourself a big ol' sheet and cover yer whole head if you can. Keep it nice and fresh, too.
I don't need people that pretend to be other people tell me to volunteer. I do, however, think nobody needs to buy anymore drivel in the form of movies from the same people. Seriously, I have not rented or bought a movie for about a year and probably won't buy or rent ever again.
I don't watch it anymore either. The divide between Hollywood and reality is too reflected in anything they produce. Ashton K. lecturing us about giving our time to serve is ABSURD! If he can get people to work for free because he married Demi Moore, well then, I AM OUTTA HERE! The "reality" of the times we are living in with this President is enough drama, comedy, and tragedy for me. Reality has "jumped the shark" as they say in Hollyweird!
Hollywood better open their eyes! The more people that turn off tv shows that we used to love because of the propaganda seeping through…the less money they and their sponsors make! I LOVED CSI Miami…but not now…too bad, if one fan was lost (me!), then I am sure that there are thousands of others that will follow!!! Maybe Hollywood hot shots need to volunteer more of their MONEY if they really want to help…watching idiots like Michelle Obama handing out food in $500 sneakers does NOT impress me at all!!
I have seen one on new old chritine…..BTW as I read the morning comics in my local newspaper, over half were about community service. So the comics were the joke today
Over half of the comic this morning had a community service theme. Guess the jokes on them.
OK, OK, your right! Our mistake to think we idiot consevatives could EVER figure you out! The thing is Rahm, et al, it is basic human instinct to know when we are being lied to and up against something threatening us. So, it is possible for us to have the intellect of a basset hound and still smell a rat. The left might want to consider how ugly things get when it gets primal.
