Shock: Obama Not Left Enough for SNL
by Big HollywoodSNL finally took on Obama in earnest this weekend:
This sketch wasn’t aimed at Rahm Emanuel, Joe the Biden, or Tim Geithner… it was targeting the Man himself. But did SNL really turn over a new leaf? Nope. The criticism leveled at Obama was that he is failing to execute the brilliantly conceived left-wing aspects of his agenda as stated in his campaign. Of course, there is no casting judgment on those ideas and no mention that most of America doesn’t actually support them.
This is a tactic Bill Maher has mastered. He has repeatedly leveled humorous critique at Obama, but the arguments always hinge around Obama not behaving like the left-winger we thought we elected.
While it was refreshing to see a sketch where Obama is the punch line, Big Hollywood’s massive editorial staff is still unimpressed (and un-amused, but that’s for another post).
We invite you to use the comments to list some of the things Obama has thus far failed to do that would have appeared in the sketch had the writers been more sympathetic to those of the center-right persuasion.

Can anyone tell me who still watches SNL? Why not make Michael Moore permanent host, and put this has been show in the toilet where it belongs.

While I appreciate the thought that it is refreshing that SNL made Obama the "punchline" of a joke, I'm with Bafoon. I don't watch anything on NBC unless it is a major live sports contest such as the superbowl. Since SNL became so obviously partisan in their political satire, I would never dream of watching. It does beg the question, what kind of ratings this S**tty show pulls anymore?
SNL skit: A tax is not a tax, I don't give a Damn what the Merriam-Websters Dictionary says, George.
I stopped watching SNL a long time ago. I don't understand how they can still be on the air. Is it just so funny that enough people watch it to keep it around? I have a hard time believing that since it wasn't that funny when I stopped watching it. They must have pictures of someone at the top of NBC doing something naughty.
In 5 months, the US Dollar has dropped 26% in value.
No one thinks that is funny.
The SNL skit really wasn't against Obama, they portrayed him as a normal, almost likable guy. The actor portraying Obama had none of his arrogance or disdain everyone in his voice.
According to the papers in Denmark, It was Obama's arrogance and lack of respect that turned the IOC against him:

I would love Obama if he would throw off his Leftism and turn around 180 degrees and start fixing what's wrong in congress with the lobbies, the special interests, the line items, and all that stuff. If he could just stop one of those legal or illegal corruptions, I'd love him so much. Fix the healthcare system we've got. His people would hate him but I'd love him.
I remember the 'promise' of hope and change. We haven't got much hope with the promise of radical change.
Pointing out that he's inept in great detail is a lot more than I thought I could ever expect. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth at this point. It's not like you can erode his support with Republicans or any Independents that are paying attention. This helps undermine his support with koolaidsters. That can't hurt.
I completely agree with the [huge] big hollywood staff–they didn't make fun of what's really going on. First, there's no attempt to mimic how he speaks, droppin' his "g's" to sound folksy (Hilary Clinton comes to mind), for example. I would love to see a skit of Obama speaking very differently in front of a partisan crowd, and then to Michelle or Rahm E. (Acutally, I think he's so UNreal, I'm not sure what the "real" Obama would sound like). Next, he could be satirized by endlessly speaking at a press conference but not saying anything (which is what he does), in big, incoherent platitudes. Finally, he should be mocked for all the centrist stuff he claimed he endorsed (not raising taxes on the middle class), and children from an Obama-praising video asking (singing) how he's going to pay for his programs ("Barack Hussein Obama…nah unh unh…500 trillion savings from Medicare…We don't think the saving's there…nah unh unh). I could go on and on…but it's not so funny when you think of how he's f-ing up about Iran and Afghanistan…What difference does it make if he pronounces it "Tallybahn/Pahnkistahn" if he has no clue how to govern? "Tomato/Tomahto Potato/Potahto. Let's call Obama a fraud."
Obama-lama-ding-dong still thinks he's in Chicago running Chicago style politics. I get the sense he enjoys the perks of the office but doesn't have a clue what he's doing. We've basically got a management trainee in place to deal with issue's he's not qualified to address.
I stopped watching SNL, Letterman, Leno, Maher….etc. when I reached puberty. What a bunch of cowards and hacks including the insipid John Leibowitz and his little fag brother Colbert!
Yeah they should do more on Letterman…he is easier a better perv for these jokers…
Obama is disposed to making extreme changes in his views and always spinning the political state of affairs—to retain or restore the disguised stamp of official approval—that are embraced by his Fascist inner circle.
Obama's disdain for capitalism is made manifest by nary any coin for Main Street—the death of small and medium size businesses is an end to which all his efforts are directed.
The countries economy is teething on an economic cliff—-a nuclear bomb of "DEBT" is Obama's weapon to destroy the countries material resorces and to overthrow our allegiance to our free market system and our fidelity to our families.
I would offer a possible sketch ownly if Jon "Thats the Ticket" Lovitz is available.
You're right the won is has a plethora of material to ridicule, and you listed some good ones. Walking into the window instead of thru the door at the Oval Office, which he rarely seems to occupy, would be another example.
You can hire me SNL. I find His Awesomeness very funny. I've made over a dozen Obama videosand 100s of photos even though I have little tech skills and I am an old lady. Watch my videos and have your people call my people.
President Awesome in All His Awesomeness If the link is broken click my name.
another promise: a new era of transparency including putting non-emergency bills on the White House website for 5 days before he signs them.
It is pretty remarkable that He was able to go around for months saying there were 48 million uninusred Americans, and then all of a sudden speak to Congress and use the 30 million number.
Not one joke about that ever from anyone?
Note the Glenn Beck comment focal to the skit. Obviously SNL got the WH note through Obama's political apparatus centered on "Change for America". Over the last two weeks my local newspaper, the Maui News, has printed several anti Beck letters, all from folks who consistently support left wing causes, and are linked to leftist groups like the Sierra Club. Content in our letters to the editor, and others across the country also referred to three pointed hats as the SNL skit did. Coincidence? Unlikely, by reason several official blogs on the Move on web site recommend to belittle Beck to blunt his message.
That said the skit was a first for SNL for Obama does not get off scott free. The skit exposed how Obama spins things. Going forward as SNL realizes there are four times as many conservatives and independents in America it will swing comic relief our way due to ratings.
I guess this is what they consider being "fair" – getting an actor to say he's Obama without actually trying to be Obama (say whatever else, Will Ferrell at least SOUNDED like Bush, Tina Fey at least LOOKED like Palin) using "jokes" that are neither humorous nor clever. To say this was half-hearted would be generous.
The only comment I heard was "Two more 5 o'clock network speeches and there would be no more uninsured. I didn't say it was humorous.
Here's another one (this is too easy): How about Obama "negotiating" with Ahmadinejad at a table, and yelling "You lie!" when he promises to dismantle the nukes facilities? (And he gets criticized by the Russians for breaking with protocol)
Don't forget gas prices have gone up about a Dollar a gallon (at least they have where live) since he took office.
You make it a satire by having him telling the press corp that he's sticking to his pledge, only to have them bring up each lobbyist by name until he's forced to change the subject. Then he tries to make the case for transparency, at which point someone points out Pelosi's refusal to put the health care bill on the internet before the vote. He says we're going to save 500 billion by rooting out corruption and waste from Medicare, when someone asks him if they already know it's there, why are they just letting it continue until the bill passes?
How about him trying to claim they've saved jobs with the stimulus, only to have the press corp point out that he said unemployment wouldn't get above 8% (or point out only 10% of the stimulus has even been spent, so shouldn't it be called something else……then come up with a funny name). They could also point out some of the more outrageous things money has been spent on and ask him to defend it (at which point he deflects by talking about Fox news).
He could also do a Czar skit where he attacks Beck or Fox news, by defending his Czars in a back-handed manner (like making Beck's point about the one who wrote about forced sterilization or giving animals rights to lawyers). The point is, to be funny it has to point out the irony. This skit tries to avoid the irony, although it does side-swipe it with the things he hasn't done (although it misses a few key issues like rendition and wire-tapping).
Why not do something like what Steven Crowder did, and have him talk about how "angry" and "mob-like" the Tea Party protesters were? He could contrast that with how "peaceful" Left-wing protesters are (by showing the G-20 people or signs from all the anti-Bush protests over the years. It's right there….the simplest of low-hanging fruit. SNL won't go there for obvious reasons, but if they did it would be comedy gold.

des you should write for snl, it might be funny and watchable…
It’s a start for SNL; maybe they can dig their way back to actually being funny instead of partisan hacks.
Here are a few ideas for them: ridicule obama for running to Copenhagen while Afghanistan burns. Ridicule obama for spinning unemployment at 9.8% when the real figure, when you take into account those that have gone from full-time to part-time and those that have stopped looking for work altogether, is at 16.8%. As far as I’m concerned he should be impeached for dithering with leftwing bullshyt while 1 out of 5 working Americans is unemployed.
Instead of addressing the root cause of the problem: high taxation, over regulation, govt interference, unfriendly business environment, no financial help for small-mid size businesses only union goons, etc, obama prefers to play leftwing professor with his social engineering projects.
Revolution 2010: Throw out every democrat
Revolution 2012: Throw out obama and the leftover liberal filth
Denmark is trying to repeal some of their liberal laws and former (liberal) ways of governing. "Trying" being the key word. No wonder they were put off by Obama.
The lower the value of the dollar. The higher gas prices will go.
SNL skit #1: "Let's Call It Something Else: A Tale of Disguising Public Option Healthcare".
SNL skit #2: "Let's Call Them Nazis: The Alinski Way of Marginalizing People Who Disagree"
SNL skit #3: "Damn! I Look Dumb!: Obama Does Copenhagen"
SNL skit #4: "Obama-the-Chainsmoker 'Cares' About Our Health"
uh, I wouldn't hold your breath, Lisa. He is a radical Chicago leftist ideologue who has made no bones about what he really wants . . . universal single government paid healthcare. How would that work? Everyone will have the same very crappy healthcare . . . but everybody except the extremely wealthy such as Barbra Streisand will have exctly the same crappy healthcare.
Chevy Chase looked nothing like Gerald Ford, he simply did pratt falls, this is nothing different.
I agree. While not as hard-hitting as many of us would like, I see this as a good sign. That skit was not nice to Obama. To the Left, it makes him look like a failure. To the Right, it makes him look like inept.
My hope that this was SNL putting their toe into the water that is Obama mockery. Now that they have seen that the water is not too cold, I would imagine we will be seeing more.
Wouldn't that be like a leopard changing it's spots?? NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!!!
It's been a long time since I last watched SNL and it would appear their presidential impersonators have become terrible. It's funny that SNL has to point out how useless this president has been so far but damn the acting sucked as well.
Where's the Unity? Besides the media?
I'm with you. It's the people who have been blindly following Obama screaming "Yes we can!" that need their eyes opened. If this just makes them give pause, then great.
Way to go Des! I'm glad your sense of humor is still working, I think I lost mine about 10 days ago.., Grrr….
The only way we may ever get rid of these people might be to just let them have their way.
I tuned out NBC/ABC/CBS/CNN after 2008 for the same reason.
This skit in no way and no how made Obama look good. As has been repeated ad infinitum, SNL does have a small conservative streak I believe due to one long time writer and Lorne Michaels being not a total liberal. A couple more sketches like this and I see this becoming Obama's label…completely ineffective.
Indeed- Fred Armisen must have either started out forgetting how to do his Obama voice and just ran with it for the rest of the sketch, or just dropped it entirely.
Does anyone else have trouble with the NBC clips? I can never watch them. Nothing happens when I hit the play arrow. Any suggestions?
Take away Maher and SNL and Obama is still the punch line!
At a biker tattoo contest, the winning biker had tattoos of Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi on his butt. Biden was on the left cheek, Pelosi was on the right cheek and Obama was in the middle.

For a more right-wing friendly sketch:
"As I promised, I will only be raising taxes on the rich. You know, those who make over $250,000 a year…no wait…$150,000 a year…hang on…$75,000 a year…Hmmm, nowadays if you even have a job you're rich, so I guess all bets are off."
"I know I said when I became president, I was going to sit down and have a reasoned chat with leaders like Ahmadinejad, Chavez, and Kim Jong-Il, so we don't have to resort to threats of violence. My secretary just hasn't been able to find an open conference room yet…"
"See, now that I'm President, being such a world citizen and all, the Islamic extremists aren't plotting to bomb us anymore! Oh…wait…"
"We warned you that if we did not pass that $787 billion stimulus package, the unemployment rate could go over 8%. Ooops."
Two promises come to mind immediately:
1. End government waste, corruption, and lobbyist influences.
2. Post-racial, bi-partisan, leader.
Instead, the exact opposite has happened. He is a lying, wanna-be, Celebrity-in-Chief who is unfit to fulfill the office of President. Sheesh, he doesn't even understand Business 101.
I'm not sure how to make it a comedy satire, I think it's a Horror Show.
For serious. Lorne seems to have forgotten that they had a 14-year high in ratings when Palin came on.
There's been so much material from Obama, lately, that they missed some classic comedy moments. Mmm, Mmm, Mmm!
I would offer a possible sketch only if Jon "Yeh, Thats the Ticket" Lovitz is available.
I turn the channel when Oh Chosen One comes on, so It will be a cold day in hell when I watch even a parody of him on this trainwreck of a show. Once upon a time SNL was funny. Now SNL and HBO "news" is just a bunch of liberal crap. Would someone clue me in as to why Bill Maher is a comedian and if so, what does he say that's funny?
"We have here a Mae West presidency"
This is brilliant! Donald Sensing becomes and instant hero in my book. He SKEWERS Obama in a most intelligent yet deservedly demeaning fashion.
This is art!
http://senseofevents.blogspot.com/2009/10/mae-wes...
Johnny Carson created a classic with the "How Many Ways You Can Say Dead" sketch. They could start with the idea that 95% of America will get a tax break.
SNL could run this every week. The Big Lie happens every day.
I would have added to the skit how the Dufus-in-Chief will stumble through anything on the telepromter. Obama took TOTUS to the Olympic Committee in Copenhagen — the first ever! I would rather go to TOTUS.com or MichelleObama'sMirror.com for some real comedy. SNL (StupidNinneyLefties) has not been funny for decades just mean.
Thanks for bringing this up, Bill. People eventually have to figure out the Fed's actions have consequences. One would think.
That's funny, Lisa. I would love Obama if he just WENT AWAY. He could take Pelosi, Reid, Frank and Schumer with him – for starters. What if we built a gigantic fantasyland on a desert island that caters to these politicians' huge egos and desire to control everything? We could call it "Liberal La-La Land." Should we check to see if Elba is open?

SNL must be getting desperate if it's finally breaking down and becoming funny again.
If $1 =$1 = $52 barrel of oil
If the dollar is worth $0.74(which is now is) then oil = $69 per barrel.
Pres. Opompous will throw the cast of SNL in the dungeon if they're not careful. After all….one dost never mock the annointed one (aka: ACORN).
When I saw this bit online ( because I stopped watching 20 + years ago and can't for the life of me figure out why it's still on) , I thought the same thing. This is not a slam against Obama like a slam against Bush.
this is SNL saying to obama that you have to get out there and change this country into a socialist utopia ASAP.
Count me in. I liked it. Yes, it WAS criticizing him because he hasn't been enough of a panty-waist liberal, but it was criticism, and at least we've reached the point where SOMEBODY on the left will say something. At least they got that poke in with the Chicago Olympics. You know that stung.
"Love" is a bit much. I don´t feel the need to love any politican. Respect would be nice.
What would need to happen is first that nothing gets passed now, no healthcare, no cap-and-trade, no more handouts to the unions. Then in 2010 the Democrats lose their majority in the House and lose bad in the Senate, too. It is unlikely, but it´s possible. Then Obama would have to accept reality and start working with Republicans to get one or two initiatives on the way that actually solve domestic problems.
But I don´t think Obama can do that. Say what you will about him, but Clinton was a two-term governor and a wily politician. He was liberal, but he also wanted to succeed as President and he knew the political realities. Obama is nothing like that. He is an intellectual (and not in the good sense) whose worldview combines the worst ideas of the 20th century with narcissism and inexperience. Will he get rid of the ideology and learn? I don´t see it.
All this video says is "WE (SNL and the radical left really think you are a NICE guy), but while we still LIKE YOU, and those right-wingers are still crazy, and let's get to the liberal agenda. We are politely telling you, please do what you promised us or we will elect another crazy socialist to do what you promised.
Is it me, or is that guy the worst Obama impersonator? Doesn't even sound like him. But atleast they finally attacked the messiah. Showing just how useless he really is. But then again, conservatives have known this all along. Nothing new there.
SNL still comes on? Have not watched that drivel since Eddie Murphy left.
Obama: I promised during my campaign that this would be a post-racial presidency. I succeeded you lousy white Nazi gun toting and God loving waste of skin Americans.
(The teleprompter moves slightly to his left. Obama moves with it)
Obama: I promised that I would say the economy. I did. After all, people in the United States still have jobs; teachers, politicians, union bosses, Acorn representatives . . .
(The teleprompter moves slightly to his left again)
Obama: I promised accountability. Well, I have that as well. How many zcars do I have again? Oh yes, about 35. Well on my way to account for all 53 states.
(Again the teleprompter moves to his left)
Obama: I promised to pass health care legislation (takes a drag from a cigarette). Just as soon as one, any one, is put on my table for signature. Its the thought that counts; unlike the ungrateful tax payers and old people who don't know when to die so the nation can save a few bucks.
(The teleprompter moves to the left even more).
Obama: I promised Gitmo would close and our soldiers would come home. Well (the telepromter zooms off the stage) Well, um, mmm, uh . . . hey, where did my teleprompter go?
Reporters: (wearing I love Obama. Obama is God. Just say Yes We Can. T-shirts) We'll get it for you.
How about his promise to go "line by line" through the budget, and deliver a "net spending cut?" How about the promise of "transparency" and the ban on lobbyists?
They left those off the checklist.
SNL is as sickening as they can be. Obama has not been the powerful Marxist operative they were so looking forward to worshiping. Their "rebuke" of him will not be recognized for what it is by many, and that's what SNL is looking for. This is PURE propaganda from the so-called arts community- Socialist Realism as it's called, and which Karl Marx himself advocated – and thank God Big Hollywood and other news organizations see it and expose it for what it is.
Obama at a Real Town Hall Meeting
Obama: Ladies and gentleman, I am proud to be here tonight where I can get you to help me change America. Yes I . . . I mean, yes you can! First, let me introduce you to my lovely wife Michelle.
Michelle: (stepping up to the podium) Why do I have to talk with stupid, white Trash, middling, crazy, unwashed mass Americans! (looking down at the microphone) Oh, is this thing on? Hi little people. I love you all! Peace and Flowers! (She leaves into the back of the stage).
Obama: (nervously) Don't mind my wife behind the curtain. She has terrets syndrome. As for myself, I will save you from all your problems. I will give you free health care, I will bring your soldiers home, I will bring back jobs. This will be done soon as you grovel at my feet and declare me Supreme Ruler of the United States of Cuba. Any questons?
Audience member: Are those yapping poodles your pets?
Obama: Oh yes, from far left to left of center is NBC, ABC, and CBS. My lap dog CNN couldn't be here tonight because its getting yet another makeover. This big dog called FOX keeps ruffling its coat.
Audience member 2: How are you going to pay for the health Care overhaul?
Obama: Don't worry, it pretty much pays for itself. All you have to do is give up all you own and your life savings. Then, we can hand out doctor visits as if they were candy. Since candy is bad for you then we will be careful to give as little as possisble. Everyone gets a sweet deal without overburdining the system.
Audience member 2: So, you will ration care?
Obama: Silly you. No, I won't be rationing care. I'll be expressing my magnificent generosity by allowing you to live with the wave of my most honorific hand.
Audience member: Isn't that Socialims or Communism? According to the dictionary . . .
Obama: I don't think you can call it that. If its in that evil Marriam-Webster dictionary then by all accounts of course its not. Its capitalism because all decisions are coming from the U.S. Capital.
A large group gets up in the audience: Freedom! Freedom! Freedom! Say no to Obama. Say no to Tyrrany.
Obama: You ungreatful Racists! I promise you the world and you want personal responsibility and that stupid piece of paper called the Constitution. Sick em . . .
(The lap dogs charge into the audience and start tearing them apart)
They're still on the air because in today's world, a viewership of one or two million is a hit. Back in the day, viewership was around 20 – 25 million and it was always the talk in the office on Monday. Now, it costs relatively little to produce, the cast is probably only getting scale and it's profitable.
The media doesn't criticize the President enough.
Then, when they do … it's not enough.
*no surprised*
No Democrat president can act like progressives want because their socialist dreams are delusional fantasies that require an unacceptable level of authoritarian pain to try to implement – and the attempt always FAILS!
I actually like the idea where Obama calls press conferences on contrived crises and he says basically nothing in grandiose style.
"You know…today we have a crisis….too many little boys are playing with GI Joes and not enough are playing with Barbie dolls…and too many girls are sipping imaginary tea at their little tea parties…What we need today (loud booming echo – even at small press conference)…is a bold new strategy…to make young boys more effeminate, more passive, less accepting of forced gender roles…and we must get these little girls away from their tea parties as quickly as possible…so today I am endorsing… the Dangerous and Subversive Toy Act of 2009…instead of dangerous games like GI Joe and tea parties, our goal is to make every young child as effeminate and as afraid of guns as possible…"
Lisa you are so right, and if he got rid of the lobbyists and just some of the corruption in Washington he would be a hero…..just lower taxes and help everyone in the country instead of paying off his thug friends!
GS post, "It’s a start for SNL; maybe they can dig their way back to actually being funny instead of partisan hacks". They have always been partisan hacks..I have been watching them for thirty years now..since the first show. Given the current political climate they feel they no longer have to keep up the pretense. But we are seeing this throughout all the cultural institutions from the media to the universities, to the schools. Its now right in your face..their agenda is clear..their attitudes about capitalism, traditional values, fly over country, and religion are not tempered or hidden but loud and clear and in your face! That's what, "Yes we can, " is all about. So this is no surprise for the staff of Big Hollywood..they know whats going down.
I found Armisen's imitation of Obama to be poorly exectuted. It sounded like he was just speaking in his own voice. I can do Obama better than Armisen. All I have to do is channel Reverend Wright.
Many countries in Europe are trying to roll back their socialist governments. Angela Merkel in Germany won reelection on a tax cutting agenda. Also, the Eurozone countries that didn't pass mega stimulus are pulling out of recession.
You may not have the latest version of Flash player. Try http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer and download it for free.
Indeed. Armisen at least tried to sound like BHO in the lead-up to the election and shortly afterwards (e.g., The "I Play it Cool" Digital Short). But this performance was just Armisen's voice- with a touch of a New Yawk accent to boot. SNL should have gotten this guy: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/5aa7aae6c6/obama... (if only for the 4 years BHO will be in office… hopefully)
What about bringing up his assertion that unemployment would not go above 8% when the porkulus was passed, and we've only managed to stay below double-digit unemployment by vigorous number massaging!
