COUNTER-PETITION: Roman Polanski Must Face Justice
by Big HollywoodWhile some of the biggest names in Hollywood have marshalled their money and power to seize the spotlight in favor of freeing a fugitive child rapist, we know that there are many in the entertainment industry who feel different and, as one friend put it, would like ”the rest of the country know that some of us in Hollywood have some morals.”
For those who feel the same way, we offer this petition.

Here are some guidelines:
1. Signers should have some firsthand experience in some field of entertainment. Performers, crew, writers, and non-professionals all qualify — as do those who report on the entertainment world.
2. Using the comments, please leave your name and title (i.e. John Smith – stunt man), plus whatever comment you’d like.
3. We don’t encourage them, but it’s not unreasonable to fear this petition may turn into a blacklist, so pseudonyms are fine. Please be clear that you’re not using your real name.
4. This is not a “burn him at the stake” petition. Your signature simply means that you believe Roman Polanski should be brought back to the United States and held legally accountable for his crimes.
5. Help spread the word that there’s a petition for others who feel the same way you do.

Seriously? No body from Hollywood yet. I'm not an "insider" as noted above. An outsider — who pays to watch movies and such. You people better know that the average public is getting pissed.

Many in Hollywood are either corrupt or lack any morals. There is a distinct difference between "most" and "many". There are a lot of good people in Hollywood and they are raising their voices.

I support the innocence of CHILDREN, and Mr. Polanski must pay for his crimes.
There once was a time when people wore "Free Poland" buttons. And now it's degenerated into morons sporting "Free Polanski" buttons? Thank goodness there's an "X" on the button in the picture.
I think he should pay for his crime, period.

But IMO Polanski is sleeze, and should be brought back if only to be publicly shamed along with these morally vacant celebutards that are defending him.

Nobody's talent, fame, or past sufferings put them above the law. It is long past time that Roman Polanski faced justice for the crime he has admitted to and been convicted of.

I hope he gets put in prison and gets sodomized by a very large inmate. No drugs though, Polanski must feel every bit of pain when he gets penetrated. I mean, it's not like I'm asking for prison rape-rape, just prison rape.
Novelist and Screenwriter
Feelings of compassion and identification are not the same thing as a moral compass – in fact, sometimes they point in opposite directions. We can admire Roman Polanski's work; we can sympathize with his suffering; we can acknowledge he is, as Joseph Conrad would've said, "one of us." He also raped a child and fled justice. He has to face the law.

Wow! Not one A-list name…shame on you hollywood. I know there are A-list men and women in Hollywood that love their children yet they are scared. Of what? Of whom? People can't disagree about an admitted child sodomite (yep it's an accurate statement per the grand jury testimony)?? Wow! What group-think and what chickens! There is no way Polanski should be allowed to evade justice for this disgusting and violent assault on a minor. I don;t care who he is or when the even took place. I was a young actress in England and I am only too aware of predators in the entertainment industry who take advantage of children. Not only would it be a failure of the justice system to forgive Polanski for these reprehensible acts, but it will grant permission for other sickos to follow his example, and send out a loud and clear message that we do not not take these crimes seriously. This petition should just the first step in coming down hard, very hard, on the entertainment industry for shining on the abuse of vulnerable kids and young adults. Enough is enough.

I'm a writer here in West Hollywood, and I want the guy put in jail for at least a few years. It's not just the crime he committed 30-some years ago. It's also the ongoing crime of ducking and thumbing his nose at our justice system. From my POV, every day he spent outside the U.S. added to his culpability.

I agree, we pay the money to watch these people. Polanski should ROT in jail!
[...] Sign the Roman Polanski counter-petition. [...]
My sister was brutally raped in college – she wasn't 13, she was 18. I find it disgraceful that people like Peg Yorkin and Whoppi Goldberg — supposed 'feminists' — are trying to mitigate the heinousness of Mr. Polanski's crime against this child. The opinions of Hollywood people who excuse and defend rape not only offend the cause of justice, they piss on the pain of all rape victims and their families who have suffered so much.
Very shameful and sad. I am stunned at this new low hit by Hollywood.

Thanks. I've always had a soft spot for "1941."
Thank you ever so much! I salute you!
Mr. Bernero: I know your work and am a huge fan of Criminal Minds and Third Watch. You have just moved up in my eyes as a man with a conscience and the backbone to stand with righteousness and not go along to get along. I am a female, a veteran of 2 wars now and a lover of entertainment and I had all but lost any hope that there were more than a few of your ilk still in that 'biz'. Thank you for signing this petition and for openly stating what every decent human being should be stating. Period! Stand firm, we stand behind you and any in that industry that will stand up and be counted! Bless you!
I have been a major Hollywood funder for four decades. The man must face the music for his terrible actions on that day. Read the court testimony from the original hearing and you'll agree that he should have been rounded up 30 years ago. He's been laughing at the American judicial system for all that time.
We'll all go to your next movie, promise!

Mr. Bernero, thank you for stating so eloquently how the connected should not be above the law. Only people of substance have the courage to stand up to an industry rife with corruption and to call an Emperor naked. I'm going to look up your work as your heart has an honorable rythym.
Polanski needs to find out about butt the sex the prison way. Hollywood is filled with a bunch of a- moral, humanistic, degenerates. Is it any wonder they defend him? You defend what you are, or what you agree with. I wonder how many secret unknown pedophiles in hollywood are defending him? Well, there's woody allen. How many of them agree with kid rape, or have raped a minor, or raped anyone for that matter? The secrets of hollywood. God knows them, and he does not forget. God should flush hollywood for the giant turd it really is. Clean it up old testament style. Can I get an amen?
It's ironic how the very people who so desperately wish that Polanski be commemorated for certain actions wish just as fervently that he be ignored for others.
-EHV, Pianist & Harpsichordist
Amen brother!
Polanski should be given the opportunity (in jail) to have the same experience he put this 13 year old victim through, without the drugs and liquor. Being the unrepentant monster and coward he is, this would probably be the closest thing to justice that could be dealt him. If he is ever released, his US citizenship should be taken away and he should then be deported.
As for Hollywood, it is reprehensible that anyone would support his release or have any sympathy for him in this matter. They should be boycotted and ignored for the rest of their careers and lives.
Thank you for your contribution, Mr. Bernero. You couldn't be more spot on. Enough is enough.

I'm disgusted by the response from some of the people in my business.
To be honest, I had mixed feelings when this news broke. Perhaps because of my love for Polanski's work, the victim's unimpeachable desire to be done with it, and not knowing all the facts of the case. Now I know. I've read the original transcripts. That was enough.
I'm now with famed director Luc Besson, perhaps the only French film artist who refused to sign the infamous petition: "No one is above the law." I started writing for Andy and John here in March because of my outrage over Team Oscar's trip to the gay-exterminating, women-stoning and now Green protester-butchering fascist regime in Iran. It is moral outrage to similar Hollywood insanity and equivocation that brings me here today.
Whether I ever do business with another script in Hollywood again is irrelevant. I will not option, sell, pitch or market the rights to my conscience at ANY price! Bring Polanksi to LA and let the chips of justice fall where they may. John T. Simpson, award-nominated and optioned screenwriter/Big Hollywood contributor.
Bring the creep back, toss him in the lock up and throw away the key.

I am the father of two young sons, and while I am a fan of Polanski's work and sympathize with his personal crises and losses throughout his life, there is NEVER an excuse to sexually molest a minor…EVER. If he were "Father Roman," would Hollywood be so forgiving and so quick to say it was a long time ago?? I doubt it. Time to drop the self-righteous act (e.g. Harvey "Narcissus" Weinstein) and apply the same standards of justice to Polanski that would be applied to anyone else.
Peace out…
How sad is it that decent people in Hollywood have to fear being "blacklisted" for demanding Polanski face charges on a crime he already admitted he committed?
How sad is it they value their "craft" so much they're afraid to stand up for morality and basic human decency.
And who would blacklist them if not other people in hollywood? '
Save your pseudonym petitions, Hollywood. From where I sit, you're all a waste of good air.
Grow a pair or shut up.
I will make sure to watch your show when it comes out. I am a mom of a 14 year old son but I use to be 13 and know the fear she had to have felt being violated in such a way. I have never watched Polanski's films and now will never knowingly watch anything of the ones who signed the pro-Polanski petition. This saddens me but there are lines that should never be crossed. Loved you Whoopi, can it was 'rape-rape'.

Such an act is NEVER excusable…EVER…no matter who the alleged perpetrator is. Would the Hollywood elite be demanding the same "forget about it" attitude if this were Father Polanski instead of an acclaimed director? I doubt it. Like a lot of people, the crime Polanski committed faded from my memory over time. I actually got an email from him 3 months ago when I asked him if he was interested in directing a script I recently wrote. It takes place in Poland, thus the reason I contacted him.
After I read the grand jury report, I was sickened by what he did. I couldn't believe I was corresponding with him. I'm far from perfect, but raping a child? From now on, I'll collaberate with the names of those who posted comments here.

Jail's too good, but alas, not exactly a perfect world.
Please return this criminal to the US to face justice.
Dear Sir,
Thank you for standing up for innocence. I was molested when I was 7 by someone my parents knew, and was forced to 'forgive' him because he had a hard life and didn't really mean it. I am 40 now, and as hard as I have tried to move beyond it- and I am proud that I have in many ways- stories like this bring it back, and make me want to howl with rage. I still get grief from family and friends because I will not leave my daughter in his presence- ever. I always hear, "It was more than 30 years ago! When are you going to get over it?"
I will never completely 'get over it'. I refuse to let it define who I am, but it definitely had a role in shaping who I have become. If anyone ever touches my kids, they won't have to worry about justice finding them, because I will already have.
I love your shows, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing with every child who has been victimized.

Hey, I've got a daughter. Somebody did that to my girl…hey, no police force in the world could keep the slime safe from me.
Nastaja Kinski makes two. How many children qualify a person as a child sexual predator?
The fact that the question, of whether or not a confessed child rapist should be brought to justice, is even brought to the table brings me to a boil. I truly hope, for all child rape victims especially Samantha, that this man is brought to his knees. Hollywood, I have to believe you are better than this. Can you imagine any other group of professionals coming together in this manor? And publicly admitting to it? It's disgusting.

Lee Taylor Grant spoke out against a REAL SOB, McCarthy, and was black listed for 10 years. She held her ground, and didn't flinch. And she's a little 5' girl. Kudos. It's clear who wears the pants in LaLawood.

He deserves far worse punishment than he is likely to receive.

Of "FlashForward"? It's fantastic to know I have a new, wonderful reason to keep up with the show! Thanks!
Bravo!
As a mother of three wonderful daughters and the step-mom of two fantastic step-daughters I am sickened by Mr. Polanski and just as much at the brainless Hollywood mouths defending him. Thank you for putting it so perfectly.
Mr. Broderick,
I believe there is a growing market for patronizing Hollywood projects whose participants actually have a moral compass. My family chooses very carefully what we watch and have a growing "blacklist" against the leftists in Hollywood.
We wish you much success in the future!
From a proud homeschooling stay-at-home wife and mother
You've been in some great shows! My wife and I will be looking out for your work in the future. I'm glad you're on the right side of this.
Polanski should be brought to justice in America where he can be jailed and subjected to the same harmless rape and sodomy that he forced on a 13 year old girl that he drugged.
ONE.
Glad to see you here Mr. Graham. You are a good man and a great father. Good luck!
This is sad….too afraid to take a stand.
Thank you and May God Bless You!
Polanski should be extradited and sentenced…..lock,stock and barrel!!!

Kelly,
You nailed it.
And KUDOS to Kirstie Allie and all the artists here taking a stand. It's high time Hollywood reflected YOUR values. Imagine John Wayne, Ron Regan, Jimmy Stewart, or Gary Cooper sitting still for this kind of outrage.
Not in this life!
Too bad Speilberg, whose major body of work is STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE WHO RISKED THEIR LIVES TO DO THE RIGHT THING, won't speak up.
OY! A pox on all their houses, lol.
When I arrived in Hollywood I was mostly a non-political liberal. When I escaped back east I discovered I was really a closet conservative independent. I'm a retired Insert/Camera Car owner/operaror.
If I still owned the camera car I would volunteer it and I to chain his feet and drag him with the "INSERT CAR from the Court House to the jail. Somehow that seems fitting.
Amen, Sparky!
Hey you, Jack Nicholson……you tellin' us you KNEW this guy and lived in Hollywood but didn't know about his little "idiosyncracies???"
Not buyin it, dude. I'm a housewife in Texas and I KNEW ABOUT POLANSKI! How could you leave that child alone in YOUR HOUSE with that letch?
O.M.G.
….and ANOTHER one bites the dust…..yeh!
I am eagerly awaiting your next article.
Alan!
YES!!!! This is exactly what Hollywood needs. Folks like you.
Dune, OMG! …..the BEST! Absolutely pioneering, everything about it. We watch it every year. My husband is a huge fan too.
More please.
Of all the statements I've read about the Polansky crime, yours has gone to the gut of the beast and named it for us all. Thank you for your decency and moral clarity. God bless you!
Also, I've always loved Criminal Minds, and now I know why and who to thank!
bobdog…
Aw man, now I gotta clean my monitor. I spit coffee all over it when I read your post. WARN PEOPLE!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Thank you!!!
I can not count how many of those Barbie movies we have. My five year old daughter can not get enough of them. Just because of that, I have seen them all the way through many times, and they are good if I do not say so myself. I never really thought I would be saying that.
I, FRANK RENZULLI, TV writer, do so with all my being, support the arrest and prosecution of Roman Polanski, film maker and child rapist. Also, I would move that legislation be brought about to prohibit any man shorter than 5'7'' from making movies.
It's time for Polanski to face the music. It has been too long and he has made a mockery of our justice system.

Good for you!
Thank you Mr.Bernero for standing up for what is right. Hopefully there are more like you in Hollywood than there are Polanski supporters. Good luck to you. My wife and I are big fans of Criminal Minds and we loved Third Watch. We'll be watching for you in the future. One thing about conservatives, we support the good guys!
I am a general consumer and nothing more, but I am glad to say I have never seen a film by this disgusting excuse for a human – and I've done this on purpose! The simple reason is because of this very thing we are united against – CHILD MOLESTATION (which he readily admitted, I might add)! I cannot fathom supporting this worthless piece of human garbage in any shape or form regardless of his past "tragedies". Harvey, Debra, Whoopie and Harrison, what the hell are you thinking? (Woody Allen, I can understand, considering his history) This walking excrement RAPED a 13 year old girl after plying her with drugs and booze. How can you Hollywood idiots defend him in the slightest? To show my continued disgust, I will boycott any film that he and his defenders are involved with and I ask that the majority of you reading this post do as well.
Kelleigh nelson – former executive producer for national radio host
What is wrong with people like Whoopi Goldberg who believes a 13 year old that was given drugs and alcohol and was sodomized by a 46 year old man is okay? If this was some scumbag banker or congresscritter, they'd be screaming for his hide, but because he's one of their own they want to allow him to get off scott free. He's a pervert folks, face it. The fact that he lost his wife years ago and that he gave us that wonderful movie, THE PIANIST, means nothing. He's still a pervert. Those that support this form of perversion are indefensable.
I loved "Eli Stone" Mr. Guggenheim!
amen here too!
We've got a bunch of the Barbie movies, too, and they are actually pretty good. And the"Nutcracker" one (the first one I saw – there have since been many more) is more than just pretty good, it's very good.
Voice over artist, actor, writer & producer…….It doesn't shock me one bit that the "Hollywood talent" just want to sweep it under the rug. Most of these reprobate people are the same ones who are most likely guilty of the same thing. Come on have you really taken a good look at Harvey W. as of late or how about Woody A.? Do you really think women have sex with these clowns without drugs. Bottom line is Hollywood is not the moral compass of the main stream world; anyone with a 13 year old little girl will agree. Lets face it if Roman did that to my little girl…Well, lets just say I would most likely be in jail for murder.
Our legal system is symbolized by a blindfolded woman with a scale. In the eyes of the law he's just a man, nothing more or less. The law and justice do not care if a person has some extraordinary talent or how many rich and famous friends he has. I'm shocked that this is even such a debate as it is. He is already convicted of unlawful sexual intercourse with someone under age 14 (see thesmokinggun.com for his guilty plea and for the victim's grand jury testimony of the nature of this crime.). He has served less than 2 months for this, and I can't feel it's possible to be too harsh on him, based on the nature of his crime.
He came to America to make films here so he could earn American dollars. So he needs to follow America's laws. If he thought America was too puritan for him, he could have chosen to be elsewhere before he committed his crime.
I'm a housewife whose husband is a tv director.
He should have been horse-whipped out of town when it first happened. (where are all the famous Hollywood feminists on the abuse of this young girl?_
He pled guilty, then fled to avoid punishment.

How this man is still able to be forgiven and excused for committing this heinous act is beyond my comprehension.
30 years of self imposed exile is not punishment it was just running from the law. He was still able to live the lavish lifestyle that comes with being in his position in the entertainment industry. Why is it that his supporters believe that the law does not apply to him. I doubt that if I were accused of raping a 13 year old girl that any one of these celebrities would stand up for me.
If someone slipped my daughter booze and drugs then of course they should be in prison.
Intercourse? How about cracking his skull open with that trophy on his mantle. And an 'eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind' might be a quaint hippie chant. You rape my 13-year old daughter and your friggin' eye is the last thing you should be worrying about.
ZERO AMBITIONS for Hollywood but I worked for Chasen's at age 18 when they catered parties. Oh yeah…I'm a freakin' comedian. I would be a good cinematographer and director. I can act as good as 50% of the waiters in LA which means not at all. And when I say you couldn't pay me to work in Hollywood…I'm a liar. I have my price but nobody is willing to pay it. Does this qualify me to sound off on The Frantic Pedophile?
Elana Fisher, producer and former wardrobe supervisor. Roman Polanski is not above the law. He needs to face up to his crime, and suffer the consequences.
Ya know, if they're still tracking down Nazi's and bringing them to justice, they can surely track this guy down and bring his ass in too. If ANYBODY else had committed this despicable crime, (outside the Hollywood elite circle) there would be no question that the person should be brought to justice; no matter how long ago the crime was committed. This is the glaring double standard all the delusion Hollywood narcissists are displaying.

I wrote the book to a musical (as well as produced/directed/played MEMPHIS, the abuser) titled SILENT HOPE. It is about child sexual abuse. It tours to public schools and teaches children that if someone is abusing them in this manner, that it's okay to tell someone and get help. Many children have been rescued by this production. Let us pray that Mr. Polanski is healed of his sickness and comes to terms with the acceptance and punishment for his crime against innocence and trust and that this sort of evil will cease to exist in this world. God watch over our children and give them strength to overpower their predators.

Another Amen. I have gone to a movie maybe once a year. My renting of movies has gone down to about two a year. Hollywood has become so immoral and degenerate that even their movies have no value. You know it will do one of two things; blow things up or mock middle or conservative America. Why people continue going to movies is beyond me. Almost all of them should be flops.
Ya know, if they're still tracking down Nazis and bringing them to justice, they can surely track this guy down and bring his ass in too. Patrick, I believe that Sean is saying Polanski needs to face justice, even though Sean enjoyed (enjoys) his films. The two feelings don't have to be mutually exclusive. To which I agree.
Very good point re: escape and illegal flight. I hadn't considered that. Sad that he would get more time for being on the run than he was looking at for raping a child.
[...] Mr. Weinstein overlooks the fact that the history of mankind is liberally dotted with despicable men who could draw an adoring throng. This issue transcends simple politics, there's no Left Right or Center here. There's just an atrocious, admitted to heinous crime which is being rationalized in the name of 'Great Art'. Ask these same people if it had been (God forbid) their daughter. Would they still be making the same comments and feel that it isn't "RAPE rape?
I agree with top Democratic strategist, Susan Estrich, who said basically: "Rape is rape!." (look up her excellent article this week, "Roman the Rapist" Sept. 30) And for a rare note of sanity in this bizarre episode of world-gone-mad upside down morality, look up Chris Rock's hysterically funny spot on the Jay Leno Show. Rock is the classic kid who cried out "Hey the Emperor has no Clothes!!!" Good for you, Chris. You are my hero. DZ
I believe this is a joke since Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin.

No one is going to be blacklisted over this. Wrong is wrong. As people face the truth regarding this case and this individual, they'll come around or forfeit their decency. Rapes a thirteen year old = the end. No amount of sophistication mitigates this. We are not being a puritanical society, but we are trying to be a decent one, one that maintains laws. Fleeing to France is romantic and everything, but whimsical notions of "second chances" aside, two facts loom: 1) it was clearly against her will; and 2) he broke the law again in running from judgment. The second is the snare he's been caught up in, which seems like a bad twist in an escapist film, but the first is why decent people should, and will, review the facts and then shun him. Roman Polanski, tragic talent, molester. It sucks, but it is.
Love the work all you want, but the man stands alone here.

Good for Kevin and Luc Besson. But then again it's weird we applaud someone in Hollywood for actually having (God forbid!) morals! Chris Rock also sated it was Rape! Rape! last night which was a good point and Kirstie Alley blasted Polanski as well.
It clearly was "rape-rape," and even if it hadn't been, so what? And, pace allahpundit, if his next film is really good, do the French and Hollywood types figure he get to bang a toddler? There are difficult moral questions; this is a gimme: bring him back, hold him legally accountable.

If there's going to be any blacklisting I suspect it's more likely to be by a public unwilling to put money in the hands of those petitioning for the release of a child rapist.
My name is Jack Marino, I am an independent filmmaker, writer, actor, producer, director and now distributor. I made a film called FORGOTTEN HEROES. I sign this because there is NOTHING Hollywood can do to me now, they blackballed me 20 years ago and I am still here selling my film, HA! I am the father of a beautiful young married daughter who is making me a grandfather of twins and I have a son who is a combat veteran that just got back from his tour in Iraq.
Polanski is a sexual degenerate throw the SOB in jail for raping a 13 year old girl and the fact he fled justice. Who cares how many films he made, film is just film, besides he got well paid for it. People are acting like he painted Sistine Chapels all over the world. Had he done his time he would have been out a long time ago. These Hollywood liberals think they are above the law, let them know where they are on the food chain. What surprises me is how many think it is no big deal that he had sex with a minor as if this was normal. Makes you wonder just how many other stars, producers and directors out there are doing the same thing all the time. Polanski just happen to get caught in that one time. How many girls did he do this to before and how many in Europe did this happen. Didn't he say everyone wants young girls??? Wouldn't it be funny if he started naming al his pals that have done the same thing.
I advocate justice for the victim.

OK shocked, listen bud.. I'm a very well outed (and oddly, I am proudly outed) Hollywood Republican…and ya, we do sufer from it. Be if from simply being ignored or not given "the calls" to being dirided on set/on the scene to literal verbal assualts from the far leftists who dominate our landscape…. I'm not whining about this..like I said, I am proud of being a Republican..moreso than of being an actor.
I talked with Jon Voight about this one day last October and all he could really tell me was "it's just the way it is, be proud, but walk softly." basically, let people know who i am..it may hurt in many ways, but if people don't make a stand, we all lose.
She was 13 for crying out loud. Only 13.
yeah let it happen to anyone that wants to free him or someones child, see if the song will change.
he pleaded guilty then ran, dumbass. give him an extra year for every day he had run free, his victim has been imprisoned for that time.
Where's Don Henley?
Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old girl. He raped a child against her will. Repeat: HE RAPED A CHILD. He needs to go to jail immediately. And as far as I 'm concerned ANYONE that signs Harvey Weinstein's petition in support of Polanski SUPPORTS a CHILD RAPIST, & by fiat, both supports and ENCOURAGES THE RAPE OF CHILDREN. I'll say it again: Every celeb- director, actor, writer, – that signs the petition was started by that fat fuck and notorious PERV Harvey Weinstein, SUPPORTS a RAPIST, and the rape of children.

And I yours. Good to see you, my friend.
I was a young woman back in the 70's. Hollywood, more than any other entity, made it so that rape laws CHANGED. Those changes led to laws about sexual harassment that again protected women whose bosses thought that women were in the workplace so that they had smorgasbord. Hollywood CHANGED things for women and made the world a safer place to be a woman. Hollywood let the world know that rape was about violence and power, that it wasn't about sex. And so NOW people like Whoopi Goldberg are taking all of that away. Why? Do we really want to go back to the days before rape-shield laws were in place? Do we really want to go back to a work environment where bosses put their hands on women's breasts, stuck their tongues in their ears, and it was somehow the woman's fault just because she showed up for work that day? How about sharia law? Does that sound good to the Hollywood elite?

Polanski's rewrite of Towne's draft of Chinatown may be the greatest rewrite in cinema history. Nothing can take that away from him.
But he raped a child. Polanski should spend the rest of his miserable life in jail for it.

Bless you DAN!!!! I always always remember one of your first segments on 48 HRS about abduction from a bedroom of one unfamous child, and the assault committed against her. She told her mother there was a boogey man, (or some kind of euphemism), when her mother found the 'specimen' in her bed sheets. Proof undeniable, but people tried to say the girl made it up. Your closing comment on the segment after exposing a man who was a trucker, who had done it thousands of times in the dead of night, was, to beleive the child, when they say they have been assaulted by the boogeyman!
I warned my kids growing up that anyone and anywhere was a place such a man could be. It's also true that ANY man can be the boogeyman, even a well known and talented man who has had a share of horrific life tragedy none of us wants to trade for.
But it does NOT and NEVER will allow for exceptions to to this kind of child abuse!!! Thank you Dan, thank you so very much.
Well said. I say it is PRECISELY because he is famous and yes that he was the sad man who lost his wife and child to the strangest cases in California crime that he must be punished. IF he is allowed to get a FREE pass, then others MUST too. There are NO exceptions when it comes to child abuse, to rape, to flaunting the system when you are revealed for exactly what you've done.
If YOU are terrified of retribution imagine the TERROR real women feel every day for themselves and for their children!!! You're a coward but I understand, it isn't you.
It's just me, and all the other "girl child"s in the world—it's a line from something I can't remember, but it is about how hard a "girl childs" life is cause we call know what people feel free to do to her with no thought of punishment, particularly the well connected, wealthy and powerful!!

The morons who blindly support Polanski need to realize that none of us, even non-celebrity criminals, are "all good" or "all bad" (despite the fact that most celebrities are surrounded by people constantly telling them how "great" and "brilliant" they are). People are complicated. One person can do great things AND horrible things. However, none of us are above the law. Every rapist sitting in prison has had some tough life circumstances to deal with at some point in their lives–most child molesters were, in fact, molested as children. Sad, yes. Does that excuse their crimes? Does Hollywood want to start a petition to support all of them? Polanski survived the Holocaust, his wife and unborn child were murdered, and he's directed some great films. He also drugged and raped a 13 year old girl whose own deranged mother handed her over to him. He should be in prison. Period. I hope he'll have a lot of big boy fans in prison.

Rape is never excuseable, no matter what "genius" the perpetrator may possess. Illegal flight from prosecution is also an offense that must be punished. I am appalled that anyone sees fit to defend this man when they know full well what he's done. Film festivals do not confer immunity. Rape is rape. No means no. 13-year-olds are children. There should be no question about this.

I am not a "Hollywood insider," and I am increasingly proud of that distinction. I'll treasure my exclusion from all the kowtowing to and excuse-making for predators. That petition defending Polanski is an absolute farce. Yeah, you're great directors/actors (in your estimation, since you didn't care to get signatures from non-famous people outside your circle), so we should take your "unbiased" opinion on legal matters pertaining to one of your cinema gods seriously.
Yay Michael! I say Screw it, too! It's time for us to not be afraid to be who we are… regardless of the stigma and blacklisting that Hollywood threatens. I believe GOD is bigger than any Hollywood bigwig and I'd rather have HIM on my side than anyone else!
Polanski is a fugitive of justice, a rapist, child-molester, etc…. just because he is some Hollywood bigwig does not mean he is above the Law. I am disgusted by those who think he should just go free because of his directorial talent and because his "error in judgment" was so long ago…. I wouldn't care if he was king of the world – he should be imprisoned for his crime.

These bunch of bozos are elitist, Hollywood is full of people who treat others poorly. It is supercilious and elitist to its core, as are most democrats! If only America could see behind the scenes of a Studio or TV show! Supporting a rapist is a noble cause to them, amazing isn't it.

The law is too big to fit into any one man's hands. Mr. Polanski had the same rights to legal appeal that any other convicted felon had, and if he had used them, his victim would have had her closure 30 years ago. He is directly responsible for her continued suffering, and disrupted life, and so while I have sympathy for what the press is doing to her (yet again) over this, I feel that the US cannot afford to set the precedent of sweeping this rape and flight from justice under the rug.

As a parent I am horrified that this discussion is even taking place. Fame is no excuse for rape. I hope this man is forced to face the consequences of his abominable actions.
Excellent insight! I agree.
My biggest disappointment when I read the list of names was Claude Lanzmann, the maker of the definitive Holocaust documentary, the nine-hour-long "Shoah." I imagine that Lanzmann's sympathy was aroused by Polanski's narrow escape from the Nazis as a child, and by Polanski's loss of family members in the concentration camps. Still, I am so disappointed that of all people who could be expected to sympathize with victims, Lanzmann does not side with the 13-year-old girl who was victimized. It makes me very sad.
I knew we could count on seeing you here Mr Baldwin! Knew you'd be on the right side of this. Thanks!
I'm just starting out. I'm a writer's assistant, production assistant, and a wannabe/hopeful TV writer. As a young woman newly entering the industry, I was horrified to see the number of people — people I respected and admired deeply — flocking to support a man who violated not only another woman, but a child. My faith in Hollywood is being restored by this petition, and I am delighted, although slightly afraid, to include my own name.

I love your show, Criminal Minds. I watch it whenever it is on, including the episodes that air on A&E. I will watch whatever you do from this point on. I am so thrilled to see that there are still moral people in Hollywood that are not afraid to take a stand. God bless you and keep up the good work.

I find it hard to understand why people who would condemn child rape in all other circumstances defend it when a celebrity is involved. Hello, it's still exactly the same crime.
In Prison. He will see what it feels like, to be the 13 year girl.

I like this the best looking woman in Hollywood
There's no excuse. He needs to face the consequences of the crime to which he pled guilty.
In response to a lot of the liberals-are-crap posts, many of my friends and I are liberals, and we totally support putting Polanski in jail for his admitted awful crime. Just because SOME people who are liberals choose to sign a "free Polanski" petition, doesn't mean ALL people who are liberals want to. In my opinion, it's a legal and moral issue. Rape is rape and no means no!

I would like to see the casting directors, producers and directors on this list make their own blacklist, and put everyone who signed the "Free the Child Rapist" petition on it. Some of you have actual power. Some of you can put the fear of retribution to those who actually deserve it. Please, use that power, and ruin the careers of Tilda Swinton and Natalie Portman and Harrison Ford, as much as you are able. Let THEM fear blacklisting and retribution. Send them emails informing them to not even bother auditioning for roles in movies you are casting, because you do not work with the supporters of child rape. Please, don't just sign petitions. Hold the rape-apologists responsible, and let them fear the retribution they so richly deserve!
Sorry for those saying that.. but in their defense…when the mouth pieces for the far left speak, it is generally a token of what the "rest" of the far left feels.
I didn't say those things.. but I apologize for the misconception for it being said.. it is not meant as "Democrats" but as the "Far Left".
Well said.
Rape is rape. Child rape is disgusting.
So sad, this is even a matter of debate. The litmus test: This is YOUR daughter we're talkin' about. NOW should he do time???

Writing the future of Hollywood: movies that include women, movies by women, movies for women. Yes, the other half of the world's population want entertainment too!
NO ONE is above the law, regardless of background, wealth, age, or talent. And there is no possible justification for rape, especially the rape of a child. This should not even be up for debate.

We can't escape the things we've done. He needs to be tried in a court of law.

I have been a therapist working with children who have been sexually abused for over 10 years and have been sickened by Hollywood's repsonse. You have given me hope that there are some decent people in your industry. You have no idea how the callous attitude of those who have decided to support Polanski continue to damage these children. God bless you sir.
Polansk on jail!
As someone who ardently opposes liberalism I have to agree with you Becky, not all left-wingers a scum of the Earth; just some of them.

Bring him back to the U.S., put him in prison, where he belongs, and have him share a cell with a very large man who happens to be the father of a 13 year old daughter.
I can't believe I find myself agreeing with Cokie Roberts, "take him out back and shoot him."
As for everyone who signed the "Free Polanski" petition, if you allege you are for Womens' rights, you're a first class hypocrite and if you're not for Womens' rights, why aren't you?

Doesn't matter how old he is or how much time has past.
He was living his life as he wanted the day after the rape-rape while his victim endured
a lifetime of emotional distress that we cannot even fathom. She was scarred for life
forced to move on even though justice was not served.
I truly want this guy is prison with the baddest of the bad to be the toy of bubba, tyrone, and the like.
I'd feel just a little bit better for her if roman truly experienced the pain and helplessness of being forced
into something like this.No wrist slaps, fines, counseling, and probation. That's gravy for him.He needs very hard prison time for the rest of his life while his victim's family receives 20% of his worth. Not to mention if I had my way I'd send his lawyers with him for defending this pos.
If anything in this world deserves justice it is when seniors and children are taken advantage of.
He deserves the same justice as every other rapist.

Child rape is a heinous crime, not an artistic privilege. Polanski belongs in prison.
