I fucking hate Whoopi Goldberg. I've loved her work, but after listening to her announce that the way the "world" sees 13 year old girls has something at all to do with the law, and try to sugar coat her ignorant blatherings by saying that she just wants everyone in the discussion to have all the facts (without discerning between RELEVANT and IRRELEVANT facts), I really want someone to take off her microphone, tell her she's fired, and kick her out of the studio.

Hi all. I'm not surprised by Goldbergs's remarks. Liberal Democratic women will always forget about their principles and beliefs(?) when a liberal man is under attack. They did this for Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal (and the other accusations of sexual harrassment) and they are doing this for Polanski. When you ply a 13 year old girl with wine and ludes then have sex with her even as she's saying no then that's rape except in the minds of liberal women such as Whoopi. It's a shame really that these women will not act to protect a children against both past and future sexual predators like Polanski.

I understand why the United States could not ignore and forget a high profile fugitive from justice like Roman Polanski. I understand why, barring any legal argument, he must be returned to the United States to stand before the court.
But I also understand that the Roman Polanski of 1977 was still in the midst of trauma and horror, and that for the last thirty years he became a different man who remarried, fathered children and never re-offended.
Polanski’s victim, Samantha Geimer, is now 45 years old and among those calling for mercy. She settled a lawsuit with Polanski and publicly forgave him over ten years ago.
Bring Roman Polanski back to the United States. Let him stand before the court and plead guilty to a crime he committed 32 years ago. Then open the door and let him walk free for the first time since that night on August 9, 1969 when in many ways, Roman Polanski’s life ended with that of his wife and his unborn son.

Statutory rape is still rape, based as it is on the fact that minors cannot possibly be consensual partners, given their inherent limitations. BTW, the French Code states that these punishments apply to a French citizen that commits such a crime overseas, but they live the resposibility up to the public prosecutor to press the case.
