“Rappers, dancers, writers and other activists from around the country were invited to a May 12 session next door to the White House where they were “challenged to come up with promising and attractive ideas about how artists can work to promote the administration’s agenda.”
“The White House convened a meeting of 60 artists to help push the president’s domestic agenda in May, months before a controversial conference call with artists in August led to the reassignment and, on Thursday, the resignation of the communications director of the National Endowment for the Arts.
“In what some critics are calling a “troubling” early effort by the Obama administration to politicize the NEA, rappers, dancers, writers and other activists from around the country were invited to a May 12 session next door to the White House, where they were “challenged to come up with promising and attractive ideas about how artists can work for the administration’s agenda,” according to a report written by organizers of the meeting.
“An NEA official in charge of grants for performing artists was in attendance, as was the organization’s former chief spokesman, Yosi Sergant, who was reassigned last month after he led a similar conference call with 75 artists and urged them to promote Obama’s policies. The NEA announced Thursday that he had resigned.
“One participant in the May 12 session “suggested the people in the room equaled a think tank to serve the administration’s aims and asked how in practical terms we could connect to the administration’s work,” the report says.
“Government watchdogs said the meeting at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building was a problematic and partisan use of the NEA, which is supposed to be politically neutral.
“”They didn’t violate a law but it doesn’t seem like a good idea,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. “It seems like they’re overly politicizing the NEA, and it seems inappropriate.”
“Sloan said it was “troubling” that the government-funded NEA was suggesting to artists who rely on it for aid that they make a push for the administration.”

Actually, what is coming out is some pretty stupid stuff that was done stupidly. Done by relative amateurs. There are some real old pros involved who have been pushing this stuff for several decades, still not revealed.
More investigating, less celebrating. We must not stop until we discover everything.
The pieces have been assembled in the dark. The light is shining and darkness cannot hide the light. There is no regard for the letter of the law in this administration. None. They taunt the law. He seems to have heard of ACORN, somewhere in the dim past; he thinks that yes, there is a government agency called the National Endowment for the Arts. Beyond that, though, he's lost. He had no idea that both were strongarm leftist entities who demand obeisance, rather than gently, in the politically liberal way, suggest ways to improve. What a heart this guy has!

Community organizing is not "art" by any means, neither is Public Relations, or "Activist".
As to your "starry eyes artists" comment, I don't think many real artists have "starry eyes".
When funding for the "arts" is mostly being hi-jacked by "community organizers", "activists", political groups, etc…. real artists are out here in the real world actually creating art, and making an honest living doing so, without stars in our eyes. We pay mortgages, and utility bills just like you do.

This maligant tumor residing in the White house has a potentially unlimited growth in his maligancy, and is spreading from state to state systemically metastasizing, and can destroy our society if we don't surgically remove him, not by bullets, but by ballots. While it is still an option we must utilize the secret vote and remove this cancer from our communites.
Under Obama the United states is metamorphosing from a world power to a global unsettled, irresponsible, and disreputable tramp. Under Obama our heart is capricious and wary, and our head is red. Obama is weak in the face of tyranny, and is pampering the Muslim world, and he is withdrawing from our friends and allies.
Obama's foreign policy is deserting our friends and courting our enemies. Its a procedure of entrapment, and one that will end in ruin. Under Obama America will before long find itself entirely friendless—quarantined in a menacing world impaired on hatred for America.
Trust and change—yea right—-physical suffering and scarcity is more like it—everyone under Obama will become identical—-Obama will bring the land of our birth to the ghetto.
