ANOTHER White House/Artist Meeting?: ‘Department of Alternative Thinking’ Proposed
by Big HollywoodKerry Picket at the Washington Times reports today:
The Obama administration apparently met with 60 artists and creative organizers as early as May 12 according to an online document (downloadable)by the Pratt Center for Community Development, State Voices, Arlene Goldbard, and the Nathan Cummings Foundation. Other artists(link1 link 2)have corroborated this meeting happened. (h/t machogirl from FR)
Here are the bullet points from an online document called a “White House Briefing” report, though that has not yet been confirmed:
On May 12th, more than 60 artists and creative organizers engaged in civic participation, community development, education, social justice activism, and philanthropy came together for a White House briefing on Art, Community, Social Justice, National Recovery. …
Each of the sponsors of this meeting had been in contact with Yosi Sergant who was then an Associate with the White House Office of Public Liaison (and is now Communications Director of the National Endowment for the Arts.) Once we understood that a larger meeting would enable us to access more advisors and policymakers, it made sense to combine forces and invitation lists.
Then it gets creepy:
This group was inspired to further develop an idea that struck them during the briefing: the establishment of a new “Department of Alternative Thinking.” The DoAT would be a volunteer brain trust/think tank made up of the country’s most creative and maverick minds (thinkers, artists, innovators, and inventors). It would be set up as a free, public service to the White House and other government departments. The purpose of the DoAT is to integrate creative brain consultation (sideways thinking) into every aspect of governmental decision-making (whether it is the arts, the economy, healthcare, energy and environmental policy, international policy, national security, infrastructure, NASA, education, etc).
If this story proves true — and this document and two sources say that it is — this is meeting/conference call #4 betwen artists and the White House.
How many more do we not yet know about?
You can read the full story here. The Washington Times also has a list of participants.

Hope and Change boys and girls, Hope and Change!

I wonder what all those fools that voted for this khaffir are thinking now?
Why doesn't anyone pick up on this?
This is totally ridiculous…..
There can be no doubt that the overwhelming ambition of this current occupier of the White House is to be Supreme Dictator.
Fortunately a pesky little paper written a couple hundred years ago by some very wise men to thwart another individual with dictatorial desires is our bulwark against this slime administration's efforts.
At some point very soon, Obama and his bunch are going to overreach, and then there will be TRUE CHANGE, and the hope that goes with it.
Dept of Alternative Thinking? I nominate Janeane Garafalo for czar. She can then tell America about her Limbic Brain Syndrome theory.
God, this administration reminds me of every reason that I left the corporate world. I laugh at you Team Obama!
You think a filmmaker like myself with conservative values has a shot at making films with a different point of view, just to keep it fair and balanced? I just want to work with the cool ''cats" who are 'in' right now with the Big Kahuna!
After are we going to sit this one out and can't get some of that taxpayer's money to create our conservative expressionism!

I'm sorry but in the era of Alternative Thinking, alternative views need not apply.
Department of Alternative Thinking – Helping serve the Kool aid to the mindless sheeple .
Creepy and sickening.
Dept of Alternative Thinking, brought to you by the most lockstep, dogmatic, ideological, intolerant party the country has ever known. I can't wait to hear all the great 'maverick' ideas they come up with that are constrained by sacrosanct democrat orthodoxy; Global warming, a womans right to kill her baby, homosexuality and state funded welfare. Doesn't seem they have much wiggle-room left.
Glenn Beck is correct, there is rampet corruption in Washington. If Congress dosent get going on all this soon I think we need to call for recall votes on the Congressmen and Senators.
NEA = THOUGHT POLICE
They're so arrogant they aren't even hiding it! Yosi:
“Attach whatever you’re doing to this initiative. Let’s raise the visibility for the Presidents call”
“We are just now learning how to really bring this community together to speak with the government.”
George Will: “Wrong preposition. Not ‘with’ the government, but FOR the government.” http://www.graffiti.org/faq/kataras/kataras_fig3F...
bcoz they don't want anybody to know. I think the only people convinced that obama is not good for the usa are conservatives. Otherwise, we still did not make a dent. I still hear comments that the cia "torture methods were illegals. When I point out that these methods include second hand smoking, the reply is: that's right, that's illegal One of the person I asked even wonders how come we didn't come up with a truth serum- such as those we see so often in our dear hollywood movies. AAAAAHHHH, but here we are again with Hollywood suggestions: collectivism- see BEP, truth serum- see California's governor, etc
Janeane Garafalo does not stimulate my limbic. She leaves my limbic limp.
Proving once again that alternative thinking is just fine with the Obamatrons, as long as it agrees with what they think. It's almost tiring dropping the name "Orwell" all the time but darn it, how else are you going to describe it?
The Department of Alternative Thinking Department.
This whole thing took place on government time and property? Terrific. I am not just going to be brainwashed – I'm going to have to PAY for it!
Unfortunately, there is no recall provision for federal congress.
http://lugar.senate.gov/services/pdf_crs/Recall_o...
It is right down the hall from the "Department of Redundancy Department", next to the unstaffeds "Ethics Department."
This stuff just keeps getting scarier and scarier!
Thought control? Idea policing?
Control the language and you control the thinking…
How does this stuff get stopped?
The thought police are here…welcome to the land of hope and change.
At least with sites and reports like this to warn us, we can see 'em coming and prep for the fight. The Liberal Inquisition is fooling fewer and fewer Americans with each passing day. "EVERYBODY EXPECTS…THE LIBERAL INQUISITION!" at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/...
Bring 'em on!
Hey, Obama, how is this for alternate thinking…..Pttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Sorry everyone, but the more I know the madder I get. I cant believe this country elected this communist.
just dang, too bad they get to do that themselves….maybe with enough pressure we can get rid of a few.
52% of the voters should be publicly flogged.
I will help flogg.
This is all Soviet era art with obama's portrait. If public schools taught history this would be recognized as the propaganda that it is. "It can't happen here." Well it has. There needs to be an all out legal assault on this administration at every level, challenge every decision in court and force the courts to uphold their constitutional duty to enforce our laws in the face of this usurper.
The fact that this type of art can come from the encouraging of the White House is obscene. I detest this fraud that's been foisted on this nation by the smear merchants and propagandists in the media and academia.
Alternative thinking is what Obama does when his teleprompter is turned off…"ah, ah, ya know, ah, like, ah, ah, ya know"!
More on the Department of Alternative thinking:
Duffy Culligan and Aaron Rose, of the Directors Bureau, attended the WH briefing on Art, Community, Social Justice, National Recovery. Also attending was Kim Hastreiter – Editor, Publisher and Co-founder of the Paper Publishing Company, which prints Paper Magazine.

"Recently, TDB’s own Duffy Culligan and Aaron Rose were invited to to the White House to participate in a discussion with other artists concerning cultural activism and its role in the Obama Administration. Writer Kim Hastreiter also attended and she summarized the experience in an article for this month's issue of Paper Magazine, featuring an illustration by Duffy."

Kim Hastreiter writes:

"I kept thinking about how after September 11th, every artist I knew agreed that the horror we had witnessed was actually a major piece of performance art that could not possibly have been conceived by a lawyer or a politician, but more likely by a jihadist with a wild imagination and an artist's mind."
"What many people also don't realize is that within two weeks of the attacks, the Department of Defense actually brought together a large group of American artists and progressive thinkers (including someone I know) to consult in a series of top-secret meetings, at which they were asked to imagine how this (super-creative) enemy of ours might attack us next. "
"Five of us — myself, Aaron, Duffy, Anne Pasternak (Creative Time), Jonathan Wells (Flux/RESFEST) and Liz Manne (Work in Progress) — decided to develop the idea of establishing a Department of Alternative Thinking:"
…more in the article.
This is just unreal, and it is getting almost ZERO coverage on the so called Media. BO did promise a total transformation… and this is unreal! He is surely trying his little heart out! to change it all before the wool is pulled back.. but some people will always be blind…
Yeah, somebody play some Pink Floyd
I've seen a few pieces of "art" that use a similar pattern in the background. Is it just me or doesn't that background remind you of the "puzzle box" from the movie Hellraiser?

If you haven't already, you should read the full text of the White House Briefing Report. There are many tidbits that are of interest. The Department of Alternate Thinking (does this remind anyone else of Monty Python?) is to be set up like the reserves, in that you "volunteer" for a set amount of time to come to Washington as a leader. Also interesting was that part of the job was to find a way to get the NEA into the stimulus bill. There also is something interesting about finding ways to satirize the "Luntz memo/Republican Talking Points." …wondering what the Luntz memo is….still more to read….need to make some more popcorn…
This administration reminds of a spoiled little brat that swiped their parents credit card…then goes on a spending spree at the mall…
If anyone wants to research the participants further, here's some handy search links for each one. Just something to make some basic checks simpler:

Perhaps the caption on the picture at the top should be "OBEY". Or, "SUBMIT"
Interesting details on page 13 in section on healthcare. 1. The contact is a member of SEIU. 2. Artists are specifically encouraged to counter the talking points of Republicans. I think this document is actually more damaging than the tapes; it is clearly political in nature, the meeting was hosted by the White House, and it includes not only artists but trade unions. The document contains email addresses and names that would be very useful to investigate. Now if we could just find some "journalists" to do the job…
There is no alternative thinking in this administration (O-ba-ma! O-ba-ma! O-ba-ma!).
Department of Alternative Thinking, i.e., new ways to bamboozle the public.
ELECTORAL SUCCESS TO DATE
Since its founding in 1992, the New Party chapters have backed roughly 300 candidates – and more than 200 have won their races. Roughly half of our candidates are women; more than a third are people of color.
The Record
Illinois: Danny Davis (U.S. House of Representatives, 1996, 1998), Miguel Del Valle (Illinois State Senate, 1998), Willie Delgado (Illinois State Legislature, 1998), Barack Obama (State Legislature, 1996), Michael Chandler (Chicago City Council , 1995), , Patricia Martin (Cook County Judge, 1996).
This was just Illinois
Apparently, YOU HAVE EYES

And you wonder why Obama admires Chavez and other dictators. Look at his actions in Honduras, the Obama administration opposes their constitution and sides with the guy trying to be a dictator there. Obama seems to be very consitent in siding with radicals around the world and not with people searching freedom. What a 180 from the history of this nation. This is not the Hope and Change we voted for… we've been duped….
Obama wants to look "Mavericky" apparently…you betcha!

The terms "Department of" and "Thinking" do not belong in the same sentence unless it's an Orwell novel. Which we're living, right now. Apparently, we artists will be the first recruits for the Thought Police. Fabulous.

Artists?
I find it odd (and offensive) that the Washington Times calls this group "60 artists". Looking at the list I see few "artists", and a whole lot of community organizers, PR and agent-types, spouses of artists, and a whole lot of those types that orbit around real artists trying to figure out a way to exploit and market other peoples artworks to line their own pockets.
The common denominator among all of the people listed as so-called "artists" is grant funds, and minority entitlement program funds.
Most of these people don't actually create any art, they spend most of their time chasing after grant funds.
Sorry, I don't call that "art".
And I don't call most of the people who attended that meeting "artists".
Of the few actual "artists" in attendance, I am familiar with their work, and I have to admit, I wasn't impressed.
Activist "art" promoting an agenda is trite. As "art" it historically is never stands the test of time.
And, come on, some of these people are as far from "art" as one can get:
"Founding Executive Director, Voto Latino", has nothing to do with "art", and everything to do with grant money used for political purposes.
Shame on the Washington Times for trying to pass these shills and grant-hos off as "artists", you give real artists a bad name.
