Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

It takes a village to raise a racist.
when someone does not have sound facts to further their cause they resort to this nonsence to divert the attention away from their failings. I, myself, can say I do not have a prejudiced bone in my body but would have to defend myself if accused of racism. Sad that people use this tool to fix what they, themselves, have broken.
"And if you covered him with garbage, George Sanders would still have style…"
Top five George Sanders films:
1) All About Eve (1950)
2) Rebecca (1940)
3) The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)
4) A Shot in the Dark (1964)
5) The Jungle Book (1967)
(Also – "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" opens today – acknowledged with a food centric quiz for the day at

George Sanders is one of those actors who, once I started watching a lot of older films, seemed to appear in all of them! All About Eve, Foreign Correspondent, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir…
Sadly, according to the IMDb, he committed suicide:
-Sanders told David Niven in 1937, that he intended to commit suicide when he got older. In 1972, he fulfilled his promise, leaving this note: "Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck.".-
Remember when smoking was considered sophisticated?
The Pelosi was weeping yesterday about the ugly discourse in the healthcare debate. I thought protesting was the highest form of patriotism?
Shere Khan! The best voice casting ever.
Is there in Hollywood (does Javier Berdem count?) with the command of the Art of Verbal Tone Sanders channeled?
That troupe of Actors (and Actresses, esp.) who mastered the Art of Gesture in the Silents, and then carried it into Talkies… is there anyone who fits the category of a Garbo?
(Seriously…)
BuckwheatPicard: "Is this new to everyone? no. Is it new to me? Somewhat. I knew it would happen I just never understood why. I didn't fully accept that people would actually not try to bring you around, but to shut you down."
Admitting my political bias first…..'Shutting the opposition down' through ANY means possible is a long-term Democrat activist strategy. Democrats started going after Bush within mere weeks of 9/11, which is fine in a general political sense, but not when the cowards who voted For Iraq involvement continually plant the seeds that Bush lied, And I remember when Obama started to show cracks in his media-construct pre-Nov 08, the race card came out again——>IF Obama lost it would be a result of racists refusing to vote for him. The same crapola is being applied now———> opposition to Obama's socialism must be racist. Another article I read, which pretended to be "analisys", mentioned the "confusion on the right as to what ObamaCare really meant".
Democrats divide and conquer. Republicans try to appeal to the 'homegenous mainstream'. There are exceptions of course. I'm talking generalites here, which are useful when trying to sift through the hubris. Did Harry Reid ever send a note to Obama reminding him that the war in Iraq was lost? How long does it take for Obama to start taking the 'credit' for His failures, or is Bush a co-partner, responsible to the end, while Obama struts around untouched?
I think the accusations of racism are only going to get worse as busy working folks finally figure out the messiah and his comrades.
When equal opportunity fails to result in equal outcomes, progressives need unlimited power to insure that ambition, talent and hard work are injustices. Elite liberals are exempted of course. Convince enough people that they are inherently racist and they will happily tithe freedom and wealth to the religion of statism.
that was a good moment on Fringe.
Bones was not that great, I think Cyndi Lauper screwed it up for me. I always thought her voices was an affectation, Maybe not.

Sanders was a great character actor. I once found a used copy of his autobiography "The Autobiography of A Cad" at a used book sale. Sadly, it turned out he was really a gentleman and not a cad, because he didn't dish any dirt on his fellow thespians, so it was kind of dull. I sold it later on ebay where it went for more than $50, which goes to show he still has a lot of fans.
As a former amateur actress, I am so glad to see you use that term instead of the PC silly generic "actor" for both sexes. There's nothing wrong with being female.
I would argue that the new racist are the ones shouting "Racist" the loudest.
Quit living in 2008 Stan, protesting is sooo….last year.

in a way it reminds me of the kid who just discovered a new cuss word, and uses it every chance he gets.
is this your first product with them?
I have wondered if seting up a cafepress account is worth the effort
I live in Australia, and if we still have this shit to go through in a couple of years then I might just have to shoot myself before a russian orthodox aborigine becomes pres of Australia.
Since someone else already mentioned the Speaker, I thought I would share a letter I sent her yesterday. The hypocrisy of the woman is unbelievable. To think she is two heartbeats away from being President…….
Madam Speaker;
Thank you so much for your comments today on the tenor of debate in our country today. It is so refreshing to hear a politician stand up and admit how terribly wrong he/she was in branding those who disagree with him/her as Nazis. Somehow that portion of your remarks where you accepted personal responsibility for the degredation of discourse did not make it onto the televised reports I saw, but I am certain it was there. It is comforting to know that you accept full responsibility for what you yourself set in motion and are working to rectify that error.
I am also heartened by your decrying the violence which might result. What with SEIU thugs hospitalizing a man here in St. Louis because he committed the crime of disagreeing with them, and a health care reform activist biting the finger off someone who actually wanted to IMPROVE the system, things are already pretty hot. The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if some wacko Democratic party activist smashed the windows of party headquarters, and the State Party Chairperson blamed it on Republicans. Oh, wait that already happened, never mind. But if not checked soon, some person who actually WORKS for their money might have to defend themselves and then the deadbeats you hold so dear might be injured. Better put and end to it now.
Thank you for the time it took one of your staff to read this e-mail. For the amount you appropriate from my family it was the least you could do. And I honestly believe that when it comes to real Americans, you will always do the least you can do.
I've got that amnesty for Legal immigrants sticker in there too. I made that one years ago when people were still talking about McCain. It's very minimal effort involved in creating the store, and you can make some spare scratch if people buy your stuff. The only painful part is the mandatory self-promotion.
BIG … BIG SMILES
Absolutely brilliant letter! Probably wasted on its intended audience, but brilliant nonetheless.
George Sanders as Addison DeWitt in All About Eve–one of my favorite all-time performances. I recently saw him too in Rebecca–had forgotten him in that role. And of course the voice of Shere Khan as Lost My Cookies mentioned here was terrific voice casting.
It is Stan, IF you're a democrat that is. She's such a phony hag. Someone at one of the news sites about this said "those can't be real tears because water would melt this witch".
I liked it, a LOT.
"And I honestly believe that when it comes to real Americans, you will always do the least you can do".
lol..The truth hurts and they can't handle the truth.
when my daughter was in 4th grade her teacher was a German immigrant. His story (one of them) is when he was in 4th grade and could barely speak english, one of the bullying crowd called him a 'pansy'. Having no idea what a pansy was he went home and asked his mother. Mother told him a Pansy is a beautiful flower jut like he is. So, the next day walks up to the bully and says 'now I know what a 'pansy' is'. The bully get in his face and says 'yeah What is it then?' The teacher to be replies. "A pansy is beautiful flower. I am a beautiful flower. You are a beautiful flower. We are ALL pansies.'
I would just like to say that anyone who sneezes wrong is a RACIST.
That would come under Aesop's
Takes one to know one
Just throwing this out here on the open thread. I am dying to go to a movie this weekend. I can't stand Matt Damon but the Informant looks like an entertaining movie. What are the reviews, and does Matt get to inject his liberal views into it?
I really just want to see a movie and not be insulted. I already scratched Julie and Julia off the list. The last movie I went to was in January to see Marley and Me. A real tear jerker, and managed to run 2 hours without throwing people like me under the bus.
I am usually just a "lurker" here but would appreciate any advice.
Do you known that Oskar Schindler was described by author Thomas Keneally in his novel <i.>Schindler's List as being a combination of George Sanders and Curd Jürgens.
BTW – Steven Spielberg also asked Liam Neeson to use Time Warner CEO Steve Ross as a model for Neeson's portrayal of Schindler .
In any case, Sanders was a great actor.
This will brighten your day.

I guess he's not as smart as he thinks he is.
It has basically become the same thing as saying that person likes cantalope. Are we supposed to still get excited?

Body of mainstream media discovered in alley, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/search/label/...
What if Obama appeared on all the Sunday morning news programs (except FOX news) and nobody watched him, would he still make a sound?
Scott, I believe having been married to two of the Gabor sisters, at separate times of course!, may have been a contributing factor in his decision to commit suicide. hehehehe.
A wonderful man whom it was always a pleasure to watch and, I believe, an even greater pleasure to listen to.
this is something i have been back and forth on for years, so i decided to put it down on electrons yesterday.

i think my solution is more common sense.
LOL! Absolutely!

I'm waiting for the next ACORN video like it's the newest reality show. Can't wait!
There's a rather old racist been hustling race for forty years. An old racist who danced on the grave of Martin Luther King, knowing he could now assume the mantle of "civil rights" leader. His name is Jesse Jackson. Best recruiting tool the KKK ever had, because he is one of them in blackface. Oh, and house slave for the Democrat Plantation…
George Sanders… suave, sophisticated… I liked him as the Saint, also. He is one of my Tivo's auto records.
That would depend on if he had burritos for breakfast or not. It would be the same sound, only comming out the other end.
This is not good for me. Fringe and The Office on at the same time, and I can't do TiVo. I don't know what to do here.
I believe you can watch both shows online the next day, either on their respective networks' websites or hulu.com.
They reviewd the informant elsewhere on this site, within the last hour or so. The review says it's politics-free, so it should be safe to watch.
He'd probably make a lot of them. The better question: Viewers or not, can Obama make a point?
Love George Sanders especially in Picture of Dorian Gray; All About Eve. He was also in the Village of the Damned. Don't forget he was in several movies as The Saint and The Falconer.
How many of these have you sold? What sort of reaction do you get when you wear it? Do you seek to open dialogue? Or just to piss people off? While I understand–to a point–the glee with which many here now proudly call themselves 'racist' (kind of like gays reclaiming 'queer' as a positive, not a negative) I have to say, as a black person who has never bandied the word around lightly, I'd be really appalled to see someone wearing one of those shirts. I just don't think it's something to be proud of, even in an 'ironic' sense.
To add some perspective to my 'degree of outrage' meter: a few years ago when Imus made his "nappy headed ho" comment, a store here in L.A. sold shirts with the slogan accompanied by a graphic based on the female restroom symbol. I actually thought it was kind of funny and the Imus fury was overblown, and while I'd never have worn the shirt (my grandmothers would surely have risen from their graves and smote me), I could see the humor in it and didn't take offense. I can't say the same about your shirts, but I'll defend to the death your right to sell them.
One of my Sanders favorite roles was as "The Saran" in "Samson and Delilah," also one of my favorite Bible epics. "Solomon and Sheba" wasn't nearly as entertaining, but Sanders could always wear a mean breastplate.
In case anyone is interested:
Obama has acted to have the U.S. rejoin the UN's Human Rights Commission… the group we walked out on when they refused to call the crisis in Darfur Genocide. Thank you Mona Charen… the only one that seems to want to report this atrocity: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZTFlNGRjMDdi...
Obama's Harem:.Just saw a lovely piece on CNN in which they talked about 16(I think that's correct) advisers to the Prez who are women but not just women but black women. No orientals,No hispanics,No caucasian,No eskimos,No native american.Just black woman, but of course that is not rasist because the Prez is a person of color.Imagine if G.W. would have so blatantly done such a thing.CNN would have had a decidedly different take on that story.I feel bad about saying "Harem"( suggesting his Moslem heritage ) just to get peoples attention but since I am white and since I do oppose the Prez I feel it is only right that I at least make an attempt to embrace this racist label that I am now saddled with.
oo oo let me be the first!: *ahem* RACIST!!!!!
Honestly, none have sold and I don't expect any of them to march off the shelves. I don't even own one myself.
My intention, as an psuedo-artist/graphic designer: Draw parallels with the black adoption of the former epithet n_____, as well as mock the pervaidng syllogism among liberals that "All Republicans are racist. You are a republican [the (R)]. Therefore, you are racist." By proudly proclaiming their insult as a badge of honor, it removes the effect of their argument."
The danger of this shirt is in inverse proportion to the number of people who wear it.
From current issue of Reason magazine, short interview with Lawrence W. Reed.
"Free people are not economically equal, and economically equal people are not free. Freedom will generate differences in income, because we're different one person to another."
Then pay attention and you'll learn how to defeat it.
I thought they already did under interstate commerce clause. Any navigable waters in America are under the jurisdiction of Army Corp of Engineers.
Every so often you see comical stories where the Engineers try to "expand" the definition of navigable. Last time I heard it was a drainage ditch on the side of a road.
I get your intent–Lenny Bruce tried to do this same thing with epithets 40-odd years ago in his standup act. But some words can't/shouldn't be stripped of their power by constant repetition. I sincerely hope 'racism' is one of them, and hopefully your sales reflect the fact that most people recognize its' innate offensiveness, no matter how overused in certain quarters. While the n-word remains irritatingly common among some in the black community, most of us don't use it _ever_ and really get furious when it's used 'proudly' by young idiots. (i.e. rapper Nas in his "n" t-shirt at an awards show last year) Trust me, if anyone were to call me that word–regardless of their race–I would be Most. Irate. Good luck with your design career–but not with this shirt. ;-D
Foreign Correspondent is one of my favorite movies ever. It is so very, very good. Of course, Alfred Hitchcock directed and with stars like Joel McCrea and the wonderful George Sanders, it's about perfect. Catch it every chance I get…always.
As soon as the next half-baked idea pops into my head, it'll be gone. The last time I paid attention, cafepress only lets a person have one logo per unique item, i.e., while I have stickers with one logo and shirts with another, I can't have a choice of logos on shirts without opening multiple stores.
They may have fixed it, but I'm too lazy to investigate.
A few weeks ago one of the writers here made an argument that the term racist shouldn't be offensive anymore. I was one who commented that it is pne of the worst accusation one could make against another.
But with all the wolf crying over the past few weeks, I have begun to inderstand it better.
It is a strawman: if you can blame the faceless "they" as being against you not for your ideas but for something else, it makes your accusers evil.
It is acid in the face meant to end what might be uncomfortable criticism.
Is this new to everyone? no. Is it new to me? Somewhat. I knew it would happen I just never understood why.
I didn't fully accept that people would actually not try to bring you around, but to shut you down.
so My new take/
I'm a racist, you're a racist, he's a racist, she's aracist, wouldn't you like to be a racist too?
The term, to the detriment of all, has lost it's meaning. That of course is the problem with crying wolf. After a certain point, no one will believe you anymore.
witness the death of my benefit of the doubt giving, and the birth of my cynicism
or an arroyo in New Mexico that has water in it for about 3 hours a year.
Another favorite (or should I say favourite?).
Since watching TCM, I can definitely see the contrast between American made movies versus British. I'm not talking about story lines, just things like opening and closing credits, music, sets, style; British movies seem to have an overall more serious tone regarding those effects. There's nothing wrong with that as I love the old British movies too (wish there were more on TCM), but you sure do see the difference between American and British cinema.
Last night's Fringe seemed to have, intentionally or not, a little Barbara Boxer moment (but in reverse). Broyles has to answer for their group's activities and a senator refers to him as Mr. Broyles. Broyles quickly corrects him: "That's Colonel Broyles! Or Special Agent Broyles." (or words to that effect – I'm doing it from memory)
All in all, a good episode that (par for the course) raises more questions than it answers.
(Last night's The Office was very good too. Funny stuff.)

In last Sunday's Parade Magazine, Brown said that he asked his minister why the Bible said the earth was created in seven days, but his science books said it started wtih the Big Bang and took billions of years. The minister, according to Brown, said, "Nice boys don't ask questions like that." And that turned him into an atheist. I call BS on that entire story. Or, if it's true, Brown is an idiot to make a fundamental change in his worldview based on advice from the most incompetent minister on earth.
Ah yes, Yes!! Racism is it – we must all bless Jimmah Cartah for his wisdom; yes, yea verily if Obama was white we would all support socialism, abortion, 10t debt et al. Jimmah, if its all racism, why did we vote you out as you are not black???
George Sanders was just one hellava actor. Nobody could do suave, sophistacated and slightly bored like Mr. Sanders. On the other hand he was a real trooper who could tackle mundane material and give it something special. Even though "The Saint" was a series of low-budget programmers Sanders made them interesting and watchable. Easily the best "cad" in the history of motion pictures. The sort of actor they really don't make anymore.
A voice soft and comfortable like silk and old scotch, until the threatening sneer reveals the steel beneath.
My fine post about George Sanders in THE LAST VOYAGE seem to have vanished.
Why write something if it is going to get sucked under by someone or something?
Intense Debate sucks – Google it.
Amen to that! Even in the B-grade 'The Falcon' series, Sanders' class always shone through.
Love George Sanders.
As for the (R)acists… you're a flowerpot!
