Conservatives often talk about what they don’t like about Hollywood. That’s okay, but it’s not productive. Maybe it’s time we talked about what we do like? More to the point, let’s point out when Hollywood has gotten it right. And that brings me to the...

I am a member of the Party of Hell No!
No Obamacare — no matter what it is labeled.
1. To borrow the tagline from Alien vs. Predator: "Whoever wins… We lose."
2. I agree. I thought it was a perfectly entertaining film but not exactly Oscar-worthy. I know everyone enjoys that little underdog movie that comes out of nowhere and hits it big but I think this, like Juno (which I also enjoyed), was a case of Fox Searchlight trying too hard.
I can't say I'm a fan of Mondays myself.

I don't know. Some friends tell me it's a great movie but I haven't gotten around to that one yet.
I like Mondays now that football is back! Go PACK!!!!!
Now that was a “Tea Party” this weekend 9/12, well done America, give’em hel!.
From the 1941 pop tune – "Watch the Birdie"
We're looking for a tall dark handsome man
With eyes of blue and a golden tan
Strong white teeth like Joel McCrea
Hey you, get out of the way!
Watch the birdie, we'll take a camera candid shot
Watch the birdie, come on and give it all you've got
Watch the birdie, just look around and pick a spot
And hold it!
Mondays mean "24"!
Come onnnnnn, January!
About the photograph for today's thread…
Joel McCrea was one of the best, most under-rated lead actors of the 1930s and 1940s. He was a favorite of Preston Sturges, and he was most memorable in the great Sullivan's Travels. Beginning after the war, he devoted his attention to making Westerns, culminating in the wonderful Ride the High Country,
McCrea was a modest, soft-spoken man who listed his occupation as "rancher" and he was married for nearly sixty years to one of the authentic beauties, Frances Dee.

Joel McCrea? I thought it was William Lundigan.
1-Are we talking dominant hand or non-dominant hand? Or dual-wielding? If the latter two, I give it to Kate. She has more experience juggling. If it's dominant hand, I give it to octo-mom. She looks shady, and probably has some knife fight experience.
2-Haven't seen that one, but I put Sideways in the same boat. I think it got some big awards, and it wasn't even all that entertaining. Just a bunch of dislikeable characters doing dislikeable things.
How about that Kanye? Real class act there, standing up for what he believes.
I saw this line on my friend's Facebook page:
"If you want a vision of the future, imagine Kanye stealing the microphone… forever" – George Orwell
It seem NYTIMES columnist Dowd stole the microphone also.Congressman Joe Wilson teams up with NYT columnist Maureen Dowd for a unique ventriloquist dummy act. http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/

Does MSM believe that if you don't cover a protest, then it didn't happen?
Nice finish there. Brett who??
Baseball history was made.

Oh, I don't know, Mondays take on a different veneer when the school year starts!
Andrew. I think someone should just go ahead and tackle the subject of race and conservatism on one of your blogs. There is a concerted effort underway by many "trolls" on conservative sites to make everything into a race thing. The MSM is coming out with guns ablaze. It will only get worse. It will only get more "in your face."
I think it's about time the conservative side comes out with a definitive rebuttal on this whole sordid affair or things will get out of hand. My two cents worth anyway.
Apparently there were 10,000+ people in Fort Worth on Saturday for the Tea Party… I didn't even know there was going to be one (shows how much I am paying attention)…
I wonder how Obama loved his National Day of Service? Oh wait, that's right we gave respect to those that lost their lives on that day and waited until the day after..
But I agree, give'em all hell… one that they will remember for a long time.
I guess it's kinda like "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
Question. If a quarter of a million people show up to WashingtonD.C. to show their disapproval of our current expando government (Democrat and Republican alike) and the mainstream media isn't there to cover it
id It Really Happen? "La La La La La .I can't hear you" " La La La La La.I can't see you"
He is such a moron and a racist… This isn't the first time the idiot tried to steal the spotlight because he didn't like the outcome… :/
on #1, that is much more thought than I had ever put in. Well done.
I just wonder if one of them will pull a fake dominant ala Princess Bride
Seen in a window in my office building:

We'll never forget you, Brent!
if a tree falls in the forest and hits a mime, does anyone care?
i think that is closer. It is republicans protesting and they didn't even start any fires. So it can't be a real protest.
Maybe next time we can bring out the pitchforks and torches…. it would be easier to start fires…
Continued arrogance… While the Acorn story is vastly ignored, the tools in the trade, the MSM continues to go after Joe Wilson. This is a tried and true tactic of radicals. And time and again – its working. This reminds of me of the classic Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. Smith cannot get the truth out, because the powermonsters own the media and spin lies to besmirch and nuetralize. Capra's movie, made in 1939, still holds relevence. It's proof that the more we appear to move forward, the more we continue to be the same. Systemic character flaws.
Bill Maher is such an insect. A stone cockroach. When someone finally steps on him, he will make a very loud CURRRRRUUUUCHHH.

Ha!! The two teams meet @ MN on 10/5, should be a much ballyhooed event!
Unless they somehow manage to kill each other, in which case we all win.
The VMAs: yet another reason to hate Kanye West (and, incidentally, love Taylor Swift, who in my opinion is not a great singer but constantly shows herself to be a very sweet and classy young lady). I didn't even know about it until afterwards–the only bit of the show I saw was when Lady GaGa did her "Papparazzi" song or whatever it was and then I was done. Disturbing on so many levels…
For that matter, if the MSM finally falls down and no one is listening anymore, does it make a sound?
It doesn't really matter who writes or says what to whom, it's not going to stop in my life time, and I'd be willing to wager it false charges of racism ever do stop, it will only be because the left has found a new attack that works even better.
The left's political ideology isn't based on reason, logic or facts, its based entirely on emotion. There fore they can't respond to debate using facts, logic and reason. The only response they have is emotion. And they use that to specifically avoid a debate on issues altogether. Hence, insults. The left's current definition of a racist is anyone who doesn't agree with them. If you don't agree with them, you are a racist. And a racist is not even worthy to debate them.
This is their primary mode of attack, so they will not stop using it. It's all they have.
Joel McCrea is the most under-rated, under-appreciated leading man of Hollywood's golden age, IMHO. If you've seen "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" but not "Sullivan's Travels" there is something wrong with you.
Those are both terrific movies. I also like Foreign Correspondent and The Palm Beach Story.
It shows 3 replies, but I only see 1 reply.
huh?
He's an irrelevant @sshat.

Repulsive photos.
Way to go, short, ugly squat dude. Does it taste better right from the bottle?
If it had been some country dude up there getting the award, you would never have seen this short stack anywhere near the mic, but he has no problem hassling a little white teenage girl.
All good points, Ed. I know this is just the sort of agitation that has been going on for years with groups like ACORN.
My concern is the rank and file black Americans who are in the middle of (especially) the Acorn scandal. There is a lot of confusion in the black community right now about what and who to believe and many, especially the younger, are quite dismayed about the whole thing. I see the shock and sadness everyday in the faces of my friends. I am sure I am not the only one to have noticed this.
I know for a fact that the calls of 'racism' are being applied very strongly in this community by organizations such as ACORN right now with the goal being further agitation.
We know this is really about Freedom and Individuality and the Constitution. It is a delicate situation and compassion toward our fellow Americans has always been a virtue.

I wonder what Holmgren did yesterday?
The Democrats have tried to shove their Distorted Perceptions on America since the Civil War.
That's when they formed the KKK.
Don't forget "The Palm Beach Story" he was great in that ! I think that was a Sturges film as well.
The Democrats have tried to shove their Distorted Perceptions on America since the Civil War.
That's when they formed the KKK. Later they made the Jim Crow laws.
1. Kate would win. Forget the knife. That shrill voice of hers is a powerful weapon.
2. Alan Arkin and the little girl's dance at the end of the movie are both pretty funny, but the rest of it is kind of pointless in my opinion.
The More The Merrier, starring Jean Arthur and Joel McCrea. Great movie!

The basic problem with B. Hussein O. Jr.’s health rationing system is that it begins the argument in the wrong place and in doing so asks the wrong questions.
Can any system give everyone in the world the Rolls Royce of health care? The answer is no. The truth is that there is not enough: doctors, medicines, medical and drug breakthroughs, an economy that can support such massive charity. It is the fact that as humans we are still transcending the Stone Age, but have not completed our evolution. We are in process.
This is the reality whether the solution is Liberal or Conservative.
Beginning there, the question is not whether a few million in the USA can’t get the care they need because that is a fact of living in 2009. The question is how ultimately the most people on the earth will end up with the least health rationing possible?
I have yet to hear of a government run system anywhere that works better than ours does. When I am told of a country that does a better job than the Cuban, Canadian or British failures, two points undercut those successes.
1)Those countries have never had economies that actually sustained themselves by paying all their military defense bills. They function under our umbrella, which we in the USA pay for.
2)Those countries were never able to achieve economies that allowed for the development of the medical procedures and drugs that they use. The USA develops 75% of each, Japan 12.5% and Europe 12.5%.
In other words, to the extent that any country considers itself more successful at limiting health rationing, it is because of the largesse of America and our economic system that drives thriving scientific and technological applications experiments.
so did we!
B. Hussein O. Jr.’s goal which he has stated many times, including often pointing out that to achieve it might take 20 years, is a system in which the government is in charge of rationing medicine.
A government funded option will only serve as a step in that direction, ultimately to put our current system under the control of his bureaucrats.
In doing so, he turns control of 1/6 of our economy over to those government workers, which means 1/6 of our total economy no longer exists, but is extracted every year. This leads to his ultimate goal which is to slow us down for the Rothschild, Bilderberger, New York Fed, Goldman-Sachs, US Treasury, Congressional stinkers (Frank, Schumer, Waxman, et at) nexus. This is a European led economic powerhouse that wants to subordinate American’s to their financial and military will.
You can bet your ass that if Emperor B. Hussein O. Jr. succeeds with his American health rationing scheme that within 10 years of leaving office, they will make sure that he is worth billions.
Big stars get cloned by studios so that they can have theoir own version or even a back up version
Joel McCrea begat William Lundigan and Dennis O'Keefe
Clark Gable begat James Craig.
Many others, but it is a Monday and I am tired.
I, like the Boom Town Rats, dislike Mondays. Well maybe just this particular monday. And so I have a couple of odd questions:
1. In a knife fight between the Octo Mom and Kate plus 8, who wins?
2. I watched Little Miss Sunshine yesterday. What am I missing? Someone got some academy awards and buches of other nominations. Why? I don't get it. Entertaing, yes, but not much else.
Shuffled around his condo in a bathrobe and slippers?
yeah I though that Juno was overrated as well. Funny and all, but not as funny as everyone wanted it to be.
is this the same with Slumdog?
Well, to be honest, in the name of full disclosure, I haven't always made the best decisions when falling down drunk. But for some reason, it always seemed like the thing to do at the time.
Got some scars to prove it.
If a tree falls in the forest, and no one's there to hear it, is the husband still wrong?
As Concisely as I can.
O does not want to 'level the playing field' as hes says.
He wants to make the score at the end of the game equal.
so you who work your butts off to get ahead, won't.
you who work your butts off to get ahead will have no more than the guy who sat on his.
Derek Jeeter hit a big mile stone too recently. Passed Lou Gehrig for most hits in Yankee history.

That link to the article has been removed is there another site to this story "hopefully" before the left can get the story scrubbed!
About the best response I can think of to your thoughts, is, just keep doing what the right is doing. Explain basic freedom, liberty, economics, civics, morals, show common courtesy and decency and lead by example.
I believe it was St. Francis of Assisi once said he would do what ever it took to convert people to Christianity, even resorting to words when necessary.
Screw the MSM, it's all over the new media, blogs, internet, youtube.
The old media is dead. Long live the new media!
Not when this is an 'artist' that people and perhaps your children listen to and emulate….like that other low-life Chris Brown.
Are these the 'musical Obamas' of a new generation? People who will say or do anything because THEY WANT TO?
If we had truly "moved past" racism with the election of Barack Obama – our "post-racial" President, mind you – then why hasn't the Black Caucus been dissolved? Why haven't Farrakahn, Sharpton, and Jackson gone away?
What he really required and asked for was to be popped in the face right there and laid out on the floor.
"Swift" justice.
He'll get his.
You are correct, there will be rationing. That's all government is.
Politics us the extremely ugly art of compromise with opponents who don't want to compromise. What should money be spent on, five miles of new interstate or 20 miles of repaving existing interstate? Raise social security checks or start working on the back log of repairs at national parks? There is no way health care could possibly be handled differently, because that's the way the government was designed at the constitutional convention.
The idea was to keep politicians arguing among themselves, so they didn't have the time or the resources to stick their nose into our business.
With any political compromise, there will be winners, and there will be losers. Which is exactly why health care should not be under their authority.
wow… James Craig. Nice pull.
How about Laird Cragar begat Raymond Burr? there's a trivia for ya…
Actually, I preferred "Hey! Hey! In the Hay Loft".
The more we expose the true nature and methods of organizations like acorn, the more people will understand what is going on. The "racist" charges are beginning to fall on deaf ears. Right now, they are confused. They have been told a lie for a generation plus. It's going to take awhile. We have to remain firm and continue to expose the left for the bankrupt sham that it is. There was a guy on Fox about a week ago. A Phd who, was a boomer. He made the statement that "America will be just fine, if it outlives my generation." Very true.
Yep, doesn't matter. They ignore the "grassroots" at their peril and we are not going away.
and…..we clean up after ourselves! What's not to love?
Maher is be marginalized into obscurity. Don't be fooled by his cherrypicked audience. If BH, Hot Air, etc. didn't run articles about him, I would almost never hear about him. Very few people I know even know who he is. Granted, I live in flyover coutry. The more the country sees firm, full-throted, peaceful opposition from decent folks OF ALL political persuations, except the mid to full left, the more his ilk becomes irrelavant.
"Sullivan's Travels" = much better. Good movie!
You are right. Maher's audience of useful idiots are the same dolts that applaud that Jon (sans H) Stewart's simian mugging every night. HBO is sooo yesterday, anyway…Only someone as plug-ugly as Maher could make it there.__
After reading what's "Now Playing," I can only say:
Oprah, Russell Brand, Jay-Z, Jack Black, Kanye West, Michael Moore, Bill Maher…what a Parliament of Whores.
Some good coverage of the march..The first site might be down because it was not loading when I last clicked on it but save it for later cuz it's a good one.
<a href="http://www.lookingattheleft.com/2009/09/conservat…” target=”_blank”>http://www.lookingattheleft.com/2009/09/conservat…
This is an AWESOME video of the march coverage at CSPAN it's almost 3 hours long but worth watching, I'm watching in bits and pieces.
I also want to say that I am just so freakin' proud of all of my fellow Americans who were able to take time and march.
one more.
<a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article…” target=”_blank”><a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article…” target=”_blank”>http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article…
Exactly.
Some one needs to do something.
First this guy Spike Feresten uses this character: "Lil Bill O'Reilly".
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6kKE3j0OaA&fe…” target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6kKE3j0OaA&fe…
Now Bill Maher <a href="http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=Gd8zqG…” target=”_blank”><a href="http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=Gd8zqG…” target=”_blank”>http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=Gd8zqG…
It needs to be pointed out loudly that these people and their laughing audiences are racists. They have merely found a clever way of utilizing others as a shield to proctect them from responsibility for their own racist humour.
I found it again.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article...
Did anyone notice the NEW YORK JETS did not look like a third rate minor league college team yesterday?
Michael Savage just said the Senate voted 83 to 7 to cut off all federal funding for ACORN!
We're rockin' and rollin' now!
(Yeah, I'm listening to Savage, beats the heck out of NPR)
Favre and the Jets had a real oil and water relationship. Amazing what a compatible QB can do. Also, with the "Mangenius" gone, they may have a chance.
Eeeeeeeeeew!
James Craig was a talented actor who gave worthy performances in any number of films including two truly wonderful 'family' films in the mid 40s at MGM – THE HUMAN COMEDY and OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES.
But if you saw his photo, he is a near dead ringer clone for Clark Gable – mustache, expressions, etc. I think he was actually a better actor than Gable, but none the less.
Another Gable clone – George Montgomery over at FOX.
Laird Cregar begat Raymond Burr? I dunno……..the clones usually turn up while the original is still on the screen….I presume so that other studios get a shot at a so-and-so type in their own films.
I had a short list of 30s and 40s clones here once.
