All right! We blew it! My Generation, The Millennial Generation, totally fell for the oldest trick in the book and now we look like hopeless idiots in front of the whole world. What was our mistake? Youth. The veracity of naivete that only comes with inexperience, adolescence and a total...

Up early, and the world is still as screwed up as when I went to sleep. At least I woke up, always a good start.
Here is a trivia question for you although it probably won't win you a bar bet:
Who said "We keep you alive to serve this ship {of state}. . . row well and live {or face a death panel}" ?
Was it a) Jack Hawkins to Chuck Heston in Ben-Hur or
b) Barrack Obama to the joint session of Congress last week in his health care reform speech
The above is a great picture because it lmost could be several different actresses. It seems to be early 40's or late 30's.I have seen pictures of Veronica, Lake, Stanwyck, Joan Crawford and even Garbo where some of the features look right, but not all of them.
So Obama, rather than face the masses on his front door, retreated out of DC to hang with 15,000
How arrogant can one man be to continue to dismiss and ignore the voices of the people in his face?
"Pride goeth before the fall."
Good morning Sunday readers. Here is something that should alarm people.
Now, physicians are not allowed to test for swine flu until the HEALTH department has okayed it.
Hmmm…. NOT ALLOWED TO TEST until master says it is okay?
WHY?
MSM saw and heard millions of giant strides on the march to freedom, decided reporting the number of unicorns flying out of their saviors butt was all that was newsworthy in DC yesterday. MSM : Porn for Progressives, film and flatulence 24-7.
And Tenn Jed, Barney Frank wishes he had said that but knew it loses something when it has a Daffy Duck splushthering splasthering delivery.
Gorgeous picture of Joan Crawford!
I just discovered a little gem of a B picture from 1983: Tough Enough, starring Dennis Quaid, Stan Shaw, Pam Grier and the late great Warren Oates (in his final performance). Quaid's a fledgling Country singer who enters Oates' Toughman Contest for some extra cash and goes farther than anyone thought he could. Simple premise, very satisfyingly executed and the kind of picture nobody seems capable of making anymore.
It would've made for a great double feature at the drive-in with Take This Job And Shove It. It probably did somewhere.
c) to us
Good question, but the a) answer is both Hawkins AND Heston said it in that terrific movie. Keep 'em comin'
Good answer Trip, and to make it all the more specific, they each said it to each other!
Honduras' interim president: US revoked my visas
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) – Washington has revoked the visas of Honduras' interim president and 17 other top officials to pressure the Central American nation to reinstate ousted leader Manuel Zelaya, Honduras' government said Saturday.

/Spit !
Fing Hussein Obama and Hillary
Stephen, he ran out of DC to attend a 9/11 Memorial service and give a beautiful speech about the sacrifices made by the heroes of that day and reiterate that America will never waver from its commitment to bring the Islamic terrorists who slaughtered 3,000 of our fellow citizens to justice. Oh wait, no he didn't. He attended a rally to hear himself speak about how wonderful and visionary he is and to hear the applause of sycophants.
Obama's Dissolving Credibility
We had our warning during the campaign, we really did.
Remember Barack Obama's famous speech on race, back in March of 2008? Obama had spent 20 years listening to the sermons of Jeremiah Wright, full of venomous anti-Americanism and attacks on "white America." Yet when the reverend's rants were revealed to the public, Obama tried to convince us that he just happened to be missing from the pews on any well-documented Sunday, and that the Jeremiah Wright we saw and heard was not the Wright he knew

TR, The link doesn't work.
Really? More facts not reported by the MSN. A source would be nice buts that's OK. Since it"s anti-Obama, don't bother. (Nice shot with that "Master" jab.)
I found this out today. Ask a nurse.
Yeah, he should have canceled his appointment and spoke to the protest crowd instead. Then you would be praising him here for doing that. He gave a 9/11 speech, and laid a wreath at the Pentagon, on Friday Sept. 11. (Just to set the record straight.)
for a moment thought i was trapped in BIZARRO world ….
yes ddaichiro, i agree with you … it would have been a mighty thing indeed to face the protesters that took the time to visit his, i mean our, house.
After five years of research scientists have come up with an extremely sophisticated machine to help the mainstream media tell the truth. If their clinical trials with the media work, these machines will be sent to Hollywood next. Stay tuned.

Ah, Chicago politics. Blagojevich advisor Chris Kelly offs himself with aspirin. Who's next?
I love these old(er) portraits. I think some of the photographers of these pictures understood and are more sympathetic to their subjects than some contemporary photographers. And the subject wasn't just the people, male and female, but a idea, part of iconography of the studios. Whether one agrees or disagrees with these types of images to promote the studios, it was masterfully done. The photographers seem to understand composition, lighting and contrast better. It isn't like there is a shortage of beautiful woman or handsome men today. Some I would say are even more attractive. But most of photography of today's actresses and actors, sorry to say, doesn't seem to capture that beauty and imagination.
It's typical of this socialist…arrogance, hubris, pick the adjective…I prefer "pig".
It's funny. I actually had a similar thought in last week's open thread with Carole Lombard's photo. I wrote:
I have to wonder… if you photographed some of today's actors in the same style as these classic photos, how would people's perceptions change? (With actresses, it'd be a bit easier. I can easily imagine someone like Naomi Watts in a photo like the one above.)
There probably aren't any studio photographers anymore to craft an overall 'look' as there were in ye olden days. Likewise, there isn't any studio machine (or stable of stars for that matter) to be marketed in a consistent way.
Michelle Obama considers taxpayer funded Federal Work Study volunteering??? She has "challenged" the students to volunteer to Earn the right to have her give their commencement address – but she includes federally funded programs which PAY students:
"Service hours will be counted by monthly by the GW Office of Community Service, and “volunteerism, service learning, and federal work study” will count toward the tally, according to a university statement. Work with AmeriCorps and other pro-bono service will be counted as well."
Sure seems to me that Work Study is income – the IRS thinks so, as it's reportable income! – and I'm pretty sure most AmeriCorps "volunteers" are compensated as well. Perhaps she doesn't think they'll meet the goal otherwise?? This is ridiculous – I don't want to Pay for her to speak!

Sadly, a great number of that vaunted 'youth market' wouldn't get the homage and wonder why someone was being photographed in such an old-timey way. Still, Vanity Fair quite often does photo spreads with well-crafted portraits that often hearken back to the classic style, often with great results.

Well, great minds think alike.
I seem to recall some photography of Naomi Watts, what a beautiful woman, promoting King Kong. It was a step in the right direction. But it still didn't stir my imagination like some of those classic (good word) images. Perhaps it's our high def world. The lighting was softer and more forgiving. Also B&W is more forgiving when dealing with contrast. Look at the above photo, how the shadow of her chin shapes her face and how the contrast makes her eyes stand out. Some of that have been makeup, nothing wrong with that, but a really good photographer takes advantage of that. Just gorgeous.
Let's get down to the most important item of the day: "True Blood's" season finale tonight!! Oh yeah!!
love the show .. however i've been somewhat dissapointed the past few weeks a bit too over the top for me.
hope they leave it with something i will look forward to and not just a continuation of this mess.

Even worse was Reuters coverage. Their headline said "Coup" and the body of the article included "coup" three times, in their left-wing description of the Honduran system of government's legal removal of Zelaya from his position as president.
A more appropriate way to describe Zelaya's removal from power would be to say that it was the Honduran equivalent of an American impeachment & conviction of a US president.
The Reuters (more aptly Wrongers?) article is yet one more example of left-wing bias in the State-run Mainstream Media. It's the New Media for me, now & forever. I'm proud to say that I haven't bought a newspaper in years, not even to wrap fish or to use as toilet paper.

Yes, you are right. Will Bill be supplanted by Eric? Will the menat die? Who is in charge? And will the Vampire Queen show up?
Sorry, man. Obviously Crawford. (Veronica Lake? Never.)
Call a friendly nurse. Find out for yourself.
And b/c it is Joan Crawford accounts for the lack of comments here b/c she was an actress that appealed mostly to women.
For guys – STRANGE CARGO – that film where she helps Clark Gable escape from Devil's Island…that's a good one with 'spooky' religious overtones. 1940 MGM
Mildred Pierce – is a chick flick in intent, but manages to appeal to a guy audience, as well, to a certain extent. 1945 WB. Good cast and I like films where people open their own business. She opens a restaurant.
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane – king of an idiotic film, but, these, days, one of her best known.
Most of her 30s films at MGM are largely forgotten, as are her subsequent films at Warners.
She's got 'something', but I don't know what it is from lack of viewing.
A bunch of great pics of the march on DC yesterday. My personal favorite sign is the one that says, "I don't belong to the party of No. I'm with the party of Hell No!"

Never thought I'd say "enough with the orgies," but they've dragged them out too long.
I'm actually hoping poor Jessica & Hoyt work things out. As more of an Eric than Bill fan, I'm rootin' for the viking! I didn't think Evan Rachel Wood impressed at all, so she can stay out of Bon Temps as much as possible, IMHO! I'm starting to wonder if they'll turn Lafayette or Tara into vamps…
It's amazing what you find out about gov't policies and insurance company policies when you ASK YOUR DOCTOR about it!
Obama sees himself in Zelaya, so he is nervous.
As far as Obama's type go, they consider us ingrates for not recognizing the Utopia they are constructing for us.
I like "Madam Speaker: Kiss Our Astroturf"
I'll try the university health center, I pay for it anyway….
I surprised they didn't throw him Ft. Marcy Park in D.C., I can see Rahm and Obama standing near the body and smoking cigs and plotting the demise of the next *victim*.
Joan Crawford – San Antonio, Texas…
Perhaps a *feeling* of uncertainty concerning American's health will make us feel more indebted to a "government cure".
It's a young Joan Crawford. (prob. early 30's when she was sometimes a blond) Look at the mouth/nose.
Not a big current movie buff, current meaning anything after the 50s with a few exceptions, but as much as I like the previous generation of movie stars Ms Crawford just didn't do it for me. I do not think she was attractive and as far a her ability as an actress I'll accept L.B. "Oscar" Mayer's explanation that she appealed to predominately women. Ms Crawfords appearance in TCM's night or two of her movies doesn't keep me from watching but its a forgetful evening or two. Now Jean Harlow…………………….
Joan Crawford was very popular with the guys and girls… except Marilyn Monroe who turned her down after their first get together.
Jackie Coogan was 17 when he and Joan Crawford fooled around
Google Joan Crawford: Hollywood Martyr (page 123 for Coogan)
"No wire hangers, ever!"
Now that Charlie Sheen thinks he knows what happened on 9/11, I guess I'll have to wear Fruit of the Loom from now on…
They fit better, anyway…
Gee, this is a hard one….;-)
The Joan Crawford photograph re-inforces the comment made by Gloria Swanson (paraphrase) in Sunset Boulevard , 'we had faces then….'
The thing about Crawford and Bette Davis and nearly all the female stars in the 30s and 40s whose appeal was mostly to women was that these screen ladies actually gave real performances. Some were not the best actresses, but when you saw them up on the screen, they cut an impressive figure. There are few actresses like that today.
Those women knew how to move, knew how to speak, knew how to stand. knew how to listen and knew how to give the big reaction. Impeccable make-up, beautifully dressed with distinctive diction and voices and faces.
Those days are gone.
One does not have to look any further than Obamas Resume and virtually everything he says. While Obama was busy running for president(while still on the Senate payroll I might add)–Many people were chanting "Yes We Can" and Hopey Changey!!!! Etc Etc. While the O-bots were living in La-La land, I was busy dissecting these speeches. The one thing that has been blatantly obvious and is still blantly obvious—This Good ole boy can can sing one heck of a song –But he aint saying anything!!!!!!!!!! Heres a Wonderful example –Lets take Obamas nationally televised press conference for the Promotion of his Health care reform bill—I listened to Obumble for almost an entire hour and the only concrete statement he made was regarding "Stupid Cops in Cambridge,Mass". I cant imagine what folks were thinking when they elected a junior senator from Illinois of all places. You got what you paid for America–And your gonna keep on paying!
Well if there is a funny side to all of this imagine how he feels (befuddled?) when the right is using the same tactics against him as the left usually does. I don't think most of them know what to make of it (astroturfing comments; etc)
Joan Crawford… what a beauty.
What the . . . ? Scary stuff continues to accumulate.
