Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Walter Mattheau was a great actor who could do drama and comedy equally well. Do not despair, defeat the reform of health care!
I liked Walter in Grumpy Old Men…
Didn't he do the film version of "Hello Dolly" with Streisand?
As a song-and-dance-man, slightly better than Lee Marvin…
On Wednesday, I watched his movie 'Hopscotch,' and plan on watching his other light-hearted movie 'Charlie Varrick' tonight. They remind me what a versatile actor Walther was.
I liked Matthau in everything he did……the classic lovable grouchy 'dutch uncle'.
Today I woke feeling happy for the first time since Obama was President, Acorn is going down Monday when a new video exposes them for what they really are, a bunch of crooks.
Now I will go watch a Matthau movie and make some popcorn…
I meant to post the slide show which isa better way to look at Cardboard Obama:

Hi, this is my first post here and hopefully not my last. I'm a conservative, mashuga granny who makes endless fun of our Dear Leader. My latest effort is Cardboard Cut-Out Obama:

note: It's best viewed with the slideshow, but that link doesn't seem to come out here. Try again:

Rumblings in Baltimore that the Baltimore office of the State AG just might charge the investigators of Acorn with law violations. Now, isn't that just lovely? It's getting real close, people.
Matthau! Hahaha! So good in everything.
Three faves –
BIGGER THAN LIFE – (1956 and only his third film) with James Mason as a school teacher and Matthau as the school coach. Mason begins to overuse a painkiller which starts to drive him insane. In one climatic scene, Matthau and Mason have a sprawling fist-fight down a flight of stairs in Mason's home. Bravura!
MIRAGE- (1965) Highly underrated thriller with Greg Peck and Matthau and a great cast (Kevin McCarthy, George Kennedy, Jack Weston, Walter Abel, Diane Baker). Peck 'awakens' in a NYC office building during a blackout and has no idea who he is or how he got there. Matthau is a cheap-jack detective who tries to help while both men face extreme danger. Crisp black and white stunner.
And the still well known (I hope)
FAIL SAFE – Cold War icon as US planes accidentally head for Moscow with nuclear payload and cannot be called back. Total nail biter with another great male cast and Matthau as a Henry Kissinger type advocating that we take full advantage of our error. Hank Fonda as President, Larry Hagman (!!) as our interpreter and a knock-out performance in a small role as an US Army Sgt by a young Dom DeLuise that you will never forget. Brutal.
Matthau = Unique
Larry Gelbart (writer – "Tootsie", "M*A*S*H" the TV version) has passed away. He also worked on "Your Show of Shows". Very funny man.

Just reading about Obama putting trade penalties on Chinese tires,
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9ALQ0TG0...
thinking about the lead-paint-on-Chinese-made-toys furor not long ago, and started wondering which tire brands are made exclusively in the US or Canada?
What's this "might" crap? Where the FEDERAL INVESTIGATION, ALREADY?!?!
If I was the American President, I would be radical Islam's biggest worry. I would be a total bitch to Islamofascists.
I would employ the punishment of decimation to put fear and respect into my enemy. If there were any sort of terrorist attack perpetated by Muslims, bang! One tenth of mosques here in America shut down and razed, the mosques almost randomly selected, but the ones the attackers belonged to absolutely would be torn down. The attackers' families, every member, deported. If there was an "honor killing" committed here, the women will be allowed to decide if they will stay but the men are deported absolutely. The mosque which the person ordering or perpetrating the killing belonged to is razed. All Imams seeking federal or state positions as prison clergy are screened. Then again, Christianity has a better message for prisoners, so maybe Islam will not be welcome in my prisons and jails.
Yes, both MIRAGE and FAIL SAFE were excellent choices. Even though he is in a supporting role, his was dominent when he was on the screen. Let me suggest two other movies where he had starring roles – HOUSE CALLS and SUNSHINE BOYS.
Thank you Big Hollywood for the many 9 – 11 tributes yesterday. This year the remembrances seemed to have a more powerful impact on me, maybe because it seems we are now being attacked from within, by an enemy with as little humanity as the Islamic lunatics who still threaten, plot and murder around the world. Even the ones of us who truly will never forget that day might need to have the individuals, victims and heroes alike, have their stories retold. Or want them told, now and forever.
Matthau was a funny guy, many a good flick.

Smoot-Hawley vs. Payback for the Unions.
There is a scene in Fail-Safe at the beginning where Matthau's character is at a function and he explains the two groups of people most likely to survive a nuclear blast: prisoners (because of the solid construction of the prisons) and file clerks (because of all that paper).
At the time I was working as a file clerk and all I could think of was, "Uh… good?"
For two hours of entertainment, you can't go wrong with The Taking of Pelham One Two Three with Matthau and a badass Robert Shaw.

Not a related story, but did anyone else catch the opening minutes of Craig Ferguson last night? I saw very little on the other late-night shows about commemorating 9/11 but he had some pretty good remarks. Although I don't agree with some of Craig's politics (the little I know of them), he genuinely loves this country and stands up for it more than do a lot of people who were born here. I'll see if I can find the video and link it later.
The Fortune Cookie. is one of my all time favorites, And a New Leaf is a good one as well. But you can never go wrong with seeing Walter and Jack in the same movie. Those two were just about joined at the hip.
The more the mainstream media and outlets like CNN report stories like this in a blatantly misleading way, the harder it is for them to claim that they aren't biased.
When he and Lemmon got together you ended up laughing.
I recommend “A New Leaf" (1971.) Walter portrays a rich bum who has lived a life of luxury on someone else’s dime and suddenly the money dries up. He’s hopelessly lazy and unemployable so his personal butler conspires with him to figure on a plan how to keep living like a king without having to get a job. A Laugh Riot.

Two minutes ago AP posts a story stating Obama claims he will be held responsible if health care reform does not work. No wonder, he chose not to have it implemented until after his re-election has been decided.
Andrew is on Beck!
Or for the big bills on the grand health care plan coming due after he is out of office.
I was first introduced to Mr. Mattheau in 1976 with the "Bad News Bears" when I was just eight. He was always a grandfather figure to me, which is probably why I liked him so much. Loved his work in "Grumpy Old Men" and it's sequel as well as "Tthe Odd Couple" movie when he paired up again with Jack Lemon (another one of a kind great). Then there are a bunch of other terrific lesser known movies I sorta stumbled upon late at night like "Taking of Pelham 123", "Dennis the Menace" if you have kids, and many others I don't even know the names of. He was one of the all-time greats and I'll forever miss him.
I saw an interview with Neil Simon a few years ago, and he was talking about writing "The Odd Couple" with Mattheau in mind for Oscar. He sent him the script, and Mattheau called him the next day and said, "I read it, I love it, I want to play Felix!" Simon's response was basically, "Huh??" Mattheau replied, "Well this Oscar guy, I could phone that part in; but Felix, THAT'S acting!" Simon told him, "Uh-huh, act in someone else's play; I want you for Oscar." It was a stage play before they filmed with Jack Lemmon. I think Art Carney was Felix.
I went over the section of the law relevant here, and I think this is a smoke screen…
Section 10-402 deals with INTERCEPTION of communication (http://law.justia.com/maryland/codes/gcj/10-402.h... This isn't an intercept.
If you can use tape from a robbery as evidence of the crime in proceedings, this also applies for the investigation of ACORN…this is not an intercept, as one of the involved parties knew of the recording, and the second party is in CONSPIRACY to commit several egregious felonies, seven of which are punishable under RICO, (BIG OUCH), and demonstration of criminal behavior within the ten year window is extremely evident (voter fraud). If Skippy there in Maryland is too afraid to prosecute, Marylanders can fix that at next election…and Washington DC is under Metropolitan Police jurisdiction, not his…
I'd just move this to Federal Court and let Skippy rationalize out why he can't do his job…
I am certain that everyone writing here is aware of the following, but I still want to remind everyone that this ploy can just as easily work in reverse.
I am a Sons Of Anarchy fan. I realize that eventually I am probably going to be profoundly disappointed when it turns out that Ron Pearlman is a flaming Liberal and for the same reason will have regretted enjoying Katey Sagal looking and holding her body like a thinned, aging speed freak, tweaking, cynically wise (in the context of biker gangsters) cunt.
This season opens with White Racists moving into Charming with the goal of permanently removing SOA.
Here’s the ideological rub: the racist makes a perfectly legitimate argument about how he had to pull his son out of t-ball games because all the kids got a trophy, not just the winners. The racist makes a remark about how trying to treat everyone equally is wrong. The subtext here appears to also be a shot at treating races equally.
The problem is that what the Left is doing with this ideological thrust is to belittle American exceptionalism and achievement by associating it with the modern worst bugaboo, namely racism.
Since the 60s the strategy of undermining the principles that have made the USA great and insured our freedoms has been performed in who knows how many different ways?
There’s no reason that SAMCRO couldn’t have met at one of their son’s t-ball game and since they are the good guys, made the complaint about how the kid was being turned into a loser wimp.
I always remember him from Taking of Pelhem 123 and from Bad News Bears. Great actor.
That's how I feel too.
Channel surfing when the story broke, hit CNN and that was the basis of the discussion there.
1. There are laws against secretly taping people in Maryland ( ..we know that because Linda Tripp broke the law taping Monica Blowbillski.)
2. This isn't journalism because ACORN says they tried this at a number of A-offices and were shot down. Not disclosing that fact somehow makes this not jounalism.
At no time was any concern about ACORN tax advisors helping a pimp setup a prostitution ring mentioned.
There are two worlds we live in, the one where news happens, and the one where the mainstream media just spins reality to suit the socialist agenda.
Chocolate and surrounded by fruits and nuts. A cookie and a president?
But remember: Opie appears to be the only SAMCRO member with t-ball age kids, and he's not exactly being a good dad at the moment. Jax's son is still an infant (remember–Grandma said she doesn't want feeding him soy milk to make him a "vegan p****y") And the comment needed to be said by someone who isn't SAMCRO since those are the 'better' bad guys–they only run guns to gang members–perfectly moral behavior! ;-D
If it makes you feel worse about the show, Sagal got her job because she's married to it's creator, Perlman can't really ride a motorcycle, and the lead, Charlie Hunnam is English. Nah, didn't work for me either. I LOVE the show. Sagal has been superb since last season. And Adam Arkin and Henry Rollins as Nazis is a pretty funny twist. I also would hardly call a show that makes sexy heroes about a gang of vicious criminals to be leftist propaganda. Its just good, nasty fun. (my fave moment last season was Sagal bashing the woman with a skateboard)
You think "Charley Varrick" is light hearted? It's about as funny as "King Lear."
Great post, man — GREAT post.
If you want to make sure: There is a Department of Transport code on the wall of every tire sold in the US. Look for a row of letters/numbers starting with DOT. The first two letters tell you which plant it was made in.

You would think Goodyear is mostly an American tire maker, but as with most products these days, it´s hard to say. The best experience I had was with Michelin tires, but of course it´s a French brand…

Our so-called comedians say it is not possible to make fun of Obama. I say he´s a treasure trove. Rich Lowry is no comedian, but don´t tell me a true comedian cannot find a wealth of material here:

IMO, SAMCRO are vicious criminals (and also quite racist themselves–they're just equal opportunity businessmen as they sell illegal guns to black and Mexican gangs alike); they are hardly characters that should be espousing valid child rearing tips! Don't get me wrong–I love the show, but it's in the difficult position of finding adversaries for 'heroes' who are all violent felons–Nazis are about it. (Sure, you could bring in terrorists I suppose, but that totally changes the scope of the show) Regarding the t-ball comment–in an episode featuring a man getting shot graphically in the head, then getting a giant "A" carved in his stomach, as well as a violent gang rape, the t-ball comment is by far the least socially irresponsible thing in it.

Possibly none of these thugs should be given a voice of reason, but then how do you counter the t-ball insert/suggestion, the one that belittles the idea of raising kids in the real world to know that to succeed they must compete?
Can we hook up electrodes to writers and zap them every time they consciously represent the old communist party line against individual imitative? When they are dumbing us down to accept Big Brother being in charge of every minor decision?
Possibly the solution is to encourage writers to leave the t-ball scenes out. If they don’t, we end up with several thousand suggestions a year that are each viewed and to some extend accepted by millions as reality.
The only way to enjoy SOA is if we have a way of identifying into it and in that sense, these characters aren’t all bad. They do have families and they are concerned about how they are raised. Maybe normal American values can be extended to some extent to the humanizing aspects for each anti-hero thug.
This wasn’t intended to identify the most emotionally powerful or meaningful issue in SOA.I am suggesting that some of the most damage to our civilization is being perpetuated in the smaller ideological suggestions that Hollywood shoves down our throats and that it can be farily easily be countered by slanting in revere.
BTW, I meant Perlman, not Pearlman.
I don’t care how Sagal got the part. She is great in it.
The Arkin character also has a fantastically creepy look. Something about his cheeks tell me that he is likely to turn out to be the Grand Wizard who really likes to insert his penis in little boys.
I am not talking about the beat for beat whether or not any given dialog or scene can exist within the logic of any given story line.
Nor am I saying that the entirety of the whole show adds up to Leftist propaganda.
However, as we all know it is impossible to present any piece of media without ideological implications to be merely “just good, nasty fun.”
The t-ball remarks undercut basic American exceptionalism. When these ideological thrusts, though not the front and center point of any given work, are inserted thousands of times a year into public consciousness and then viewed by millions, the effect is subliminally anti-American.
You know that. I know that. Why are you trying to misrepresent that to me?
Weird double-ish post from me because (shocker) the site ate my first post. See, the thing is, SAMCRO IS all bad…the Mafia loved their kids and had strong family values, too, but they were still evil. The fun/conflict of the show's premise is we're rooting for people who we wouldn't want as next door neighbors. SAMCRO is the best at what they do…but what they do is criminal. But re: the t-ball, while I agree that competition is good for kids, I always thought t-ball was played by extremely young kids (isn't that the one where the ball isn't even thrown at the kid, it stands on a stick?) so it never seemed wrong to give everyone a trophy at that stage. And, no, I don't have kids. Can you tell? ;-D I guess I just didn't see the t-ball remark as a blow against American civilization. Personally the fewer plot threads that involve kids at all, the better for me.
My posts are being eaten also. The above isthe last paragraph of what I wrote. I am going to try again.

The Laughing Policeman – great flick
My posts to both of your replies have either been edited or have not shown up. Your answers are to partial posts of mine.
I assume that something in what I wrote triggered the Big Hollywood computer to flag my posts to be looked at by a person.
Probably they will all show up tomorrow.
I wonder if BH has a list of the triggers that we need to write around if we don't want to get flagged.
Dude–you got the c-word through in your first post. Whatever the flagging system is, it makes no sense at all!
He was indeed a fine actor.
Yes, except they allowed that post and partial posts later in the same thread. I think the problem is with other words embedded in the other posts. It all happened too quickly for a person to be the censor.
Further, the word "cunt" was an artistic expression of the reality of the Sagal character. After all she did in a paranoid rage knock a younger innocent girl on her butt with a skateboard.
Let me see? I have both hands out to weigh the situation. The word "cunt" is in one hand. The fact of bashing a woman's head in with a skateboard is in the other. I don't know. I think you have to remove the skateboard scene before my description of the character who performed it.
More importantly, mind control begins with words. No word should ever be off limits – especially in a discussion of art. You begin by taking away words, then phrases, then whole ideas, then thoughts of ideas, then actions. Voila, the politically correct police have castrated its population.

Mattheau played his scenes as if he were momentarily trapped in the movie but really wanted to be some place else. Like Emmet Walsh, he improved any movie he appeared in.
