Van Jones quit, …darn. It would have been fun to point at that jerk as a shining example of Barry’s anti-American friends. I’m sure he’ll move on as a parasite herder (community organizer) and lead other whole groups of people into oblivion, he’ll be missed.
How about an article on the boycott of the Toronto International Film Festival over the film about Tel Aviv because Israel is an "apartheid state"? Jane Fonda and Danny Glover, among others, have signed on to the boycott.
As I learn more about the politics of many Hollywood stars, I find it more and more difficult to watch the movies they appear in. I've always liked Jane Fonda as an actress, but alas, I will not spend a penny on any more of her films. Ditto Danny Glover.
Stan, it will still be possible to point to Van Jones as an example of Obama's friends. He fits right into the Rev Wright-Bill Ayers-Khalid Rashidi mold.
There has always been a mystique associated with Lombard!
The Washington Post in an early morning article this morning called Jones "a towering figure in the environmental movement" !!!??? Who in the world is writing for that paper these days? High school dropouts?
Just read that teen unemployment is at its highest level, 25.5 percent, since 1948, when such statistics started being kept. I recall, the last time the minimum wage was arbitrarily raised, reading several articles knocking the move. Argument being, every time such populist, feel-good measures are enacted, teen employment is hit the hardest, as teens hold the majority of minimum-wage positions.
This happened here in Illinois last year, a year after our Democrat-controlled State Congress raised the state's minimum-wage requirement. Now it appears to have occurred on the national level, as well.
"Yayyy! I'm minimum-wage and it just got raised to over ten bucks an hour! Cool!…Wait, what do you mean, my hours are getting cut? And nobody else is hiring right now?…Downsizing? What? My job? But I'm supposed to get over ten bucks an hour now! What the hell's going on?"…
Ah, yes, the law of unintended consequences strikes again.
Minimum wage would not be an issue if it had been tied to inflation in 1970- when it was 1.75 an hour. I was on minimum wage at that time, and could still afford an apartment, and save money.
ut the average rate of inflation yearly is 3.3%, and if the MW had kept up, the rate would now be approximately 21,50 an hour now- astounding isn't it?
Most people do not recognize that their wages are tied to the minimum wage, if by no other means than as comparison; the MW is used as the base rate, and many bosses have that as the starting rate for their workers that they have to train.
The Congress, in its infinite stupidity, did not tie it to the inflationary rate, and now it has lagged so far behind, I doubt we'll ever catch it up.
That is a pity, because while the MW is the starting rate, it should also be a rate that people can subsist on without living at their parent's house, a rate they can begin to be independent on.
"That is a pity, because while the MW is the starting rate, it should also be a rate that people can subsist on without living at their parent's house, a rate they can begin to be independent on."
It can't be both. Almost no one starting a first-time job has any experience in what it takes to make themselves a valuable employee. My youngest teenager has neither the knowledge nor the skill to earn enough salary to live on his own. However, after a few years of employment at a series of jobs where he has developed the knowledge and skills, he should be ready to support himself. In the meantime, I don't expect an employer to pay my unskilled son the wage of a skilled employee — because it's called the "minimum" wage, not the "living" wage.
The current high teen unemployment rate (~25%) suggests that employers may at least partially agree with me. And if the minimum wage were currently $21.50, I reckon that number would be about 100%.
The black and white and sepia tone shots of these former starlets are stunning in their beauty. Carole Lombard, what a fox!
We've still got Geithner………even if nothing shows up that he's Anti-American………he's still a "TAX CHEAT."
Who's next?
For the statist we mustn’t look at results, but only intention. The minimum wage was never intended as a living wage, but a place to start for kids.
VOTE WITH YOUR ENTERTAINMENT DOLLARS…………HOLLYWEIRD WILL GET THE MESSAGE.
Your calculation are wrong spending power of $1.75 would only be $6.84 http://www.aier.org/research/worksheets-and-tools... If you are working any length of time and still earning minimum wage a company feels either your job skills are minimal or anyone can fill the job. All wages are not tied to minimum wages they are basic supply and demand when minimum wage was $5.15/hour and unemployment was low i had to hire incoming employees with no skills $8-$9 an hour. If you are old enough to move out and only have enough stills to earn minimum wage you have other issues.
Charles Rangel is next to go.
Interesting point about Naomi Watts. I thought she was the perfect casting choice in KIng Kong for precisely that reason. She does have a sort of 1930s style look about her.
"Minimum wage would not be an issue if it had been tied to inflation in 1970- when it was 1.75 an hour."
The problem is that minimum wage drives inflation, which means that trying the two together would create a feedback loop.
Carol Lombard named Errol Flynn's house "Cirrosis By The Sea" Good humor, classy lady, too young gone.
God I was hoping we could kick Van Jones around for a few more days…Funny the news media said he resgned because of derogatory remarks about Republicans and that he signed the 9-11 Truther petition.
Funny they forgot to mention that he was a Jew Hating, Anti White, Anti American, Cop Killer supporting, Marxist , Communist…….. like Obama
The bad apple, Van Jones is gone. But the truth is — the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
The Obama Presidency is over. This Van Jones thing was just the tumor that showed the inevitable: it is terminal and will never recover. The rats are jumping ship and the vultures are circling. The next few months should be interesting indeed.
Don't believe for a moment that Jones will not be in the WH at some level.
He'll just have to use the back door now so Obama can make us think he has implemented some more change.
Takes more than that to get mange off a dog.
The White House is filled with Black Panther types from the late 60's. They finally made it to the White House to pay back CRACKER with the help from a few CRACKERS who bend over for them.
Yes….that statement sounds racist……but that is how they see YOU……if you agree with CRACKER and you are BLACK…..well….you know the words THEY have for your kind.
When Barry wanted CHANGE……..CHANGE……….WE CAN BELIEVE IN……….he was referring CHANGE for the BLACK RACE……….the little change coming for CRACKER will be sprinkled out like bird seed to chickens. They prefer to see you CRACKERS suffer the way they feel their ancestors did while being slaves.
Now don't forget BARRY had know ancestors as SLAVES……….his ancestors came from KENYA……and they liked selling slaves to the FREE WORLD. Now Barry's mother was WHITE and a communist fellow traveler. So BARRY is just another RACIST being groomed by COMMUNIST HANDLERS and suckering like minded BLACK AND WHITE so called AMERICANS to help overthrow America from the inside out!
Instead of the Black Panthers fighting cops (PIGS) in Oakland, CA………they are now at the White House!.
Where are the voices from our prior PRESIDENTS who are still alive? Why are they being silent? Are all of them in on the BIG BLACK LIE?
Quit? Yeah. With a little help from his friends.
The Van has left the garage.
Farewell, human clunker.

Even money says Van starts trolling for Huff Po…
Jane Fonda has been at the top of my list of “Wouldn’t walk across the street to see her movies – even if they paid me” for a long time, with Sean Penn a close second. Over the years I've added George Clooney; Barbara Streisand; Tim Robbins; Alex Baldwin; Susan Sarandon; Matt Damon & Anything by Michael Moore to the list. Danny Glover disappoints me. I really thought he was smarter than that.
FYI for all you Hollywood actors/producers – Knowing that these people are fighting for and supporting the destruction of our country ruins any movie and/or TV program they might be in for me. I keep thinking, He’s (She’s) a liberal (read Socialist/Communist), and can’t keep up with the plot, much less enjoy the show!
Van, we hardly knew ye…
Boy are they in a fizz today! I love it!
Well stated … Amen!
Jane Fonda still makes movies???
When the Dems took over Congress in 2006 they enacted three annual minimum wage increases
Dec 2006 unemp: 4.5%
5.15 – 5.85
Dec 2007 unemp: 5.0%
5.85 – 6.55
Dec 2008 unemp: 7.2%
6.55 – 7.25
Jul 2009 unemp: 9.4%
Granted, there is a recession, yet, it still seems that one might expect one republican to be talking about the single stupidest economic policy in American History: raising wage rates during a protracted recession. The republican party is a complete mess.
I wouldnt' jump to this conclusion yet. There is still the Wag-the-dog play.
ya, that's what *got him*, sunshine does that to cockroaches and rats, it exposes them…
well parts for 70 year old asshats are rare but ya, ocassionaly, "Monster in Law" with J.Lo recently…Fonda is the Monster in question.

Glovers been a leftist psycho for years…he thinks ANY black man in prison is there because of some kind of conspiracy against our African American community. He's certifiable…
From Rasmussen:
Leading liberals are already thinking the unthinkable: Challenging President Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012.
According to a report on the left-leaning Huffington Post website, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann and Eugene Robinson, an African-American national columnist for The Washington Post, discussed just such a possibility Thursday night. Robinson said Obama needs to be careful how he handles the health care reform issue and the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Olbermann said the president has “compromised on everything so far and as self-defeating as it may be, the progressive caucus and progressives would abandon him if necessary, if this was to be the policy of this administration into 2012. If it’s necessary to find somebody to run against him, I think they’d do it, no matter how destructive that may seem.”

Probably not a million bucks response, but I'd offer Dana Delaney's name in contention for her role in China Beach and efforts regarding the POW-MIA's.
Ms. Joanne Woodward fills those shoes (RIP Mr. Paul Newman)
I recently watched the original To Be or Not to Be and when Ms. Lombard appeared on the screen, I said to myself, "Where has she been all my life?!"
Then I realized I had actually seen her already in Hitchcock's Mr. and Mrs. Smith and My Man Godfrey but for some reason, her beauty just jumped off the screen in To Be… (Maybe it was because she was married to Jack Benny so I thought, "Well, if a schlub like that can bag a dame like her, then there's hope for all of us!")
P.S. I have to wonder… if you photographed some of today's actors in the same style as these classic photos, how would people's perceptions change? (With actresses, it'd be a bit easier. I can easily imagine someone like Naomi Watts in a photo like the one above.)
Keith Obermann via email to DailyKos was all the dirt real or made-up he can get on Glenn Beck over the Van Jones resignation. Olbermann's bread ticket is Barrack Obama.

Gable and Lombard. Lombard and Gable. Are there any married stars that even come close to the brilliance of their glow? Ben Affleck and….that one he's married to, Demi Less and Ashcan Koochie…don't make me laugh! Brangelina…they are not even married and besides, they aren't fit to wipe the dust off the Gables' Grauman's Theater footprints.
Carole Lombard had a potty mouth, but was a classy cusser. Actresses today don't come close to pulling it off. But the biggest difference is Lombard died after serving her country selling war bonds in Indiana. Name one actress today that could fill those shoes and I'll give you a million bucks.
"Carole Lombard had a potty mouth, but was a classy cusser."
How do we know this? They seems at odds with each other.
Affleck's Jennifer Garner is a sweetheart. Keeps her political opinions to herself (if she has any), raises her kids w/o fuss or fanfare, appears in daytime wearing clothes a mom would wear, came from a conservative family and was raised well with family values. She's still a pretty big name, but you rarely see papparazzi pap of her for whatever reason.
Just sayin'……..

This is a chart from the Bureau of Labor. Use the CPI, translates the minimum wage for a given year into 1996 dollars.
I hope they do get disillusioned enough to get someone else for 2012. Barack Obama's style is the only reason he's in the White House now and the Democrats can be pushing their agenda so strongly. If they try to run another person, the country absolutely will not go for it.
True. But try as I might there I can't see any way he can spin his way out of his quagmire. He might go for a power play but it will never amount to anything other than a postponement of the inevitable and don't think the powers that be don't see it.
Do you trust Obama to do the right thing? Neither does most of his constituents even the ones who voted for him.
p { margin: 0; }
would you settle for 250,000?
Who's the dame?
It's been a good week… heck, a good month for conservatives. Liberals are in retreat on all fronts. Who would have thought, after the drubbing we took in the last election, that we would have the libs scurrying for the dark places only a few months later.
Awesome…
The point, Mike, was not that I would still be earning that amount- I realize the MW is a base, but everyone's wage is calculated off of that base, whatever it is– and, 3.3% yearly inflationary rate is correct- the cost of goods rises by that amount, on average every year.
The MW should at least somewhat correspond- it doesn't even come close, so wages, even those NOT MW are beginning to lag behind, which is one reason we are where we are.
That chart looks great, but all it does is show us how crappy our money is, when 5.35= 4,41 we are getting screwed as a working population.
I stand by my figures even if Congress will not.
The point, which you all seem to miss, is that the goods and services were more in line with the 1.75 per hour I was making back then, and I was able to afford an apartment, pay bills, and save money- try that on MW these days. Also, the employers were able to make a profit when the MW was where it was. The prices of virtually everything have gone up an average of 1000% over thirty years, why not the MW? Because profit wins out over what should be right.
Is the check in the mail? ^ _ ^
p { margin: 0; }
Hey, it's Labor Day weekend…mail ain't runnin.' Uh…I'll gladly pay you…on Tuesday…that's the ticket…Tuesday.
Well if I did the calculation correctly, the 1.60 wage rate of 1970 converts into a 22.66 at the 5.85 minimum wage (the last one where the CPI number was listed). You're in the ball park for sure.
Erosion of the value of our money is one of Ron Paul's signature issues.
There is a relevant point missing though.
My understanding is that less than a half million workers were receiving the mimimum wage in 2006. 50% are under age 25.
http://www.bls.gov/cps/minwage2006.htm
What percent of the people in 1970 earned the minimum wage? I can't find that figure anywhere.
Mmm…..meantime, 'til your check gets here, I'm sure you'll have no problem co-signing the note for my $50K new truck I can't afford?

Is it a hybrid? I'm only thinking of your welfare…
8-passenger crew-cab pickup with a 12' bed and dualies; 20,000 lb tow pkg; diesel engine getting 2 mpg; a/c front and rear, and a carbon footprint big enough to give Algore hives.
What color you want?
p { margin: 0; }
I like the Algore hives part, but the rest of it is MaleGreek to me…I could probably find the dipstick, though. Does it come in a nice prune color?
Would that be 'candy apple red' prune?
or 'midnight metalic blue' prune? I can live with either.
p { margin: 0; }
Kind of a cranberry/mango/prune colored with fushia whitewalls. Don't forget the gun rack and the 8-tracks…
married to William Powell and Clark Gable, Jack Benny was married to Martha, but was seen mostly with "Rosco"
I don't think Clark Gable was ever the same after her death.
