Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Dana Andrews – at his best in LAURA in my opinion.
His finest performances are all very 'anchored' and rock solid.
I don't recall if he ever did comedy.
Wonder when/if the Congress will grow enough spine to toss these "Obama czars" out on their unconstitutional backsides?
Do we really need 36 of them? Well, We the People don't need even the first one, but Obama and his bunch do to force his and Pelosi's and Reid's agenda down our throats.
Get rid of them, Congress. The "czars" are usurping your authority, and you're collectively sitting on your hands letting it happen!
Once we had VAN JOHNSON and VAN HEFLIN.
Now we have to deal with Van Jones. What a frigging loser like all the Obama hangers-on. Show that dil the door.
I'd vote for "The Best Years of Our Lives" as his best, though I really do love him in "Laura". I don't recall any comedy films, though "State Fair" was light-hearted. Well…there was "Hot Rods to Hell"….
Somebody has to make up zero's mind for him.

I just wanted to say how much I love Big Hollywood and my fellow users who comment. Ya'll are awesome!
I was reading an article on CNN website (I know, I know, but I really do like to see views from both sides) where it mentioned that "activists" toppled a couple of radio towers in WA. They were referring to ELF, the Earth Liberation Front. Why does CNN bother with the word "activist"? Why don't they call them for what they are: terrorists!

Heading to a national park this holiday weekend? As I reported before, if you go to the right one, you may have the privilege of using a million-dollar outhouse.
In Pennsylvania, the National Park Service built a one-seater outhouse that looks more like a chalet than a toilet.
When the government spends your money, they decide local slate isn't good enough. The slate must be imported from Vermont.
They must use flower seed that costs $700 a pound. The outhouse must have windows and a porch. Why does an outhouse need a porch? And of course, the paint must be epoxy that costs $78 a gallon.
When the smoke cleared, more than $780,000 had been spent to build the outhouse. How did they spend that much? Well, bureaucracy costs money.
It took more than a dozen Park Service engineers and architects two years to design the outhouse. That cost over $100,000. Then to oversee the project, a supervisor from Denver lived onsite in Pennsylvania for about a year. That cost another $80,000.
Then they had to get environmental approvals and meet all government construction rules. That meant hiring minority-owned firms; size requirements mandated by the Americans With Disabilities Act; and paying union-like construction wages. It adds up.
And it gets worse. In Montana, the Park Service has built a four-hole outhouse. The cost: One million dollars. Give me a break.
My very favorite scene from "The Best Years of Our Lives".
The "aircraft grave yard" scene with Dana.
I get all misty eyed every time I see it. Wonderful footage.

Thank you to all of our WWII vets for our freedom.

Hey everyone the IRS will become Barry’s healthcare enforcer, hmmm… I wonder if this is Barry’s citizen army he has referred to, hmmm… Well no worries everyone our Barry loves us so much, …we must remember the government is only here to help …yak.
Don't hold your breath waiting for that,Obama/Kennedy care care would not cover the rehab

Given a choice of BEST YEARS and LAURA to watch over and over again, for me, LAURA wins out w/o any question.
BEST YEARS is a fine film and everyone in it does a masterful job and i enjoy it when ever I see it.
Yeah – STATE FAIR – Years since i saw that. Does he have any songs? Dubbed?
HOT RODS – oh, brother. Films like that exist only for actors who need to act and get paid for doing it.
Dana Andrews – Comedy – Never thought of it until this moment, but he does get some snappy/witty/clever lines of dialog in LAURA…quite a few, really, for a taciturn detective. Yet another angle in a fabulous film.
Because it would upset "O" to call non republicans terrorist
Hahaha – and we still have Van Williams from 60s TV's THE GREEN HORNET
AND
Van Alexander, the 30s and 40s bandleader and composer.
5 Vans and only one clunker. Scrap him!
Oh yeah, Barry’s a Marxist first and foremost, he’s always working on the hive.
Here is what I am living with
On the last day that anyone interested in becoming Atlanta’s next mayor had to officially get in the race, a new poll is showing that Mary Norwood and Lisa Borders are emerging as the women to beat.
From a media standpoint, last week was a good one for Norwood and Borders, who both saw a boost in their numbers after being the primary targets of a controversial memo calling for a black mayor came out.
The memo called for the defeat of Norwood, who is white, while suggesting an endorsement of Borders.
All of the major candidates denounced the memo, issued by the Black Leadership Forum and written by two Clark Atlanta University professors, as racist.
“(Borders and Norwood) won the battle of free media,” Towery said. “People are now starting to pay more attention to the race.”
Towery said Norwood’s support among whites is 58 percent. Among blacks, it is 35 percent, which Towery expects to go down.
“This race will tighten up,” Towery said.

"A new high-tech Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Racism. And parents too dumb to raise their children. "

Video: Constituent lectures Congressman on executive power
Give Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) some credit for actually appearing before his constituents to answer their questions — and then promptly take a little away for a ridiculous attempt to pass off Barack Obama’s 31 czars as somehow less of an executive-branch overreach than warrantless surveillance of international communications. That is what provoked the response shown here at Perriello’s meeting last weekend, in which an angry constituent lectures the Congressman on Obama’s 31 czars (and counting). The proliferation of unaccountable czars in the White House are a direct attack on the power of the legislative branch to check the executive, but Perriello seems oblivious to this:

And let us not forget Van Lingle Mungo, Brooklyn Dodgers immortal (if only for his name alone).
Forget asking why an outhouse needs a porch – though that's a good question too. Why does it need WINDOWS?
Although the end of summer is always a bittersweet experience, it does bring us yet another editorial from Topsider vagabound, T. Coddington Van Voorhees VII. Not only does the codd offer keen insight into fearless leader, he shares inciteful grooming tips for the hygenically challenged.

I don't see how this is any different from what might have taken place ten years ago. Memos like that have been circulated for years. People insist Obama has set race relations back; I don't see it. Only the naive expected a magical panacea.
hot rods to hell, a great time waster, and exploitation flick. loved it.

Haha – guy on TMZ last night offers his spontaneous opinion – "Oprah is the devil".
I agree with Oscar and immediately thought of my favorite movie, "Laura", when I saw Dana Andrews.
Geeze. Thanks for the link. That was a real eye-opener. He accuses "white people of sending pollution" down to black people, but he has a white wife? What? The black gals not good enough?
What more do we need. Obama is what he is; it is the voting population that failed to listen or to do their own research. It is no accident that he has Czars that are in his image. This remark is exactly where he is going. The university professions, most of whom have never worked a real job in their life will make sure that what she has to say is right. He needs to be impeached and the voters need be sent to their rooms without dinner after they have been stripped of their voting previliges for a year. NBC, CBS, The New York times, Washington Post wil end up going broke. I never watch them for anything. Thank God for Fox News and the internet. With out this, it is very likly that he could get away with his plan and the people who are behind him.
I for one am through with political correctness. The whole government is filled with incompents…afffirmative action. Our schools are terrible because they have are teaching to the lowest common demoninator.
Wake Up or move to Australia.
Van Jones, your 15 minutes are up. Get out.
My favorite Dana Andrews movie has to be "The Best Years of Our Lives". His portrayal of the unlucky-in-love airman was heartrending and real. I can't think of any modern day actor who could play that role as realistically as Mr. Andrews. Great film all around. I watch it at least once a year.
Alec, I'll take "cop outs" for $400!
My mom is a teacher of fifth graders, and her principal said that the students would be on special recess during the time of the speech, therefor missing it. If they want to see it, they can catch it on the evening news when they get home.
Mom agreed wholeheartedly.
You've got to love it when for two days the mainstream media was silent about Obama's speech to the kids. Then when the White House decides to walk it back to just a "stay in school" message, because they once again miscalculated and found out that parents were upset, the lefties come out.
MSNBC's Ed Shultz calls us racists for attacking Obama just for wanting to say hi to the kiddies. ED? Where in the heck were you the two days before when Hannity, Laura, Beck and all of talk radio were on it when you and your MSNBC buddies were stuck on putting Glenn Beck in a mental home!
If Obama's message is "stay in school", "do your best", "mind your teachers" among other stuff, I'll be thrilled. But with Obama it's always the devil in the details.
Which one? Harvey Levin or the long haired Max.
Thank goodness for teachers like your Mom. We have Nickelodeon on here, and I just saw a commercial for the speech on THAT, for Pete's sake. So, yes, they will have plenty of opportunity to hear the speech ff they want to (for those who are "inspired" by him" <cough>
I'd vote Best Years of Our Lives- my favorite all-time flick—-period.
I thought the scene in the scrap bomber showed more PTSD than any movie ever made. The viewer saw it all through the beads of sweat on his forehead. A great performance.
The Best Years of Our Lives is in my top 5 favorite movies, and Dana Andrews as "Fred Derry" was my favorite character in the movie. His character gets pretty much crapped on by one and all throughout the whole movie, so its the scene where his father is reading the citation for bravery that accompanied his "Distinguished Flying Cross" that chokes me up. His loyalty to "Homer" that costs him his job and his "doing the right thing" with regards to "Peggy" show his integrity and his character as the strongest of the bunch…awesome flick and superb performances by all. Alas, the Golden Years of Hollywood.
Well, I spoke to my kid's principal, and he copped an attitude with me. "What makes this such a hot button topic?" I thought, "Have you been in a cave?" I told him that my family doesn't consider Obama a role model, and I don't think my kid should have to sit through an indoctrination speech given by him, because we cut him off at home. Then, he told me he's leaving it up to each teacher. If the teacher decides to show it, the kids have to sit through it. No option out. No plans for a place for the kids to go who don't want to watch. So, my kid will be at home on Tuesday. I don't need Obama to tell my kid ANYTHING. And the sheer ARROGANCE of the administration to set up "lesson plans" for the teachers. Unfrickin' real!
I wouldn't be that thrilled, mom says most of her kids are politically stupid. I told her, those are the ones Obama is looking for.
Thanks!
I've probably seen LAURA 50 times in my life so far. Never grows old, so much to see, fabulous characterizations – Clifton Webb, Judith Anderson, Vincent Price, the delicious Gene Tierney in that scrumptious hat (I dont care nothing about ladies hats, but…that hat!!) Even Bessie the Maid is memorable. (BTW – That actress was a personal friend of Dana Andrews b/c she and DA's wife used to be roomies in their early days in show biz.)
And Dana Andrews predates James Stewart in VERTIGO as a detective obsessed with a dead woman. Never thought of that until now.
There is a lot in between the lines in LAURA that you either catch or dont catch…and there is stuff they side step such as the very big difference in age between LAURA and Waldo Lydecker which doesn't seem to hinder their relationship. So much more. Otto Preminger loved to dabble in sex in his films.
Thank goodness for teachers like your Mom. We have Nickelodeon on here, and I just saw a commercial for the speech on THAT, for Pete's sake. So, yes, they will have plenty of opportunity to hear the speech if they want to (for those who are "inspired" by him. <gag>
Well, while we're talking about euphemisms. I object to the term "homicide bombers" for the same reason that I objected to the term suicide bombers. The terms describe tactics not what they are. They are terrorists, pure and simple. "Homicide bombers" is a stupid term because it's obvious that all terrorists want to kill other people, even themselves, hence the origin of the term "suicide bombers". Some terrorists don't want themselves to be hurt, these are the type that uses IEDs and the like. Jeez, we don't nuance them into "IED bombers". Terrorists use all kind of tactics, kidnappings, assassinations, beheading, flying planes into the buildings (911) and more but they are just terrorists. They need to be hunted downed and killed and if we catch any of them alive, no amount of "enhanced interrogation techniques" is too much or too inhumane for these scums of the earth, the terrorists.
LOVE Dana Andrews –
he did do a bit of comedy with Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper in "Ball of Fire."
I LOVE "Hot Rods To Hell." It's so corny that it's great. Good call Tom!!!
I agree with NavyMom I feel "The Best Years of Our Lives" was Dana Andrews best but "Laura" (with that haunting song) is a very close second.
A handsome man and an astonding actor in my book.
I feel the same way! What a great film! Dana, Frederick March, Myrna Loy! Everybody great. Okay, Teresa Wright was a little dramatic, but still a classic!
Dana Andrews . . .comedy . . . Ball of Fire
