Their is an awakening in America that is going on from Carrie's situation to the over all concern about all American rights in general. The Bill of Rights is under fire and so is theConstitution in general. We are beginning to realize we have to take our country back. From Town Hall meetings and Tea Parties we see that change. This is a great country but sometimes we will have to rise up and protect the flag. The founding fathers knew this and gave us the format of government to make this possible. Carrie is a patriot and deserves our support .

Miss Prejean did not libel the organizers, she did not claim they were narrow-minded, bigoted or opportunistic. She says they breached their contract with her and libelled her. Now she is asking (reread that – asking) a court to adjudicate. The only issue of free speech is contained in her allegation that she was fired for what she said. Did you notice the gracious reaction of Mr. Perez Hilton — a veritable paragon of moderation, he!

So you didn't like what she said. And your response is to attack her and not her ideas. I think your comment was indicative of a lack of thought and a misunderstanding of what free speech is. Everyone seems to think we have a right to free speech under all circumstances. WE DON'T. The constitution only protects us from the GOVERNMENT from interfering with our rights to speak.

A company, our boss, a TV station, etc can limit what's said by their employees on or on their property (or at their pageant) at any time. If they don't like what she says, they can fire her. She had the right to say it, but she's not immune from the consequences. If her employer (the pageant officials) don't like it, they can fire her.

Its amazing how many people actually believe we have the right to free speech under all circumstances. Only the government is prohibited from censoring.

This is not a left or right issue, this is a free speech issue. If she didn't break the confines of her contract, this was an unjust firing. Court is where that needs to be decided, good for her for initiating it.

The Prop vote in California, which voted gay marriage down, was the proper way of handling the issue, let the people decide. I suspect that if you held such votes in other gay marriage states, you would get the same result. We need to go back to majority rule.

Prejean was attacked publicly for things she never said or implied, then the people she worked for publicly said they were trying to fire her, then they released private information about her, then they did fire her (and then released more private information). Actually, she didn't pose nude. There were pics taken of her discreetly covering herself during a photoshoot, but the more revealing ones were actually taken without her knowledge and released by the photographer after the controversy became heated. If you'd like to see one of their pageant winner's nude, check out the winner last year, who did a topless spread in Maxim before her current title was up (and the fact that the pageant promoted her pictorial). You see, it's only bad when someone you don't like does it.

I am in favor of free speech and thought it was rather brave of her to uphold her beliefs on a national stage.

But the clear fact is, she failed to uphold her contracts as Miss California! She did her own thing even though she is clearly bound by the Miss USA pageant rules. And for someone with such devout religious beliefs, she didn't even disclose that she had posed nude and partially nude professionally (something she failed to disclose to Miss USA even though it is a clear violation of their rules).

This isn't an issue of religious discrimination. People, don't side with someone just because you think she is a saint, bigoted, etc etc., she just failed to fulfill her contract. That's also why Donald Trump made the ultimate decision to "fire her" AFTER a fair warning. She's just an attention whore crusading under self righteousness.

Perhaps you should have read my comments a bit more closely . . . I did not make any statements that said God has (or has not) defined a valid relationship. I have read the Bible (and thank you for your invitation to do so) and I am familiar with what it states.

What I did say was that I personally don't think any being BUT the good Lord has the right to define what is a valid relationship and what isn't. It seems as if you took a pretty big jump and assumed I was disagreeing with the Bible.

For the record, I happen to agree with the more traditional definition of marriage. It's my belief and my opinion. I'm grateful I have the right to express it.

No. They are the most watched (by far) of the cable networks. The mainstream networks (NBC< CBS< ABC) have a much larger audience. Even though I heard that FOX News Cable out did Katie Couric on prime time news last week. That mainstream media has a big effect on the young and those not too informed on politics and are led by their reporting of the news. Look how they condemned Bush for eight years resulting in getting a democrat congress in 2006 and a democrat president now. Finally these people are beginning to see what a mistake they made and how the media led them along the charismatic speaker that Obama spewed.

Her contract and the reasons the pageant has cited for firing her have been published a number of times (at least a half-dozen here on Big Hollywood). Lewis claims she was turning down too many public events, but the events he sent her included a Playboy photo shoot (which would have been a breach of her contract to accept). It's possible that a court could find her case doesn't have merit, but I've heard from both sides and it doesn't appear that the pageant has a leg to stand on. It doesn't help their case that the people running it publicly attacked her for her beliefs, and one of them quit because of Trump's refusal to fire her, only to rejoin immediately after she was fired.

Their public posture has been that they don't like Prejean because of what she believes, and have made numerous statements to that effect. Good luck trying to explain that in a court of law.

They are claiming that Prejean was fired only for not doing "enough" events (even though there is no specific number required in her contract). All Prejean's legal team has to do is show one contestant at any time (present or past) who did the same number of events, but wasn't fired, and she wins her case (although since it's a court of law, a judge could require more or even less proof).

Let's be honest. She was fired because the people that run the California organization hated what she said about gay marriage. That would be tough to prove, but we all know it's true. You can read any article quoting Moaklar or Lewis and see them say it (sometimes in those exact words). They tried to get her fired for several different reasons, until they found one that stuck. It's going to be really difficult for them to defend their public statements and contradictory claims.

First, "separation of church and state" simply means that both entities have different functions. Your point about my opening statement is a good one – while I knew what I was saying it wasn't very clear and I shouldn't have assumed others would understand.

I'll try to clarify the last paragraph response to Zedek: As I've looked at the other comments, it seems as if many people are angrily stating their opinions while seeming as if anyone who does not agree with them is somehow a horrible person for having a differing opinion.

I just feel that none of us is perfect – we all wrong at times and we're all flawed. I wish we could exchange ideas without being so judgemental and unkind of the opinions of others.

I'm someone who wishes the Dems would investigate Bush & Cheney….just so they would finally shut up about, "Bush broke the law." It's too common in politics for them to throw around accusations to whip up their base (both sides), only to never proceed (either because they know they'd lose, or because they need the permanent boogeyman to help their campaigns).

How can Carrie Prejean claim that she was fired for her views on same-sex marriage when Tami Farrell, the contestant who replaced Carrie Prejean as Miss California USA, also does not support same-sex marriage?

Funny….I was unaware that marriage was a "right." Could you please find the passage in the Constitution where it spells that out and let us know? Last time I checked, it was a privilege that required people to have State-sanctioned licenses (like driving), and people could be denied for a number of reasons. How do you explain people who never meet the right person? Are their "rights" being denied?

I wouldn't mind debating the point if people on the Left weren't so unbelievably uninformed on the issues. As someone who isn't against gay marriage, I should be easy to convince to be in favor of it, but people like you make me want to stay on the fence. You can't make a cogent argument, so you call people names. Maybe nobody ever told you, but that's a pretty crappy way to make your case.

She had her free speech; no one silenced her; there's a conflating of two issues: did she have her free speech? YES. Did the company who hired her have issue with her contract related to her schedule? YES. Even if they did have an issue with her statement & fired her – too bad. If a Christian organization hired a woman who agreed that she would adhere to their standards & values, then went and got an abortion, they'd have every right to fire her. Oh, that's right – that did happen, in New York City and it was their prerogative to get rid of her. Either you uphold freedom & free speech or you are about control – which side are you on?

What could be more qu*eer than having one be a judge at a beauty pageant? The homosexual standard in feminine beauty is the twelve-year-old boy.

She was fired because she failed to live up to her contractual obligations. Give me a break please Trump even gave her a second chance after missing a lot of the obligations and she failed a second time. I have no problem with freedom of speech. She has every right to show that she doesn't know how to articulate an answer a question. She does not however have the right to expect people to keep her at a job when she dicides to abrogate the responsibilities of that job. She was a participant on a beuaty pageant that was seen on national TV. She gave interviews and disclosed private facts herself. What about the freedom of speech for the people that do support gay marriage and don't like it when holier than though bigots try to force their opinions down others throats. To be honest even if I were religious and ultra conservative and believed in her views I would not like to have her as my spokesman. I prefer people that can actually articulate their opinions without sounding like airheads.
