Did You Hear About the Morgans Trashing Sarah Palin?
by Big Hollywood
–
This month’s Exhibit P proving Hollywood’s no longer money-driven.
Nearly 60 million Americans wanted Sarah Palin for their Vice President, including most of Middle-America. These voters are the folks this holiday-timed studio film will kinda need in order to see some kind of profit. Sure, the sophisticates will ask us to take a joke but after everything the cruel Left has put this woman and her family through, no matter how good-natured the presentation, another Palin-as-yokel joke just feels like cheap piling on — because that’s exactly what it is.
Selling your film as something it’s not and then sucker punching the audience after they’ve wasted their ten-bucks is one thing, but to intentionally get ideological and divisive in the actual advertising only proves that everyone involved is much more interested in cocktail party backslaps than actual profits.
The Great Christian Toto weighs in:
What’s intriguing about the inclusion of the Palin reference is how it flies in the face of conventional movie marketing wisdom. Today’s films are thoroughly screened and analyzed for maximum profit potential, with material that might offend one group or another often scrubbed to avoid problems.
It’s a savvy way to please as many consumers as possible.
But including a line about a current politician seems to work against that spirit. It’s potentially alienating – making the left chortle while instigating the right. Why annoy roughly half the movie going public if you don’t have to?
Furthering the stereotype takes precedent. With few exceptions, and just like their counterparts in the mainstream media, Hollywood’s devolved into just another branch of the Democrat Party … and the only thing suffering more than the customer is the quality of the product.

Why is anyone at all surprised by this? Hollywood proved that ideology trumps cash by making anti-Iraq war film after anti-Iraq war film even though they made less money than Michael Moore spends hygiene products.
cheap and typical of Hollywood…is it just me or does any other non-Bwarney Fwanker here have a hard time deciding if S.J. Parker is good looking or not? Lighting? Costume? Make-up? Facial structure? Can't figure her out…
it's actually kind of funny…
And not necessarily trashing her- she is an outdoorsy type and a hunter as well, so to clueless New Yawkers in the Witless Protection Program she would stir that memory.
Still, it is open season on the poor dear, and one suspects she'll just continue to become stronger in spite of it.
The more she is attacked the higher her approval ratings go- have you noticed lately that even on skewed AOL polls she's getting over 50% approval… and her 'Death Panel' comment rocked the nation and caused a major upheaval in the Dem's plans.
The lovely lady isn't going away, folks- and the more they demonize her the better she looks…
Why annoy roughly half the movie going public if you don’t have to?
Mission Accomplished!
*strikes from moviegoing list*
I don't see what the problem is… I am a Palin supporter, from the short part I saw, the woman who chambered the round looked like she was comfortable with it and knew what she was doing (which would be Palin) and by the looks of the two main stars, they are the city dolts, not the rural woman they were referring to.
Could being referred to as Palin actually mean competent, powerful, confident and relaxed (that's what the woman looked like)…..
gee, I'm all for it.
I know, I know, this is the fourth or fifth time I have said this. Do not give your money to people who will take it, laughing all the way to the bank and then use your money against you.
BTW…in the horseback scene, shouldn't Grant be riding Parker?
Wiiiiiiilllbuuurrrr!!!
I'm not sure if it is all that bad. I say that from only seeing the trailer obviously but it looks like at least initially the two main characters are not all that sympathetic and it also appears that their trip to "fly over country" might be what turns them around. Steemburgen (sp?) actually looks to be a positive force but I understand the immediate visceral reaction after months of hearing "jokes" about Sarah Palin. I've already decided not to see Julie and Julia (which was a huge disappointment for me) because of all the republican slams so if I find that I was being a little too optimistic after finding out more, it will be another one I'll miss.
The movie looks terrible….
"These voters are the folks this holiday-timed studio film will kinda need in order to see some kind of profit."
And what holiday is this movie release supposed to coincide with? Arbor day?
I am not saying Sarah Jessica is not good looking but if they ever remake The Wizard of Oz she might be able to play the Margaret Hamilton role without needing too much makeup….well certainly no prosthetics.
As gratuitous and weak as the Sarah Palin line was, it was funnier than the rest of the alleged jokes in the trailer. What a dreadful movie this must be, about two characters I already don't care about, played by two tremendously unlikeable "stars". Had they cast Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander, I'd at least watch it for free on cable in 5 yrs.
Ick.
Not sure where the big surprise is. Hugh Grant is a very public lefty, and including this in the trailer has effectively given the movie some extra publicity. Until today, I have never heard of this film.
you may not always be right, but I believe you certainly are right here. She had a pretty good bod in her role way back when in a Bruce Willis Pittsburgh river patrol movie, but facially . . . not so much. I guess this is just one more reason to flip her the bird
It seems the only opinion that Hollywood's cares to hear from is Hollywood's.
I have to confess I do find her attractive (but I still laugh at the horse jokes). I think she's hottest in Ed Wood but I don't know if that has to do with the film being in black and white or not. Who knows?
Although I doubt that's how they meant it, it's a good take on it. I'm sure they meant something like hick.
I have to admit I do find her attractive (but I still laugh at the horse jokes). I think she's hottest in Ed Wood but I don't know if that has to do with the film being in black and white or not. Who knows?
He's a lefty, but he makes sure his hookers are righties!
Sarah Palin is and always shall be a punch line. It's all that she can intellecutually aspire to.
Obama and Biden are trying very hard to take her place. I'm sure you're much smarter than her anyway. We'll just give you that.
Let this these Far -Lefty Hollyweird Donkeys laugh and take their cheap shots at Sarah Palin while they can. All I know is that every time she says something their eyes get the size of saucer plates and the sweat breaks out on the back of their necks. Every barb of Palin's is another nail in the coffin of Obamunism.
I've been reading Orwell's '1984'. In it, the party faithful at the Ministry of Truth hold a daily Two Minute Hate during which the brainwashed can experience a catharsis of rage against the party's enemy.
The left in this country have been experiencing their Two Minute Hate against Sarah Palin for almost a year now.
They must have deep reserves.
Come on, people. That was a harmless joke. I love Sarah Palin. I would vote for her again. But if this harmless joke can bend your nose out of joint, you have no sense of humor. That bit of a scene they show us is hilarious. And more than that, the movie looks great.
They say they don't care, but their actions seem to speak volumes. They were so concerned that a successful governor wasn't vetted by McCain. Yet their guy, Obama, had less experience than her and my local dog catcher. Now from what we see, his inexperience and arrogance is showing. I can see him as a one termer. But don't tell the liberals, his poll numbers are sinking fast.
really you all should get a life. It's a joke. Google "sense ofhumor" and see if you can buy one someplace.
I'm going to give this one a pass. It was a light enough joke, and it was as much on them as Palin.
On the plus side it at least looks like this movie may be about a "sophisticated" urban couple trying (and suceeding?) to work it out and stay together. If that's how the story plays it's actually a good family message as opposed to the usual divorce as a badge of honor stuff Hollywood usually does.
Way to spell smart guy, you have the right to criticize her for her lack of smarts when you accomplish more than she has. Get going, become a govenor and be a VP nominee, 'Til then shut up.
The trailer makes everything a little out of context, but based on it alone, the Sarah Palin comment made me laugh because the city-slicker (liberal?) girl looked like she was about to wet her pants. It said more about the Mrs Morgan character than the woman toting the gun, I thought, and even possibly something about liberals depending on the context in the film. I thought telling the bear his wife was a member of PETA could possibly be taken as a dig at PETA too. The bear trying to eat you doesn't really care what club you're a member of right? It seems like the film could go either way to me.
Are you making fun of this highly intellecutuallitcally person?
Are you making fun of this highly intellecutuallitcall person?
I think the Sarah Palin comment only serves to emphasize how out of place this douchey urban woman is in Wyoming, and how much she looks down on the locals. Also emphasizes how super un-funny she is. Does she have a personality? I can't tell from the trailer! I did like the part where she runs after the horse. I could be into a movie about pampered stuck up lefty city folk getting their asses kicked by wildlife.
If they'd tried, the producers of this movie couldn't have picked a woman more obnoxious, unlikeable and irritating that Sarah Jessica Parker. It utterly strains credulity that any sane man would want this disgusting woman in their life. I don't need a gratuitous swipe at Palin to make me not want to see this film – the fact that Hugh Grant spends the entire movie trying to romance her makes this film a flop from the get go.
The ONLY way this film would have been believable would have been if it was a new version of 'Ruthless People' – i.e., everyone trying to kill Sarah. Hugh could then salvage his reputation by offering to draw a bull's eye on her chest for them to aim at.
This coming from the genius who ends his sentence with a proposition? Hate to pontificate but if you choose to stand in judgment of another's intellectual capacity you kinda leave yourself open to reproach.
Check that…Preposition. See what I mean?
I just finished reading 1984, and every time that phrase came up all I could picture in my mind is the many times the leftists yelled and threw things when someone like Ann Coulter or Tom Tancredo tried to speak.
Their insides and their hearts are filled with so much hatred, no wonder they are so miserable all the time.
I was going to buy one from a leftist comedian who makes jokes about Obama, but they don't exist.
So then it's true to life for your common Hollywood elite?
So then it's true to life for your common Hollywood or liberal elite?
And how many years has it been since you've been able to think for yourself?
Yeah, Palin made some mistakes. But, seriously… Joe Biden? Was the media giving him a pass an example of journalistic malfeasance, or simply incompetence?
I've ended lots of sentences with propositions. Unfortunately, I usually end up going home alone anyway.
I thought I was the only one, I told my wife if I hadn't seen her grow up in front of me I would guess her to be a man in womens gear. I don't see the attraction.
I thought she was pretty hot in LA Story, but she was playing someone bubbly.
Why does this not bother me? I'm a HUGE fan of Sarah, and thought it was a fairly humorous reference. Don't you think Sarah would think it was funny, too?
The two dolts are obviously the Morgans, who are incapable of handling their lives in an adult fashion. In this movie, the joke is on them IMHO.
That's different. The press was in cahoots to get him elected. They've got a lot at stake.
I DO hope that is how the story plays out.
I love movies with great marriages!
Loved Marley And Me for that reason.
The thing I loved best about Spanglish was that they DID NOT have an affair.
And I was so happy that Helen Whatshername stayed with her husband at the end of Cast Away.
They keep telling us how stupid she is, etc. So I'm thinking these whiney liberals (I know it's redundant) are just looking out for us. They really do care for us and it's not just a bumper sticker like always thought it was.
Do straight men even find Sarah Jessica Parker attractive?
She looks like a real life version of Picasso's "Dora Maar au Chat"
She was cute in Square Pegs and adorable in LA Story but somewhere after Ed Wood she went full crypt-keeper.
I'm confused by her, I don't know…generally liked her in "S I T City".
I agree with you, James. It could also be taken as a compliment, even though I am pretty sure that was not the way it was meant.
If you close your eyes and just listen to Hugh Grant, he is George Wade from Two Weeks Notice.
(Which, by-the-way, is my all-time favorite movie in the history of movies!)
Same exact clipped British wit. But wait, he's pretty much the same character in every role he plays.
That aside, I tend to agree that the joke is as much on the dim city girl as it is on my Sarah.
I'll wait 'till it comes out on DVD, but will definitely rent it.
Now that was funny!!!
yeah, she's stupid all right-
so stupid she went from Homecoming queen to college to city council to state oil commission to governorship to VP candidate to America's conservative sweetheart and THE mover and shaker in conservative political circles…
yep, pretty, yes. Stupid, no…
All I know is that I would love to lick her teeth!
Guest,
You sir, are a gentleman (or a lady, as the case may be).
Spot-on.
I love Sarah (her bumper sticker adorns our family SUV) but didn't she kinda-sorta endorse this characature during her SNL appearance on the 'news' segment w/Amy Poehler & Seth whatshisname?
My sentiments exactly. Good job!
Now that i seen the trailer, instead of wasting $10 bucks on this I'll be sending it to Sarah PAC.
I have to come down on the side of "it's just a joke – don't get too offended" on this one. Remember Reagan? There was a man who could laugh at what the left found objectionable about him ("They say age is a consideration in this election – I'm willing to accept that my opponent is too young" or something like that).). I know Palin has been raked over the coals along with her family and I don't forgive the libs for one second for doing that, but I think this reference is much more benign, and really typifies what a lib woman would say about a competent woman carrying a gun. I'll give SJP a pass, and recommend my wife see the movie.

I just don't see the trashing part, sorry. I love Sarah and I thought it was funny – it calls to mind her strength and pioneer spirit… and the fact that she can control a firearm makes her in charge of her own destiny, unlike the bumbling Morgans.
If we cry foul every time her name is mentioned, we are likely to be dismissed when some real trash-talk begins. Believe me, you'll have plenty of oportunities in the future to demonstrate your fealty.
The only joke is O-Joker and he's as funny as a dead baby.
liberal sarah is jealous of the Real American's Sarah – nuff said!
All you need to do is get out your last movie with Hugh Grant, and you don’t have to bother seeing this movie. Sarah J Parker who the hell cares.
Love Palin. Not offended in the least. Appears to be the straightforward comedic device of "I am a narrow-minded judgmental snob" who is will eventually discover how great this rugged outdoor woman really is.
This movie will suck. Anything with Sarah Jessica Parker is terrible. I'm also wondering why they would put horses in a movie with her. That's funnier than any Palin joke.
I prefer to watch Shirley Temple movies on my old VHS.
I wasn't bugged by the (quick) Palin line. I am seeing that the Sarahaters have picked up on it and are giddy…
My guess is that this will be a story about two self-absorbed coastal elistists that are forced to move to a "flyover" state….where they meet REAL people with REAL values…and the two eventually evole into proper people. Perhaps the libs in Hollywood don't even read their own scripts, or look at the true meaning of their stories.
Yeah, maybe the Palin reference will sour some people on this film. What struck me is how bad this film must be if I just watched the highlights trailer. I suspect the characters of the movie could also have mocked John Wayne, mom, apple pie and the constitution. Apparently Hollywood is following the Michael Moore model of film making. Producing films that appeal to 1/3 of the country will be the end of Hollywood. Can't happen soon enough for me.
The trailer is god awful. Even worse it makes you think of that this movie is a clone of the The Proposal. Execpt with two unlikealbe leads.
I think a little discernment is in order. Did they make fun of Alaska? Did they talk trash about her family? No and no. And comparing a rural-living, gun-toting woman to Sarah Palin is probably what someone like SJP's character would do in real life anyway. Not every mention of Palin equals "trashing" her.
I do however agree with Mr. Toto. I never would've put the line in the trailer. It does take you out of the moment, and that would be the case whether it was Palin or Biden or Obama.
In what universe is this news? A public figure was referenced in a movie. So what? People are so desperate to make that half wit beauty queen relevant that they will do anything to extend her 15 minutes of fame. I almost wrote that the journalist that reported this should be ashamed but then again this was no journalist. This was yet another tabloid writer trying to score a quick buck with some dribble boiled down to an easy to read snipped for the ever growing mass of imbeciles that make up this country. God this just shows how badly we need to fix our education system.
You don't understand. Parker has huge cred with women. This movie will most likely be seen Trashing Sarah will undermine her with women, her most vulnerable group.
For a "half wit" she sure is owning teh Messiah with her humble Facebook entries.
And you are right. Your writing certainly does demonstrate how badly our education system has failed us.
Ya I know, it's tough you all…I think she's a hottie enigma wrapped in a riddle stuck in a quagmire…I liked her in "Sex in the City"…and in the movie (which I er, umm, saw WITH the g.friend) but dang sometimes I don't know…hmmmm…she was cute in "Footloose" but that was back in the Jurrasic period.
Obama and Biden are trying very hard to take her place. I'm sure you're much smarter than her anyway. We'll just give you that. But that's what we'd expect from the troll of the day. A snide remark with no basis in fact. I wouldn't expect anything less.
They say they don't care, but their actions seem to speak volumes. They were so concerned that a successful governor wasn't vetted by McCain. Yet their guy, Obama, had less experience than her and my local dog catcher. And he was running on the top of the ticket. They were more concerned with the VP on our ticket. Because they still know she's a threat and they have a very good chance of losing to her. Now from what we see, his inexperience and arrogance is showing. I can see him as a one termer. But don't tell the liberals, his poll numbers are sinking fast.
Yeah, I mean Obama's "retard" joke on the Tonight Show was funny, wasn't it?
Although I doubt that's how they meant it, it's a good take on it. I'm sure they meant something like hick though. I truly think they feel everyone in the world is just like them. Get paid a ton of money for essentially doing nothing (on the sweat scale) and everyone drives BMW's and lives in a gated multi-million dollar house.
Well put, sir. If Back to the Future were made today and Reagan was president, I have a feeling some folks would be up in arms about the, "Ronald Reagan? The actor? Then who's vice-president – Jerry Lewis?!?!" line.
On the DVD, they mention that he loved that line.
Agreed James. Sure, it was a dumb, unnecessary joke. But, I would bet those country rubes in the movie are going to end up teaching the city slickers the true meaning of life and love.
I don't think this was anything to get worked up over (and I have no problem getting worked up to defend Palin!)
Never use a preposition to end a sentence with.
Ewww.
Now that came across as a little creepy.
"She looks like a real life version of Picasso's "Dora Maar au Chat"
Actually, straight men would have no frame of reference to even understand that comment.
But no, we do not find Sarah Jessica Parker attractive.
I think the line was, "I won't take advantage of my opponent's youth and lack of experience".
That doesn't seem like trashing Sarah to me. It was mild by Hollywood's Lefty standards. And anyway, the line seemed to say more about Parker's neurotic characer than about the well-armed "Palin" type.
James
She was voted least attractive celebrity by Maxim or something. And while I think it is stupid and childish to comment on people's appearance (we do too much of it here on BH in my opinion) I think she was most attractive in First Wive's Club (isn't that the movie where they say she looks like a horse). Beyond that I have never had much use for her.
Hilarious.
The holiday in this case would be the opening day on deer season!! Just remember, meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder. Especially with mashed potatoes and gravy. And a beer.
Halfwit is one word, like nitwit — which might be a better fit than your "Literate" handle.
Halfwit is one word, like nitwit — which might be a better fit than your "Literate" handle
I'm hoping the bear ate a few liberals during the filming of that movie. That would be a happy ending.
I miss him.
Personally, I would worry more about the White House attacking free speech than condemning this particular incident of Hollywood's free speech. I'm a huge Palin supporter and I don't believe she would object to this line. There are bigger fish to fry right now with our government trying to usurp so many of our freedoms.
The only thing that comes close to the American Bolsheviks assassination of Sarah Palin and her family is the Russian Bolsheviks' assassination of the Tsar and his family. Then, of course, times have changed. In 1913,
the only way the Bolsheviks could take out the Tsar was with bullets; today they murder with ridicule and ink.
But make no bones about it, the end is the same — totalitarian government from the Left.
To Kristi, Dodd and Cal, may I recommend " Homage to Catalina "
,
I don't think this is that big a deal. Maybe it's because I've become desensitized to this stuff. I will probably watch this movie when it's on Lifetime in 3 years.
They shouldn't show her from the side. She looks like a witch from the side.
