Brad Pitt: Mayor of New Orleans?
by Big HollywoodBrad Pitt gained much notoriety for his environmentally friendly housing project in New Orlean’s Katrina-ravaged Lower 9th Ward. Recently, a budding grassroots movement has gained momentum to elect Pitt Mayor of the city. Earlier today, Mr. Pitt sat down with TODAY’s Ann Curry and talked about the prospect of a mayoral run and what type of mayor he would be. From an an article on the TODAY website:
“If chosen, would you run?” Curry asked in the prerecorded interview that ran Thursday.“Yeah,” Pitt said.
“Would you serve?”
“Yeah. I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform,” he joked.
That comment drew a measured “OK” from Curry.
“I don’t have a chance,” Pitt predicted.
But what if he were elected. Would he take the job?
“Didn’t I just answer that?” he replied.
“No, you didn’t,” Curry persisted.
“I don’t have a chance,” he repeated.
“Because you’re not the guy?”
“That’s not what I do best,” he said, ending that line of questioning.
Pitt’s political advocacy makes him a bit harder to read than most Hollywood activists. Sure, he has Hollywood’s requisite “green” streak, but he seems to have an entrepeneureal spirit and has thus far steered clear of the dreaded “hypocrite” label.
Does this make him a viable Hollywood candidate? Perhaps even a libertarian one? Or would he be just another Hollywood lefty?

God please no.
Probably not as left as some, but left nevertheless unless Angelina continues to convert him.
It doesn't sound much like he wants it. Who could blame him? As it stands right now he has the freedom to do as much as he wants to do without getting mired down in administrative details and even more media scrutiny. I bet he stays as far away from this as he can.
On the bright side, this might put a stop to any more inane Ocean movies.
My first reaction was to roll my eyes and groan. My second reaction was to think that as bad as Pitt might be, he'd still probably be a step up from New Orlean's current mayor, Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin.
That was my thought as well.
Harry Angel would make a better mayor than that guy.
Well, I don't see how he could possibly make New Orlean's condition any worse.
Ditto.
What could Pitt do that is worse the Nagin?
Seeing how they voted for Nagin. I say vote for Pitt and let New Orleans go to waste.
I just don't care anymore.
“That’s not what I do best,”
Like that has ever stopped him. Sheesh.
He couldn't be any worse than Nagin, but then that's not saying much.
I like how even Pitt doesn't rate his chances of getting elected if he ran. The interviewer on the other hand, seems, if this is even possible, LESS connected with reality than Pitt is.
Is anyone else getting this in your state now? I've just received a "town hall" listen in for one of my Senators from Florida right now. She had just said she has read the Thousand Plus page package and believes that it will pay for itself in the not too distant future and compared it to the "wasteful spending" about a little thing called War On Dru- sorry.. Terror!
What a coward, literally hiding behind the microphone freed of actually anger from American Citizens.
Let's replace one bad actor with another.
The only thing I like about Brad is his looks.
~~~ <<<<<—–< That's me drooling. Shameless hussy I am.
couldn't be worse than it is already…….give him a shot.
Because we just don't have enough airhead politicians. Lets import some dolts from Hollywood and maybe bring in some carnival animals to ensure congress is a circus. I guess some are not satisfied with just a banana republic.
congress=New Orleans
If Pitt admits that politics are NOT "what [he] do[es] best"…then the next time he spouts off can we tell him to STFU and go back to "what he does best"?
After all, isn't that what the members of Congress are telling US to do? The "Shut Up Doctrine" in action.
Everything he said was wrong……so no….
I totally agree.
I like him staying just where he is and I have to give him major kudos for recognizing his limitation and aspirations before they effected others lives. This way he can stay under the radar and do good things.
I like this guy more and more.
Charitable work for which he requested stimulus funding.
I used to produce news for the ABC affiliate in Alexandria, LA. Anytime I would run a clip of Nagin, whether it was just video or a soundbite, my director (liberal leaning independent/Libertarian from what I could gather) would yell out 'chocolate!' Never failed to make me laugh.
Hey the guy didn't soapbox when he had the chance so I raise my glass to him !
Thanks Mr. Pitt, for turning down Curry's bait.
This guy deserves a pat on the back for his charitable works. That being said there's no way that he will come out as some conservative. Look at what happens to actors who believe in conservative values in Hollywood. A perfect example is Gary Sinise, co-founder of The Steppenwolf Theatre Company and an Oscar nominated actor who should be an A lister, but doesn't get near the roles that his obvious talent deserves.
Amen. Pitt may say silly (fashionable) things from time to time, but he doesn't make a habit of playing the sanctimonious political lecturer.
Why not Brad? Then again I think a poodle could have done a better job then the blockhead they have now. Every time I think of Katarina I really get mad. The fact that Nagin and the former Gov were never brought up on charges for their frankly criminal mishandling of that disaster and the blame was placed on Bush by a media that saw it as chance to damage him purely because they didn't like him. You wonder why we laugh at liberals who whine about Obama being treated bad.
We need more *ego maniacs* in political power. Obama and the DemocratSS need one more hack running a screwed up city. How about Clooney running Detroit?
I would have to question his management abilities, when he is building houses where there has been a major flood and most likely to flood again.
That would be a big bonus from Brad Pitt running NOLA.
Hell, Brad Pitt can't be any worse than Ray Nagin. Can he?
*sigh* I really wish Brad Pitt would grow up. What a waste of an adult man. Maturity = it's what's for breakfast.
Other than that, he's a good actor and drool-worhty.
“Yeah. I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform,” he joked.
Why do you assume he's joking?
But at that, he'd be better than that bum Nagin, racist criminal.
I can't see anything in Mr. Pitt's resume that qualifies him to operate New Orleans. I see it as just a fad idea that will pass when a legitimate candidate arises.
Well, you've got a major city 20 feet below sea level, surrounded by water on three sides, smack dab in the middle of a known major hurricane storm track, protected by earthwork dikes which were built by the Army, originally were only rated for survivability to storm category 3, and have been maintained for the last 50 years by democratic political appointeess, and the majority of the city's inhabitants are generational welfare junkies who don't own cars and sit around waiting for public transportation while a Cat 4 hurricane bears down on their pathetic butts.
What could possibly go wrong there?
Clearly, it was the federal government's job to do … something. Nobody's sure exactly what. But it was Bush's fault.
Well, since Brad's a zillionaire, at least he'll be harder to bribe than the typical Nawlins mayor.
“Yeah. I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana platform”
The No Religion platform – made popular by Enver Hoxha, Pol Pot, and Josef Stalin….
The flattery of being SUGGESTED for the job was enough for Pitt. Actual responsibilities of public office: BORING!!! (Sort of Obama's take on things, except Obama wanted the perks and deference. NOt the responsibility.)
Couldn't be any worse than "Chocolate City" Nagin but I don't think the "no religion" thing would wash in a town that's 80% Catholic and 100% voodoo.
the only one who could be worse then Ray Nagin is our dear Jennifer Granholm.
Oh, heck. Why not?
I can just see Angelina down at Piggly Wiggly shopping with her plethora of stolen children and tattoos showing through her bra-straps. Bradley comes home after a hard day of work pops open a can of beer and pulls his socks off and asks for a foot rub. They're just common folks.
we all have our guilty pleasures
that's all we need here in Michigan. A fresh injection of Smug.
I have to agree with you on this one. He's not looking to go all Al Franken on America.
I'm not sure what you're talking about… Both Florida Senators are male (Bill Nelson, and for the mean time, Mel Martinez). Unless, of course, you mean your Congresswoman, which could be Susan Kosmas, Corinne Brown or any other Dem Congressperson. My Congressman, Alan Grayson, is doing another one of his "telephone town halls" (useless) But his rep has put me on the top 50 list for addressing the "Gentleman from Florida"
I guessing Lefty because a libertarian wouldn't be in favor of taxing Pot
While commendable, Pitts work in rebuilding lower ninth ward is a complete waste of resources. He should stick to doing what he does best, acting.
I read the puff piece in Architectural Digest from Feb 09 on his efforts. He has convinced some like-minded architects to donate services to building affordable housing (houses costing $180K to $200K, which if that is the benchmark for affordable, is ascary) that have escape hatches built in the attics to enable people to get on to the roof! Why? The pictures in spread showed the nearest levy, the houses were built at lease 9 feet below the river level.
The road to hell is really paved with good intentions.
I'm…I'm so sorry DW. I had no idea you had Jennifer Braincramp for a governor.
When's Michigan's election? Hopefully soon.
He is not a Liberterian. He is a Libertine like Jesse Ventura.
Thankfully, she's termlimited out by the next one.
You can always spot a lefty by his failure to think things through.
Actually anyone would be better than Mayor Ray Nagin even Brad Pit high on Pot.
This is the complete tool who siad that we should not bother him with why hundreds of school buses were penned up in New Orleans (NO) because Greyhound should stop all Bus service and send every one of their buses to the Big Easy. He is also the guy who said the "those city engineers let the levies break" which implies to me that he was told the potential issue existed the day before when he stated NO would make it through.,
The levies break and in typical leftist fashion he blames the Bush Administration as if he expects that a bureaucrat in Washington has more responsiblity for his city than he does. Nagin is a complete disgrace and his actions make him repsonsible for the fiasco after the event.
Hey, cities below sea level is what technology is for.
And maybe what is needed is someone who thinks bigger than sticking a finger in the dike.
Don't really know much about Pitt other than the tabloids and the rumor both he and Angie are libertarian.
The quote makes me like him a little more.
And the "no religion" thing… I'm choosing to see that as a statement, like all the rest of it, that he wouldn't pretend to anything to get elected like so many people do… particularly pretending to discover an appropriate faith… nothing too intense, of course, but a profound faith.
The escape hatches to the roofs aren't that stupid. Not fool-proof but might help and likely have psychological benefit.
Wonder why the conversation that was between the President and the Governor of Louisianna several days before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans was never made public? The President told the Governor that he had troups ready to help and the Governor said she didn't want help. Not until Louisianna was submerged did she agree to let the Feds come in. Interesting that the Feds have been painted so badly in this when they were ready but bound by the Governor.
