I am up way too early. The dude in the poster looks like a vampire. These previous two statements may or may not be related.
Or wait… the preceding… not previous. Urrrrgle. Tired.
One of my all time favorite movies. I characterize this as a Scorsese movie for people who don't like Scorcese movies. The set decorations, writing and acting are all first class. A literal feast for the eyes!
Mmmm. I'm a big costume drama fan and this was not one of my favs BUT, like pizza, even a bad one is still pretty good.
Wharton was documenting an interesting time in New York. Livin' large! We all need personal maids and valets to help us dress and stuff!!!!
Well, she said she wanted to make a difference.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090808/D99UJ4B0...
She is right. Obamabots can say all they want about choice, but how else can the government keep the costs down of health care?
I don't think it can be repeated enough. The "fishy" bill before Congress is not about health care. It is about control, eugenics and euthanasia. Concepts brought to the depths of human experience in Hitler's Germany.
Just read the Bill Maher screed. It must be satire, because this guy is perhaps the stupidest cretin to come down the pike. Why do leftists in the entertainment world think condescension is equal to intelligence? So Bill Maher opened his Civics 101 textbooks and recited a few facts. Whoop-de-dang-da. I only wish that some of our conservative representatives who lower themselves to go on his asinine cable show would take this little weasel apart. Instead, the Coulters and various others just let this cowpie spout his nonsense and never give it back. I’m a nobody and I could have this self- important jackass crying in five minutes.
To continue…
Let’s read Bill’s mind and illustrate who he thinks about when he characterizes the dumb American. Here’s Bill’s scenario: A guy from the South, a beer drinker, maybe. Smoker, perhaps. Works in a garage, has a beaten down wife and two snotty kids and lives in a trailer park. This dumb fool can take apart the engine of a 57 Chevy piece by piece and put it together again. He can listen to a car backfire 5 miles away and tell you exactly what is wrong with it. What a moron, right, Bill? Let’s compare him to the brilliant self-aggrandizing third rate comedian who hosts an obscure chopperpop on a cable network to which three-fourths of the country doesn’t subscribe. This genius’ hero is a doddering old man who lives in stinky pajamas in a crumbling mansion surrounded by plastic Barbie dolls.
To continue:
Now say both these people, the redneck dumb American and the brilliant clown, are in a small raft. Society dictates one must be thrown overboard. Society weighs each individual’s ability to contribute to civilization. So who becomes flotsam on the sea of life? The guy who can fix society’s cars or the deluded cable show host who fancies himself this century’s Mark Twain?
Needless to say, Bill makes a very small splash.
"Needless to say, Bill makes a very small splash. "
Quote of the day !
Yeah, Some Dame,
and I'd like to see the movie of Maher gettin thrown off the raft! I wouldn't cover my eyes even at the glug-glug part!
Its nice that Laura Ling and Euna Lee were released by the North Koreans, but what of the tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) who really did get sent to the gulags? Who speaks for them?
Good point!!
Certainly not THIS administration. Good thing one of them worked for Al Gore; otherwise, they'd still be there!
Look for Iran to threaten the hostages soon (those goofy kids who had been hiking in Iraq) in a bid to get concessions form the U.S. Obama will fold like a lawn chair.
I would really hope the cameras would be rolling when old Zuchini Nose starts pleading, "Please, God, save me!" Ironic, huh, Mr. Religulous?
Who paid for their release? Did I? Did you? If they were stupid enough to go, I want to know who paid to schlep them home?
Sarah Palin tells it like it is, the elderly, the sick and the disabled will suffer greatly under this socialized health plan, It is EVIL and needs to be defeated soundly. Socialized Health Care is a lose lose for everyone, always has been always will be!!!!!!!!!

Who just wanders around the border of China and North Korea for a lark? Everybody knows that larks haven't been seen there in ages. (thanks, Groucho).
After giving it a lot of thought….I think Bill Maher is on to something. This country is dumb! After all, there are some people who think that Austrians speak Austrian. And there is the geographically challenged who think the US has 57 states. And what about the great unwashed who know nothing about history and think that Hirohito himself signed the terms of surrender on board the USS Missouri? You know, Bill, you do have a point and I commend…
…hey, wait a minute…
Congress and the jets…with no disrespect to Elton John:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12496040473021295...
The price tag was 500 million, now it's 550. Man, the stones on these people just blows my friggin' mind.
And they were the ones who complained that the busy CEO's of GM and Chrysler flew on jets to a meeting at Washington DC!!!
Great underrated Scorsese film with Daniel Day-Lewis (the best actor in the world) being understated yet just as intense as usual.
"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened."
–Joe Biden
I'm sure this little gem just slipped Billy Boy's oh-so brilliant mind when he was writing his homework assignment over @ HuffPo.
It is only half the story
The cost to Maintain the planes and the crews that go with them
This after they tell private companies that they can't
Can The POTUS be recalled ?
Or only Impeached ?
"After giving it a lot of thought….I think Bill Maher is on to something. This country is dumb! After all, "
They elected Hussein Obama
It reminds me of this book I have called Non Campus Mentis: World History According to College Students. It's one of the funniest books I've ever read and is full of bon mots like Biden's gaffe.

For Dems, a new public enemy No. 1
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is outspoken, conservative, media-friendly — and for many in the Democratic Party, a new public enemy No. 1.
Now that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is out of office, there are few Republican officials in the country Democrats would rather unseat in 2010 than Bachmann, a two-term congresswoman with a habit of pushing the buttons of liberals on everything from ACORN to global warming to even whether President Barack Obama is, as she once asked, "anti-American."
"She's definitely somewhere up there," Bachmann chief of staff Michelle Martson said of where the Minnesota congresswoman sits on the Democratic campaign hit-list.

I love the works of Wharton, Scorsese, and Day-Lewis so this movie was right up my alley. The narration by Joanne Woodward was especially memorable. It's kind of a shame it didn't receive more attention, but this came out in 1993 and there were a lot of exceptional movies released that year.
I love Michelle Bachman. She absolutely has to run for the Senate to knock out Stuart Smalley.
Hey have you seen her Gangster Government video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thR-lVuztIY
Damn right the truth hurts. What do people think Nazis were — The National Socialist Worker's Party. That sounds pretty familiar.
The Demon-crats are deploying SEIU and ACORN thugs to shut up our protests, the White House is asking civilians to inform on others, Obama said he wants to create a "civilian security force", he said our Constitution is flawed because it doesn't account for wealth redistribution, and were NOT supposed to think of Nazis????
as much as we hate to admit it- that our countrymen would do this to us-
We agree…
It's such a nice day here in New England I have decided not to talk politics and ruin my day.
Enjoy yourself. My wife and I had our first visit to Maine last October. Beautiful place. Cape Elizabeth, Rockport, great towns. Met some really nice people. I miss New England, especially Cape Cod.
Although in fairness, it is a beautiful day here in the LA area.
NoW I am MAD! Steeling from our TROOPS so congress can burn more CO2
WASHINGTON — The House's bid to buy new executive jets on the Pentagon's budget has broadened a conflict between Congress and the administration over defense priorities.
"It forces us to take money from things we do need to fund and redirect it for things we don't need," Geoff Morrell, a spokesman for Defense Secretary Robert Gates, said Friday. "And in a time of war, we just can't afford that."
Lawmakers' move to upgrade the fleet of government jets — used for travel by lawmakers and other senior government officials — is just one of more than 1,000 spending projects lawmakers added to the Pentagon's budget for next year that weren't requested by President Barack Obama.

A comment from a reader of NY Times article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/08/us/politics/08t...
"As a well educated, nuanced thinking progressive New Yorker, I hope these hooligans get what they deserve, namely their cozy healthcare plans pulled out from under them. I really don't care if 45,000 health insurance jobs move out of NY. Let them move to North Carolina, Texas, Iowa, India or whatever stinking place they feel they must. And the pharmaceutical companies can go with them, to China for all I care. New York is a knowledge based economy and we don't need them. I agree with Nancy Pelosi that these well dressed brown-shirted idiots are simply trying to retake congress! As a social worker I have good benefits, but I also know many people don't. I would be willing to support a New York State income tax healthcare surcharge of 5% on salaries over $56624, adjusted for inflation, as long as it does not apply to NYS pensions. And thank heavens the SEIU is going to send some members to these meetings to stare down these fascists."

*This* letter, in my opinion, is representative of the mindset of what we are up against.
We are truly living in an Upside/Down World.
How long until a New York accent equates stupidity?
A link to some of the 'mobsters and hooligans' attending these meetings:

You said it !
I think it may be too late to save America
This Mob will trample the New Black Panthers !
I love how this person begins with the standard , "As a well educated, nuanced thinking progressive…"
and then proceeds to write like a moron.
Pay Per View. Steel Cage Death Match.
Me too.
I believe this is what you're referring to. In all fairness, there are a series of photographs, out there on the Net, which capture the incident and it wasn't a slap as much as pushing the man's face. Regardless, the woman should have kept her hands to herself.
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTIxNDI1...
No. It happened over thirty years ago.
Sorry. Not familiar with it.
I once worked for a woman who was the single most hateful person I'd ever met. She was always angry, always sarcastic, always condescending, always just plain mean. It seemed her only joy in life was to call someone stupid in front of a room full of people. She treated everyone with contempt. At first, I hated this woman, but as time went on, I just started feeling sorry for her. She was a successful businesswoman, but she was just miserable. That's how I see Bill Maher. He is filled with such venom. He's not interested in discussing opposing views because he's having too much fun calling people names because they don't agree with him. In his mind, he's enlightened and cultured, and even he is willing to sit back and let the "elite" make decisions for him. So, the rednecks in fly over country who "don't know anything" should just shut their mouths and do the same. In the end, Bill Maher is just a miserable, angry, mean little man whose only joy seems to be making fun of people so he can feel good about himself. How pathetic.
My whole point in all this, is eventually one of the humongus Union thugs will come across one of those small white-haired ladies and be totally humiliated on camera.
Our opposition better re-think the Chicago style tactics.
The only people I've seen stand up to Bill Maher in any real sense of the term were Andrew Breitbart and Christopher Hitchens.
As a well educated, nuanced thinking progressive New Yorker
This almost reminds me of all those "concerned Christian conservatives" I ran into back in 2008.
When that happens, we'll wind up getting the argument that "There were old German ladies who supported the Nazis, too."
And shazam, that article dissappeared.

Never heard of her but she plays very well on this old 1940s pop tune.
Remember, they made them DRIVE to the next meeting. How much an hour do those guys make? How much did it cost the American taxpayer for CEOs to DRIVE to DC, versus a $400 plane ticket?
http://www.breitbart.tv/obama-dont-want-the-folks...
Same attitude here as the fat blond with the big butt at the AARP meeting. It must be contagious.
Notice how Obamama has to remind himself to smile to conceal his impatience with people who irk him and trouble his agenda.
Oops. Too late, Barry. Another slip in a parade of slips and insights as to who you really are inside.
Other worldly.
They'll never understand.
Couldn't even have a beer with someone like the NY Times commenter.
LOL funny to hear the left complain about the use of the word nazi….. sort of like a dog calling a cat an "animal"
Where are all the celebrity supporters of Obama's healthcare reform ??? I would love to hear Springsteen talk about it..How about Mellencamp going on and on about reform?? Where's Whoopi and Streep telling us how women wont need to use hangers for abortions ? I'll wait for an answer.
Really good movie, except I never understood why they switched the blonde and the brunette.
But I remember liking it a lot. Wharton is great to begin with, and there've been some excellent adaptations of her work.
Highly underrated film. Three Top notch performers at the top of their game. Begs the question "Isn't Winona Ryder due for a major comeback?" Hard to believe her career is still in the stalled position – yet Julia Roberts continues to get roles!
I guess it did not take long for Wall Street Journal to comply with that White House request.
Just watched The Incredible Hulk: it's a kind of an anti-American combination of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Beauty & the Beast and The Fly.
The premise is that Bruce Banner’s uncontrollable transformation into the Hulk is a result of an American weapons program. This is a parameter that the world is eventually going to have to contend with. Ronald Reagan once warned, “The future isn’t for the faint.”
In other words, a priest-like class of scientists is evolving who quite likely won’t be accountable to the people (my issue, not necessarily Reagan’s). It is a good idea to alert every 9 to 90 year old with a fantasy/story like the Incredible Hulk to what is in our destiny
However, the villains shouldn’t be exclusively the U. S. military. That is not what every 14 year old needs carved into his world view. The early Bond films had it right: a steady diet of villains like S.P.E.C.T.R.E who are defeated via American ingenuity and values (I know Bond was English).

Stopthepresses psychics (psycho chics) using advanced crystal ball technology predicts that very shortly the used car market will be flooded with repossessed cars. Thanks to the government's Cash for Clunks program, giving money to people that otherwise could not afford to buy a new car and keep up the car payments. Another home mortgage type fiasco brought to you by the Democratic Party. Remember you hear it from our psychic chics first.
But, but… I thought Cuba was a utopia… well, at least the healthcare's free:

Yes, please send some of those 45k jobs to my "stinking place," I mean home state of N.C. We just turned into a blue state last election and need all of the jobs we can get. The liberals are not even trying to cover their real intentions now, are they?
Here is something interesting. People are also booing the GOP.

Thow him off the raft, but get rid of the bloody chicken entrails first, if you catch my drift.
I like your style!
They do run on hate, do they? Always a new enemy. Executives, cops, doctors, insurers, Rush, Joe, it never ends.
Well, I do not live in Minnesota but I did send some money to Bachmann and so can everyone else.
Right, health insurance isn´t part of the "knowledge based" economy. It´s done in sweat shops full of dangerous clanking machines.
Surely this is parody?
Nope.

I realize that the military needs cops, the MPs, but what does "resettlement" mean in this ad?
Those are much different especially in tone.
Eldon Taylor in Mind Programming reports that the scientist who invented our method of detecting an atomic test anywhere on the earth also designed a working black box that can project words and images into the minds of people. That was 30 years ago. The Feds confiscated it. The implications are staggering.

I believe this is the defining moment of Obama's regime.
Jimmy and TR, have you ever seen a small white-haired grandma type chastise an huge man?
I have. It is totally humiliating, especially when she grabbed his ear.
After a certain age, the little old ladies have no fear.
I knew too.
Which makes us two who knew.
Dr. Seuss where are you?
No matter, I'm fairly certain the NY Times will cover the story tomorrow or the next day or the day after that.
Jimmy, Cape Elizabeth and Rockport are beautiful. The Lobster Festival was last week — yuuuummmm. Actually ended up going to the NH White Mountain area today, and although it was a gorgeous, there was an undeniable tinge of autumn in the air. Hope to make it to another fine Maine area within the next week or two, to Monhegan Island. Been in Maine all my life. The scenery along the coast is as pretty as one can hope to gaze upon. Too bad the political landscape spoils it.
Never been to LA, but will be traveling the country soon and that is one place on the list.
Al Sharpton makes an intelligent comment!
Asked by TMZ what he thought of Paula Addul leaving American Idol, he replied-

Why can't he be brief, cogent and right like that all the time?
Haha.
As I mentioned, my wife and I loved Maine. Had the amazing lobster rolls @ 'Reds' What a treat.
Autumn tinge in the air…the best. Fall is my favorite time of year in NE. If you make it out this way, let me know, maybe we can connect. I'll give you the nickel tour around town.
Take care.
Also agree.

For those deluded supporters of Obamacare, I suggest they get a copy of SOYLENT GREEN and see where this craziness is taking us.
BO2 is following step by step, only faster, the template established by Il Duce Mussolini, and followed by Der Fueher, Adolph Hitler to National Socialism. I think they (Emanuel, Obama ,Axelrod) could be hoping , or planning a crisis to go for an amendment to run for a third term. His cozying up to Chavez, Ortega, Castro and other dictators spell TROUBLE.
