Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

I voted for Ferris, of course, not only because it's Classic Iconic Hughes to me, but because I enjoy watching it the most out of all of the listed films.
Having said that, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is also fantastic, and some of John Candy's best work, in my opinion. I did a scene from that movie with a friend of mine for a Drama class assignment back when we were in high school at the end of the 80s…
I had a hard time between Ferris and breakfast club. Had to go with BC cuz Judd Nelson's role was IMHO was great.
Vacation only 4%???
I like FBDO too but c'mon……Vacation is a freakin' laugh riot.
This was a tough poll! And that's how I realized that John Hughes was a huge part of my childhood. I had a tough time picking out my favorite because I love most of them. I hovered over Ferris and then picked out Vacation last minute. I'm shocked that Vacation didn't rank higher. Wally World people! God Bless him.
Hey now. Forget director/auteur theory. He created the Griswolds! Can't we put that on the list?
Tough poll, indeed. Sixteen candles.
Hey, what about "She's Having A Baby"? Underrated I think.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is my favorite. I laughed so hard throughout the movie, and then cried at the end. I also love Ferris Bueller, Home Alone and Uncle Buck. My second favorite though is Only the Lonely. John Candy was great in that. As was Maureen O'Hara.
I know "Sixteen Candles" was a chick flick. But "they are so PERKY.!"
I agree with you comments though I did the opposite. I was going to pick Vacation but changed my mind and picked Ferris. If the choice was for all the Vacation movies I would have picked it, FBDO is a classic and I saw it when I was in high school so I think it stayed with me.
Yep!
My eye completely skipped Ferris and I voted for Mr. Mom. Breakfast club was another winner. Lets face it~ they were all worthy . You could throw a dart and defend your choice!
None of the Above. John Hughes is massively overrated.
FBDO sucks. I have never understood the fascination with that movie.
I went with Christmas Vacation.
When Cousin Eddie is emptying out his camper into the sewer… "Sh!tter's Full!!" I still crack up over that….
I absolutely LOVED Mr. Mom, but Ferris Bueller is truly a classic
I went with PTaA. Timeless buddy movie.
"Those aren't pillows!"
Tough choice between PTA and Ferris Bueller. I went with PTA in the end, but I think I may have been influenced by the clip of the classic Steve Martin rant in the other thread.
1.Trains Planes and Automobiles
2.Ferris B
3.Uncle Buck
The absence of "Better Off Dead" makes this list null and void.
Cousin Eddie ROCKS! My favorite recurring character out of that whole series.
three words…
Long Duck Dong
*gong*
That was Savage Steve Holland.. and, unfortunately, he only made two movies: Better Off Dead (the ultimate) and One Crazy Summer.
And both of those are on my favorites list….
And both of those are on my favorites list….
"I want my two dollars!!!!!"
Ok, you owe me a keyboard for that….
Tell me about it, Randy Quaid stole every scene he was in…
Indeed.. I'm racking up quite the bill.
You know, it's a dam shame when people throw away a perfectly good white boy like that.
How sweet was that Camaro??
He's talented that way.
indeed, that was one cherry ride, and this is comming for a confirmed Trans Am enthusiast (I blame that on Smokey and the Bandit), and yes, I had an 83 TA and drove that piece of muscle for 12 years before the engine finally blew up on me.
Dude I was in love with that Black TA. A friend of mine had one with the 455 in it. I preferred the Camaro, had a 69 with a 302 DZ engine in it. Sold it to a dumbass kid who proceeded to wrap it around a telephone pole 2 weeks later…
One of these days I'll find another….
would love to get another TA one day as well, but this time around I'm going Harley
Everyone has their favorite…and for different reasons…for me it came down to the two Vacations, Weird Science and 16 Candles. P,T& A was (I felt) a little overrated…not that it didn't have it's moments…it certainly did. I finally settled on Vacation as it was the "original". But maybe I was just compromising…all four score a 100 out of 100 on the "rewatchability" scale. But for the life of me…what is the deal with Ferris Bueller? What is it that makes people like it so much? Can someone bullet point it for me? Ben Stein, okay…his cameo is okay. So is Charlie Sheens…but the rest of the movie? Not so much. Somebody sell me on this movie. There is nothing can touch the Blues Club scene with a "drunk" Anthony Michael Hall from Weird Science (or Chet for that matter).
This was hard. As a child of the 80s, I grew up watching John Hughes films. Several from this list rank on my own personal list of my all-time favorite movies. It ultimately came down to Breakfast Club or Ferris Bueller, though even narrowing it down that far was difficult. Eventually, though, I went with FBDO. I was happy to see Some Kind of Wonderful as one of the choices, though! That movie is so underrated.
I never realized Mr. Mom was a Hughes film. CLASSIC!
Daaaad your doing it wrong!
And the next thing you know your strung out on bed spreads…….and that's serious.
Are your going to make it all 220?….. 220, 221 whatever it takes
This was the hardest poll I've ever taken. I finally went with The Great Outdoors because that was my first quintessential summer movie. But it was tough – the Vacation films, Planes Trains and Automobiles (my Thanksgiving season movie), Uncle Buck, Mr Mom, Bueller, they're all classics. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to start watching them.
