With all of the artistic freedom and technology available today, why can't they make movies like this any more. Could it be that it takes great writers and actors?

Yes, NeoCon, it does take great writers and actors and that just doesn't exist in Hollywood anymore. I am convinced more and more that the industry is run by eight-year-old boys.

There are great writers and great actors out there, as a matter of fact across the country. The people who green light projects only do so when there are certain "proven" stars on board, and unfortunately they are all agenda driven. Too bad it's such a negative anti-american, agenda.

i've said it before, if an anti-american movie with an agenda driven cast were to open and nobody, and I mean nobody were to go see the movie, the message would be sent…we must avoid movies and tv shows that oppose your values. Sponsors will not waste their advertising dollars. these numbnuts only have there jobs because we like sheep, buy their garbage. For one year lets avoid the crap and pay to see the good stuff…

What also bothers me is that the White House now is asking for informants. They are to report any and all conversations they overhear about HealthCare. I wonder if the average citizen actually understands what the White House is asking?

No one in the Obama crew seems to have considered the unintended consequences of the 'cash for clunkers, to wit:

reduced gasoline consumption which results in reduced federal and state highway taxes–government being government–the solution is to raise highway taxes. Costing everyone more for gas.

Reduced gasoline consumption leads to refineries reducing their output–reduced output results in reduced supply results in increased cost per gallon.

The lunacy of destroying serviceable vehicles is nearly mind-boggling, but given the stream of asinine ideas coming from Obama and the dems, sadly we are becoming inured to such lunacy.

Simple solution to our dependence on foreign oil is to simply utilize our own oil deposits that the dem's adamantly oppose.
Increase refinery capacity by foregoing at least some of the asinine EPA and environmental regs such as the umpty-ump different 'blends' required for different parts of the country, and fast-track our ability to refine larger quantities.

Wonder why these actions aren't considered by Obama? Because to Obama, more government is the only answer to any problem.

If the definition of "left" is the supremacy of the state over the individual, then the definition of the right is supremacy of the individual over the state. And I'm not talking about no government here, not an anarchy, but rather an extremely limited government. The kind designed by radical thinkers like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

Hitler was originally a darling of the left. It was said FDR privately was thrilled with the way Hitler marshaled government authority to turn around the German economy. Joseph Kennedy Sr., ambassador to Great Britain, tried to convince England to side with Hitler against the USSR.

When it became apparent just exactly how he turned the economy around, by creating an army capable of destroying the continent., the left backed away from Hitler. Over time they simply decided to call Nazi's right wing, and after insisting on it long enough, it just became conventional wisdom.

Communism and national socialism are just different flavors of statism.

Just saw Afriucan Queen last week. I think Katharine Hepburn redid that role with John Wayne in True Grit. I forgot what a good movie that was and my main question throughout that movie was why the Germans took war so seriously in that desolate area of the world?

You mean "Rooster Cogburn." Hepburn wasn't in "True Grit." Amazing this was the only film they ever did together; too bad it's not very good. But I recall seeing somewhere that Wayne was mightily impressed with Hepburn.

And remember all that "spheres of influence" stuff from high school. The European powers controlled huge chunks of territory for resources, etc. & jealously guarded them against each other. You had to protect _all_ your territory or the enemy might take it and the gold mines, rubber farms, etc. sitting on it.
