August 10th-30th: Support the Troops With DVD Purchases
by Big HollywoodPurchase two used DVDs and three go to the troops:
Between August 10 and August 30, Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video customers can purchase two used DVDs for $14.99 each from a selection of hundreds of popular titles, like the action-packed Casino Royale and Bourne Ultimatum; belly-busters such as Knocked Up and Superbad; and real-life satires including Little Miss Sunshine and Juno. Each DVD comes with a lifetime guarantee from the store. For every qualifying purchase, Movie Gallery, Inc. will send three used DVDs to Operation Homefront, which will distribute them to deployed service members around the world and to wounded warriors and military families living in the United States.
“Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video operate hundreds of stores across the country that are near military bases and we take pride in being an entertainment resource for our military communities,” said Cliff Torng, chief marketing officer, Movie Gallery, Inc. “Entertainment plays a powerful role in improving people’s spirits. This program makes it easy for people to show their support and appreciation for our troops; we’re hopeful that donating DVDs to the troops will help them escape for a couple of hours and put a smile on their faces.”

wonder if this includes Blu- Ray…
Sounds like a winner to us- we will pick out several dozen and make gifts of them. You all should consider doing the same!
Guess I'm going to be doing some DVD shopping.
Maybe some company can donate a larger tv too! I will be happy to buy a new TV if some company will donate one to our troops.
Some of the Hollywood Video stores in our area have closed down. I'll do some looking once I get paid.
If someone wanted to send some movies and a decent tv to a group of troops – is there any way to do that?
It has been my experience from when I was in the Military and from talking to recent deployees, that almost all of the things sent "to the troops" like phone cards, goodies, care packages etc. Never make it too far past Headquarters Command ie: Office Pukes and Officers, mostly Officers.
I have sent stuff directly to individuals and, as far as I know, they have always gotten to their destination.
AbuBakerSmith:
Obviously you weren't in the Marines, my friend…at least not recently. And if you were, then you weren't in the infantry! After doing 2 combat tours as a platoon commander – Iraq '03 & Afghanistan '04 (yes, I was an awful officer, leading 43 and 39 Marines respectively) – I can tell you firsthand that what you described was certainly not what I experienced. In fact, the officers I served with usually opened their packages in front of their Marines…distributing all (but a little) to their Marines that didn't receive anything. I know because that's exactly what I did – and was encouraged to do – by my superior officers.
Thus, by your account, it simply sounds like we need these movies to go to the Marines in Afghanistan! Thanks for the great head's-up BH…as usual, you're on top of it!

Just as an aside, I am a former Infantryman from the 24th ID MOS 11M20. Do we know if our people are getting recent movies or older "B" type movies? Sorry to sound doubtful, but if these companies are sending over poor movies in order to reduce their dead weight and get a credit (ie: Tax breaks) for "donating" movies that no one wants, where is the benefit? [Shields Up]
It is better to always find an inividual.
Excellent Post. From what I've seen this does happen and things get Picked through at the HQ.
NYCfakeMarine, Obviously you never graduated Boot Camp, or even went.
I could care less about your personal packages and if you have a brain cell still functioning you know full well I was not referring to packages sent directly to individuals. Weasly Pukes always trying to twist and spin any and everything to your favor are so disgusting, HEY maybe you can get a Medal for your tireless seflessness for opening the package your mommy sent you in front of the enlisted swine.. OHHH, yessa massa, weze ism sho thanksful to you massa, you be so good to us.
I'm NOT your friend so drop the condescending attitude. and, you weren't in the Marines. You may have been assigned to or attached to the Marines, you may have gotten to dress up in your Jim Crow officers suit and wear Marine Clothes but you have to graduate from Boot Camp to be a Marine hence the saying Officers and Marines.
Tell your propaganda about how benevolent you were to your buddies in your Elite Jim Crow Officers Corps. Your Buddies at the O Club will slurp that stuff up and hey maybe you can get a Silver Star for your LEADERSHIP….
Regardless of how much things may get picked through in HQ, this is a great idea by a private company and deserves to be supported, and can be done in conjunction with the care packages you may already be sending to individual soldiers.
1.) My comment was not intended to sound like I'm some sort of "massa", but was meant to show you that not all officers are greedy "pukes". Funny how you immediately turn it into a race-baiting event. I love my Marines. Period. That's why we as infantry officers eat last, leave work last, and sleep last…because our Marines come first, and there is no greater honor than leading men into combat. I sense that is something you never experienced. Whatever bad run-ins you may have had in the past doesn't mean you can throw the preverbial blanket over all others. And as far as your tired "Jim Crowe" comments go, I'm more than happy to put you in touch with the Marines I served with – hispanic, black, white, asian…take your pick. They'll laugh directly in your face.

2.) You have an awfully large chip on your shoulder and should probably seek some help for that. If you'd like to come to NYC, I'd be more than happy to help you with it. Perhaps I can then prove to you, once and for all, that I was in fact in the Marines. What's a little more blood on my hands…
3.) My first unit (RCT-5) was the first Marine unit into Baghdad in '03, and my second unit (22d MEU (SOC)) captured 131 Taliban & Al Qaeda – and killed twice that many – during 3 straight months of sustained combat ops in Afghanistan in '04. Like I said above, I was in fact in the Marines…
4.) You're d@mn right you're not my friend, nor will you ever be (but at least I tried). My friends are rational thinking, America-loving, democratic folks. Not a bunch of race-baiting, apathetic, "entitled" cowards such as yourself.
5.) The Marine Corps doesn't hand out awards like candy…unlike some other branches of service.
6.) It is quite obvious you aren't a Marine…nor could you ever be.
YOUR comment was to brag about yourself and it also completelt missed the point. Everythin is NOT about YOU.
"my Marines""my Marines" "our Marines" Very sad indeed that your mindset has you thinking that you own anyone.
Secon, YOU mentioned race, not me. If you are too stupid to understand the point you are farther gone than I imagined. I won't laugh in your face but in reading your response I feel a sense of pity towards you.
I will however explain it a little for you but you will still miss the point. Go onto CLNC CPNC or any Marine Corps base, you will see how the facilities are segregated, occifers have their little Jim Crow Apartheid Sections set up to keep them separated from the enlisted swine, . (you know you learned the term ENLISTED SWINE at the Basic School IF you ever went.(which is nothing like boot camp).
Nice try loser. I can name you several occifers who were handed medals like candy, in fact most of them who received them got them for something someone else did. I have a file with articles from the Globe and the Windsuck for Occifers getting Silver Stars for scheduling Ops or for "leadership" (I'm laughing at how pathetic these fools are that would even be low enough to accept them, gotta get medals on those occifers to BOOST the MORALE of the Troops. How about a formation to award all the occifers Bronze and Silver Stars at CLNC. Can you name the General who stated "Medals are for Officers" ) I suspect the truth of that hit a little too close for comfort and is what has enraged you and pushed you to post your pitiful little immature whiney threats. One thing you can be assured or, when an Actual Marine sees a Medal on an Officers Uniform, he knows that most likely that medal was not for some action that person id or was for less than they did on a daily basis. (Marines engage in 3 day firefight, colonel comes out in with bodyguards, has wounded enemy holed up in closet, Marines can be engaged 2 blocks over, Col lights a Cigar has film crew turn on cameras, goes in with body guards set up around perim, off's wounded enemy fighter.. Col is a HERO… GETS BIG WRITE UP,, BUG MEDAL FOR VALOR TROOP MORALE SURGES TO NEW HEIGHTS.. puts cigar up, buckles chin strap, jumps in protected convoy runs back to HQ. Lt gets bronze star for assistance and doing write up.
And your death threat is just a little lame. When you ever graduate from boot camp let me know, until then you have zero credibility.
No threat of death here, Apu…simply offering to show you my training firsthand, since I'm supposedly not a real Marine. Also, I make reference to "my" Marines solely in the sense that I had direct responsibility for them…not because I "own them" as you've incorrectly (once again) asserted. Personally, I have 2 NAMs with combat V…no bronze or silver stars – because I don't rate them. Period. However, I did write up one of "my" Marines for a bronze star, another for a NavyCom, and several others for NAMs – which they were rightly awarded. Because they rate them…period. So much for your uninformed and misguided theories. In fact, you're so clueless that you don't even know that officers and enlisted are segregated solely for fraternization purposes. If you were half the supposed expert you claim to be, you would have made mention of that fact already…and (likely) made up some BS excuse for it as well.
Lastly, I've never once heard a Marine officer make reference to the "enlisted swine" as you have declared. If I had, I would've corrected them right on the spot. Guess that's why I attend an annual July 4th BBQ that one of my squad leaders throws in Kentucky every year…I must really hate the "enlisted swine" so much that I spend my time with them every year – even though we're no longer active duty. I don't spend the holiday with my actual blood relatives…but my extended Marine family. But you're right – it's all for show and out of charity – not because I respect, value or cherish them. One question for you: what boot camp did you attend? Pilates doesn't count…
Did you get to Boot Camp yet? Nope, didn't think so. You wouldn't make it past the yellow footprints anyway.
Since you asked, and not that I respect you enough to answer but there may be others reading your childish rants that may be interested. I spent 4 years at Parris Island as a Drill Instructor, you know the place, oh wait no you don't because you never went to Boot Camp which unfortunately for you is a requirement to be a Marine.
Do you even realize all your braggadocios bravado and threats make you look like an idiot? Probably not.
So you want to show me "firsthand", wait is that a come on, are you a 1900.9 perchance? (of course you have no idea what that means)
Of course you can't fraternize with the underclass riff raff, you're better than them. Remember "familiarity breeds contempt".
Oh, I know, you could make another post and brag on yourself some more, that will be fun.
I know you'll be impressed. In fact I bet you can't make a post without bragging on yourself.
Any admin clerk who makes good coffee for the Colonel can get a N_A_M_ WITH A COMBAT V if he brings his coffee to him in a canteen cup in country, it means nothing other that you're probably a suck up. Here's a bit of unfriendly advice, stop thinking about YOU and posting about YOU and stop threatening. Oh, as you know the term "Enlisted Swine" is used frequently, as is "Enlisted Men are Stupid however they are sly and cunning and bear watching", maybe you didn't pay attention to that class when you went to summer camp at quantico unless of course you didn't go to qtown summer camp either.
Also, I am so glad to hear how enlightened to hear you associate yourself with an enlisted person. I can see you're so very enlightened (minus the pathetic death threats, you need to work on that) Do you have a black friend as well?
